The KONG looked to be a solid, well made product that could withstand much abuse from my delightful chewy chums. It came with some simple packaging that even the most sophisticated chewy chums could have appreciated, and it arrived safely and was delivered to the paws of the licking panting shedding machines. The waggy tailed chewy chums loved the smell and taste of the stinky rubber. Each to their own. I tried to tell them that if my keyboard smelled like that I definitely wouldn't lick it, but they were not put off by my reservations. The toys sent the pack of wild beasts into a frenzy of bouncing, wagging, panting and general euphoria. The menagerie was sent into a further frenzy when they saw the jar of peanut better being pulled carefully from the cupboard. Me being a mere human slave, I couldn't get anything past them! They were then sent to another level of euphoria, a rubbery peanuty one. As I slathered peanut butter into the holes at the end of the stinky rubber toy they ascended onto another plane of existence, becoming one with the universe and at peace with all the wrongs in the world. They were drooling and watching me with big puppy dog eyes as I slathered very thick and hard to slather peanut butter all over the inside of the stinky rubber toy. When the wild beasts disguised as my pets received the peanut butter filled stinky rubber toys, they each took them to a comfy spot, and proceeded to lick ferociously at the peanut butter, unaware that it was pretty much the same sort of consistency as wallpaper paste, and that it would take hours to get it all off. The hairy ones licked away for hours, unaware of the goings on of the world, too busy to look up from their peanut-gasm.Eventually, the cuddly hairy ones decided to leave the stinky rubber toys and came back to the modern world, and continued to live their lives, with a peanut shaped void clearly visible in their eyes. It saddened me, but I didn't want to face the repercussions of them overeating peanut butter and the river of peanut mud that would follow later on. Upon inspection of the toys by the human slave, she was correct in thinking they had finished. The only remaining peanut butter was far out of reach of the beasts tongues and starting to dry. A quick wash out with some water and they were as clean and stinky as new.The love - peanut relationship went on forever. The lick machines continued to lick peanut butter from the kongs, but they also found a new love for them even when the peanut was gone. They would take the black toys and sit with them, aimlessly chewing them for hours, making a beautiful symphony of squeaking rubber noises. Mozart couldn't compare. Even after several months, and then eventually years, the toys still stood up to the test of large sharp beast teeth and regular abuse. The toys stayed intact with only a peppering of tooth marks all over, like tooth holed freckles. They were firmly in love with these toys, and they lived happily ever after together

A little background is in order: Our two dogs are 18lbs and 50lbs. Both of them are absolute power chewers. They inhale bite size treats without even chewing. Nylabones don't stand a chance. Rawhides are practically swallowed whole. Plush toys are ripped apart before your eyes. One of them actually ate an entire pair of gym shorts. These dogs are chewing machines, what can I say. They do their work so fast that nothing keeps them occupied for more than 3-5 minutes! However, as much as they have decimated any toy we have thrown at them, their Kongs have survived for months without showing a single sign of the abuse they've endured. What's more, not only are these toys super-durable, they are the dogs'favourite toys- hands down! For these bone-shaped Kongs, there is a hole all the way through each end -denoted by the little jagged edges you see in the picture. The hole itself is sort of star-shaped, which is why the side view looks like a serrated, "jagged" edge. The edges are designed to hold a treat inside. Have no fear, though, the edges are tough- the dogs haven't been able to chew them up.We've had the best luck using flat, stick-like rawhides with the Kong. We break them into a bundle of pieces slightly longer than the hole, then stuff them in tightly. Inside the Kong bone, the treats last about 20-30 minutes while by themselves they lasted only seconds. Best of all, after the treats have finally been exhausted, the dogs continue to gnaw on them, as though searching for one more tasty morsel. This keeps them happy for another 10 or 15 minutes.I cannot stress enough how tough these Kongs are. If you don't like the bone shape, try the

My dog, bless him, is a chewer. He's destroyed loads of toys in the past, because he seems to like taking them apart. We were getting quite tired of buying him nice toys and then seeing them in pieces on the rug about ten minutes after giving them to him. And then we found this Kong bone. They're amazing. He's a cross between a Staffie and a Lab, so he's got the strong jaws and the appetite to match his genes! But he took ages - months - to even break one bit off one of these.Interestingly, we've never used them for their intended purpose - to put treats in the ends. He's happy enough lying on the floor squelching the ends together in his mouth (and filling them with slobber and licking it back out again,to ensure we're sufficiently grossed out). It's great to see him perfectly happy, creating little creaking squeaky sounds as he squeezes it together. It seems like it's quite therapeutic to him. I'm not sure if he just doesn't want to break it because he likes the squeezing sensation or if he physically can't break it (which would surprise me given his track record of previous toys, sticks etc), but either way, one of these will last him a good six months, during which he'll lie and chew it for a good few hours a day. When he finally did break an end off from his current one, he was still perfectly happy just to focus on the other end instead. To give a better idea, he was given this just before Christmas and it's still got one squeezy end left!I can't speak for other dogs, perhaps I'm naive to how destructive others can be, but I know what mine is capable of, and taking that into consideration, this product is brilliant!

For Puppies and young dogs who like to chew this is a well made product. Our puppy does use it on her own to play with but we also use it to throw and for her to retrieve and bring back to us in the mornings before she goes for her mini-walk. It is very bouncy and when used on the tiled floor our puppy loves it as it springs back up into the air. She is not a puppy who is left for hours on end and therefore I have surveyed her when she is on her own. This is a good chew but would not keep a growing energetic puppy amused for long if she did not have other chews in her play area (our kitchen). I would not recommend any puppy to be left for long periods of time with just a few Kong products. This should be bought in combination with other 'chews', reconsituted bones and dried pigs ears. A combination of Kong and other products certainly keeps her from eating chair and table legs. I still have not found the 'goodies/treats' made by Kong to put into the ends of the Goodie Bone - please can someone advise me where to buy them? I did buy the can of Kong cream to put into her other Kong Goodie cone shaped toy (bouncy too - which makes it more fun to play with ). Variety in chews is important and Kong products are very well made and will not flake or crumble and get caught in her throat or her tummy - so yes I would advise this as a good product to buy. It would keep her quieter if she had a goodie stuck into the slots either end of the bone. I bought the black medium size and it will last for ages. Thank you Amazon for your quick delivery.

I bought a larger Kong Extreme Goodie Bone than my dog needed because he's a voracious chewer. He's already chewed off the ends of medium Nylabones, cow bones, and antelope antlers, all within an hour. He also apparently likes furniture. He hasn't managed to rip this apart yet, but I imagine that's because it doesn't taste good... only what you stuff it with tastes good. He also hasn't yet chewed through the biggest Nylabone that you can put a long treat in (I think it is supposed to taste like chicken). He has multiple foraging games, toys that are stuffed with treats, over 20 balls, squeaker toys, ropes, etc., and I play with him several hours a day, including trying to wear him out with "fetch" outside.Even with all this, keeping him occupied is a challenge. When dogs have already lost their baby teeth but they still have a high drive to chew, it's very frustrating. Compared to my other dogs I've had over the last 20 years, this one has ADHD... He never even slept the first night home. I feel like a zookeeper trying to keep my charge from destructive acts caused by boredom. In my mind, a video clip keeps playing over and over again of a pacing black bear in it's small zoo habitat . Since he's highly trainable, we're definitely going to start doing agility course training.

My dog is bonkers for this toy, so much so that he took it on his walk today. It seems sturdy and doesn't make any annoying squeaking noises. Also good for playing tug of war. My dog is medium-large and an average-strength chewer (I think), but he's very diligent, and this toy is holding its ground. His other favorite toy is a KONG Classic that must be about 13 years old now. He inherited it from my previous dog and it's still in great shape, so I went for the same brand again. The cut outs at the end that you can wedge biscuits into are a bit of an Achilles' heel for this bone. After about a month of enthusiastic chewing, I noticed a small crack coming out of one.Update: After six months of chewing, this bone remains in one piece and my dog's most prized possession. A few more tiny cracks have appeared around the cut outs where the treats are supposed to go, but they don't seem to have compromised the structural integrity of the toy as a whole. Even if it broke in half tomorrow, I would consider it money well spent.Update: This toy finally gave up the ghost after 8 months. My dog started pulling pieces of rubber off where it cracked around the treat cut-outs on the ends. I promptly ordered another. This toy took quite a beating and my dog is still smitten with it.

LOVE this toy! My lab/pit mix one year old dog is sweet as pie, but boy can that dog CHEW!! No toy lasts more than one chew session - stuffing comes out, rubbery plastic is shredded to bits, rope becomes a pile of string... I purchased this bone about six months ago and there aren't even dents in it. He loves it. Sometimes I smush peanut butter down in the holes on the end and put it in the freezer - it gives him something fun to do when he has to be crated while I run errands, and I don't worry that he's going to break pieces of the kong off and swallow it when I'm not watching him. This is a really really sturdy kong.UPDATE: My dog STILL has this and it's STILL whole! It's been 2 years since I wrote this review,so he's had it for about 2.5 years. The rubber has kind of cracked a bit if you bend it, but he hasn't chewed anything off it. This is the only toy he hasn't been able to destroy. He still, even as an almost 4 year old, loves to rip the stuffing out of stuffed animals (which is why we buy stuffing free!) and loves to tear apart any other chew toy we give him. He loves this stupid bone, he plays tug of war with it and lays down, holds it between his paws and just chews and chews on it. ABSOLUTELY worth the purchase!!

I love this chew bone. I may even love it more than my dog. You can literally fill it with anything you are willing cram into it and then just sit back and watch your pooch get all excited and frustrated as they try to get the goodies out.I have had this since my collie x german shepherd was around 3 months old so over a year now and its in perfect condition.I fill it with lots of different stuff depending on what i have at the time. I've seen me putting peanut butter, Primula cheese, carrots, mashed potato, biscrok biscuits, tuna, you name it its probably been in there. As he has gotten older though i must admit he seems to have it sussed as before he would take maybe 40 minutes to empty itbut now its more like 10.I highly recommend this KONG bone and any other KONG toy for that matter as i have a few of them now and none have fallen apart.I would also recommend the chuckit ultra balls to anyone with a dog with a ball fixation, you can find my review of that on my profile. If you know of any other good dog toys, chews or accessories please let me know in the comments section of this review as i am always on the look out for stuff for my boy.

We ended up buying two of these, one for each English Bull Terrier, we have a male and female of that breed who are both very strong chewers and destructive chewers. Suprisingly enough they have not destroyed these bones. When I felt the flexible bone toy, I thought this toy would be torn up, but I think the fact it is somewhat flexible works to the advantage...the toy is soft enough it will not break their teeth, and the softness keeps the toy from being "broken" by strong chewing..but it is tough enough to withstand the powerful chewing jaw muscles of the bull terrier dogs. They even play tug of war with it without tearing it up.edit: we bought 2 of these and out two large English bull terriers play with them every single day...they play tug of war, keep away, chew on the dog bone, etc etc and these things are still going strong! one has some small cracks in the rubber now, but they have outlasted all other dog toys excepting the extra large black Kong bell shaped toys.I am very happy, as these bones are flexible...we do NOT put treats in the hollow ends but allow the dogs to play with as out of the box.

5/18/17 Update: We still have this toy! Since then, we adopted another Pittie and this toy is still holding up. Love it!12/18/15 I wrapped this toy for my pitbull and put it under the Christmas tree with a bunch of other presents for other loved ones. Somehow, he sniffed this one out and opened it while I was cooking dinner. I wasn't sure if I should be happy that he opened his own gift or mad because there was wrapping paper remnants all over the living room. Either way, we let him keep it! He is a very playful and powerful 1 year old pitbull with an obsession with chewing and tearing. Kong Extreme toys are the ONLY toys that he can't destroy. We have tried numerous other brands and none seem to hold up.Some toys he destroys in a few minutes, others last for a few hours, and very few last more than a couple of days. So far it has been a week since he sneakily opened this gift and he has yet to destroy it or break off any pieces. Our family will never buy anything other than Kong Extreme again. Great product. We would buy again and also recommend to others.

We have a high energy Border Collie, and this toy (along with 2 other Kong toys) got us through the puppy stages. He is a very aggressive chewer, and destroyed every other toy, in addition to chewing through a wire cable covered in plastic that we used to stake him out in the yard if we couldn't take him somewhere with us. He still loves it and still plays with it, mostly tossing it in the air and carrying it around. He will still occasionally chew it very aggressively, and it has lasted. It is his favorite KONG toy (the others are the KONG Extreme toy found here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002DHNZA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (I can't describe the shape!)and the "donut" shaped toy). This bone-shaped toy is by far his favorite. You can put peanut butter etc. in the open end, but we didn't need to do that much, he liked the toy by itself, plus the peanut butter makes a mess unless you have it outside. The KONG toys saved our furniture, shoes, etc. from being chewed. He didn't chew a single item other than these toys! Good boy!

My 9 month old, 65 pound American Staffordshire Terrier adores this toy. The ends of the toy are hollow allowing you to fill it with treats. We put small size dog biscuits in it and we have also lately started filling the ends with wet food and freezing it. This freezing method keeps him entertained for over an hour. Unlike his regular Kong, the treat areas on this bone are too small for him to simply lick out the wet food. Instead he chews on the ends and this knocks bits of it loose and squeezes it out. This nearly doubles the amount of time it takes compared to his standard Kong filled the same way.The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because he really doesn't seem to care about it unless there is a treat or something stuffed into it.I was hoping it would be something he chewed on more without an added enticement. It is extremely durable though. My dog will tear through the majority of toys and this one shows little to no signs of wear even though we have had it for about a month and put a treat in it at least once a day.

Kong. The name of choice for sanity-preserving puppy owners. If you have a dog, and especially a puppy, the mere thought of a Kong product provides instant relief. I’ve got several Kong products and they’ve not let me down yet.The Kong Treat Bone is made of their hardest rubber so has the greatest chance of standing up to the most playful of pup. There is hole through the centre at either end of the bone into which you can stuff a treat or two. As with all Kong treat toys it’s advisable to use some kind of paste or soft food to help wedge the treat into the toy. I recommend soft cheese (cheap supermarket stuff is fine), peanut butter (essential to make sure it doesn’t contain Xylitol as it’s poisonous to dogs….Sun Pat and Skippy don’t use that so should be safe)or Kong’s own spray-on paste.Once you’ve given the dog their bone they’ll spend many enjoyable minutes fishing out their food from inside. The bone doesn’t hold as much food as some of Kong’s other toys, but hey it’s a bone. The pooch will love it!

My mid-size Chihuahua loves the Kong bones and this is a perfect size for him, but he mostly loves them because I put a bit of low-fat peanut butter in each of the holes for a morning treat. Neither he nor my large dog (with a much larger Kong bone) chew on them beyond licking out the PB, but it's a great way to give them this treat and keeps them busy for quite a while. If you should try this, give them the bone outside or on an uncarpeted floor as it can make a bit of a mess. As well, because they lick around the ends every day, the outside covering gradually wears away (takes quite awhile, but it does happen), so when the bone starts to feel sticky, I replace it with a new one. For that reason, when you find them at a good price, it's a good idea to order several at the same time. I also only buy things Made in the USA or Canada for my dogs which these are, but some of the Kong products are made in China, so you have to confirm that on each one, if that's of concern to you.

We walk a friend's ten month old German Shorthaired Pointer and would like to have a break for a coffee or meal after fifty minutes then walk him for another fifty or so - he's off the lead during these walks and is racing to fetch the ball so gets lots of exercise. Unfortunately he hates these brief breaks and will tear up the yard of an outside cafe or tear up boxes of tissues and cushions if he is in the house. I bought him this Kong and we stuffed it with dog treats. He was totally absorbed for fifteen minutes then started going crazy and we found that he'd eaten the treats so we put in another one. (The packet said that a dog his size could have two a day.)I'm going to buy some peanut butter and put it in the Kong and freeze it as apparently this slows down how quickly the animal can extract the food. I bought a stag antler for another dog that we walk but he absolutely hated it so I had some trepidation about the Kong. Fortunately it has been a great success!
