These JBL Contriol 1s are fantastic, it is hard to fault them on a domestic or professional level. The only downside is the life cycle of the foam surrounds on the original series. If you have a pair that is approaching 18 years or more they are susceptible to failing due to "foam rot" and this failure can be quite sudden, so using these in a professional setting can be disastrous if they are near the end of their life. If you are buying a used first generation set, make sure they are re-foamed. Otherwise you cant go wrong.Please see attached failure curve overview of my first purchased pair. The period between purchase and functional failure can be shortened by use, humidity and other ambient conditions.

Very Good speakers! More like Awesome speakers!! Lots of bass punch and power! clear vocals and the top end has bags of detail! and the size of the Speakers is great! How do they sound so good and be so small? They are well made too and look great! I have the Silver set that are even better to look at then the black set in my view!Put them on a shelf,table top,stand,wall,They will work great and not look out of place! Well done JBL these Control 1s are Magic!!GOOD...detail,punchy bass,compack size and metal front grills!BAD....Though punchy lacks some bass weight! but thats it!VERDICT..So happy to now have a pair of JBLs Control 1 speakers!No more Big Tangent floorstanders!!

Fantastic little speakers for the money!! I own 3 pairs of these for rear surrounds as part of a 7.1 HT set up. The sound they produce is quite remarkable given their compact size, crisp top end with clear vocals & plenty of bass. I found wall mounting them high up gave the best sonic results though. I have tried many speakers for rear surrounds like Mission 3ds, Kef 55s etc but these really do stand out with their performance for rear effects (Also very good in 2 channel stereo partnered with a sub) Only thing I found to watch out for is, DONT rely on the wire supplied to suspend speaker whilst wall mounting. The ferrel wasn,t crimped enough causing the suspended speaker to fall & break.

JBL Control 1s are my go-to choice for all sound systems, and I've now fitted more than twenty pairs. Sound quality is of course always limited at this end of the budget: You won't ever get audiophile reproduction from £100 speakers. But they are tough, durable, long lasting, powerful and with wall mount brackets as standard they can go anywhere.We fit multiple pairs of these to fill large open spaces with background music and for public address, but Control-1s are equally at home on their own as PC speakers or for small amp setups(I've got a pair in my kitchen connected to a tiny Topping 30 amp) or as front or rear surround speakers as part of a bigger hifi setup.

The most clear studio quality monitors I have heard. On par with Tannoy and Mordaunt Short. Exceptionally powerful on the bass as well as crystal clear quality on the tweeter. I have never experienced such good support for parts for these speakers - the only fault with the pair I bought (as they were second hand) were missing JBL labels which I can order from Harmon Kardon (who either own JBL or are the distributors in the UK).

I decided on these speakers because with my present hearing aids the sound that I generally hear is very high and brassy ,voices are difficult to decipher and in many cases actually hurtWith these speakers voices are clear ,I can control the trebleand bass on voices and again when playing music I can adjust tosuit the sound I hear.These are best value for size and clarity.After many trials these came out the best .

I ordered these speakers as i had 4 large floor standing speakers and i wonted to fit speakers on the wall, i have only ordered 1 pair at this moment, but i am more than happy with these JBL speakers as they handle 200 watts and my Hifi puts out 120 watts so they can take max power if needed. They look and sound good, i would be more than happy to order a 2nd pair.

I know the COntrol 1 speaker since a long time. it still been a great speacker for many porposes. I use them for my home theater, powered by a Yamaha receiver and the sound is very good. Also use them for ambiance music at the pool and the kitchen. When the volume is up, they give the best, but on lower volume levels, are great also.

The sound from these little things is really potent, and belies their size. They definitely benefit from being wall-mounted so that the bass can develop without becoming woolly.The wall -mounting brackets are ok, although care should be taken not to over tighten them and crack the collar as I did.All in all a great purchase.

These are public space industry standard units, easy to mount, power and deploy. Their life cycle defect is limited mostly to main driver foam surround decay but this is easily repaired with kits on the market. They are now over 20 years old in design and can probably do another 20 years after a refurbishment.PMX Music Ltd

Second hand but great condition, I mounted on stands and extremely pleased with sound quality and detailing even at low volume, no distortion when a lot louder,discovering extra instrumental and vocal content from my large and diverse style of music collection

A robust little speaker that performs out of its skin! Top and middle ranges are clean and well defined. The bass, though evident, is somewhat restricted .... as is to be expected from a unit of these dimensions.I wish I had bought them years ago.

An excellent little speaker for the money. I've got them in my motorhome and they sound really good. Smooth sound with good bass for the size, and good treble detail.I think you would need something bigger though for indoor use.

Wanted a compact set of speakers for the rear parcel shelf of my car, and these are absolutely amazing for that purpose. So clear and open in sound, and with an excellent bass reproduction in the car! Just buy them!!!
