Review of a free to test product, received through Amazon Vine (but not the model I was supposed to have been sent, so the Vine badge isn't displaying)This Ryobi One + system grass trimmer wasn’t the one I was expecting to receive when I ordered it as a review item from Amazon Vine. I had accepted the opportunity to review the OLT1825m model but instead received the OLT1832. There are a few notable differences: the blade on this OLT1832 model is adjustable and can be positioned to have a cutting width of either 25 or 30cm (by moving the blade from one screw-affixed preset position to another on the blade guard, this model has a larger front grip handle and it seems to be easier to adjust the telescopic pole length. The trimmer requires a little bit of assembly to install the handle and blade guard. The blade guard was fiddly to affix, requiring a bit of jiggling and quite a lot of pressure on one side to get it to slot into place. Although not much assembly is required, it's a bit tricker than it needs to be as the diagrams in the manual aren’t always particularly clear. This is sold as a bare unit and does not include battery or charger. Ryobi recommend their 2.5ah 18V One+ system battery as the minimum suitable for using the trimmer. I already owned a couple of 5.0ah batteries and fast charger to accompany a couple of One + system sanders I had previously bought and have been using these to run the trimmer. The bare unit is very light indeed. The 5.0ah battery adds around 500g to its overall weight, whilst the 2.5ah version (although when bought this is a bare item, Ryobi supplied reviewers with a 2.5ah battery and standard charger) adds around 350g. Neither is excessively heavy. With the 5.0ah battery installed, this ran for more than an hour before the charge was exhausted. The light weight of the trimmer meant that an hour of cutting grass and weeds didn’t prove too tiring or uncomfortable for me. For a lightweight unit, this is impressively efficient, felling grass easily, and was able to manage even some fairly substantial Cow Parsley plants that had sprung up along the hedge next to a neighbouring field. We have half an acre of garden, and as long as only maintenance trimming is needed this is more than up to the task. The 1.6mm line lasts well, not breaking too easily. The head is auto feed rather than tap and go, and the auto feed doesn’t always work so the unit may need to be opened up and the line rethreaded. This is, inevitably, a bit fiddly. In a couple of hours of grass trimming the line failing to feed has happened to us once.

This strimmer is a great little machine. Excellent for lawn edging or up to walls etc. Don’t expect this to cut nettles or brambles as it’s for light work really. Especially great if you already have other Ryobi 18v tools as the same batteries slot straight in. I gather that Ryobi equipment has always had the same fittings unlike other makes that change every few years. I mowed around 100 metres around the edge of my lawn up to walls and paths using a 4ah battery & the indicator still showed the battery as being full. The auto cord feed seems to work well. A single 1.6mm cord is dispensed as required. Try Ryobi compatible battery & charger! I bough a charger & 4ah battery for less than £40,great value.Would definitely recommend for light work ie grass but get a petrol / blade strimmer if you need to carry out heavier work.

Good product for light grass cutting and smaller weeds. Doesn't have the power/speed for larger weeds but if you're doing work like that then a petrol strimmer will be the best option. Ideal for what it is designed for.Ergonomics seem pretty good. As a taller person, I like the fact that it has an extendable pole. The ability to angle the head in small changes is also useful, not just for doing horizontal/vertical cutting adjustment, but also for finding the perfect angle for your height.I routinely use professional Stihl strimmers which are great but this is purchased as something which is easy to grab just to trim small areas without having to start a petrol strimmer. If you already have Ryobi 18V batteries,it is a no-brainer at the price.

Ignore the 1 star reviews, they are from people who can't read the description that says clearly, many times that this is a bare unit and doesn't include a battery or charger.Onto the strimmer, this is great and has just replaced my noisy petrol one for the garden (but keeping the petrol one for the bramble in the orchard), i already have 3 of the 5ah batteries that I use on my other Ryobi one products.Nice and light, easy to handle, should have brought one ages ago, now I won't smell of 2 stroke exhaust fumes after strimming the edges.Might go for the hedge trimmer next as not much hedge in the new garden and my petrol beast is heavy.

I bought this as my Bosch corded weed eater was just annoying me. Everytime you stopped the head would fall off and whilst that could have been replaced the new one would have gone the same way as well. The new system on this Ryobi one always seems to have the right amount of string and i don't have to smack the head on the ground to achieve this. The mechanism that locks the wire head to the body isn't exposed so i would assume that it won't break as easily as the Bosch one.It wont cope with thick stuff though, well not aggressively but if you are willing to take a bit more time with the big stuff you will be fine for the most part.

I have used Ryobi tools for years with excellent results. Some of my batteries are over ten years old and still going strong. I had my doubts as to whether this would be heavy enough to cope with my allotment paths. As long as you start at the top and work down with the tall grass it copes very well. The auto feed for the cord is working well. So far haven't used a full real, the test will be when I rewind new cord onto the bobbin. I don't expect any trouble as long as it is wound on evenly. I purchased it to replace my petrol brush cutter which was getting a bit heavy to control. This is light enough not to give me any problems.

Finally had time to use this today. Took 4 hours. I have 1 X 4mAh genuine Ryobi one battery and 1 X 5mAh copy battery and only needed to charge them both twice. The strimmer handled the huge Jon with no problems, even went through black berry vines.Much lighter that a petrol powered one not as powerful mind and much more convenient that an electric one.Couldn't imagine having to run an extension cord down the bank. The Ryobi One + system is a good one as I have a leaf blower and an extended hedge trimmer, hoping to add more to the collection in the future.

Really surprised how good this is. Sure, is doesn't have the speed of a petrol strimmer ( single wire on this), but, it works, and works well. What's really surprising bis how long it lasts on a 5ah battery, and how long the plastic line lasts. Just done 25 kind of strimming. Not had to pull and more line out and only half the battery used.My petrol one eats through line, and is a pain to reload when it jams. What this lacks in sheer brute force, it gains in non stop work.So nice not to have to wear ear defenders too.

Good strimmer, does its job without complaining, in fact for me it's much better than the corded one it replaces. Seems to be well made quite chunky, (in a good way), and substantially built. This is my second Ryobi ONE+ tool, I am becoming quite a fan of the Ryobi system.I didn't find the lack of a battery an issue, after all the whole point of the Ryobi ONE+ system is to allow you to buy the tools and batteries separately so as to not make you spend money on a battery and charger every time you buy a tool.

Very useful, if you have Ryobi one+ tools already. The strimmer is lightweight and easy to use. Ideally suited for a smaller garden.Easy to adjust the handle and also the length of the shaft too. The adjustable head also rotates with a simple click button.A great tool for light work.No cables or leads to mess around with, just put the battery in and start strimming. Battery life is good too.Remember it's 18v cordless strimmer not a petrol brush cutter, keep this in mind and you will not be disappointed.

I was looking for a new strimmer for my garden and wanted a cordless one. Having previously bought a Ryobi drill with spare batteries this product really appealed to me. The fact that this comes without a battery was a plus point. When I got this out of the box it was quick and easy to put together and I was using it within a couple of minutes. It is easy to adjust the height and also easy to feed out the nylon which is really good. Works really well and gives a good cut around the edges of my garden.

I had to replace a trimmer that had given good service but became unreliable due to battery/charger problems which could not be solved. Saw this Ryobi bare machine and as I already had suitable batteries I decided to get one. Pleased to say the performance is far better than I expected, it trims grass easily and makes short work of nettles and thistles but is not too keen to attack brambles or ivy!Use it for what its designed to do and you will not be disappointed.Excellent cordless machine.

Bought this on the strength of both good reviews and my previous very positive experience of the Ryobi One Plus tool range,. Easy to assemble with a single feed line. I used a 2.5Ah battery in my tool and after having strimmed all my front garden with it (approx. 15 to 20 mins use) I was astonished to see that the battery life indicator still showed 3 bars!! Only downside for me was the weight. After a few minutes use it did feel a little cumbersome but other than that I am delighted with it.

11.7.2019

I really like the Ryobi 1+ range and this strimmer does not disappoint. I was worried the battery would not last long but it lasts really well. For keeping long grass under control this is ideal as you don't need an extension lead thus it is very versatile. It won't work so well with heavy undergrowth, brambles etc though, a petrol powered brush cutter is the best option for that. The line is stronger than I anticipated and will happily slaughter weeds etc growing up through a patio.

Good product. Replaces an electric version with twin lines. Replacement spools seem very expensive (more so than the twin line spools I currently buy for the electric version) so will only be buying rolls of cutting line in future. Easy to use, very effective and no power cable to set up, avoid and put away; takes a fraction of the time. Line feed works better than the electric version. 2.5ah battery lasts at least 40 minutes OPERATING time I've never had to change a battery.
