When this machine arrived I was surprised it wasn't bigger. It is the same size as a normal upright top of the range carpet cleaner only you can fold the handle down so its actually easier to store. It also seems a fairly simple mechanism so won't be hard to repair, I liked that.I have used a VAX all terrain carpet cleaner and a Vax platinum power carpet shampooer. Both top of the range, both about £300. The all terrain had very awkward to place water containers, so it would leak until you got them exactly right (and no indicators what 'right' was so I'd waste a lot of time trying to stop the leaks, the carpet brush stopped working after 18 months, replacement didnt' help. Then I bought the Platinum,oh dear. hardly picked up any water at all and not surprisingly didn't seem to pick up much dirt. I'd spend 1/3 of the time cleaning, then 2/3 trying to remove excess water to stop that awful damp smell. After less than a year I gave up and bought this Big Green Deep Cleaning Machine.Used it once. What a difference. Even though I used the platinum a week ago, the water was black (the best I'd get with the platinum was a brown water). It was obviously full of much more dirt. I did pretreat but used a home made concoction of biological washing liquid and vinegar (as I have pets) and left it for 20 mins or so. Then I used the Bissell shampoo supplied with the machine. I used one lot, then started rinsing. There's no real need to keep using the shampoo as you need to rinse the carpet to get all the shampoo out, and the dirt still comes away.I am a bit of a perfectionist. Once I have a shampooer that works, I don't tend to stop until the dirty water is almost clean. Then I know I have got all the dirt from my carpet. However, I've done two or three complete runs with the Deep Green so far and while the water is still dirty, I can see the brown dirt film that was covering my carpets has gone, which is the first time I've seen that for a long time.I also do two or three dry passes over the carpet to remove as much water as possible (remove water, remove further dirt). For the first time in years, the carpet is fairly dry. Will finish drying overnight, it won't take days with all those nasty damp smells that stay with your carpet. It costs more than one standard top of the range carpet cleaner, but think, I have bought two in the last couple of years and still not had a clean carpet til now. I can only say I wish I'd bought it instead. I am very impressed by its ability to pick up dirt and water. Yes I am a bit finicky but if this machine can satisfy me, I would highly recommend it to anyone. I did manage to buy it with a sale discount (for £546 rather than £683) so am really really happy.I have back problems and arthritis but haven't found the machine too heavy or cumbersome to use. The machine is well designed. The water containers sit on the front of the machine so the wheels take the strain of pushing the machine with at least 8 litres of water in it. The positioning of the water tanks means the suction gap is pressed into the carpet when you need it to be, so it gets the maximum amount of water/shampoo/dirt out that any machine can. I think this is why the Platinum didn't extract much water, the tanks with their weight were not over the suction gap.I look forward to using this for many years. Comes highly recommended.

This cleaner is very good and I can recommend it. I think it cleans better than say the Rug Doctor, which I've hired out in the past, because there is a roller to agitate the cleaning liquid before it's sucked up. The suction so far (about five months on) is still good too. So the carpets are fairly dry after a clean (much more so that Bissell's cheaper models; but you'll still have wet socks if you just wore them to walk across the carpet after)! On the downside: First the tool -- it's sprays well and attaches easily -- but it just doesn't have the suction, so I think stains and dirt are left, unable to be removed by the device. Having said that, I don't think the Rug Doctor tools I've used in the past were much better.Second, the manual with the machine is small. It hardly says anything -- I was left wondering: 'What's the difference between this solution and that"?; "Should I buy that accessory they mention?" Among other things... for instance, on my machine there are two digit LED number that counts up during use. I found out from experience that they count one number every 10 minute -- clearly for the commercial user, who wants to know how much the machine is used. But with no mention in the manual you do wonder what else Bissell have failed to mention (and for that matter why is it important to know how long the machine is used -- is there a maintenance schedule for this machine that I've not been told about)?Bissell aren't the most helpful of companies to phone either, on several occasions I got the impression that they were only there to sell more products and solutions. Not to answer any questions. Which, I think it could be reasonable to have after spending a good £500 on a cleaner. However, apart from some minor negative points, I have to say that this machine is really good at cleaning up mess. I particularly liked the supplied 'Advanced' cleaning solution supplied with the machine, but at £20plus per bottle I have tried others cleaning products (Vax, Rug Doctor etc), which work almost as well and are much, much cheaper too! For my four bedroom house this machine is probably overkill since it's not used as much as I think was designed to do. But with babies deciding to mess my carpets up every week it is used quite a bit and I'm very happy with the cleaning results and the (fairly) dry carpets that it provides. So I'm still (five months on) very happy with my decision to purchase.

Besides having a young boy who somehow manages to spill any liquid that he comes in to contact with, i've been doing renovation in my property so my carpets really have been getting a lot of hammer. I wanted to buy a cleaner that would last for a long while as well as one that would be able to deal with the 4 year old spill monster and after quite a bit of umming and arring i decided on the Big Green Cleaning machine. My first impressions were that it was smaller than i expected and is very compact to rivals such as the Rug Doctor due to a handle that folds down over the cleaner. Its of a solid construction and is quite heavy. The hose that comes with it is going to be a nightmare to keep tidy but apart from that,it's a nice and neat appliance. The cleaner is much easier to handle than i expected thanks to the swivelling handle although i noticed that when its turned on, it tends to start moving to one side or the other slightly instead of staying in a straight line which i found to be quite annoying. I'm not sure if it's designed to do this or not though. The performance of the cleaner is exceptional, it cleans very well on it's first pass and leaves the carpet almost dry which i was very surprised by and the cleaning time is cut down due to the cleaner working forwards and backwards. I was expecting a little bit more performance out of the upholstery cleaning attachment but it still does an adequate job, if not a little excitable with the detergent spray though.Cleaning is a breeze and takes a couple of minutes. You simply remove the top tank which contains the dirty water (the bottom contains the clean water and detergent) and empty it out into the sink or drain, give it a quick wash out and then replace it on to the machine. You then just give the rollers underneath a wipe and you're ready for next time. All in all, if you are willing to invest the money and have the room to store it, you are going to get a very good cleaner and i can't recommend it highly enough. Happy cleaning.

So I went on Amazon.com to find 175 5* reviews out of 200 for the Big green Deep Cleaning Machine from Bissell, impressive in itself, but investing over £500 in a carpet cleaner needs a little piece of mind, so I found it there. And being a fan of Bissell over the years I took the plunge and bought one. So far I have not looked back! Easy to carry than my Bissell Aromapro, much better cleaning results than the RD,(Rug Dr), left the carpets drier than the RD, yes more expensive but for £100 over the price of a RD it's a no-brainer.It's so easy to use, really solidly built & even has an electronic counter which tells you how many hours it's been used in it's life time.Negative are: the hand tool is average & not as good as the RD - but it's ok.Also it uses about the same detergent as the RD I think, maybe a bit less but nothing like they claim in the US. It's a bit more expensive and the warranty is only 1 year, I expected 2 years. And it can dribble a little dirty water from the container when you lift it out to drain, so I recommend using a dish cloth or towel when lifting it off, not ideal. But they are all fairly minor against the amazing results you get with this machine, the ease of use and the obvious build quality is apparent as soon as you get your hands on it.I don't know about the long term reliability as yet, but I get the feeling it's built to last as long as you look after it, or for at least as long as the RD anyway.I recommend it no question :)

This was a considered purchase due to the hefty financial outlay but I’m delighted to say that it has earned its money, and some!I owned a small Bissell machine for spot cleaning but it failed miserably because the fluid leaked from the tube. I got my money back and put it towards this machine as it has the hand cleaner attachment encompassed with it. So, not only does it clean my carpets beautifully, but the attachment I can use for cleaning our mattresses, stairs, etc.The dirt this machine drags out of your carpets, etc, is astounding! My front room in particular has a lot of traffic (husband, 2 kids and a dog!) and I have an expensive Chinese rug which was costing £100 a time to clean professionally. This machine achieves exactly the same standard of cleaning (the brushes work backwards as well as forwards) and of course I can do it as often as I like! Also, it sucks up most of the fluid and your carpets are dry in no time. It comes apart easily for cleaning (I flush it through with my garden hose!), and as the handle folds down, it doesn’t require a lot of storage space. It’s quite a beast to move so I wouldn’t advise you to use it if you’re not physically quite strong, and it is fairly loud too!I have absolutely no regrets in buying this and as the saying goes, I wish I’d bought it sooner! I’ve owned and used it for over a year now, with no issues whatsoever.

I had this machine for two months and only used it a couple of times.I have to say it is a fabulous machine for cleaning carpet. I do not think that there is a better one out there. I tried cleaning the hall carpet with another machine a few days later tried it with this and it was amazing what the other machine had left behind. However, when I went to use it after two months I noticed that water was leaking quicker than I could fill it. I bought it on amazon and had it delivered on March 30th, 2016. Initially, I had trouble contacting Amazon on the website. I was told that this was outside the 30 day return period after spending all that money on it.It looked like I would have to chase up the manufacturer myself and arrange an in-warranty repair myself. After some frustration I managed to get a reply from an Amazon Customer Care Rep and I have to say that they were extremely helpful. They agreed to the return of the faulty carpet cleaner and will send me out a replacement one. They emailed me labels which I had to print off and put on the box containing the faulty machine. I had to arrange the shipping of the faulty machine back to amazon for which I was re-imbursed immediately on sending them a copy of the receipt.Well done Amazon and thank you for your excellent customer service.

This is a serious machine! It is brilliant at cleaning dirty carpets. Mine haven't been cleaned for 10 years, and the amount of grit and dirt it picks up is astonishing. I know it's done its job well because the dirty water it sucked up was black with grime! It is very easy to clean, and the three compartments are a neat idea.It is fairly heavy, and a big room would require some elbow grease, but that's not a problem for these results. The bottle of cleaning fluid supplied with the machine doesn't last long, though, and the suggested four rooms use is stretching it - unless they are very small rooms, of course. There is a one drawback, though, and that is the hose extension. There seems to be a tremendous loss of suction through the hose, and I noticed this when I was cleaning the stairs. It took a while to suck all the water back up. It does clean, it just takes a lot longer to get all the water up. Unfortunately, I have to knock off a star for this one thing.Overall, though, I would still highly recommend this machine. I got lucky with the purchase price too, and I picked mine up for £397.00 from Amazon.

I did consider a steam type carpet cleaner but changed my mind when I read the reviews about leaving carpets wet and taking days to dry out, one firm of carpet cleaners employed a batch of fan heaters which adds expence to the clients power bill, thisproved to me that the cheaper models of carpet cleaners were not up to the job,now this machine I have perchased is the most expensive of all models I looked a it is a lot of money but I have not been dissappointed with its performance I cleaned my own carpets which had not been cleaned from five years ago and I could not believe th results watching the machine lift out the hidden dirt in the pile and I could see the filthy water being sucked intothe tank due to the well designed inlet see through plastic cover and touch dry in minutes and even walk on after an hour. I am now going commercial and one of the best placesNO I WILL NOT TELL YOU WHO i CONTACT.

Yes it's expensive. However it really takes an awful lot of dirt (and dog hair) out of your carpets that your vacuum left behind (and I think my vacuum does quite a good job).I would definitely recommend to anyone that has an old dog who has accidents (or a pup). It's as if it hasn't ever happened whereas before I thought the carpet would need replacing. My home now smells lovely which quite frankly I was really struggling to achieve previously. It doesn't leave much damp on your carpets - which quickly dry without being damagedYou don't need to move all your furniture as the tool supplied enables you to clean around it and I've not found suction with it a problem though the carpet is a little wetter when using this (but it still dries quickly). It did manage to get a dog accident removed properly so suction must be good..

This is a very good machine which does what you pay for. It's a robust machine and feels sturdy able (hopefully) to withstand serious use. I'd never have believed how much gunk was in my stairs carpet as its hoovered (Dyson'd actually!) every day as I have a Golden Retriever. However the water was dark brown - uurrgghh! The secret is getting use to how it works - by aggravating a moist carpet using strong brushes then sucking up the residue into a holding tank. Going back and fore over a dirty spot works wonders and my carpet was very clean; fresh; bouncy and barely damp. It takes quite a lot to impress me but in fairness this has done that.I do intend giving it quite a bit of usage over the next few months so I may well be re-writing this review. So far, so good....anyone want their carpets cleaned?? ??

This is a big heavy machine but very easy to use, does not do edge cleaning will have to use hose and and attachment. I have had and used a number of machines over the years from commercial to home units this machine comes out as one of the best ,it is expensive but you get what you pay for, with the unit turned on it is quite easy to push and pull leaving the carpet nearly dry, must use a decent carpet solution not the pound shop crap, even cleaning the machine after use has been well thought out and a doddle to do.

Quite apprehensive about using this but it is a great bit of kit. We have two dogs so the carpet can get grubby quickly but the Bissell lifted stains (even quite old stains) easily and the carpet was left looking like new. The cleaner itself is very sturdy, easy to use and powerful bit it's also quite noises due to its power. The hose attachment is a bit of a let down as it didn't feel like it had the suction but on saying that, the stairs looked great once dry. Overall I would highly recommend this machine.

After reading dozens of reviews I chose this over the Vax model and I was not disappointed. The amount of dirt left in the waste water was truly shocking, since I had this carpet laid barely a year ago. But this is a great testament to it's deep cleaning abilities. The only other thing I would say to somebody considering this model it is quite heavy, so if you're not strong it could be an issue carrying it up or down stairs. But again this is no lightweight when it comes to getting the result you want.

Having used rug doctors for years, we are extremely impressed with the water extraction capabilities of this machine! It leaves the carpets almost touch dry and raises the pile far better than the Rug doctor! Construction appears to be to a very high standard, but only time will tell if it out lives the lifespan of the RD. Initial thoughts are that this is the best machine currently on the market and we are very pleased with our purchase.

13.10.2013

this machine will save about two thirds of the time than a conventional rug doctor. It has been designed for ease of use and is a pleasure to use. As a cleaning contractor every detail matters and the big green machine has been well thought out for repetitive use which saves on laborious refilling and emptying of tanks, this design is so fuss free, no effort is lost on the cleaning of the carpets.
