The JBL Charge 4 is pretty impressive for such a small bluetooth speaker. Amazingly it only uses a single 50mm x 90mm driver that produces 30W of power. The single driver is accompanied by two passive bass radiators that assist to produce bass notes as low as 60hz. At first you may think why would JBL take the approach of using a single driver rather than dual divers? Well I can assure you that the single driver inside the Charge 4 is a high quality driver that produces excellent sound. The whole package just works and sounds great. I compared both the Charge 4 with its predecessor for hours and hours and this is my conclusion. The previous generation is a great sounding speaker however the Charge 4 sounds even better. Now you may think, how can a mono speaker outperform a stereo speaker? It's simple, the drivers in most small bluetooth speakers are so close to each other that is difficult for you to hear the stereo separation to begin with. To really hear stereo separation from a stereo speaker the left and right channels need to be further apart from each other. I found that the best listening position is vertically with the J from the JBL logo towards the bottom. The JBL Charge 4 sound is well balanced with clear vocals, great treble and great bass. The mid-range frequencies are pushed forward and crystal clear. The Charge 4 is powered by a 27Wh battery rated at 7,800mah and is rated at 20 hours play time between charges. The JBL Connect+ allows you to pair additional JBL speakers with the same feature flawlessly. This is a great feature for syncing several speakers throughout a party area. Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity is good with long range and the speaker is IPX7 water proof just in case you need to submerge it in water. The materials and build quality is excellent as usual. The charging port has now been upgraded to USB C and the speaker can charge your phone via a standard USB A connector. All in all the JBL Charge 4 is an excellent all around bluetooth speaker with improved sound quality over its predecessor. Pros:Well balanced sound with clear vocalsNo distortion at maximum volumeBattery lifeIPX7 water proofUSB C charging portCons:No speaker phone [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

When I first read the JBL charge 4 had done away with dual drivers in favor of one proprietary driver. I thought this was crazy (not in a good way) until I listened. I felt testing this new single driver against a charge 3 dual driver would be a fun and fair comparison. Standing in front anywhere from 5-15’ish feet, I could not tell a single driver from a dual driver’d charge 3. If anything, the charge 4 has more to give in ways of overall power, sound stage, tuning and loudness. The differences seem to fluctuate depending on music. For example, Gorillaz and Princess Freesia/Soulpersona (fist bump Oluv) gave the charge 4 the advantage over the charge 3 in overall soundstage and really showed a better tuned speaker. The charge 3 sounded as if there was some type of fabric wrapped around it. Rock like Jane’s Addiction seemed to make the charge 3 & 4 sound more similar than different. Maybe this was a midrange thing? Stevie Wonder and Adele (once again) showed a much better tuned charge 4 vs. the charge 3 with more defined, crisp highs, cleaner but sweet lows and just overall more power and better separation. Lumineers also had more of a cleaner sound while the charge 3 just sounded like there was fabric wrapped around it..kind of a light muffle compared to the charge 4. I can kind of see why people claim the charge 3 and 4 sound similar but I am not one of those people. The charge 3 was a rock-solid speaker for its time but JBL DID evolve it with the charge 4. After comparing the 2 speakers’ side by side in different rooms/distances/genres, I see what JBL did there with the charge 4 and I was pleasantly surprised. My hat is off to them for improving without straying from an already great recipe. Depending on your budget, the charge 3 is solid BUT if you have a little extra to drop in the charge 4 definitely do it! Minor side note, the charge 4 does not include a wall plug but does come with a USB A-USB C cable to charge it but you must provide your own wall/usb charger. The charge 4 uses a USB C cable to charge itself but it does have the USB A output in case you want to charge your phone while on the go. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

When I was much younger (aged 65 now), I worked at a high end audio store and I sold the heck out of JBL Studio monitors. Excellent speakers, efficient power usage, precise, great cabinetry (early 80's). Compared to Dahlquist, Polk, and others, JBL's were the best for all types of music, for music lovers who appreciate precision.15 or so years ago, I purchased JBL Home Studio speakers for surround AV use in my home. Great sound, but poor design of the dumb mylar rimmed drivers failed waay prematurely and I was unable to purchase replacement drivers and ended up with Kef speakers.A year ago, I purchased the JBL Charge 3 and was pleasantly surprised with the sound quality, especially for a bluetooth speaker.I took my Charge 3 everywhere. I am a beekeeper and landscape designer and would take my Charge 3 with me to my apiaries and landscape jobs. Again, one of the drivers failed unexplainedly (grrrr) and I am baffled because I am picky and intolerant of any sign of distortion that might damage my speakers. VERY PICKY. So now, I have purchased a Charge 4 and am again very pleased with the sound. I am a little surprised by the larger size and the resulting better bass response, but I am waiting to see if it, like lots of speakers, diminish the high and midrange frequencies for more bass. I haven't had it long enough to do some critical listening with specific pieces of music yet. I listen to everything, but always ultimately return to jazz. We will see.I never could imagine replacing my amplifiers and multi speaker systems, but these JBL bluetooth speakers have me at least briefly considering the potential as I age and start downsizing and considering changing my old High Fidelity habits for simpler and less things. In part, that will dependupon the reliability and durability of my Charge 4

So I received the JBL Charge 4 earlier today and unboxed it (such nice packaging) and hooked it up to my laptop with the USB charging cable it comes with to charge it up (it has 5 lights on the bottom that lets you know the battery level). I then paired it with my laptop's bluetooth and also with my Samsung Android phone using the JBL connect app and I have to say so far I'm very impressed with this little thing. I've gone through a bunch of different tracks.. rock, pop, great sounding tracks, poor sounding low fi tracks and everything I play through it sounds so full with a nice little punchy bass and great musical stereo effect. It sounds incredible. It is very enjoyable and pleasant to listen to.It sounds like the music is coming from something much bigger than what it is. I don't know how they do that. And the sound seems to actually be improving.. I guess the speakers are starting to break in...it's just getting better and better. To be honest, for me it's all about the sound quality. The other stuff is great... it has a little phone USB port in the back so you can charge your phone and the battery lasts super long.. I still haven't gotten to the end of a charge yet playing with it for a good part of the day.. and it's also basically waterproof for a half hour.. but I'd still rate this 5 stars even if it didn't offer these other features because the sound quality is so great. I really love it and I also really like the size and weight... definitely portable and just a fine looking electronic device.. I will definitely be putting it to good use. Thank you JBL! I'm a big JBL fan, and the Charge 4 didn't fail to live up to expectations. Favorite 5 5 features listed below:1) Sound quality is great. I wasn't thrilled about the single driver (sound only comes out of the front of the speaker and off center), but everything still sounds loud and clear despite it. 2) IPX7 waterproofing makes this speaker great for outdoor fun or singing along to in the shower. 3) The JBL Connect feature is actually pretty cool! I have a JBL Flip 4 (included in pictures for size comparison) so I haven't been able to do stereo mode since you can apparently only do that with 2 of the same model speaker, but even just being able to extend the audio to multiple speakers is fun and great for parties.4) The charging feature is handy. Haven't used it a ton, but it's nice to have as a backup when you don't have any outlets around (battery life overall for the speaker is great so sparing some charge for your phone shouldn't be an issue).5) I love that this speaker uses a USB-C connection to charge, very forward-thinking of JBL, wish more companies were moving to this standard faster.Overall no complaints aside from the single driver thing, and I've found that it's not that big of a deal. I've paid more money for worse speakers in the past. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

The speaker worked well even when immersed in water for no more than 30 minutes, but even though there were some water, the speaker still was functional--making this one weather-resistant and outdoor friendly. The only thing I didn't like about it is the one-transducer handicap, but when I listened to a couple of songs, the product does well even with the one-transducer handicap, reproducing the audio faithfully thanks to advanced JBL technology. Lightweight so you can carry it with you anywhere you want, but the built-in battery charger for your smartphone is a lifesaver. You can hook up 2 "like-minded" Charge 4 devices (with a special method) for a truer soundstage like its siblings before it.As long as you don't over-immerse the Charge 4 in water (remember NO speaker can be waterproof for any more than 1 hour, 30 minutes is the median) and if you are very good in portable speaker positioning, then the advanced JBL technology more than makes up for the one-transducer handicap. If you can afford to do so, then it would be great to buy 2 of these for a truer audiostage. I suggest that you test-hear this product before you buy, even though it's a good speaker in spite of some shortcomings that I didn't like. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

my wife and I loved the charge 3! It wasn't overwhelmingly large and put out some great sound. We listen to everything from music to podcasts, took them on trips and used them as our mini theater system with our laptop! Love them. But after about 3 years of constant and hard abuse they started to give out. We both work in kitchens... our speakers took some hard hours in rough environments. Mine took several dives onto tile from 8 or more feet. Time came to replace and we went straight for the charge 4! The sound great. Not sure I can tell much of a difference without them side by side. The 4 might have a little more bass than the 3, is probably slightly bigger and heavier.I am excited that the 4 has type c! That was huge! I don't have to carry 2 separate cables anymore. My ONLY legitimate complaint... they didn't come with a brick. I recognize that most households probably have a couple spare, but given the price point... i would have rather sacrificed some of the flashy packaging (which just gets discarded anyway) for a brick. The cable could have been longer as well... but 3ft is justifiable. Some of the colors feel a bit muted... but i feel like thats 100% subjective! Overall... great product, great sound, and great durability!

After using this speaker daily for a couple weeks, I can say that I love this thing. The Build Quality is wonderful. The fabric used to cover most of it feels rugged. The rubber that covers the endcaps, as well as the base, seems very durable. The flap covering the charging connector/USB and Aux closes very tightly and makes a good seal. Battery life has been great and seems to be as advertised. The buttons make a satisfying click when pressed. This thing is dead easy to use and connects to my Android phone seamlessly. Also, as the name suggests, It can charge your device as well. The sound it makes is great out of the box. It's balanced and sounds great with a wide variety of music.I find that with an EQ app it gets even better. This little speaker can kick with the help of the passive radiators on either end. It also has the ability to connect to other jbl speakers, but I have not had a chance to try this out. There are lights built into the base that show battery life so you have an idea of where you are at. I take this thing with me whenever I have the chance. Good looks, good sound. JBL has designed a great product here. I highly recommend if you need a great looking speaker that sounds just as good. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

If you already own the jbl charge 3 I wouldn’t say it is worth upgrading because there mainly just small minor tweaks to the charge 4 coming from the charge 3, the charge 4 does have a little bit more clarity as well as a little bit more bass, it’s very similar in volume to the charge 3 but slightly more refined, it now has usb type c charging which is nice future wise because it could support even faster charging, one gripe I have is the flap covering the port is looser than on the charge 3 and there is only one rubber ring that seals it off compared to the charge 3 having 2 of them, so far it hasn’t been a problem though and even if water does get through jbl seals off the other sides of the ports so no damage should occur just don’t try and use the ports if they are wet until they dry,I do absolutely love this speaker and glad I got it, I just wish they would have added a tweeter since it is a mono driver handling everything, if there was a tweeter jbl would have been able to not only make it even louder but allow more excursion without the sound getting fluttery, but I guess they will do that in the charge 5? Thank you jbl for making an amazing product!!! Deffinetly recommend!!!

I was looking around for a little over a month at several reviews of a multitude of speakers. The JBL charge 4 was always ranked pretty highly on pretty much all of the reviews so my decision was final. I've used this thing endlessly for the past few weeks and can't even begin to explain how impressed and satisfied I am. It is just extremely versatile in pretty much every category. It said it lasts up to 20 hours but I've had it last longer. It's super handy for when my phone is running low on a charge. The sound quality is great with awesome bass, nice mids and highs, and nothing ever sounds like it's being flushed out by other noise. It's the perfect balance of quality sound, durability, and functionality. Now I just need to get a man purse... Tactical satchel, (That sounds better), to carry it around. The size would be my only complaint and I honestly don't even mind it that much because I'm usually carrying some kinda bag or back pack that has some extra space. Even then I'm sure I could squeeze it into a pocket if I tried hard enough. Thanks JBL!

My jbl speaker works great and im loving it it does everything it is designed to do and that is to produce high quality clear level bass produced sound im loving loving my charge 4 great battery timing as well last 20 hours its amazing and i noticed that some people on here had some complaints but those guys need to understand that jbl always makes great speakers and that usually the readon why there speaker doesnt work as it should is because of how it gets handled when shipped to stores and houses and when jbl speakers get shipped to stores you never know how the product has been handled till it has been sold so i seriously doubt jbl makes and sells junky speakers jbl always sell greatspeakers i can go on all day about this subject but all im saying is think about all of what could be the reason the speaker is not working before you make a negative remark about the speaker because im pretty sure the JBL speakers dont come from the jbl manufacturer all messed up.

I am very impressed with the new JBL charge 4. The sound is clear and has more boomy base compared to the Charge 3, which I own also. The JBL charge 4 is a definite improvement with the louder base. Other improvements are that It does have a higher capacity battery (7500 mAh) than the charge 3 which is 6000 mAh and a type C charge for it, which to me is better and faster on charging. Also the JBL charge 4 is slightly bigger than the JBL charge 3. The speaker is waterproof (IPX7) and with the higher capacity battery makes an even better powerbank to charge your device while listening to music for a longer time . Just don't forget to download the JBL connect app to connect more than one JBL speaker and to keep up with any firmware updates.I have to honestly say the JBL Charge 4 is an improvement from the charge 3. When comparing the two with features and sound I choose the JBL charge 4. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I loved my little Flip 3, very good quality, to say the least! Then JBL upgraded the quality significantly with Flip 4. I purchased the Charge 4: quality of audio reproduction like no other! The little round JBL speakers still make me laugh! The .5 sec audio delay of the Charge 4 skipping the first +/- .5 sec of the audio selection could be from damage from dropping during shipping and handling/warehousing, if not unauthorized manufacture in another Country, with U.S. Federal online reports of many, many unauthorized manufacturers of many, many of the biggest names in electric/electronic musical instruments, microphones, and many, many other products. DSP, Digital Signal Processing,in JBL models described by customer comments could be a problem, yet defect/damage is probably the problem. No problem! I will do a return/exchange! I LOVE JBL portable audio sound reinforcement/reproduction speakers!

It's loud and bass is great you are definitely getting what you paid for. And that's why I'm giving it 5 stars. Its definitely not a JBL xtreme JBL soundbar or JBL boombox so dont go into this expecting the sound to be like that. However it has wowed me and I do believe I'll be getting a second pair so kudos to you JBL. Drawbacks are and maybe this could be used for when you make JBL charge 5 if that happens. The bass is great my question is will the bass top charge 4 when charge 5 comes out and will JBL charge 5 have 360 sound ,4 speakers two on the front two on the back maybe a bigger bass. However I really do love the charge 4, for one speaker it sure does get loud. Now question two JBL charge 4s can be hooked up and in stereo sound now let's say you hook up like 20 of these things together what will the bass sound like any comparison to the soundbars the. Just curious.

I bought the charge 4 to upgrade from my flip 4. I already enjoy it more than the flip 4. It has the same waterproofing, portablility, and epic sound quality while also adding bigger drivers and a whole heck of a lot more battery life. They aren't kidding when they say 20 hours of battery. I've had it for a week and it's still running on the same 3/5 battery lights as when it was shipped (and trust me when I say I've used it everday since it came. Plus free 2 day shipping, I love JBL and I hope this convinces you to also buy one and see for yourself! (Plus you can always start with the flip 4, it's smaller with a smaller battery but with the sound quality to match, it's perfect for indoors/smaller spaces.)And if you get both they connect together with party connect plus which is flawless and allows 100+ compatable speakers to also connect!
