Better than it has any right to be.tl;dr: Noisy auxiliary input when charging; very aggressive dynamic range compression. Otherwise, undeniably brilliant for the size and price. Buy it.I originally bought this speaker to throw in my bag on a vacation trip. It played in the background for hours. Who could've guessed that, a couple months later, constrained to unusual living quarters with only this speaker, I would still be using it that much and more every day. Overall, I'm very happy with it. It has a few quirks to compliment its features, as one would expect from this sort of product, but it has positively surprised me, and I would strongly recommend it.It's no high-fi stereo. It's not even stereo. The mono mixdown is pretty lifeless, and it applies very aggressive dynamic range compression to make everything sound “louder”. Because it isn't super loud by itself. What do you expect, after all, from a tiny driver hidden behind waterproofing material? But it is loud _enough_. I can hear it from a room away, and more that it's on than anything else. It's using some combination of multi-band compression and EQ to disproportionately bring forward vocals. This works fine for vocals-forward content: pop music, audio books, and TV all sound particularly clear. But anything which is already fairly compressed, or which does not focus heavily on the human vocal range – instrumental or rock music or video game ambiance, to give two examples – fades into an ill-defined sonic jumble. Then again, its sound is shockingly well-rounded, for such a tiny driver hidden behind waterproofing material. I've heard much worse in the price bracket, and the speaker impressively manages to avoid the thin reediness of any other shower speaker I've listened to. It doesn't put out much bass, but it's there, and it's appreciated.I have used this speaker to take calls, as much by accident as anything else. While I've not heard its mic myself, I've had people tell me I sound a little more muffled than using my phone's mic. But, the mic is there, and it does work. One of the big reasons I chose this unit over others was that it has an auxiliary input jack (3.5mm/⅛") in addition to Bluetooth input. I've extensively used both. The Bluetooth is fine; the latency is negligible from multiple sources I've tried. The unit automatically switches between inputs, falling back to aux input when Bluetooth is disconnected or idle. The compression seems to be more aggressive on the auxiliary input than on Bluetooth input, which is a shame. And the output from the speaker gets noisy when charging (digital switching noise passed along from shoddy USB chargers), but only the aux input – Bluetooth input stays clean. Some analog preamp powered directly from USB without filtering, maybe? Anyway, I've partially resorted to charging the unit off a USB battery to avoid the problem. When I can remember to charge the other battery, that is...Speaking of charging: to be honest, I haven't actually measured playtime, but it's always been plenty. The unit charges in under a couple hours, and I go a few days between charges. My gut feeling would be that I'm getting closer to 12 playback hours rather than the spec'd 10. (Keep in mind that my speaker is still young, and the playback time will decline as the battery ages.) It's good. The LED on the top of the unit warns you when the battery's getting low by unobtrusively flashing red, so it doesn't just die on you.Actually, all of the alerting and signaling from the unit is nicely implemented. It plays a sound effect when powering on, and when connecting to a new source, and when awaiting Bluetooth pairing, and when manually powered down. Changing the volume doesn't trigger any indicator noises, nor does pressing play. Unlike too many other speakers, these sounds are all played at around the same volume level as the regular output, so you don't get a nasty surprise when any of them play. And you wouldn't get a surprise anyway, because they all play only in response to manually-triggered events. That is, they play when you push a button, and not otherwise. Unit is idle for too long and powers itself off? You don't get disturbed. It's a nice touch that shouldn't warrant remarking on, but here we are.I've not really stress-tested its waterproofing, but I do take it into the shower with me regularly, and it's never had a problem. The sound gets a little more dull when the cloth grill gets wet, but most of the water shakes off or out and the rest dries out quickly. I wouldn't be afraid to get it more wet: out of confidence in the unit based on how well it's done everything else, and because even if it did die, it's already given me my money's worth of use after only a couple months! It took me a long time to pick this speaker out from the rest. I evaluated units having inexplicably dropped aux input, or being older models tied to older Bluetooth radios, or having too-short battery life, or being very large. I wasn't tied to a low price-point, and waterproofing was only a nice-to-have over water resistance, but this unit came out on top of those as well as almost all other considerations, and I'm glad it did. Yes, it has a couple issues, but for what it is, it's brilliant. You should get one.

Review of JBL Clip 3 speakerIf there is one word to describe this upgraded micro speaker, it would be brilliant. Brilliant in the sense of being well designed to increase volume, the battery life of the speaker, and brilliant terms of the sound quality. I am a food delivery courier and use this speaker on my bicycle on average six hours per day. It is crucial that speaker that I attach to my backpack can cut through road noise when producing audio directions, music and spoken word. This upgrade succeeds on all fronts. It is noticeably louder than the Clip 2 and, in addition to loudness, there is a brilliance (brightness) level which I can clearly detect depending on the quality of the source material.four instance, I have compared the sound quality, at their best available bit rates, of Amazon Prime Music and Tidal Hifi. The speaker demonstrated the poor quality of the Amazon audio output; it sounds muddy and without any real dynamic range from between or within tracks. On Tidal, the brilliance of voice and bass overtones comes through in a striking way, I would call it really good. For instance, in GQ’s Disco Nights (Rock Freak), the opening base line had a real head-turning pinch as I rode in heavy traffic by London’s Liverpool St. Station. In fact, I would say it sounds better than the UE Boom 2 in both the tightness of the baseline and the brilliance of overturns and treble sounds. I also note that listening to spoken word is much clearer, in noisy traffic. This is an ideal set-up+ for a dedicated Radio 4 listener using iPlayer. The only minor complaint I would have, and it’s not really very major, is that telephone calls are not quite as loud as they seem to be on the Clip 2.Nevertheless the phone over Bluetooth solution seems to cut through traffic noise and I can use it comfortably when speaking with people on fixed lines and also on various mobile and hands-free devices. I never have anyone telling me that they can’t hear or understand what I’m saying, unless there is a poor mobile connection.

My wife bought me a JBL Clip and I am grateful she did. Extremely happy with this sound machine that is small enough to be carried in my hoodie pocket while performing like a large speaker. I play alot of pickleball and players are amazed at the sound quality and how loud the JBL Clip is. For instance, last week I was at the YMCA where the atmosphere is as follows: kids everywhere since they are on winter break, basketball being played on a full court with a lot of yelling going on over there, and we had 2 pickleball courts going with 25 total players. I turned my JBL Clip on and played some up beat music and instantly people were smiling, happy, and moving faster than before.Several told me thank you for having the portable music. Of course I showed them what was putting out all of the sound and they were shocked. Quick notes on the JBL Clip:1. Durability=Excellent. It has a rubberized coating that protects if very well from falls or from continuously being laid down on hard surfaces.2. Connectivity=Excellent. In a matter of seconds my phone recognized the JBL Clip.3. Charging= Excellent. Charges fast and maintains a charge for several days. I usually charge mine on the way to the gym from my car charger. Works nice.4. Sound=Outstanding. You can hear all levels...bass, mid, and highs. Whether you play hip hop, country, alternative, electronica, etc...it is impressive the sound quality this generates.5. Size=Perfect. Small enough to be carried in a pocket, small and light enough to be attached to a backpack, purse, or a belt loop. 6. Price=Excellent for the quality, durability, and sound performance. JBL hit a home run with the JBL Clip...thank you.

I acquired this wireless speaker for my birthday after my Jawbone died. The features regarding this product are spot on. As an avid disc golfer, I wanted a speaker that would be able to handle the elements and still keep playing. So far an energy drink has been spilled on it, the speaker has been hit straight on with a power washer, and has been used in direct contact with water in the shower (all while playing music) and it continues to work flawlessly. The range that the Bluetooth extends to is very impressive. Excellent sound quality for such a little device. I have answered a phone call on it once and the person on the other end had no idea that they were communicating through a speaker.Battery life is excellent and I highly recommend this product. The only time I had a problem with it was when my phone was directly next to it and they had trouble communicating, after moving the phone the trouble resolved itself. That was one time however and the two can be by each other ever since.

This is the only bluetooth speaker I've owned, but it seems to outperform a lot similarly priced speakers. I've had this clipped to my bike for the past 6 months and I personally love it, I'm hoping it lasts awhile because I can't see needing anything better. I've dropped it from hip height a hundred times, it gets pretty banged up but still sounds the same. Very little connectivity issues, but I have a newer iphone so your milage may vary. I haven't needed to test the waterproofing yet, but it does seem well sealed. My only critique is that the clip hinge is starting to loosen. Not enough to matter yet, but I hope it doesn't get notably worse too quickly. One final note that isn't a critique: this isn't omnidirectional like a lot of bluetooth speakers. It very clearly projects out the front and is dampened from behind, which actually works well for biking (I can hear it but not blast people who I pass). Though some may see that as a setback rather than a feature.

I recently bought this to use in a vehicle that has no Bluetooth capabilities, so my intention was to use it for music streaming and map/street-type navigation apps audio. It does the job perfectly for both! I charged it fully out of the box. It took roughly 2.5 hours, and four days later I am still at 70%. (Great battery life and I only had the volume at 50%). Also, I found that my iPhone displays the battery life. I have not fully explored speaker phone function to comment to those needing this, but I do find the sound to be slightly less “perfect” than my music and navigation audio. Overall, I am extremely pleased with my decision to buy the Clip3 versus the other Bluetooth speakers I was looking at,including others made by JBL. It’s small, yet sturdy. It has very full sound even though I had read there are no bass controls. You can stream music indoors, outdoors, and in your vehicle flawlessly. This is a big device at a reasonable price.

The box and unwrapping was very satisfying. It was well packed and and awesome to open. I actually left it on my table wrapped for a while to keep looking at itAs for the unit itself. It's a quality build. It feel very well built and rugged. The first day I used it I had it clipped to my belt while working on a roof The clip on the speaker is very strong and made of metal. I accidentally didn't clip it right onto my belt loop and it fell I to a small puddle on the roof. It's waterproof so I picked it up and just wiped it off and clipped it correctly into my belt and it stayed there for the next 4 hours I worked. It never got in the way.The sound is awesome as I have come to expect from a Jbl speaker. It was loud enough for me to unclip in my work area and keep it at a decent distance as a test and it was loud enough over the equipment I was working.Great unit, awesome rugged quality and clear solid sound

Sometimes my bike rides felt a little quiet and airpods were not always the safest option for the volatile NYC streets. A friend recommended these and wow I'm so glad that I bought it. I was so surprised at how light these speakers are, I can barely tell when I have them clipped to my backpack strap. The sound is really good and high quality, and the volume is impressive; you'd be surprised at how much sound comes from this small device. The battery life is great; I used it for low background music in my bedroom (lofi study music and chill lol) for two days and on the third day it was still alive. I haven't had it run out of battery on me yet and it's been like 2 weeks since I bought it.I went with the white camo and it looks just as good in person as it does online. 10/10 would jam again.

Went on a road trip with my buddy and the car we hired had no functional music system. He had a the Clip 3 in his trunk we immediately got it out and the fun begun. Great sound quality (I'm an audiophile so yeah) perfect portability and the battery is exemplary. We had a 6 hour drive across provinces and it kept us entertained throughout the drive and more hours in. Best genres include EDM and pop. Hip hop also comes of well with deep bases and clear mids. Afro pop and house were expelled very as well. Overall it's ana amazing gadget to have perfect for medium sized rooms/apartments, road trips and even hiking. Definitely a good part of you digital arsenal

Well what can I say? Was absolutely a bit speechless to how great this little speaker sounds and very surprised how great the bass is after testing it out with hip hop and drum and bass genres. But it does sound good with other genres too as I usually listen to other genres of music. I have the previous version speaker of the JBL clip 2 which is still a good speaker. The only difference between the two are the JBL clip 2 has eight hours of play time whereas the JBL clip 3 has ten hours on a full battery charge. Plus it's IPX7 waterproof and perfect to clip on your bag and take out with you on the go. All in all, very happy with this speaker.

I bought this when it first came out and... wow. It's such a good speaker & still super tiny and portable. I've gotten it wet and it still works perfectly. The sound is great and pretty loud. I recommend to get this if you listen to music & walk because you can attach it to pretty much anything with a loop. I took this on a beach and some sand got into the speaker but it easily came out. This speaker is great, and easy to use. I would love to see the next speaker of this line be compatible to link up with multiple speakers to play as once and be louder.

I've had the clip for a while now. I.m not one to write reviews often but for the circumstance I had to. I was at a party with a buddy of mine, he got very angry at someone and in his rage he took my speaker and I am not exaggerating threw it as hard as he could at the cement wall. The speaker broke into a few different pieces. As anything would in that case. I picked up the pieces, fired the mangled thing on and continued to bump tunes for the rest of the night. No rattle. No sound hindrance. I just have to say, what a durable speaker this is.

We already had one of the JBL Charge speakers but were looking for something smaller for our kayaking trips and since we love our larger speaker from JBL this was the first place we turned. We ended up purchasing two JBL Clip 3 speakers (one pink and one yellow) and absolutely love them. They clip to our kayaks so we don’t have to worry about them falling off and the sound quality is amazing, especially for such a small speaker. The clip seems very durable and the speaker itself floats as well. We are very happy with our purchase!
