I too had read many of the other reviews here that say how horrible this shaver replacement is, and I too was worried just like you probably are. I put off ordering one since I didn't want a piece of junk, I wanted a real replacement. I haven't replaced my foil and cutter in about 4 yrs (and they recommend doing it every 1.5yrs) and it was getting to where I really really needed to, even at the risk of getting what many here are calling a junk replacement. Well, since I couldn't find any others, I ordered the "Series 5, 51S" for about $30. When it came I noticed the foil head had even-sized small holes throughout, whereas the last replacement I bought (~4 yrs ago) had more of a honeycomb look to the holes.

I have a Braun Series 5 razor. I have had it for a LONG time. I want to explain what some people are complaining about concerning this replacement blade set not being as good as the original. The first time I replaced the blades on this about 2 or more years ago, YES, they sucked. I called Braun before ordering this NEW set (foil and blades) and they informed me that it is now back to being the same as the original that came with the razor. IT IS! I still have the original blade and foil set AND the REPLACEMENT set that basically SUCKED. This NEW one is EXACTLY the same as the one that came with the razor. I think they tried to lower the quality a couple of years ago and didn't realize that people were going to complain and then went back to the original design.

I won't bother reviewing the overall performance of the razors themselves for which this is a replacement. Presumably if you're in the market for one of these it's a bit too late for that. So, I will just address the issue of whether or not you should bother buying this replacement. Does it make sense to replace the cutter head as often as the manufacturer states, or even at all? I can unequivocally verify that Braun is not exaggerating when they claim the cutter blocks wear out after a year and a half. I don't know how the heck they quantitatively compute a percentage increase for the efficacy of a shave (25% better?), but qualitatively there is a huge difference.You probably think your razor hasn't deteriorated over the year and a half,

This is the first time in a couple of years that I bought a cutter block & foil for my Braun 8585 Razor, and they definitely changed the design for the better. The foil is a more complex (usable) pattern and the center (whisker) cutters are larger and work better. But it's the cutter block that's undergone the most changes and which really help. Instead of the blades pointing up (which tends to dull them faster in any razor), they are now pointed to the sides...where each blade piece has to two ends. Which not only works better, but keeps the blades sharper (and hopefully longer). And it's also the first cutter block I've purchased in quite a while that was so well balanced,

As stated, the new replacement head made my old shaver as good as when it was new. This is the second replacement pack I've purchased but the first on wasn't this make (Braun). This is the one I'll buy again. I thought I was going to have to buy a whole new electric shaver since mine is seven years old but luckily I found these replacement cutters and I'm pleased with the results.* Update Feb. 12 2014- My Braun 8585 shaver finally gave up completely after 7/8 years. I intended to buy the latest version Braun 7 Series but after reading the reviews I changed my mind. Decided to stay with what I know works; the 8585. Searched and found it here on Amazon for $599.00!! Found another for $499.00!!

I ordered this replacement foil/cutter set with a little bit of concern after reading some negative reviews. Received it, installed and put to use. I should have run it through a cleaning cycle first as I got a little harmless residue on my face with the first use, but that aside, it performed just as good as when the razor was new. After a cleaning cycle I had no other problems and it performs flawlessly, still the closest electric shave I've ever had, and I have no intention of buying a new electric until this one completely bites the dust, as long as I can get these replacement foil/cutters and the rest of the razor holds up.I will order this product again next time this foil/cutter is worn out,

I cant say enough good things about these shaver blades, I have a 8 year old Braun 8985 and this fits perfect and seems to last a really long time. I generally only have to buy a replacement about every 12-18 months and the replacement fits perfect and is very easy to change. It does make a big difference in the shaving when you have a new blade in there especially if you have very course facial hair like it do which I am certain dulls the edges much quicker. I would recommend buying these when they are are super sale and getting two of them that way you can wait out another sale after you use the second one up which again is like between 2-3 years total. For some background, I have had a Braun 8995 for probably 4 or so years using the original foil/blade. I just ordered a replacement and am satisfied with the shave. The replacement foil/blade are made in Germany and seem similar to the original in performance. The blade looks identical, the foil is lacking the "360" logo as noted in other reviews. The foil also has a different hole pattern and middle blade than the original. It is difficult to describe the difference but this replacement foil appears simpler and is probably cheaper to manufacture. Overall I am satisfied with the performance and it has given the razor a good refresh. I can't see anything overtly wrong with the replacement.

Some time ago I purchased a Braun electric razor. My previous razor was leaving large tracts of facial skin untouched and, when my wife of fifty years of marriage, informed me of the fact, I knew that it was time for a new razor. I then bought the expensive Braun razor. I used this razor daily for five years and the blade remained sharp to the end but it was taking marginally longer to shave so I decided to buy a new blade and foil. This I did via the Amazon route and I have been luxuriating in an even smoother face than before although after fifty five years of marriage my wife has not noticed. After buying my Braun Series Electric Shaver four years ago, I thought the suggested three year blade replacement was a gimmick by Braun to get you to buy their replacement blades unnecessarily. So, I waited a year or two, too long to replace my blade and regret waiting, because the new blade that I just purchased is fantastic and seems to be an upgrade to my original blade.The Braun Series 5 51S replacement head seems to give a much closer and cleaner cut than my original blade, with less irritation. It's worth the money and I will continue to replace my blades no on every 2 1/2- 3 years of use in order to maintain good results.

Renovates your shaving experience, but only just. The performance increase isn't really great enough to justify the cost, I still have to finish off a shave with my little old throwaway shaver, that I bought for travelling. The replacement head and cutter set for that are also so dear it's almost as cheap to buy a whole new shaver rather than bits and pieces. They're getting like the printers that they sell you at giveaway prices, then charge as much for a set of inks as the printer! As for buying expensive cartridges of cleaner for the washing and charging station, forget it! The hot tap and a drop of hand wash does fine.

As most people, I read the negative reviews first. I've got an 8000 series and saw the bashing of the "new" version of the same foil and cutter. First, I have to confess, I think I've used the same foil and cutter for at least 4 years...seriously. The foil finally ripped and forced me to look for the replacement. I found this.Once it arrived, I briefly compared the old and new. They looked the same to me. Then I shaved. Same. Not better, not worse than my 4+ year old cutter.It is just a replacement and it fit just fine. Don't read into it as being better or worse. It is the same and I'm very happy with it.

I had used my old foil for years, finally replacing it when it started to fall apart and cut me. It's amazing how I managed for forget how well it shaved when new, or maybe this is better than it used to be. But it cut my shaving time in half from what it used to take with my worn out foil. I always took the foil off and cleaned the shaver in the self cleaner without it to get a better clean. However every time I did this it reset the change foil timer resulting in me never knowing when it was appropriate. I highly recommend this whenever yours starts to feel rough because it now is so smooth.

I had not changed the cutter head or screen in many years but didn't use the Braun shaver very often, I was able to get pretty good shave with mostly dull Gillette razors. When I decided to get the new cutter head & screen from Amazon I had no idea what a difference they would make! Now I have no hesitation to fire up the old Braun 360 & I get a pretty close shave. The price was right & delivery was super quick! I'd recommend this product to everyone who wants to make their shaver like new. One other recommendation: Use Lectric-Shave before shaving, and you'll get a much closer shave!

After reading the reviews of this replacement set it was with some apprehension that I ordered and swapped them into my 5000 series Braun. However, there was no need for concern. The replacement screen and block are visually identical to what was on the shaver from the factory and the resulting shave is smooth, close, and comfortable. I don't know if the product has changed since the poor reviews were written or if the 5000 series is "more compatible." But, if you have a 5000 series Braun don't worry about the folks that have had poor performance on the non-5000 series shavers.
