For my money there was always something a little suspicious about gossamer sharp metal blades and the "comfort" word. But according to Gillette's marketing team, the more blades they throw into their razors, apparently, the more.. 'comfortable' ! they become. They overplay the comfort of more blades about as much as they underplay the added cost of adding more ever so (yeah right) comfortable blades. But sorry, two blades do just brilliantly. The reality is that if you use any more than that and you might as well use the extra blades to rip up ten pound notes, when you're done nicking your face with those deadly Mach 4's.Mach three, are little better, and just nick me all over the shop too: no thanks,Gillette. As for "Mach 4", vibrating razors and all the other BS gimmicks, used as little more than a marketing excuse to extort more money from us, I wouldn't mind, save that there is just one little and ever so growing problem, coming soon to a supermarket near you. And here it is:You read it here first folks. Bad news (and please don't blame me - I'm just the foreteller) Gillette are slowly withdrawing from sale, twin bladed razors, because apparently no one wants to buy them any more. Their marketing millionaires would tell you that Gillette Sensor Excel are now "so twentieth century", and besides, they've far more comfortable (yeah, there's that ever so irritating word when it comes to razor blades, again!) technology in the form of multi-bladed razors - which happen, wastefully, to cost more, not least because we ought to be willing, boys, to pay much more for the privilege of all that ... extra (!!) comfort.Anyway, the crunch of it is: sometimes progression is regression. This is now one of your last chances to stock up on the best razor blades that were ever invented: Gillette Sensor Excel.I've checked three London supermarkets in the past 24 hours and not one of them has any Sensor Excel blades in stock. I took that as a warning of Sensor Excel's demise. And clicked that buy button while Amazon still has stock, for sale at the right price. And, it is submitted, that you should take this opportunity to buy now too, because you won't catch this reviewer buying any of their 3/4/5 bladed madness again! Honestly, I'd sooner go electric than waste good money on unnecessary blades (remember - three's a crowd) in the name of 'progression' & added "comfort"!

As a 40 something consumer who suffers sensitive skin when it comes to shaving,& having spent a small fortune in the past on all manner of razors, I cant praise this shave enough.Of course there are always going to be those who will disagree & thats fine, but having owned one of these for what must be 17 years or more, (cant remember when first purchased its been so long!), just know that I have gladly purchased a replacement on amazon, as the clip system sadly failed on my original handle. This in my opinion, is one of those products where they just GOT IT RIGHT! Its as simple as that really. There have been many attempts to 'improve' or mimic it, but they need'nt have bothered.I guess my only real concearn is if the powers that be should decide to cease production of this system, as is all too often the case when things work well.So congratulations to Gillette for this great shave, & long may it reign! The Best A Man Can Get? Yes, if they leave it be!

After using the Mach 3 and Fusion blades for the past 10 years I got fed up of the constant razor burn, irritation and missed spots. I had read that the Sensor Excel provided a more comfortable shave and this is true. The blade is just the right size, you can shave under your nose easily and also on your jawline below the ears. Try doing that on the oversized Mach 3 and Fusion. The blade stays in one place and does not move according to the contours of your face (i.e. it does not swivel), this means that you are in control of the shave and it allows you to judge how much pressure to apply on each stroke. The fewer the blades the less irritation on your skin. Razors are getting more gimmicky as time goes on.People are falling for the 5 blade vibrating razors which actually provide worse shaves. I wonder what the future holds? A ten blade razor that emits lazers? Shaving is a simple act so keep it simple!

After being seduced by the marketing/advertising that 4 and then 5 blades were best I ditched my old Contour razor and went "multi-blade".No doubt that 4 or 5 blades gives a close shave but they did eventually cause me skin rash/razor burn after a while.I had never suffered this from my old Contour razor so decided to go back to twin blades.Compared to the bulk of the multi bladed razors this is a joy to shave with.It is small, compact and agile. It gets in all those akward places with ease and doesnt cause razor burn on my skin-no nicks yet either. In the main I use shaving soap and a brush but when I use foam or gel the results are still very good.So I wont be buying any more very expensivemulti blade cartridges when these do such a great job for a fraction of the cost.If you're tempted, try one and see what you think-for under £7 it wont break the bank!!!

Ok, this is not a new product, but if it's not broken why fix it?! This is the best razor, gives a close shave, the blades last me ages as I only use it to shave my legs. My fella winces when I'm shaving my legs in the bath as I now just speed through it, girls you know how those cheap razors cut your legs to ribbons and you get out the bath looking like an extra from a horror movie? Not with this, I've used it for the last 2 years and in that time have never cut myself. I have a few of these as the price of the blades can be a little pricey, so depending on the price, sometimes it is worth just getting another one. The razor feels comfortable to hold, easy to manoeuvre, the shave is second to none, and it is quite weighty and stable. Thumbs up.

I've been a very satisfied and faithful user of Gillette Sensor Excel razor blades since 2003, so when local stockists - and also major supermarkets - stopped selling these blades, it was viewed as the latest cynical example of planned obsolescence. A business visit to North Wales in September confirmed that opinion. Again, no Sensor Excel blades, even after searching enquiries. Why remove a successful cost-effective product from sale? Recently introduced 'improvements' appeared clumsy and not for me, upon inspection of the retail packages. Then, the light-bulb moment: what about the Internet? A swift order for two packs of 10 blades restored order. Much appreciated. Thank you!

I have for many years been using this razor until my local super market stopped selling it, then switching to their own brand. I then had to move onto the Mach 3 which I hated. No retailer in my area sells these. Found this on Amazon and bought one. Without doubt the best wet shaver on the market. If you cut your self while shaving with this or some other wet razor it's because your not using it properly. Hold the razor to the face and then let it glide across the face without applying any pressure to the face. Let the blade do the cut. If you cut your self it's because your holding the razor to hard.

Fed up with these latest hipsters rubber razor blades ripping my grizzled grey whiskers out after a single use I dug my trusty 20 year old Gillette sensor out the storage box in the roof void only to find I had difficulty in getting the blades locally , then I discovered this eBay seller .Top marks they are just as good as when I was a 38 year old newly wed guy ( 28 years ago ) .Even my lass remarked how much younger I looked after having a shave with them ... That compliment alone deserved and got a box of chocs & a meal out .............. I'm now on my second honeymoon .

Needed a replacement stem/handle as the limited edition silver one i have no longer keeps the blade head fixed in place during a shave. The retaining clips just wore out and head kept popping off the handle.I looked specifically for the sensor handle as i find the sensor blades give a more trim shave as they don't have a large frame surrounding the blades so its easier to see where you are shaving.Glad i was able to find a handle at a reasonable price.Hope this lasts as long as my silver one did which was around 15 yrs.Very happy so far but time will tell as they say.

Ok, so somehow I've managed to reach the age of 34 without ever having had a wet shave (always used an electric razor). So I read some reviews and this, coupled with Hydra Gel, seemed the perfect way to experiment. I was really pleased with the results - this razor moves easily and comfortably over the skin, giving a close shave with surprisingly little effort. As it's the only one I've used, I can't really compare it to anything else...but to be honest, I'm so pleased that I probably won't end up trying another one now. No irritation afterwards either. Recommended.

I bought this product after reading the reviews. I've tried a number of different razors and had never really found one that suited. I'd even given up shaving and started to use a trimmer because I'd got so fed up with the irritation that I'd experienced with different razors. The sensor excel is a simple razor with no gimmicks but it gets the job done, giving a close shave with no irritation on the skin afterwards. The only slight fault I have is that it clogs up a little too easily whilst shaving but it is only a minor fault.

Having mistakenly purchased a pack of Sensor 3 blades, which did not fit my Mach III razor, I found myself in the slightly ludicrous position of having to buy a razor to fit the new blades - or else see them wasted. This was the cheapest such razor I could find. It comes with three blades in all and a handy stand, beneath which is space to store a full clip of spares. The shave isn't as good as the Mach III, as you might expect, but it's perfectly acceptable and I think I'll keep the Sensor and its useful stand for travel.

I have tried and tried and tried to find a better razor than gillette sensor excel, and I have not yet found one. More blades surely means a better cut, no? No. It's like trying to cut something with a broad knife, sometimes it works better with a thinner one. Two blades, a decent angle of attack works well. I found Mach 3 and fusion just gimmicky and scratched away at my face. Shame you can't buy these in bulk and save a few quid as I'll be using them for a few years longer. Not bad for a design introduced 16 years ago.

I bought this after reading the reviews and agree that the 2 blade cartridge is the one to have. 3 blades do not improve things for me either. The Sensor Excel Razor handle is pleasant to use.I have ordered the larger packs of genuine Gillette blades after dipping my toe in the water with this product.I have been much happier shaving with this razor and with the addition of olive oil massaged into the beard and then shaving foam on top.No more razor burn and a close uncomplicated shave with cuts a rarity now.

I've had a Gillette Sensor razor for years and have always had a good shave from it, especially when a new blade is used. Fortunately the Excel range of blades fit the old razor which has let me continue using it until recently when it finally wore out. Thankfully Gillette have produced the Sensor Excel which is very much the same and continues to give an excellent shave.I think the 2 bladed option is far superior to the 3 bladed options which most razors seem to go for these days. I would recommend this to anyone.
