My review of the 'LEGO 60216 City Downtown Fire Brigade Building Set':This is a large set with lots of different parts.to it. It's contains 943 pieces and you get seven minifigs (legomen). This is an 'action' playset meaning it has built-in functions to help make a story; in this case, to put out the fires. It is based around a fire on a building site, and the various vehicles have 'water' (clear blue plastic) they use to knock the fires down (literally). The fire 'starts' by a lighting tower falling over onto an electrical (possibly air conditioning) unit, which lifts up the central fires, which are on an axle. The main vehicle is the fire engine. This has a turntable ladder which rotates and raises up and down.It has a pneumatic action which you use to 'spray' fake water out of the hose and knock down the water in the middle two floors. This works okay except you need to get quite close for it to work and it doesn't go right back into the hose if you are shooting downwards. I quite like this idea, so hopefully they will improve it in the next set.The engine has storage space for several bits of equipment on board including a fireaxe, radio, airbottles etc. It also has the small 'blues and twos' unit with lights and siren. It's not very bright or loud, but as a parent I think that's a good thing. The second firefighting unit is actually stored inside the body of the engine. It's a six-wheeled robot/drone with gripping arms. It has a water-shooter which fires small discs of 'water' that can knock down the smaller fires on the ground floor. It fires three at once but if you're careful you can do them one at a time. It's worth mastering the technique as they are annoying to have to keep filling. The third vehicle is the helicopter. This is a standard Lego chopper design, with the addition of the same water-cannon as on the robot. It's job is to take out the fires on the roof..There is also a bike which looks like something from Moto GP. It doesn't have a shooter, just some safety cones/lights (I think that's what they are). The construction site contains the main building, a large rotating crane and the small lighting tower Next to the tower is a quite detailed portaloo! There is a clockface which you can pick up with the crane and smash into the tower to start the fire (I'm assuming you are supposed to do this, based on the front cover art). You can also use the portaloo to do this, which is shown on the rear artwork. The seven minifigs are all quite different, basically you get one for each vehicle and some 'construction workers'. They have good detail and accessories, and a couple have extra faces, including the 'OH NO!' worried expression.Building time depends on your level of experience, my young nephews put this together over the course of a day, on and off. If you were in a rush you might be able to get it done in a couple of hours, but where's the fun in that?I think that's about it, now on to the summary:Like:1. Good selection of vehicles2. Innovative 'water' concept for firefighting3. Interesting scenario with a story/action, not just a group of vehicles to build4. Good variety in the minifigsDislike:1. Needs more (or bigger) water-shooters on each vehicle, reloading is annoying2. More flashing lights needed, for the helicopter at leastOverall, this is a fine addition to the Lego City range offering some actual 'play' to go along with the building and creating. It will fit in well with the other City Fire / Police sets and of course lots of the parts will fit perfectly into those sets. My young test subjects enjoyed both building and playing with it, which always seemed to end in things randomly crashing into each other like a disaster movie. The price is about what you'd expect for a set this size. Personally it's too much considering what you get, but it is a brand new set and will come down in price over the year. If you don't care about the cost, then give it FIVE stars.

I got this set off the back of getting the Lego city fire station set (Lego set number 60215) to compliment what was included in that set, and I have been very, very impressed with it. The set contains a burning building, a crane, 7 figures, and a huge water truck that lights up, makes noise and fires a water hose, a helicopter, and support vehicles. The set on its own is impressive enough, but when used with the other set, it really does give you the full "fire fighter" experience. After a good few hours of following the instructions (which were very very clear and easy to follow) we were left with a fire tuck that sounded superb as the batteries for this set were included too! (again, bravo Lego!).As with the fire station, construction of the set will require some adult supervision as some parts of the build are tricky and there are also some small parts / bricks that are used in the construction process. As such I would recommend adult supervision for any child under 7 years old, possibly 8 if they are unfamiliar with Lego sets. The bricks themselves come in different bags, and as mentioned the instructions were very easy to follow. The quality of the figures were superb, as was the quality of the plastic of the bricks. The water canon feature on the fire truck is also very impressive, and we had lots of fun aiming at the flames on the building and trying to "knock them over" (or put them out as the case may be). As well as the truck, the helicopter and crane were fun to build and have provided hours of fun. Both myself and my nephew have enjoyed building this set, and my nephew is very happy playing with the set. Combined with the other set he is now living the life of a fire fighter in the Lego universe for hours on end. As a result, I am very pleased.Overall, this set offers a good challenge for Lego builders and looks and sounds great when built. It offers great value for money and I would highly recommend it.

As an extension to your city fire department this is an awesome set featuring 7 minifigures to integrate into your force. It also comes with a bike, a chopper and a long fire truck. There is a construction crane and the burning facade of a building too, but these are best left unconstructed, especially the facade as there is no baseplate (a common trend among sets now) and no reason to have a perpetually flaming structure in your city world. It feels like an incomplete set, more so when purchasing it for children as they will hardly make an effort to keep the facade intact. It's really a better idea to just empty the packets containing the facade pieces into your big tub and construct something of your own with it.The crane is quite cool though, and can be placed anywhere at all in your city world. At 943 pieces (plus a handful of spares, as usual) this took me about 4 hours to build (minus the facade). Usually this would take me about 2 hours but I have a crippled left hand now which makes Lego building less fun than it used to be. I imagine it would probably take children about 4 hours, minus any adult help. There are several thick building manuals that might be a little daunting for them, so grown-up assistance will like be appreciated.

The Lego fire station is a long established set, but this is a bit of a departure - a set built around fire fighters on the scene of a fire rather than at the station. Specifically, a construction site where some hapless construction workers are renovating an American East Coast / New York City style terrace but a fire has broken out. The fires can be knocked out by the air-actuated 'water' lego blasting down the first floor fire ala a shooting gallery and the higher floors / roof can be tackled by the water lego shooting helicopter. As with many of the City Sets, there's a lot more value here than you'll find with the franchised lego sets (i.e Harry Potter, Marvel, Star Wars etc),with more time and money invested in pure play and interest than in procuring the brand or getting the set to look like something off the TV. This isn't really one toy at all, but a set of toys that can be played with separately or together - my son's favourite element at the moment seems to be the working crane. My fave feature is probably the portable toilet, equipped with lego bog roll - if you use the crane to try to lift it up, it just lifts the upper part - great comedy value :)

Lego is always a toy I turn to for gifts for children, and sometimes even for myself. It ticks lots of boxes - improving manual dexterity; the ability to follow instructions; creativity; logic at the build stage and then the ability to trigger lots of imaginative play and role playing once complete (more for kids than adults, although I guess I have thought about being Han Solo in my Lego Millennium Falcon...)This set is no exception, and it reminded me of the fire station set I had as a child. I'm still sad that my mum broke the fire engine ladder by vacuuming it up - and that's more than forty years ago (yes, I can hold grudges, why do you ask?). I liked the little individual models, which would be great for collaborative building between children in a family, for example. Each was straightforward and not too time consuming to build, and made a great play set once completed.Another winner from Lego.

From my standpoint this is probably one of my favorite Lego City Fire sets to date. We get a massive ladder trunk, a fire ground drone and a helicopter PLUS a construction site containing an entire 3 story building that is one fire. Plus all of the playable items (picking up the port-o-potty with the crane and plenty of flames to be knocked down) that when combined with another set with construction equipment will go quite nicely.Pros: - High Playability, lots of different pieces that move and can be used for other stories- Has a building which Lego city is short on- Light and sound bar for the massive ladder truckCons: - Wish there had been at least one more minifig, another construction worker or some way to make a crane operator- Not the biggest fan of the new stud shooters- wish the building was a little deeper, but good size for the playability factor

If your child (or indeed, you) likes Lego and fire stations, then this is the absolute bee's knees of gifts. It's got pretty much everything you could want in a single box: a fire engine, a crane that swings around, a building complete with its own flames, rapid response vehicles, minifigs galore - there's even a portable loo cabin! There's a few nice touches - the lights flash on the fire engine and there's a long tube so that the fire engine can spray clouds of water at the 'fire'.There's a vast amount in here and it's a lot at once for a child; there are about eight different bags of Lego in the box, and a big book of instructions. Each bag has numbers on it that correspond to the instruction manual,so don't get them confused if you want an easy time building!Lego is relatively pricey, but this is a huge, vast, generous set for anyone. Does what it says on the tin.

I haven't built built a Lego set in over 20 years and this brought back great memories for me. The value for money here is outstanding. 7 instruction booklets covering 9 bags of Lego each able to be built independently was a very welcome surprise. The following is what each manual/pack builds:Bag 1 / Manual 1: Helicopter & motorbike.Bag 2 / Manual 2: Fire Truck Cab.Bag 3 / Manual 3: Fire Truck Trailer Part 1.Bag 4 / Manual 4: Fire Truck Trailer Part 2.Bag 5 / Manual 5: Fire Fighting Robot and Construction site with Port-a-loo.Bags 6,7,8 / Manual 6: Abandoned Building.Bag 9 / Manual 7: Crane. The level of detail from the Robot and Helicopter shooting "water" and the ladder have a fire hose that could also shoot "water" were some very nice touches.Plenty of hours of fun could be had with this build.Highly Recommended

This is an incredible set in my opinion. You have a variety of characters, vehicles and structures; some of which have some nice quirks, such as the fire truck's sirens which flash and has a interactive hose pipe; the helicopter shoots "water" projectiles and the building where you can "put out the fire"; plus other maneuverability you have with certain models. The set took 2-3 hours to build. There are multiple instruction booklets for each part of the set; this not only makes it easier to find what you want to build, but if others want to help building a piece, there is no squabbling for going back and forth from one booklet. Everything is well organised and the instructions are relatively easy to follow.LEGO have certainly done a great job with this set,so would highly recommend.

Fantastic set featuring lots of emergency (and construction) type vehicles and people, which could easily be a great addition or to incorporate with many other Lego sets; you never know when you might need a fire engine! Or a rescue Helicopter for that matter. The portaloo is a nice touch for the construction side of things and the crane is great. It's the fire engine that's the star of the show, though, complete with flashing lights and extendible water canon. I guess on its own this set is a bit limited; it does have a burning building for you to deal with, but the real value is going to be using it with lots of other sets.As usual the vehicles have great detail and everything's well made.Great set.

My 4 year old boy and I have had great fun over the last week building this lego set. It’s taken us ages and kept him busy over Christmas. We now get the best part, which is playing with it. There’s a story and a good sense of child’s humour behind this set....the crane driver lifts the portaloo off the builder while he’s on the toilet and bumps it into the building, setting it on fire. The fire brigade then get called to put the fire out and there’s a game to play. You get a fire engine with a working siren and lights, a crane, a little robot, a motorbike and a helicopter - what could be better!! I’d give this set 11 out of 10 if I could!!!Best money we’ve spent on lego for him...

This set is amazing! As soon as I saw the leaked photos of this set, I knew I had to have it! For $100, you get a crane, porta-toilet, building, fire helicopter, fire motorcycle, fire ladder truck (hook and ladder), a ROS (Robot Operating System?), 7 minifigures, and a new light and sound brick! The crane works well, the flame function on the building is cool, the helicopter, ROS, and motorcycle are great, and the ladder truck is superb (but the rear section is backward compared to real US trucks and has no rear steering cab.) The light and sound brick is great but could get a little annoying if you played for hours. Overall, this is a great set! Good job Lego!

Purchaned for my 6 year old son, fantastic lego set, for the first build myself my wife and my son did it together, it took us most of the day to complete. Quality family time. My son has since build it several times and loves playing with it, he literally get hours of fun from it, it has a couple of features and are a nice touch and bring a bit more realism to the set. The crane can be used to lift and drop and turns 360, the water hose has a small air pump you squeeze and it shoots long clear plastic (it extends out of the pump and retracts back in, very safe) to simulate water and can knock over the fake flames

We are definitely Lego lovers in our house and this was a great item to add to our collection. As with every Lego product, each section is easily labelled and the parts for that section are clearly identifiable in each packet. I.E book 1 relates to the Lego is packaging number 1.Each page are pictures of which piece you should be using at which point and it is easily done.We built this with my 3 year old nephew, who was able to help (with direction).
