I borrowed one of these from a friend of mine this afternoon and was amazed at the distance I was able to propel the associated ball. I haven't got a dog, so I had to borrow one of those as well. I remembered reading somewhere that the way to attract women is to grab yourself a pooch and head for somewhere they might be, so the four of us set out for the local park.I was confident that this launcher would be a perfect conversation starter, hopefully in tandem with some complimentary remarks about my throwing prowess. I was wearing my best white shirt and my finest pair of white trousers, having also remembered how successful they used to be in attracting the ladies the last time I was actively in the Dating Game.OK, that was in 1986 and fashions have somewhat moved on since then. And far from reminding anyone of Richard Gere, I'm fairly sure I look like an only slightly slimmer doppelganger of Boss Hogg. But nevertheless, that was my game plan. Instead of a Labrador, I would have preferred a dog that made me look cute instead, but there's a distinct lack of Shar-Pei dogs round my way so that was very much that. The four of us headed for a fairly busy part of the park, close to the pond, and close to some extremely beautiful ladies who were enjoying the Bank Holiday sunshine. I like to think I looked rather ethereal actually, with my outfit reflecting the light so dramatically. Everywhere I looked, ladies were reaching desperately for their sunglasses. Sure, I may have left them with retina burn for a day or two, but at least I had their attention. And that was before I moved into the main phase of my showing off, which was to deploy this pocket ball launcher. The version I had was the one in that very butch blue colour. Nonchalantly (and with no rehearsals whatsoever), I raised my fully-loaded weapon to just about head height, paused for dramatic effect, and launched the ball. My word, that thing travelled some distance. It flew right into the middle of a rather heavily wooded area, which is adjacent to the pond. It's a filthy pond as well, really muddy. I know that because, in the excitement of showing off and then flexing my muscles, I quite forgot to take the lead off the Labrador. It's funny how adrenaline affects different people. Obviously, I should have dropped the lead when the dog initially took off. But that idea only occurred to me much later, when I was hauling myself and my singularly filthy white outfit out of that pond, still attached to that Labrador. He saw nothing wrong with his behaviour, which I suppose is fair enough. And he had retrieved the ball, which was really rather impressive. When we emerged he dropped the ball at my feet, eager to repeat the experience. I was more concerned with salvaging my outfit, but all hopes of that disappeared completely when my four-legged 'friend' decided to shake himself dry all over me. My days of dazzling the ladies were over before they had even started and there was nothing for it but to find a different way back to my car. The dog was driven home, looking annoyingly pleased with itself. And I took myself back to my own home, pondering which soap powder would be best at removing silt from trouser pockets. But I didn't give this launcher back, no way. I'm going to work on my original plan. It had everything going for it, that plan. The only flaw in it was the dog. If I eliminate that and just pretend to have one with me, I will be far better placed to show off in front of the ladies with this launcher. I'm still convinced it's a conversation starter... .

Chuckit, what would I do without you. You will probably think this is presumptuous of me (and maybe it is) but I think I was one of the original proponents of these chuckits. People used to stop me all the time to ask about this ball flinging thingy. I discovered it in a an out of the way pet shop eons ago. At that time I think they only had the long chuckits. That feels like a lifetime ago. I got quite proficient at it (there is a learning curve). Eventually the 18 incher came out and that became my go-to chuckit. I have tried the smaller ones (I really should have stock in the company) but didn't like them as much as the 18 inch version. If you're reading this (and why would you....at the time that I'm writing this review there are already over 1500 good reviews of chuckits so I am probably silly for even writing one) it is no doubt because your dog it as ball obsessed as mine is and you are either tired of picking up slobbered and muddy tennis balls or you don't feel that you throw far enough to properly exercise your pup. Take my advice and don't buy the Sport 18M. They say this handle is new and ergonomically improved. It is the least comfortable of all my chuckit handles. Get the pro 18M or the junior 18M. The handles are much more comfortable. This one isn't terrible but to my mind it isn't chuckits best work. I am giving 5 stars because the chuckit reviews all get lumped on the same listing no matter the size and I would give the chuckit concept 10 stars if I could. These things are durable and last. I have had one of mine for at least 5 years. Another one simply got lost which is why I am purchasing a new one. I keep them around the house so we always have one handy for Ms Ball Obsessed wonderdog.CAUTION: If this is your first chuckit be careful when learning to use it.... I've seen them fly all over the place and they could take out windows or smack your dog in the head, etc. Supervise your kids until they get familiar with the motion needed to propel the ball. It just isn't the motion you would expect so it takes practice.BOTTOM LINE: The is a ball obsessed dog's dream come true and that goes for the dog's owners as well. You just can't find a better gadget to exercise your pup.

Chuckit products are awesome for our two dogs. One pup is a high energy Aussie Cattle/McNab mix, he runs on Energizers. The other pup is a playful Shepherd/Lab mix with jaws of determination... a destroyer of all. While not every Chuckit product has survived our pups enthusiasm (the large soccer style ball was cool for a month, but a solid tug of war shredded it in a blink). Most of the Whistle balls and solid rubber based balls have held up completely. I have probably lost more than they have successfully thrashed. So our Energizer will run and fetch for as long as I can keep going. He barely stops for water when he is fetch focused. I purchased this Large Ball (we already have the 2.5" version)full size Chuckit hoping the bigger ball and longer swingarm would serve two goals: 1) Bigger ball=larger for our dog to fit in his mouth, challenge him on mid-air catches and fetching. 2) Longer swingarm chucker gives me better distance=pup runs farther on each toss so I spend less time throwing, more time resting. We still love the Chuckit and the pups do too... but this was mostly a fail for me. The bigger ball is quite a bit heavier and more awkward to throw. It does not go further with the longer swingarm because it is a heavier ball. The pups mouth is clearly bigger than I thought, because his catching and grab are not delayed by the balls size. I simply get tired more quickly now that I have a bigger, heavier ball to throw the same distance as the smaller ball. On a good note, the bigger balls are just as tough as the smaller, and it is entertaining to watch both pups vigorously exercising their jaws trying to crush the big balls in their play. *Note, I don't use the tennis ball the Chuckit thrower comes with, our dogs simply peel the fuzz and eventually tear apart those balls.

My dog Charlie LOVES balls. I bought the standard orange Chuckit and it was his favorite ball. To challenge him, I wanted to see if I could try some different kinds of balls so I ordered these:Chuck it Medium Wheelie Dog BallChuckit! Large Ultra TugChuckit! Medium Evader Dog BallChuckit! Large The Whistler Ball 3-InchChuckit! Medium Rebounce Ball 2.5-Inch, 2-PackChuckit! Erratic Ball, Large, 3-Inch, 1-PackChuckit! Sport 26L Launcher and the Medium LauncherChuckit! Large Max Glow Ball 3-Inch, 1-PackAt it was a big fat THUD. Charlie hated them, I didn't know how to make them work they way they were supposed to work and thought I had wasted my money. But after a week, when I finally started to get the hang of it.The wheelie ball was a hoot. Charlie had never chased anything the like that before and he was totally thrown by it. The erratic ball and the evader started to make sense to him and he started enjoying them as well.I finally got my Launchers and we went to the soccer field to throw the various balls as far as I could throw. Now he loves all of them, but the standard, large Chuckit ball is his favorite. The light blue balls and the whistler is hard for him to see, so we don't throw them very far when we are playing with them.It was interesting to see how he responded to the glow in the dark. Charlie is seven years old and has "EXPECTATIONS" about what a ball is supposed to do. So he was actually shy about playing with it. Sam, our three year old Lab, on the other hand has "NO EXPECTATION" about what a ball is or isn't supposed to do. He loved it! Charlie warmed up to it after he saw Sam playing with it.So all in all, I'd say they were a great addition to our dog toy collection. Can't wait to see what they come up with next.

Now in our 3rd year, my Brittany and I are down to about 40 fetch tosses a day, some 14,600 tosses a year. The Chuck It launcher wears well, so, figure at least 5 years of use, for 73,000 tosses. That makes for a terrific value! There are several key benefits of the Chuck It launchers: One is that you can chuck the ball further than you can throw, which allows you to exercise your dog more easily. The second is that you can pick up and launch the ball without touching it, which means NO slime! And, the Chuck It also gives extra reach when you have to retrieve a ball from sticker brambles. Those are great features for anyone with a fetch dog. If you also happen to have a weak arm or shoulder, the Chuck It launchers provide nice throwing options. I generally throw underhanded. I can't get the full potential range, that way, but, I still get good, long tosses. I curl my second finger above the last bump on the handle, and use a good wrist flick along with arm swing. I've seen others throw side-arm with the Chuck It.I had originally written a second review for the longer 25M Chuck It. Either I, or Amazon messed up, and it looks like I can have only this one review. So, here are my additional thoughts on the 25M: I bought the 25M so that I could throw the ball even further! The good news is, you really can chuck further, with the longer chucker. The bad news is, those longer throws do require more arm and shoulder strength than when using the 18M. This becomes more obvious when you've done 3 or 4 dozen throws. I would recommend the 25M only for those with the youth and/or strength to get the most out of it. Otherwise, I'd say, go with the 18M.

This little thing is by far the best thing i have bought my pooch this year and i have bought him loads of stuff.I have been using this everyday for around 4 months and it is in as new condition even though my boy has had a good chew at it now and then.My reason for buying this was that i wanted a ball launcher that fitted inside my over the shoulder bag i use when walking my dog.I wasn't expecting to much from this little thing but boy was i surprised when after a day of using it i got the hang of it and could launch a ball over half a football pitch. The chuck it itself is made of hard plastic and is really sturdy, it has survived many an attack from a variety of dogs.I have had the bigger versions you get from the £ shop and believe me when i tell you they are a very cheap imitation. I can get a further throw with this with my left arm than i could with the bigger £ shop ones with my right arm (im right handed).I would recommend this to anyone with a dog that is active and loves to chase balls. The only thing i would say is if you suffer from a bad back and are buying one of these launcher to save you from bending then depending on how bad your back is i would maybe say get the bigger one but make sure it is chuckit! and you won't be disappointed.I also recommend pairing this with the chuck it ultra balls check my review on them to. The also get my seal of approval.Giant thumbs up from me well done again chuckit!

I asked questions here and everyone said get one because... and they were right. When I realized I had a dog that loved balls (my very first one) I went looking for a Chukit!. I didn't know anything about them and needed to understand. Once I got the answers I needed, I bought one and it arrived today. Bella went nuts! She grabbed the ball immediately in the house and wouldn't give it back. Eventually she released it and I was able to toss it in the house. She loved that too, but made it clear she wanted outside with it so off we went. She's still delighted, but me not as much. I have chronic pain and this definitely triggers it when grip makes contact with my hand during the throw.Just holding it I am fine, but throwing causes me extreme pain. I'm going to wrap it so that I don't feel the sharp edges in my palm as I throw. They need to only offer padded handles as I've seen the complaint over and over. Thought this one would be better than the others because it appeared slightly more rounded, but it's not. Horribly painful for me to use. Bella, she's thrilled and we had a great time until I wore out and there was too much paid to continue. Tried various positions, but all caused pain. Once I figure out just how I want to wrap it, I'll post pictures and report as to how well it works.Thank you to everyone who responded to my question! One happy little dog over here.

Best thing I ever got for my dog. Before the chuckit I used to wonder why people would buy a specific thing for throwing balls.. are they insane? Just pick it up and throw! Sheesh. Well, listen to this...-You don't have to pick up slobbery balls anymore. It's gross and unhygienic to pick up balls dripping with not only your dog's drool, but also whatever it lands on in the park. It could land on wet grass trodden on a million times by other dogs and shoes. Who knows where they've been. Or on gravel or sand or a wet muddy puddle from yesterday. Or a pile of dog crap. Eff all that, just use the chuckit to scoop it up and keep your own hands clean!-No more bending down to pick up the ball with your hands!Yes, you still gotta bend a little bit (if you buy the short version), but not all the way to the ground anymore. Sounds petty, but if you have bad knees like I do this is a great idea. Plus you'll be more inclined to throw the ball more often whenever Fido brings it back, and faster too!-You can throw waaaay farther with the chuckit. Without it, I throw like a 9 year old girl, and my dog gives me this sad disapproving face. With the chuckit, I am a superhero propelling the ball half a football field away. My dog gets a satisfactory run and I don't get to feel like a terrible thrower. The only con I can think of is it gets other dogs excited at the park too!

My little corgi cross dog had a similar one of these in Australia....just not as good quality as this one and longer. when we moved to Greenville early this year we knew we needed one as she loves to play ball....and I for one can't stand picking up a disgusting wet slobbering ball....so it was a must we get a ball launcher. One of my criteria was longevity....I wanted something that was going to last and this one so far has fit the bill nicely. It is small, compact enough to take on day trips and will fit into a large backpack nicely. It is large enough to pick up the wet balls from the ground without breaking your back. Another feature I was looking for was to be able to use any ball with this launcher....and I am happy to report that you can.My dog doesn't like tennis balls and chews through any light hallow ball. It was important that it fit our solid heavy semi-cricket ball....and it does nicely. This same ball was purchased nearly a year ago...that is how long it has lasted...This launcher is fantastic, very long wearing and solid..both my husband and I rave about it all the time and plan to buy another one before we head back to Australia next year....we are raving fans....can't recommend it enough...just love it...use it at least twice a day.

His favorite toy. My arm saver. Five stars. Our German Shepherd lives for this toy - in combination with his Chuck-It Large Rubber Mega Balls! Without this Chuck-It Launcher I'd have no arm. Or life. A 110# GSD gets whatever he wants till you wear him out - so I need to wear him out (without killing myself) if I ever want to get anything done the rest of the day around the house.I can continuously launch the balls to him mindlessly whilst I sit and read or talk on the phone. I never have to touch the balls (so slobbery &/or muddy -disgusting!), never have to bend over to pick them up (nice long handle), and don't have to exert any energy to throw the ball. And when he finally gets exhausted from retrieving the balls (flyballs are his favorites)- this thrower makes a great Back Scratcher. For him - the dog I mean. I suppose it would work on my husband as well lol... Seriously, my dog likes for me to run the cup of the thrower up and down his spine. Go figure. He's a dog and he's fairly simple to please.I so fear not having this Launcher - that I bought a 2nd as a "back-up". Now what exactly was going to happen to the first one? That's the stuff of my nightmares...If this review helped you, please click YES. Thank you and have a blessed day :)

With a new dog, I was doing the old fashioned "throw the tennis ball" fetch game with him. At age 67, my arm is not as strong or as fast as it used to be. I saw this and decided to give it a try. It does work much better then just throwing a ball with your bare hand. But, it does take some practice to get the arm swing motion down so you can aim it where you want it to go. I have found aiming a bit higher than I would think works best for me. I also found that a normal type tennis ball, with a fuzzy cloth type exterior, does not work nearly as good as a hard rubber ball. This company sells them calling them ultra or mega balls but you have to get the right size for your holder. The hard rubber balls have far less friction in the holder, and so they project out much easier / quicker / farther that a fuzzy or felt covered ball. Also, for the first throw of the day, I always "pre wet" the ball and holder with water. You will find that after a few throws your dogs saliva provides great slippery lubrication enabling the ball to come out better. I have the 26" version for max throwing distance, and this also makes picking the ball up from the ground much easier and I never have to touch the saliva coated ball with my bare hand.

Worth the purchase! My 4 year old toy poodle loves to play fetch. I was a little worried about the length after reading some of the reviews, but it's perfect for use in my backyard. I was able to throw the ball twice as far as normal (my normal, I'm 5'2", lousy at sports). I also did not have to bend nearly as much to get the ball back for the next throw. I usually sit out back when we play fetch, and she likes to drop the ball just out of reach. This was perfect for getting it back without having to get up. Lazy, I know!Length (including the scoop for the ball) is 14 inches. The ball for the 14S is the small size, about a 2 inch diameter. Almost too big for my toy poodle (she's around 6 pounds)- typically we use the mini balls. But she didn't seem to have any problems. Love the bright orange color. So much easier to spot. She can be obsessive about tennis balls, so it's already fraying a bit. I can't let her have them in the house, she pulls the "skin" off.Docked one star for no instructions in or on packaging. Even though handle says to read instructions before using. Would love if the handle was padded.

I watch my neighbor's 6 lb. toy Yorkshire Terrier (Bella) about half of time and she loves to play fetch. The problem is that she is so fast that she can outrun the ball (I admit I don't throw a very mean ball). The Chuckit changed the game for us.Bella is too small to be able to hold a regular sized tennis ball properly in her mouth (she has to pick it up by the "fuzz") but these 2 inch balls are a perfect size for her. When we are outside and she sees me rear back the thrower, BAM, she takes off! I try to aim the ball in front of her and as soon as she sees it land she goes for it.With this launcher I can throw the Ultra ball about 40 yards or so. It comes with a 2" tennis-type ball which doesn't go as far as the Ultra ball.I really enjoyed the Mini Launcher but I wanted to be able to throw the ball even farther so I purchased the older style launcher which has a much longer handle. I use that one all of the time now. Not only can I throw the ball farther and higher, it's also easier to pick up the ball when it is on the ground. Still, if you don't need the extra distance this one work just fine.

While my dog struggles with the concept of returning the ball to me, she absolutely loves this! We visit a huge dog park frequently, and this lets me throw a ball far enough that she really gets to run full throttle! Running is her favorite. Then, she gets to play her second favorite game of "keep away" with the ball. But she will actually let me have the ball back so I can sling it across the park again because she loves running so much. We now spend more time playing fetch than keep away. I could never throw it far enough on my own to keep her interested more than one or two times before getting the launcher. Now, we can spend an hour at the park playing with it. I have one super tired dog when we go home.Tired dog = happy dog = happy dog mom. I also love that I don't have to pick up the slimy ball with my hands anymore, especially after she drops it in a puddle, because the launcher picks it right up. My dog gets so excited when she sees the launcher that she will bounce back and forth in front of me until I throw the ball. I only regret not buying one of these earlier!

This smallest Chuckit is Amazing! It works great for my 4 year old and 18 mo old grandsons. At first we would pull the ball out so it was barely gripped by this 12" Little chuckit. Then as the boys got the hang of it they could loosen the grip on the ball themselves and finally -- all in the same day and same few hours -- they were chucking the balls for my Aussie full speed and laughing and giggling like crazy. The other awesome feature of this tiny but great working mini Chuck-it is that it truly will fit in my purse or backpack so much easier than the medium or long range chuck its I have for home and dog park use. Yippee.Best of all,no grabbing that slobbery ball.Plus my dog has learned that when I tap the chuckit on the ground or floor that means drop it where I tap, which he loves because he knows it means more throws. When we go home I will take both of these with me so my roommate and I can throw at the same time for both our dogs in the house! They love chasing balls and even when the balls start bouncing around like pinballs!
