this was actually my second pair of these boots.. i am an avid hiker and bought my first pair last year. these boots are super hardcore - the most hardcore boots i have had, and i have a lot of boots, including $$$ NorthFace. I like these more than my NorthFaces. Totally waterproof under normal circumstances - i have literally walked through creeks in them in the Cascades... in my experience - i had to walk through one creek where water was knee deep.. and i fully expected them to be saturated (I had no choice), but i remember being extremely pleased because - they did indeed become saturated, but it took about 10 seconds of walking through the creek for them before i felt the water and i think they only became saturated because it was knee deep,so it got in through the top as well.. i know from experience, other boots would have saturated almost instantly. They are super rugged - and very heavy. if you are looking for an agile/flexible boot, or one you can move very easily in, it's a bit clunky.. but its heavy duty.. i am a female, and i wore them everyday - i would wear them hiking on the weekends in the mountains - and then on the streets or downtown seattle everyday during the week, walking through the city. The boot is BIG.. because its technically made for snow and that type of weather, it's bigger than a standard hiking boot. If you are familiar with snow boots, you will know they are a bit bigger, and these are like that.So I actually wore them year round - and my boots from last year are still in great shape after many adventures and everyday use.. but something about the material holds stains.. so they look like crap after 1 season. i have even washed them a few times. when they are new, they are jet black and pretty sweet looking. If you never took them out into the mountains and you used them for urban use, i imagine they would stay that way - but mine ended up like.. brown practically because once dirt is on them - i think the waterproof material its made of soaks in stains somehow.. but i liked them SO MUCH.. that i purchased another pair for this season just because i wanted some that looked good again... and now i am just using the other boots for dog parking.. and anything super dirty. And honestly - I'll buy another pair next year if i had too, because they are great boots.Sizing wise, i never had an issue with going normal size unlike other reviewers.. I wear a 9.5 in mens in all shoes, and these fit as expected.

I got these yesterday and I love them. I am a postal carrier so I am getting ready for the winter time. When I put these shoes on I immediately get the impression that it's not only durable but its light for this kind of shoe. Even though they run a little large it's ok because I was wearing ankle socks and not the normal wool socks I would wear during winter time. In winter time, I need to keep my feet warm because my route is all walking and the longest one in my station. I couldn't imagine walking with just my NF Fastpack 2 Gortex Hiking shoes. These shoes come up past your shin and the bottom part is covered in rubber so I know it will be durable. It is also waterproof and I tested it by dunking it in my sink for about 30 mins and it did not get soaked. It felt normal as if nothing happened. I am very glad I purchased these shoes and I can't wait til I have to wear them because I know they will perform 100% perfectly but I will update my rating as I go. If you're looking for snow boots and you do a lot of walking you have found the right shoe. I even bought a pair of Columbia waterproof snow pants that has belt loops to match with the boots. Bring it on WINTER!As I mentioned it before, they run larger than your normal shoe size. I wear a 9.5 in men's NF shoes but there is more room in these shoes than the NF shoes. I wouldn't trade these shoes for any other shoe because of the built and durability.

I just received this pair of shoes today and wore them for a couple of hours. They are all I expected them to be - warm, solid, and not too heavy. Haven't tested them in water yet, so I hope they won't leak as advertised. However, choosing the size for this pair of shoes was a head scratching experience. And that was because the size chart on Amazon.de does not match the label on the shoes themselves.I always look at the US, UK and EU sizes, as well as the length in centimeters, to be able to establish which size will fit me. All my shoes are US 10 which is mostly UK 9 which could be either EU 44 or EU 43, and this mostly matches 28 centimeters. For the Columbia Bugaboot boots, the size chart on Amazon.de states that EU 44 is about 28 cm in length and matches US 11 and UK 10. I cross checked with the size chart on [...] which also read that EU 44 is 28 cm but it corresponds to US 10 and UK 9.5. So I decided to get EU 44 . Today when I received the boots it turned out that EU 44 is 29 centimeters and US 11 / UK 10 - so they are a bit bigger than what I need. Also, this boot looks large because of its design, so the bigger size makes them look even larger....It's hard to tell if I would be ok with the smaller size since I cannot try it, but I wish the size chart at Amazon was correct.

OK. I have always bought boots like Timberlands, I am from NYC and a pair of Tim's (as they are called) is a fashion statement. I had an old beat up pair of tim's that I didn't want to wear so I tried on a pair of Columbia's at a store that sells army/navy gear. I LOVE THESE BOOTS. Let me explain. Timberlands are heavy and clunky, it feels like you are wearing two bricks on the bottoms of your feet. Like...you know how gangstas tie cement blocks to someone and then throws them in the river? they could do that by putting a pair of tim's on their feet lol! These boots are super light, I felt like I was wearing a pair of sneakers! Lightweight, waterproof, and WARM.I had confidence stepping in the deepest puddle and I even helped a couple of people in the snow during last weeks snowstorm, confident that my boots were up to the task. This may be the only boot I buy for a while. They look good too, they look good and they get the job done. I would recommend you try them on before you buy them but once you do you will not be disappointed.

Bought these boots to replace my Bugaboot snow boots. I am constantly outside for my job delivering packages to homes. My area covers a lot of rural areas, hence a lot more snow piles and snow in general. The first day I wore them my feet were super warm. Very comfortable. The second day we had a few inches of snow fall the night before. After walking through the snow for 3 hours my toes began to get cold and numb up. Both days I wore regular crew socks. Both days my feet stayed dry. These are excellent boots for cold weather but I'm going to have to say not for constant snow walking. Traction is excellent. It's my fault for not ordering the snow boot. I was thinking try something different.Lesson learned. I will be ordering the Bugaboot Snow boots shortly. My old pair are 4 years old and keep my feet toasty warm. Only reason I needed new boots was the sole was starting to pull away from the bottom of the boot. Overall, great boot for cold days. Not for constant snow walking.

While I wouldn't want to hike for miles in these, they are decent enough for 1-2 miles. Well that depends! I'd rather have these than frost bitten feet! More miles and I'd want a hiker with gators. However for what these are, they are awesome and very warm!I found the fit to be generous, With Omni-heat I'd prefer to wear Smartwool Light socks. This works, however a bit more lose than I like for serious walking. For driveway cleaning, chores etc.... they are fine with a thin sock. Longer walks out in the cold I wear a thicker wool sock.I feel for boot companies trying to hit fit for both socks. This boot comes close.I actually bought it for those sub 10F. bicycle rides. It is a light boot that works well with a bicycle pedal. spacious with a thinner sock, and snuggly warm with a thick sock.

Having read what people had said about these coming up a little small, I ordered a UK 10.5 instead of my usual 10. Even with boot socks they were just a little on the large side so if ordering again I'd go for my usual size. Given how well-made these are, I don't think I'll need to order another pair for a long time though. These are really warn - wore them on Svalbard in the Arctic Circle where it was -7C and my feet were toasty warm and dry.I'd had some Columbia boots 10+ years ago which I found uncomfortable, rubbing the back of my leg as I walked, but depsite these being quick tall, they don't rub in that way.Really sturdy and well-constructed. They're quick to put on,lace up easily and the laces don't work loose, unlike a lot of other boots I've had.

Keeps feet toasty and warm. I wanted a year-round all-purpose boot but too toasty to use during non-winter seasons in Cali. I bought these cos I'm moving to a colder climate. A little too high in my opinion - snug and kinda chokes against my lower leg and is a bit uncomfortable while walking. Maybe it'll get more comfortable as I break them in. Still haven't tried them in snow or rain.Sizing: I wear 8 shoes and bought these in 8.5 to compensate for heavy socks. When I'm wearing normal socks, it's slightly too big but when I wear heavy wool socks, it's a perfect fit. If you don't plan to wear any heavy socks then I would just get your regular shoe size. The width is slightly narrower then would like.

I read all the reviews, especially the negative ones, and took a chance on buying these boots; I was suitably rewarded. They are without a doubt the lightest, warmest, most comfortable boots I have ever worn. They took three days to settle in, and I now wear them five days a week in rural Ireland while working on my cottage. When you read the negative views from the 'princesses', you will hear about them hurting their delicate little feet, ignore these lightweights as that passes in the first three days. The boots are only waterproof up to where the laces start, but that isn't a problem for me. If I want to stand in deep water, I will wear wellies.

Great boot. Thick soles. Sturdy construction. There is no bend in this boot. It is exactly what I wanted for ice/snow. As other reviewers have noted, however, the special material lining the boot pulls out my leg hair -- yes, even through the socks! This isn't a problem for most women, but men beware. No pain, no gain, right? Well, I plan to grin and bear it.... The lining keeps my feet toasty. Don't plan on wearing these long indoors. They are definitely made for cold weather.

the boots fit comfortably - I wear a size 12 and they fit nicely with room for a thick pair of socks. First test - wearing them for tailgating and a football game (about 12 hours) in 12 degree weather. Feet stayed warm without a problem. Wore them 2 weeks later in minus 6 degree weather for 4 hours. Again, no problem with a pair of thick wool socks. I like them. Easy on and off with the top two quick lacing hooks. So far, a very good purchase.

Comfortable, relatively waterproof and warm boot for walking longer distances (winter hiking). This is my second pair. The first pair is still in great shape but I love the boot so much I wanted to buy a reserve pair before the boot is no longer available as I find it difficult to find a good pair of winter hiking boots (either too heavy, not waterproof enough, not warm enough, too stiff - not good for walking long distances and so on).

Have kept me warm and dry all winter in northern michigan. Even snowmobiling for 8 hours at 5 degrees. Used with just a single pair of people socks...I recommend those as well. Never noticed any water inside. They are pretty comfortable and light for.....a heavy boot. When I first started wearing them they did feel a little clunky and stiff but they loseen up....and most times I don't realize they are heavy boots.

I have a 13 year old who has a very wide & large size 15 foot and to find a shoe/boot that fits comfy is sometimes a challenge. He tried these on and said "WOW Mom, these are great" Whew, mission accomplished, they are warm, comfy and fit well. The only minor down side is the neck of the book rubs a little on the legs so be sure to wear thicker over the calf socks. He said they feel much better when doing that.
