Decided to go clean-shaven again at the start of COVID-19 lockdown after having a full beard since 1986. Used plastic multi-blades for a couple of months but wasn't happy with the results. They just didn't give me the quality shave I could remember from a safety razor and there were areas that I couldn't shave properly due to the huge head needed for all those multi blades. I used to use a traditional safety razor so decided to go back to one to compare. Read a few reviews for blades and went with the Astra. A touch more expensive than Derby but slightly better reviews and much better value than the other well known commercial brands. Really pleased with the result.A good close shave which has generally taken two passes. I am still re-learning the safety razor technique but in time I feel I will be even happier in going back to double edge razor blades and a safety razor, as opposed to plastic disposables and multi blade rubbish. I have also just bought a 'shavette' type straight razor which I will be using these blades in and it will be interesting to see how they perform in comparison. These blades completely outperform the multi-bladed disposables and are far better value for money in the long term. After such a long time since using a safety razor I was expecting one or two cuts or nicks, however that has not been an issue with these blades and I have not had any. In short, good value, a close shave and quite safe to use (as far as razor blades can be) compared to disposables, provided the correct preparation is made of your skin before you start running a blade over it.

I was lucky, I found Astra when new to D.E. shaving some 5 years ago, they were recommended to me by numerous people as "Astra, green packet, NOT the blue packet" (yes there is a massive difference). This brand & type, made me look again at the other shavers I'd used & dismissed as not good enough, (three in total) having latterly used the green astra in all of the razors I now had far more confidence in my shave, my potential for clean up (cuts & the application of the styptic pencil)...& 3 good razors (one I made my travel razor with a short handle). At time of purchase these worked out at 8 pence per blade (100 bought) this topped me up as I get 4 or 5 shaves per blade, ..you may be different, but please remember there are 4 edges per razor blade insert (labelled so that you can change around when it starts feeling scratchy & less capable). Therefore from an 8p blade (at time of purchase) I get 16 -20 shaves before unwrapping a new blade & recycling the old one.Help your skin by purchasing a good shaving cream (proraso in a tube, ..again offers value for money like these blades) & a cheap shaving brush. My shave time is typically less than 5 minutes, who says these are "faffy & time consuming"!? (2 passes).100 is a lot of blades & a lot of shaves, ..I recommend you buy / beg or borrow one pack first before trying out other brands & sharpness intensities.

I recently made the switch from cartridges to an old fashioned double edge razor.I’ve realised the importance of finding the right blade. I got 10 Astra blades with my razor but found them to be too sharp. After reading a variety of articles, forums and reviews I decided to try derby blades as they were said to be great for beginners of traditional shaving. I was pleased to find derby as a brand were very cheap, so I bought some.As I used the remainder of the Astra blades I became used to them and started to get clean and smooth shaves. Then I started the Derbys and it was back to square one. At first they were a bit harsh and got cuts and rashes.I also noticed slight inconsistencies between each new blade and a couple were starting to rust when I replaced them. I tried altering my technique and shaved more lightly letting the blade do more of the work. This achieved much better results albeit it is not as close as I’d like and I still have to go over certain parts of my face twice. Ignore recommendations based on your level of experience. I think different blades suit different face shapes and thickness of growth.I think I’ll go back to the sharper blades after I finish these and I’ll try a different brand. Maybe one has to find their perfect blade through trial and error!?Read full review...

After reading some reviews where people said they were cut to pieces, I was hesitant to buy these as I have sensitive skin.I’ve recently started using my safety razor again to be more eco friendly and had been using a blade (think sword) but I usually had nicks/cuts afterwards. On opening these Astra blades, I noticed numbers 1,2,3 and 4 at the edge so useful if you want to keep using one edge for a while before changing to the other one (and flipping over if you want to?).I thought it felt a little flimsy but tried it and it gave a good, close shave without cutting me. Result! I’ve used the same blade for 3 weeks (dry it after each shave) and then decided to put a new previous sword blade in today. With the brand new, different (sword) blade, I’ve got two nicks. I’ll have to use the sword blades until they’re gone but they’re £5 for 10, very poor value compared to Astra.I’ll be an Astra user from now on.

A while ago I bought a mixed set of 10 different makes of razorblades, and these appeared to be the best - as far as I could remember over the months. Tho not exactly a rigorous double-blind scientific testing, obviously!Fantastic value anyway! 50 blades for under a fiver are likely to last me a couple of years, and I find old-fashioned razors do as good if not a better job than many of these multi-blade monstrosities that cost so much and are responsible for so much unnecessary use of plastic and consequent landfill. And while I'm in eco-preach mode, shaving oils use small amounts of manufacturing materials cf. squirty foam and gel - and do a better job in my experience and don't irritate my skin.:-)Shall I now move on to the heinous financial exploitation and eco-horror that is the liquid soap industry? (cf. a good old-fashioned bar)... :-)Read full review...

I tried Feather, Derby, Shark, 7 o'clock, Dorco and this one. Derby, Shark and Dorco are not even worth talking about. Dull from the very beginning and only can be used if you have no choice.Feather has some obvious problem with edge angle or something. It's undoubtedly sharp but this sharpness causes some discomfort and blades get dull after 3 shaves, exactly as many reviewers point. I tried Feather with Gillette adjustable many times searching for an optimal aggressiveness but unsuccessfully.Astra is great. It's sharp but smooth. It's even better than old times Gillette super from 1960s-70s (which you can still buy on ebay). The only modern blade that gives me BBS without ANY irritation.Of course it's a matter of skin sensitivity, cream etc but IMO this it the mother of all blades. I don't understand ones who write negative reviews. Have they ever tried it?

I really like these blades. I have tried a number of different brands and in my opinion these blades (Astra Razor Blades Green) give by far the best shave with little to no skin irritation or injury, and I am someone who does have relatively sensitive skin.I also really like that these blades do not come in any plasic packaging, or at least the ones I have received have not. They come in a cardboard box with each blade individually wrapped in wax paper, meaning it is a much better option for the environment than razors with plastic disposable heads. For anyone who is considering switching from plastic/disposable razors to a saftey razor I would 100% recommend it, I did a couple of years ago and have not looked back since! They give a far better shave, razor blades cost pennies compared to the replacement plastic heads and they are better for the environment!

These blades are amazing, I was waiting for them to arrive with a safety razor and put them through their paces with a week's worth of facial stubble and head hair (I partially shave my head to maintain a 'Viking' hairstyle). They handled the lot effortlessly. Combined with a decent razor there was little to no clogging as well which is a massive problem for cartridge blades. No plastic, very little waste when dull. I've had a full beard for well over a decade now and recently decided to return to a goaty style, if I had known that a shave could be this comfortable, effortless and affordable I probably would have not grown it to start with!

Won’t have to worry about buying DE blades for a while! Performance seems maybe not quite as long lasting as Gillette’s 7 o’clock blades, based on trying the first two of these Astra blades. Gillette blades give about 16 shaves before it becomes necessary to change blades. My beard is fairly light, but using the numbered sides and edges in rotation, 16 shaves is the norm with 7 o’clock blades. So far with Astra blades 12 comfortable shaves can be given, and then it is time for a new blade. But I’m quite happy with this purchase. Delivery was timely and I would gladly recommend the seller.

I have tried a number of different blades and tried a multi pack to see which blade worked best for me. I found these blades to be consistent in quality and each one lasts a good three or four shaves.DE shaving is the way forward for any man, why keep being ripped off for little bits of plastic with multi blades that don't shave well. Watch many of the youtube clips about DE shaving and go for it. My skin has never been so good and I am saving a fortune not buying the multi blade items and shaving is now fun with a good brush and lots of nice smelling oils , soaps and balms.

Cheapest price around, quick delivery, very low cost per blade. I have tried a few blades now and have found these to work best for me. Including Wilkinson Sword, Treet Platinum, Dorco ST 301 and Persona (Tesco) blades. I would say these are similar to both the Wilkinson Sword (forgotten cost) and Tesco (£2 for 10) ones but are so much cheaper. I did just throw the first few away after a single shave as they are so cheap but now kept one to do a few shaves to test, I've had 3 good shaves from one and I can see it doing plenty more.

Astra blades are today made in Gillette factory, Russia. They’re a reasonably price quality blades which represent value for money. It’s a blade which suits most razors, unlike many others. The performance is a great combination of very sharp and smooth, which enhances the shaving experience. Longevity is good; you’ll get 2 or 3 shaves without any tugging, than 3 you notice a drop off in sharpness in the tougher areas, ie. around the moustache. Overall I rate them 5 stars based on quality, and blade consistency. Highly recommended.

Razor: Merkur Long Handle 20c/MÜHLE comb.Soap: Floris 89/Southern WitchcraftThese blades are my new every day shaving blade just edging out Derby extra. Both are great value and deliver a great shave but the Astra are simply a little bit sharper, whilst still keeping my face intact as opposed to looking like a extra from Hellraiser like some other blades I could mention. The price is great and the blades come in a easy to open box instead of those annoying as hell to open plastic boxes!Great stuff and 5/5 for me.

It's a rebranded Gillette Platinum for middle eastern markets. The same as Gillette Ruby (Platinum Plus) for the Russian market. It's easy to assume that Gillette Platinum might have a bit tighter quality control, but in my limited experience all three feel the same and look similarly under a cheap microscope. These are forgiving and the least traumatic blades. Voskhod Teflon are similar, Personna Red/Platinum are slightly sharper, and Feather with Rapira Platinum Lux are bloodthirsty sharp.

Switched to these after getting fed up with countless nicks & cuts using Feather blades. Don't get me wrong Feather double edge blades deserve the top spot, how ever if you are slightly sloppy with your shaving routine or in a bit of a rush they do bite!So far these blades give a great smooth and close shave, and are not as aggressive as Feather.Still run a alum block over my face post shave to catch any micro nicks.Plastic free packaging is another great USP for these blades as well.
