I have used Philips rotary shavers all my adult life and have looked to buy head units regularly on my various shavers at some time in their life, so it came as no surprise that the quoted HQ55 replacement shaving heads for my shaver are no longer made - I have always had a sneaking feeling Philips change the spares numbering of the heads the moment they put the shaver out on the market. I have also bought my replacement heads, until today, from large high street chemist chains where I could check if I was getting the correct blades by looking to see if the ones on sale would fit by looking on the box's (card's) packaging and, like some of the other reviewers have mentioned here, have wondered (and suffered from) how high the cost of the replacement heads were sold at, often resulting in me buying a new shaver as this seemed better value for money. I could not believe the "low" price that replacement heads were being offered at at Amazon but it had to worth a go and so I decided to try buying this item through Amazon for the first time! Having satisfied myself that my HQ55 heads were now HQ56 heads and that these were on offer at a very pleasing price, I ordered and waited their arrival with some trepidation. I need not have worried. They came packaged as advertised in their original Philips box and "bullet proof" plastic envelope, the box told me they would fit my razor which they did without a problem and made my shaving with the razor pleasant again!Philips point out that "every year your blades travel to the heights of Mt Everest 49 times" and I can testify changing the heads periodically is a good idea for the maintenance of one's complexion and the time you spend on shaving, but not if the price of the heads are seemingly nearly the price of a new shaver. So, in one foul swoop, you have enabled me to be kinder to the environment by not throwing out a perfectly good razor and be kind to my face. Nice one Amazon.

This item has such variable reviews that I hesitated to buy it when the head of my RQ1280 needed replacing. In fact I bought a Panasonic foil razor (just behind the Philips in the Which best buy table). The Panasonic shaves you face OK but if you are an old person with a wrinkly neck it is hopeless.I reluctantly bought this RQ/12 replacement. The bad reviews are completely wrong. If anything this is better than the original. The main difference is that the original three heads flipped open to rinse after shaving but the new design the whole top of the head clips off. It is just as easy to do. The new head will sit in the automatic cleaner just the same as the original. If you want to give it a thorough clean occasionally you can disassemble the head with the tool supplied.Philips have clearly changed the design but I suspect it is to give a better shave. It seems quieter which suggests it is more efficient. I doubt the new head costs less to manufacture. The only minus point was that the head was packaged for the American market - it is labelled "Philips Norelco". Instructions are only in English and Spanish. If you require Swedish or Dutch you will need to make sure you get a European packaged head.People with the top of the range Philips shaver need not hesitate to get this replacement head.

HQ56/50 Fully slotted single track triple head dual-blades.It should not be surprising how much of an improvement a new set of Lift and Cut heads can make to the shaving experience with an old Philips HQ6990 Close Cut shaver. Shaving time has reduced from between two and three minutes with a reasonable result to just over one minute for a much better close finish, and still no irritation. These are genuine Philips parts with the dual-edge blades on the rotors and the correct slightly oblique angle of the slots in the stators for best cut. I binned some cheap clones that claimed to be compatible but were useless when tried.I had already extended the life of the previous Philips blades slightly by cleaning the pivot hole with a 2.5mm drill, this tiny bit of extra depth helps the cutters continue gliding close to the slots instead of lifting away as they wore down.Note that these Lift and Cut rotors are the proper dual blades, and much better than the Close Cut single blade rotors also from Philips. It is a shame all the reviews for different Philips cutters and assemblies have been mixed up on this page, making it difficult to find relevant reviews for the cutters suitable for one’s own shaver.

This shaving head was bought to replace the one which originally came with my RQ1275 shaver i.e. original head was RQ12/50, which is now superseded by the new RQ12/60.The primary difference between the two heads is the way cleaning is carried out. On the RQ12/50, each cutter was individually hinged to the main body giving easy access to both the shavings and the blade. On the RQ12/60, all 3No cutters are attached to the upper half of the shaving head and is lifted off the main body in one piece giving access to the shavings. To access the blades, you need to use the supplied grip to remove the individual plastic ring which secures the blades. I found this to be more fiddly than accessing the blades on the RQ12/50 and as a result, this product got only 4 stars. This to me appears to be a cost cutting exercise by Phillips - profits before customers???Putting aside the blade access issues, the performance of the shaving head is the same as the RQ12/50 and does produce a close shave with very little effort and irritation on the skin. Good product.

Having read quite a few negative reviews about this new head i was a little skeptical about buying this one. However, after using it for nearly a month I'm a little surprised why did others not find it as good! I find this to be a brilliant shaver head, isn't flimsy at all and gives a really close shave and quick - 7 minutes as i have timed it! It is a little different when it comes to movement as well as cleaning. I found this to be having a lot more movement and in more directions than the original 3D head. Cleaning is also easier in a way as all the parts can be separated quite easily and there aren't any tiny holes left out to be cleaned in the socket like the original 3D head - all-in-all a brilliant head that gives a close shave and can be thoroughly cleaned quite easily.P.S.- since the movement is better than the previous head it sometimes makes odd noises while shaving at certain angles and applying certain amount of pressure but one can't be put off with those noises as it still doesn't affect the shaving experience.

I purchased this head three weeks ago and am glad I did. It shaves perfectly. I looked at reviews and noticed that it was thought to be not as well constructed as the previous unit. As a member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers I examined thoroughly and it is well constructed. It has greater access than its predecessor and as such more parts. A completely different construction, thought about, and user friendly. Before purchase I spoke with Phillips and asked why I should spend so much when I could buy a new razor for less. They assured me that all of their razors were of the same high quality and the choice was mine. Because my base unit is so good I purchased and am glad I did.I also queried compatibility with the Phillips dunking cleaner and was assured that despite another review, it is. I now have it and it operates without problem. Expensive, but I am appreciating the shave it provides and the way it does it.

My two sons and I each owned a Philips RQ 1000 series shaver and we all found it too harsh when shaving the neck. The two sons bought replacement heads not for the RQ 1000 but this RQ 12/60 head which is for a later, more expensive model. It fits the old shaver perfectly. They claimed that, though efficient, the new heads made under-chin shaving much more comfortable. Accordingly, I sent for the 12/60 myself. It was sent from South Korea. South Korea! But the South Korean post office and our own post office did a grand job and their parcel arrived in good order well within the promised time. I cannot fault the new shaving head. It gives a good shave and is kind to the skin,so now I have rescued a shaver I was on the point of throwing away. As well, I have become the owner of two first-class shavers, which at my age will probably outlast me. This shaving head is expensive, but in my case worth it.

Next day delivery and I read, probably like you, all the reviews, some positive, some negative about this new RQ12 head. I've shaved with phillips for 30 plus years, always using their top of the range shaver and there is no doubt that this new head is cheaper to produce, of inferior build quality and does not hinge open like the previous one. However, having used it for a week or so before leaving this review I can state that I find this much easier to clean than the previous head. It's no trouble to take the head cover off and wash out the inside and the build is acceptable and does the job. Moreover, the previous head was very noisy, this one is substantially quieter. Aside from the aesthetics,of most importance is the shave and I find it better than the previous head and for me it shaves closer. There will also be the one star reviewers o utthere, but I find this head an improvement.

After reading previous reviews I was sceptical about purchasing. After further online research and reading about far eastern clones I decided to purchase an original Philips item. I have to say that it has turned out to be great decision. The blades are extremely sharp and have reduced my shaving time. I find it very comfortable to use and have no 'red neck' issues or stray whiskers - just a fantastically improved shaving experience. Yes, I know shaving is a subjective issue, but it works very well for myself. An added upside is that the new all-in-one head is so much easier to clean - a couple of taps on the basin side (no pun intended!) and the debris just falls out. Consequently,as I use the shaver jet clean system, I am now changing my cleaning fluid less frequently and, as it remains cleaner for longer, I save some expense over the year.

Firstly, I was very hesitant to buy the OEM parts owing to the ridiculous price. However, having read the feedback from the cheaper 'Chinese?' ones I decided that these would be a waste of money. Hence eventually deciding to spend so much on the Philips parts as I hate throwing things away when they can be repaired. So, having commented on the price, I'll now cover the heads themselves. Quite simply WOW! I had no idea how worn and blunt the originals must have been until I fitted these. Firstly it takes about 1/4 of the time to shave (and I do have quite tough stubble) and how can it be that smooth? The transformation is simply remarkable, a really smooth shave and so fast. If the price had been £10 cheaper,I would give it 5 stars **** but the price is ridiculous and for twice as much I could buy a new shaver.

I was very pleased at how quickly this came through. At first I was slightly concerned to see the Norelco sticker on the product and suspected that this meant it was not an original Philipls OEM product. On checking however, I discovered that Norelcois, to quote Wikipedia "Norelco is the American brand name for electric shavers and other personal care products made by the Consumer Lifestyle division of Philips". So thanks to Amazon it was around £15 cheaper than Philips and arrived really quickly.IMPORTANT NOTE - If, like me, your shaver head breaks, be sure NOT to throw the whole head unit away as this itel replaces just the cutter holder that you see in the picture on the box (i.e.the top part with the 3 cutter wheels ) and not the whole shaver head unit that it clips on to. Happy shaving!

After buying replacement Phiips shavers for some years I now find that I can no longer obtain the smaller electric Philips two head shaver. They are no longer made. The new Philips rotary shavers are three heads and so much larger in size. I thought the cost of replacement shaver heads (pack of 3) at £25 was excessive (dearer elsewhere) but decided I had no alternative if I wanted to continue with a two head shaver. Ordered on a Monday and arrived at the end of the week (Super Saver delivery). Found it straight forward to replace the two heads. Shaver now back operating as new. Have saved the unused 3rd head for the future. Pleased that I replaced the heads despite the cost.

I used to just buy cheap electric shavers and toss them when they no longer worked but a few years ago I treated myself to a fancy one.Fast forward to 3 years later and it barely cuts, it takes 10-15 minutes to shave going over and over the same areas. I finally admit it's blunt and look around. Long story short I bit the bullet and went for the replacement head despite the cost.Ran it over my neck this morning and I'm done in 1 minute. You really don't realise how bad something has gotten when it slowly deteriorates until you get a brand new experience. It's great!Only 4 stars because it is expensive for what it is.

I was contemplating upgrading my RQ1260 shaver that I have now had for around 4 years - but then I saw that the blades themselves have been updated. Admittedly they are expensive at £60, but with the cost of a new shaver anything upwards of say £200, I decided to upgrade the blades! Very impressed. Simply able to swap them over in a matter of seconds. I know that a few reviews having commented on how difficult it can be to remove them to clean them. I have no such problems as I use the cleaning fluid in the Jet Clean & Charge which I had when I bought the shaver. Highly recommended,
