I bought this having previously bought a cheaper dustbuster (£20) which although it picked up the dust and sucked up flies always blew air and at times even dust straight into my face! It also had a tiny awkward bag to collect the dust. I took it back. I researched for beefier models and settled on this B&D one and have never regretted it.It has a good filter system of two parts ... an outer plastic cup which stops flies/bigger bits of debris getting through to the thick corrugated card (?) filter which in turn traps the fine dust. It is straightforward to get to these filters to tap the plastic one to dislodge anything caught, and gently tap the card/cone shaped inner filter ...this is a dusty job and I do it in the garden and tap the filter against something hard. It is astonishing the amount of dust it collects in this inner filter. On the outside of the outer filter are all the bits of twigs, flies etc. Incidentally, if you vacuum up a wasp/fly etc you can go outside and open the springloaded door and the fly flies off, albeit a bit dusty! I never vacuum up moths as I'm sure their big wings would be really damaged. I empty my machine regularly so as not to damage the flies etc. as otherwise they would wizz round with the debris and get hurt. I just don't want them in my house!Yes the machine is noisy but it is fantastic. It is much heavier than the £20 one but I would e expect it to be. It is beautifully balanced and you can adjust the angle of the nozzle very easily so it is comfortable to use as the machine is held at the same comfortable angle, you simply adjust the nozzle. I did my daughter's filthy car interior the other day .. they have a black spaniel and it was wonderful. If you suck up little stones remove them from the chamber so as not to scratch the interior of it as it is useful to be able to see through the plastic and I read elsewhere that you can scratch it and make viewing the contents more difficult. When the spaniel leans against our yellow settee I can just suck off the black hairs with this machine. It sucks my short hairs out from under the keyboard of the computer and whilst you have to be very careful not to dislodge the keys, it does a brilliant job with it as the nozzle has a good shape ... the extending nozzle in particular has a very close fitting/flush end to it.The extending nozzle is excellent for corners as it is very angular and flush fitting, whereas the primary nozzle has slightly rounded ends to make it easier to angle when you are vacuuming a larger area.Extending the nozzle is a slightly tricky business and I need two hands to get it out and push it back in again as it needs a bit of manoeuvring to get it in and out ... obviously some kind of lip holds it in, and keeps it out. Not a problem as it is obviously necessary but you just have to be careful not to nip your fingers. The rechargeable battery gives quite a long use ... I carried on vacuuming the car til it ran out ... it felt like ten minutes or so but I can't be sure.As far as usuing it in the kitchen is concerned, I wouldn't vacuum up anything that would go 'off' or mouldy so resisted the temptation to vacuum up breadcrumbs the other day. Also I didn't vacuum up a load of flour that had made its way on to the kitchen floor the other day. Whilst you can clean the inner filter pretty well by tapping it, dust/debris is still in it afterwards and I decided not to have perishables in it.It lives on its recharging station in the hall. It comes with a brush attachment but for some reason the bristles are only along one edge so it's a bit odd. Don't think I've used it more than once just to experiment. I suppose it would rough up the carpet a bit if dust was very imbedded.Thoroughly recommend it. It is noisy and heavier than cheap ones so bear that in mind. These are both things you can evaluate before you use it, so you can return it unused if you can't cope with either the noise or the weight. Remember you can adjust the nozzle angle to make it easier to hold in a well balanced way. The adjustment knob is on the handle.

I do not normally advocate Black & Decker products as many years ago they proved to be short lasting and less durable/robust than those from Bosche or Makita for example. However, the B&D PV1805CN 18V Dustbuster is fantastic in both power and build quality. I am very pleased that I didn't go for my initial choice of a Dyson handheld as this is far less expensive and for me the most suitable product for small clean up jobs around the home and in the car. It is quite heavy as other reports have indicated but well balance so it doesn't feel too heavy or awkward to use. My wife has a wrist condition that means she can't use heavy appliances too well but has no problem with this B&D dustbuster and tells me that she really likes it and agrees it was a good buy.The charger was easy to fix on the inside cupboard wall and the machine sits neatly on it. I thought the pivot nose would be awkward to use but after initially working it out it became a breeze to use. Emptying it is also very, very easy. Overall it is a superb Black & Decker product that I hope they use as a role model for all the future products they produce.ONE LAST NOTE ABOUT DYSONS (NOT B&D):although Dyson make good products I have found that some of their parts are less robust than others so a DC5 cleaner for example looks very strong but small plastic hose retention bits break off much to the frustration of people who own them such as myself - when I approached them with this inherent fault they just shrugged it off and have as far as I know not done anything about it and this has also put me off buying Dyson's both now in the future.

I have had one of these for about 3 years now. It is definitely the best handheld 'vacuum' that I have ever owned (and that's a few including the so called 'premier manufactured brand'). It is powerful, easy to use and has a good battery life before a recharge is necessary. The filter is easily removed for cleaning and has survived hundreds (I mean that) of washes to remove dust and debris. I use it for the car and for quick use in the house. I use it especially for cleaning around the log burning stove to remove wood chips and ash. Great for dog hairs too!As stated, I have had this for about 3 years, its still as good as new and going strong without any apparent loss of power. If you want a good, robust cleaner of this type I highly recommend this item.

I bought this on the basis of all the positive reviews and I'm not disappointed. It is powerful, light and compact. We use this on our boat and it cleans all the floors and upholstery perfectly, and we like the wall mounting and compact storage. I have given 4 rather than 5 stars on the basis that battery life is not quite as long as I would like but it seems that this is a universal problem for hand held vacuums - technology doesn't seem to have been cracked yet. But, overall, would highly recommend this.

Compact, powerfull and with great suction - this 'Dustbuster' is worth the extra cash. I originally bought it for cleaning the inside of my car, for which it is ideal, but my wife seems to be using it more than me now. The pivot nose seems to be able to get into everywhere and with the small brush that fits on the end, it makes short work of those hard to get places in the car boot etc. Overall, we are very happy with this device.

A powerful, compact to store, easy to use hand vac. Great for day to day use. Did have a slight problem when I broke a jug containing water and I tried to use vac to remove any bits of glass on the carpet, the carpet was still wet and the powerful suction meant water got inside the unit and ended up spraying foam out of the air vent! My own fault - so be warned and stay clear of fluid. Cleaned it up and it is working perfectly.

Since we got it this vacuum has been great for all sorts of tasks from clearing up after our children, cleaning the car etc. It is great for short jobs. The only downside is the noise. It is quite noisy but apart from that it is a very powerful cleaner; far better than any cordless vacuum I have had before. The pivot nose is also excellent for storing it away neatly.

Really pleased with this purchase. Have purchased dustbusters in the past, which have not had great suction, however, this does the job well and the Pivot Nose makes the job more easer with the ability to get into diffcult spaces. Worth the extra money and would fully recommend.

Very speedy delivery. Item works very well. Powerful suction. Vac is always ready for use as it lives on the charging station. I only use it for a short time so battery life is not a problem have not run it out yet.Very satisfied. Weight may be a problem for some.

Very useful for sucking up crumbs and other debris left by the kids! Very powerful and performs the job easily and effectively. The fold out suction nose is innovative and makes for nice tidy storage in the base unit. Excellent product.

Louder than a jumbo jet at take off and only slightly less powerful. The charge doesn't last very long but it's so powerful that it gets the job done very quickly.

Works well, but cleaning the conical paper filter is a inconvenience as I wash it and it takes a while to dry out
