***update second winter***Well it is early, but the ice is everywhere and these boots are out again. I was happy to put them on this season. They give me a nice boost of confidence inspiring grip especially on the stuff that is on the ground now... Basically just thin snow that freezes into crust and sheets of ice.I added s few pics of the sole and inside to indicate the condition over basically last seasons use. Which really, I just used them for walking in crummy conditions, snow blowing, and idling around on cold surfaces.I'm confident these will last several years for me.***Original review***These boots are great so far. They are warm, basically too warm for indoors, and nicely warm in slushy snow as well as down to the teens F°. Didn't go any colder here so maybe next year... I just wanted something to keep my feet from going numb while standing in my unheated shop, or blowing snow. They did the trick. They are pretty well padded, have a decent give in the sole so they aren't like walking with planks strapped to your feet. I think they run a bit narrow in the toe box. It's odd, basically anything forward of the arch they feel tight. While the heel on a larger size would be sloppy. Sloppy heels make for blisters, so I had a hard time sizing these. I wound up going up a size to a 13 when I usually wear a 12, and putting an insole in that had a heel cup and otherwise was very thin.Works with thick wool and thinner acrylic socks no problem. The soles grip better than any hunting or snow boots I've worn. I don't imagine them lasting too long as they are really gummy. But boy it's nice not sliding around so much. They lace up nice, and stay tight. Not sure why so many people complain about the lacing. It's not like you have to unlace the boot to get your foot in or anything...I'd buy these again no problem, especially now that I know how they fit.

TL;DR - great boots, warm without being too hot, kept all the snow out, can't speak for traction (was wearing Yaktrax), fit as expected (size 10)I'm going to preface this with: my boyfriend and I are from central Arizona, we've never lived through a real winter before, and I've never owned snow boots. These arrived sooner than expected! I noticed them sitting on my front porch, went to try them on for size, and then immediately got a call from my boyfriend that he was stuck in the snow. I'm a size 10 in mens and I ordered a size 10; they fit a little snuggly, but I was also wearing thermal socks at the time and didn't loosen the laces much, it wasn't uncomfortable. I'm not used to wearing boots,so it was a little awkward putting them on since the sides are very rigid, but once I got my feet in they definitely weren't uncomfortable. I put them on, put a brand new pair of Yaktrax on them, jacketed up, and went to go assist my boyfriend.By the time I got home again I had trekked for 45 minutes through a solid foot of loose snow (powder?); the snow literally came up above the sides of the boots it was so deep. They. Were. Perfect. No snow got through, even from the top. Snow had literally packed up between the top of the tongue and my leg, but it didn't creep down into the boots at all. Not only that, my feet were a comfortable temperature the entire time! I've had boots before that made my feet gross and sweaty and too hot, but these boots didn't do that; somehow they kept my feet comfortably warm without overheating!I've only worn them once, but based on that experience alone (and them arriving multiple days early) I would definitely buy these again! :D

I did buy these boots when they were discounted. I don't know if I would have paid full price. I was looking for a new pair of winter boots with specific features. They needed to be taller, to prevent snow from getting inside the boot. They needed to have a tread (outsole?) that was designed for ice and snow. Obviously, they needed to be warm. And, they needed to be obscure. Meaning, I could wear them to work without attracting attention to them.I ordered them in my normal size. When I first put them on, I thought they were going to be too small. I wore them around the house for an evening, and they do require some "breaking in". Another reviewer mentioned that they rubbed or squeezed their toes.I felt the same sensation initially, but the front of the boot became more flexible. I wore them to work with a heavier pair of socks. Again, I thought the boots were too small. Throughout the course of the day, I found that they began to relax, and felt more comfortable. Then, I noticed how the Michelin-made tread had a spring or bounce to them, which I really enjoyed. The tread did well in the ice and snow. When I took them off, I could tell that my feet had been sweating. They are that warm. Overall, buy them in your regular size, and don't worry about wearing heavy socks. You won't need them. Expect to have a break-in period, as the inner liner starts to conform to your feet. In the end, these boots are exactly what I was looking for.

I used this boots in my crazy expedition in Siberia ,one week ago.I use it everyday with one pair of warm socks .I was very afraid before, because i get a bad experience in Reykjavik ( -3°C) without proper socks. staying in one place for more than 30 minutes; With the right socks in Siberia, i never had any problem in temperature -10 -20 °C . And the best thing...i was able to run on ice,i played football and i was the fastest in the ice;and do u know why because of the Michelin WINTER COMPOUND anti-slip rubber.Everybody was surprised about that and i show them why! Is crazy but i was the only one, with safest condition walking on Baikal frozen lake,in colder Siberia.I used spike too on boots for ice-snow because if snow filled the Michelin rubber was trouble. Definitely I recommend to everybody and definitely i will order one more in future, if this will get broken.I have to test it in more endurance for long period of time.In Siberia i used on all fields (sand, rock, water, wood) and most of time on ice, crossing frozen Baikal lake.I was lucky and proud because i ordered from amazon (nobody in Europe had that size 41.5) , arrived in 3 days and able to finish my trip to Siberia in excellent condition. Thanks Amazon and thanks Columbia for your good job building this great boots !

After a previous trip to the snow I decided to replace my old all-season leather hiking boots with two pairs, one specialized for colder weather and snow. I took the approach of seeking the best reviewed pair from a reputable brand at a good price and found these boots. This Christmas I took my first trip to the snow since then and the boots performed great. I walked a lot in them with no previous break-in and they were totally comfortable throughout. My feet stayed totally dry. They felt better than my regular shoes. Being from a warm climate I had not really owned winter specific boots before but they were not extremely impenetrable to cold, like I might go with something even warmer if I was going to a glacier or something, but they were fine for 20-40 Degrees F with snow. The only time my feet got a little cold was wearing them for 4 hours on cold concrete at a New England Patriots game in December with snow on the ground. When I got back from vacation into temps in the 50's and 60's I found the boots are also comfortable in that weather, I would recommend them for 20-70F temperatures and perhaps layer thicker socks if its colder.

I hardly ever write reviews, but I spent a ton of time researching what to buy before my trip to Lake Tahoe. I assume anyone looking for good snow boots is doing the same thing as me, reading reviews etc.First of all, I wear a size 11, so I ordered size 11, PERFECT FIT. I ignored all comments on sizing, I suggest always going with your normal size, IMO.These boots kept my feet 100% dry, and I was standing in snow all the way to the top of the boots. These are also the most comfortable snow boots I have ever worn, they fit perfect. They are light weight, and the look great.Personally, I would ignore any negative emails on these boots. I have no idea why anyone would not like these. Some people say they do not like that its loop holes all the way,the prior versions had hooks for the few top laces. I prefer loops all the way to the top, it takes maybe 1 extra second to loosen the laces, and remove the boots, vs the hooks that take .5 seconds. Not sure why people care about 1 second, LOL. Its a more solid lading with loop holes to the top, and that's what you want in a snow boot.5 STARS ALL THE WAY!!!!

I got these boots as a gift. Size 11, which is my normal size. To start, they fit perfect, however I planned on returning them because I already own a really nice pair of Merrell boots (my merrells do have a lower ankle though) . These sat in the box for a few weeks until one day the snow was higher than usual and I figured I would give these a try and just hold them for next year if I didn’t wanna beat them up too much this season. Since putting these boots on my merrells have sat dormant in my house. Half the time I just slide these on loosely laced and go out to do whatever I have to in the snow....shovel, snow blow, etc. These boots are warm, comfortable, and thus far completely waterproof (without any additional spray).I would highly recommend these. Great support and great sole. Overall I’m happy I got these as a gift even if I have another pair of great boots.

Not sure what else I can say. These paired with some wool or wool blend socks and you're good to go. Feet have been warm all winter. Once I got a few walks / hikes in them they just "molded" to my feet and shins. Have gone on a few hikes in them with some hilly terrain and in snow with no problems. Also have been wearing them when clearing snow and even just as an everyday boot when we had snow and ice on the ground. Lightweight, comfortable and does repel water really well for like shallow splash across creeks. I am sure if you submerged the whole thing any length of time water would seep in from the fabric tongue but for a puddle or snow (had a fair amount on the ground in KY this year)they've been great. I dont "brand chase" but will say I think Columbia lived up to the hype with these boots.

Absolutely Love these boots. I had to move because when I was young no one told me 3 important things, Prenup Prenup Prenup. Kids and I in a much smaller house in the country and i wanted to hike with them (we usually go out at night through the snow) and these boots are fantastic. I basically were them all the time now... in the house i just untie them a little and my feet are absolutely comfortable with not feeling hot.out in 10F walking through snow... my feet are not the slightest bit cold.I was trying to make a ice skating rink for the kids and standing in about 1 1/2 of water in 20F temps and my feet were dry and warm.i absolutely love these boots. if you are hiking in cold temps...get them!i am 6'3' 170lbs size 10 and these size 10 fit perfect.

Our son is a police officer and came home the other day after directing traffic during a snow storm with feet freezing cold. He needed new boots so we looked for reasonably priced, insulated boots for him to keep his feet warm during winter weather. He loves these boots, the fit is excellent. They have some kind of foot warming technology so his feet outdoors are never cold and he even has to take them off at home sometimes as his feet get so warm. They are great looking, waterproof and the blue accents on them are really nice. We would highly recommend them and buy them again.

After extensive research I purchased these boots for a snowshoeing trip in Northern Vermont. I normally wear a size 10 but purchased the 10.5 to allow for thermal socks. The 10.5 fit perfectly. Weather ranged from single digits to high 20s with periods of trudging through deep snow for 2-4 hours at a time (with gaiters). The boots were thermally perfect...never too hot and certainly never cold. Physically...again, very comfortable never stressing arches, toes or ankles. They appear to be high quality I expect them to last for many years.

Have worn these for hours and hours at a time during my role in TV and film, through wind, rain, snow and fire these boots have kept my feet warm and supported, never feeling any aches, pinches, hotspots or cold/wet. Amazing boots and worth the price tenfold, I am normally a size 10 but was unsure of sizings so ordered 10 and 101/2, the 10 was perfect for me and had enough room for a pair of wicking thick socks too. True to size and an amazing boot, after 6months still no sign of wear.

Once put into service, I can already exercise an opinion on them. Tallage does not matter if you go a number above, the cane leaves everything well held. The tightness of the sole grip, internal temperature and comfort, have responded perfectly. I have tested them in service in the last floods suffered in Tarragona. Neither the mud nor the water nor the dragging materials have been a hindrance to the protection of the feet. And the best, final and clean hose.

Wear the boots in the Argentine Patagonian mountain range, and they were perfect on terrain covered in snow and ice. The high top is essential so that the pants cover it and snow does not enter the footwear. I also used it in muddy areas and its sole makes it traction without problems. The only detail is that their waterproofness is not breathable, and if they are worn all day long, it is inevitable that they will sweat a bit. The rest, excellent boots.

I do a lot of working outside and on them colder Kansas days I put These bad boys on and my feet stay nice and toasty. I’ve read other reviews about the tongue not being waterproof but I haven’t experienced this. Just keep your pats over the tongue and you shouldn’t have a problem. Bought a different brand last year for twice the amount and they didn’t last two winters. I will definitely buy another one of these pairs when my current ones retire.
