I previously have had only Bosch trimmers and have been very happy indeed with them so switching to Flymo was a new experience in trimmers for me.First of all, it is a self assembly job. Seems to be the norm these days. I guess they are cutting back on factory assembly workers!! So it comes in a surprisingly small box and that is because it comes in about 8 pieces which have to be assembled into the usable item. So expect to spend the first 10 minutes putting this together before you can use it for the first time. For that reason, I was disappointed. While you might expect to have to put the handle and base together, you should not be expected to build it yourself but there you go.Around about the weight you would expect for a trimmer; too light and it floats all over the place, too heavy and it becomes difficult to use on larger jobs. This one is weighted just about right. For a 500w motor it is surprisingly nippy. Noise levels not too bad, the neighbours won't be too irritated on a Sunday morning. It seems relatively simple to change the cutting cord and very easy to adjust the cutting head angle from top trim to side trim. The 10metre power cord is a good length. My mower also has a 10 meter cord and both almost reach to the edge of my gardens front and back and I would imagine for most average sized gardens this is an adequate length of cord.So for the price I think for what this does is actually quite good. Although plastic it seems quite robust even with regular use you should get years of use out of this, particularly as it has a Husqvarna motor. 50 quid well spent if you need to keep your garden tidy and want something that does the job now and will still do it in a few years time. Flymo are not a brand which will disappear overnight and so getting replacement reels of cord etc is not going to be difficult and with the quality Husqvarna motor, reliability should not be a problem.

this is a really good product ,it arrives in a surprisingly compact box from which the parts are easily put together to make a substantial piece of garden kit which is easy to use and easily clicked into place to alter its use .The trimmer gives a very even cut and misses almost nothing .The edge tool glides along on the rollers to make the edge of the lawn immaculate. It only has one fault to me and that is if you use it for extended periods it can become quite heavy to use if like me you are not used to using one of these and that's the reason for the 4 stars and not 5 but the handle in the front does help you to hold it and move it from side to side .we also found that you had to hold the on switch in quite hard all the time to operate it ,the slightest release of pressure and the unit turns off. for short bursts this is fine but again if using it for a long period this can be quite wearing on the hands

I've been keeping an eye out for a basic strimmer to help with keeping my grass edges short.I noticed this one tilted 90 degrees to have two functions - normal strimmer and edger. The edging function works very well and the spinning wheel helps you walk it along the ground. As a strimmer, it works well. However, biggest issue is that you can't easily feed through new string when it's worn or cut itself off - some of the strimmers I've used you could bang it on the ground and it would feed more out. With this one you have to stop, press a button on the spinner base and pull the cord out, which gets fiddly quite quickly. I would recommend with this tool you use safety glasses as it does flick up lots of debris if you're edging.Other than that, works well enough.

THIS MAINS VERSION IS QUITE HEAVY, COMPARED WITH THE CORDLESS, BUT I HAVE NOT FOUND A BATTERY MODEL GOOD ENOUGH TO DO A LONG TASK. MAINLY CHOSEN BECAUSE OF ITS EDGING FEATURE, WHEEL AND SWIVEL HEAD, WHICH IT DOES WELL ( WITH PRACTISE).YOU DO HAVE TO PART BUILD THIS UPON DELIVERY, THE INSTRUCTIONS ARE REASONABLE CLEAR, BUT THE JOB CAN BE FIDDLY. WITH THE METAL GUIDE NEEDING STRONG FINGERS TO INSTALL, AND THEN I FOUND IT RUBBED ON THE EDGING WHEEL! MAYBE IT WAS NOT POSITIONED CORRECTLY, BECAUSE I REMOVED IT AND THINGS WENT WELL.ANOTHER CONCERN IS THE TRIGGER, WHEN MY MUM TRIED IT, SHE HAD TROUBLE KEEPING IT GOING BECAUSE OF WEAKNESS IN HER FINGERS. I HAD NO PROBLEMS.

Amazing product! Easy to use once built, building it wasn’t hard but instructions weren’t the best.Using the product was great, powerful, cutting through tough grass and weeds. Moving the trimmer onto it’s side application helped trim the edges of my path easily. No need for a edge trimming tool now. This item is amazing! Fully recommend. The only downside if I had to give it one would be the weights, gets your arms pumping after a minute or two. But I’m willing to have a work out when using it. Love it

This does what it says and the auto feed works. It is heavier to carry than I thought and I shall not be using it round the pond or flower borders again because of the amount of grass kicked up. It does what it says and if you follow the warnings and advice issued you will know it can kick out pebbles and bits onto patios or surrounding areas. Needed garden vacuum to hoover up the bits left after doing the lawn. Will use again but avoiding aforementioned areas in the garden.

The grass and weeds hadn't been cut for the best part of a year, so was fairly high and this did a good job. After following the YouTube guide to set this up (more helpful than the paper instructions), it got to work really quickly and effectively. It takes a few seconds to really get going, and a little noisy, but don't be put off by that. It even attacked the weeds trying to push through in between the slabs in the paved circle in the centre of the garden.

Strimmer is heavier than my old one and the switch does need unnecessary pressure to keep the contacts closed. Assembly is difficult.Hint: Peel off the "Mar-guard" protective film from the plastic insert on the Tube AND the pieces of thick Sellotape and glue residue on either end of tube. Then slacken the two philips screws nearest the socket you are trying to fit the tube into 1-2 turns. Push in the tube and then re-tighten the screws!

I've put it together and taken off and replaced all the bits the user is supposed to and it's all very simple. It's powerful and will certainly cut through all grass and most soft stem weeds I imagine. But it is heavy duty and therefore heavy. I'm 6 ft and well built and it is no problem but if you are smaller it might be too much. Really needs a strap. But all round a good buy.

Sturdy strimmer, but goes through the nylon cutting line like nobody's business. The automatic feed seems to activate far too often, and replacement cartridges are very expensive. Powerful motor, though. Made short measure of long grass and weeds. Definitely use the YouTube video to show how to assemble it - quite straightforward if you follow the instruction on that.

The absolutely AWFUL method of causing this strimmer to run is sufficient to put you off buying one. Needing to squeeze the bottom trigger while also holding down the top trigger is a real pain. I thought I might be able to use a tie wrap to hold one trigger in place but the design won't allow it. Using it on anything other than small tasks is most uncomfortable

This was bought to replace an ageing predecessor. The Flymo is lighter and has a more effective way of trimming lawn edges with a rotating head and built in “wheel” that you can use to run along edges giving pretty accurate results. (It’s predecessor had a separate wheel that you had to attach each time - too much fuss.) pleased with it so far.

after an initial problem with the first one i ordered. the replacement arrived. It is perfect and powerful. I have used several different strimmers and this is by far the best I have used. good lenth of cable, lighweight and very easy to use. The switch to keep the power on is a little har to keep on but otherwise I cannot fault this strimmer.

Flynn are, in my opinion, the best product in the strimmer line. I've used them for years and they've never let me down. Easy to construct out of the box and easy to change parts etc. Our gets hammered when using, so when we needed a new one we went for this heavier model. Fantastic. Don't dilly dally over this model. Well worth it.

Fantastic strimmer. Can't understand the negative reviews as I love it. This is my second of this exact model. Had one for years before and gave that to a friend and it is still going strong.Only negative I can find is that the power trigger is quite stiff so if you have trouble gripping or weak hands you may struggle with it.
