hese are good Replacement Blades. As these are replacement blades it makes more sense to comment on the actual razor that holds them.So please bear with me.Wilkinson Sword Hydro 5 Razor Blades are good and excellent value if you are able to use a blade cleaning system to prolong the life of the blades many times over. But the 3 blade Hydro are just as good in my opinion and they actually seem to be able to be re sharpened better. They do beat Gillette into a cocked hat.I should also add that they can be bought in packets of 8 and so on so to get the best value per blade you ned to get the calculator out.If you are like me and actually resharpen- well in fact all you are doing is removing the buildup of debris that dulls the blade- then the blades outlast unsharpened ones by up to ten times so a pack of 4 makes sense.I like them because they give a really great shave. You could stop right there but if you would like a little bit more info read on MacDuff!Like most men my age I am always after the ultimate shaving experience.Let's face it men are suckers for technology.I know a fair bit about shaving technology. These blade edges are thin- so thin that if you hairs were the same size as say a pencil the blade edges would be as thin as the edge of a piece of paper in comparison. They are amazingly sharp. In my time I have tried them all, King of Shaves, Stcick, Gillette.I have use both the Pro glide and the powered Pro Glide a few years back - but the cost of the blades caused me to blanche and I found that the Wilkinson Sword Hydro provided a much better and more comfortable shave.I am a dedicated wet shaver for two reasons.Firstly I have never found an electric razor that gave as good a shave as a wet razor. And secondly I find wet shaving to be an enjoyable pastime there is something relaxing and satisfying when you give yourself a wet shave each morning or whatever. You know the scenario - the face looks rough then is transformed into a thing of beauty as smooth as the proverbial baby's bum. (or so I like to kid myself)And it has been a long time since my 19yo son has been a baby so it’s been a long time since I’ve has his bum to compare!)So I tried the Razor Wilkinson Sword Hydro 3 and the 5.The 3s are just as good as the 5s as makes no difference. The old joke about the car with 2 carburettors versus one with 4 and the comparison with a cow and a woman holds true. But I have tried both so her is my report on the 5 blade ones.To business. On the first try out I gave it the full preparation mode.Got up after a few minutes then went into the shower to soften the old beard before shaving.Out of the shower and washed face and applied a good quality Nivea Shave Gel.(I really recommend this gel btw)Ensured a good coating and I was off.The blades cut closely and more importantly for my sensitive skin comfortably. But it simply did not.I also use shaving oil and that performed just as well. They were good and gave a good shave BUT no better than the 3 blade ones. What I do like about the 3 blade system is that it is much easier to clean. Also I use one of those black rubberized blade re sharpening systems. They work much better on the 3 blade systems than the 5 simply because the rubber can more easily clean the gunge that blunts the blade off.So there you have it.Better than Gillette but no better than their three 3 bladed ones.

Excellent blades prior to the most recent incarnation, these have only improved still further. I am unsure what Wilkinson Sword have done to make these better but all I know is that I have used the original Hydro 5 for some time and so when the new improved version was offered I wanted to try it. I used to be a Gillette fan and found them the sharpest most comfortable blades in use prior to Hydro 5, but once the Hydro 5 came into production not only did I fond them more comfortable in use, offering an even closer shave for less irritation of the skin, but also they lasted much, much longer. Typically I found that the old Hydro 5 lasted up to four weeks of daily shaving of normal daily hair growth. With Gillette I found around two weeks was the limit and by the end the blade was getting pretty scratchy. The other advantage was and still is the lower cost of the Hydro 5, which comes in quite a lot less than Gillette blades. On the new Hydro 5 the only visible differences are the gel reservoir which has fewer and therefore slightly larger reservoirs. The other visible difference is the colour of the cartridge which is a darker blue colour, whereas the old one had elements of white colouration. In use the new blade feels slightly smoother in use but this could be imagination on my part, as the difference is so small. However nothing has been lost in comfort and durability. The only thing that converts from Gillette blades might find challenging at first is the long hair trim facility which in the case of most Gillette blades, where it is present, is a blade on the back of the razor head - you simply turn the razor over and then shave the longer hair with this simple single blade. With the Hydro 5 there is a flip back guard (which is where the gel reservoir sits), which one has to push up out of the way with the thumb, thereby exposing the uppermost of the five blades which can then be used to shave the longer hair as the hairs can be put in closer contact with this exposed blade. This does take some getting used to and flipping a guard anyway near a sharp blade can be a bit off-putting, but once mastered it is easy and effective enough for most long hair trimming needed when shaving the facial area.In summary a brilliant blade for shaving that I will stick with until they stop making them.

I will say before I start the review that I have extremely heavy stubble and I don't know if they'll ever invent a blade which will give me a truly close shave. I've been for a cut-throat razor shave with hot towels at a barber and whilst it was certainly the smoothest shave I've had yet, I still didn't get truly smooth skin - there was the odd rough patch left, mainly on my neck.So I'll never give a five star review to any razor which doesn't give me a truly smooth shave, but that is because my stubble is especially awkward and that should be borne in mind when reading any razor review I give.I have used the Hydro 5 blades before and found them roughly as effective as any of the many Gillette ones I've used,so I tend to buy them or Gillette depending on what is on offer at any given time because they're similar in performance. These redesigned blades certainly don't seem to give any closer shave than the previous version - if anything they were possibly just slightly less sharp and I don't agree the redesign has led to less "drag" on the skin than before as claimed - possibly because the blades seem very slightly less sharp I'd say they drag a tiny bit more. The gel reservoir at the top still flips back to allow you to get at the hairs just under your nose, and I agree that it lasts longer than a normal lubricating strip. I also felt that this was genuinely improved as my skin didn't feel at all dry or irritated after my shave despite slightly more drag.So overall these are kind of half a step back and half a step forward on the old model - not quite as sharp and smooth but they do lubricate effectively and are the only blades I've used which didn't leave my skin feeling sore and dry.I wasn't bowled over by them but if you do find that they're sharp enough for your stubble and you tend to get dry or irritated skin after a shave, they might well be worth a look.I'd buy them again on offer, but overall I think I prefer the slightly sharper blades from the old ones or from Gillette rivals if I had a choice. There's little in it though and these are decent enough blades.

I feel a little frustrated reviewing this item at the price it was supplied to me! Te price does appear to vary depending on which Amazon link that you choose, suffice to say then that I am reviewing this item solely based upon the blades themselves rather than the product and price.Whenever I contemplate which blade to buy I get a nagging voice in my head saying "they are all the same" and it prompts the memory of my father returning from Poland in 1979 where he had purchased some Russian manufactured razor blades and it was at that early point in my youth that I knew that "no they aren't".For many years I have used Wilkinson blades with a blade handle which vibrates the blades; a thing which I felt was a gimmick and remain convinced that this is what it is.This does not detract from the quality of the blade or the shave. Prior to this I had used Gillette Mach 3 for many years and still believe that they set the standard to achieve in producing a good shave. I do honestly believe that the Wilkinson products are as good as the standard set by Gillette. These are new blades for me as previously I had used the Wilkinson product with a lubricating strip, as an adjunct to the blades; they performed extremely well and I reorder them regularly as part of the Amazon 'subscribe and save' scheme, where I save up to 15% off the regular price and have an automatic re-order. What I like about the Wilkinson products is that whilst they are of similar quality to those produced by Gillette, invariably they are cheaper; I have already alluded to the fact that at different locations and from different suppliers the price can change substantially.I have to say that the lubricating system with "80% more gel lubricating area" does not appear to make any significant impact upon the quality of my shave and preparing my face well through washing thoroughly, soaking my beard and using a good quality foam, oil or recently I have reverted to using a good quality brush and excellent shaving soap; combined with a good blade are the key elements of a close shave.

This is the latest evolution of Wilkinson Sword's best razor. When new, they give an extraordinarily smooth shave, thanks to the lubricating gel. This gel degrades over a few days to a couple of weeks, depending on how wet the blade is kept when not in use. After that, the razor continues to provide an extremely good shave for a considerable period.I switched to Wilkinson Sword from Gillette about ten years ago, when they were making (I think) a four bladed razor. Gillette only had three, the 'Mach 3' styled (incorrectly in my opinion) as 'the best a man can get'. Since then I've tried a couple of Gillettes when they have brought out new versions, but have stuck with Wilkinson Sword which I still feel gives a better and smoother shave. These new blades are even better than the previous Hydro5 set I was using. However, there are really two things going on here, and it's worth considering which one is important to you.The 'plain' shave on this razor is magnificent, but herein lies the problem as far as the manufacturer is concerned. Of necessity, a five blade razor will last five times longer than a single blade razor, so, although these blades are relatively expensive, they can last a very long time and still give a good shave. The 'hydro' gel does give a more luxurious shave, but it only lasts a few weeks. Wilkinson Sword would love you to throw away the blade once the hydro gel has gone. They have improved it, so it lasts about twice as long now as it did. Even so, you are throwing away something that will shave fine for a much longer period if you replace the blade when the gel is gone. It's up to you.Notwithstanding all that, these are the best blades I've ever tried.

I've been using the Hydro 5 razor for about 18 months now, I have tried the equivalent Gillette Fusion razor which is also good but I prefer this product myself. I find the shave more effective with the Wilkinson sword. It's not unrealistic to get 4/5 weeks out of a single blade (for me moderate beard growth) The hydro 5 gives a good shave and I've been very pleased with this since using it. The hydro shaving foam which I sometimes use (it's again more expensive) is also a good match for this it really does help to reduce that dry skin feeling after a shave, but I use other shaving foams as well. If you're looking for a decent budget shaving foam I'd suggest trying Aldi's one it's actually quite good and effectively softens the hair prior to shaving and costs very little.(Aldi's razors are not great though)I can recommend this having used it for some time, but appreciate everyone is unique and might get on better with alternatives. Prior to this I used an electric shaver, then I went on to use the not bad Lidl twin blade razors. Whilst the Lidl razor was quite good for a cheap alternative (and avoiding those nasty single blade bic type razors), as the Hydro 5 blades last a lot longer (I got about a week out of a twin blade Lidl) it's probably false economy going for the budget low blade shaving options. (ie you get more blade but they don't last as long)The blades are also a bit chaper than the Gillette ones so another plus to Wilkinson Sword here

These are easily as good as any razor I've ever tried and I've tried most over the years. My mainstay has been the Gillette Mach series but only when they've been on offer as they are rather overpriced, good though they are.I think these may have just usurped the mighty Gillette though as they are just as good and, it would seem, if one shops diligently on this very website, can be obtained at a far lower price than listed here. The blades click into the handle (sold separately) with the greatest of ease and you're set to go. They cut my few days growth down to baby soft skin in a few strokes, with no nicks or scratches. I didn't even have any soreness afterwards which is always a relief. The razor has a nifty feature, only on the 5 blade model, where you can flip the top edge back to allow shaving access to those annoyingly tricky parts like just under the nose.If they're anything like the Gillette blades then each one should last a good few weeks at the least which makes them pretty good value even at this price when you think how long 8 will last you. However...Strangely, if you type Sword Hydro 5 into the Amazon search box you find a pack of 8 being sold for as little as £5.75 here. Not sure how THAT works but seems rather better than the £18 being charged in this listing!Anyway, pricing strangeness aside, these are as good a shave as you're going to get and, therefore, 5 stars!

As I have stated elsewhere, I have reviewed many shaving products on Amazon. For any male of a certain age, finding a perfect razor and The Perfect Shave is not necessarily as great as The Holy Grail, but one of those modern anomalies that millions of product development pounds have been spent over the years. The double-blade razor was a major innovation when launched - when was it? Back in the Seventies? Since then, we've had variations on the theme - Wilkinson Sword's latest entry to the canon is this disposable Hydro 5 Razor + Lubricating Strip. The blades themselves, though hardly cheap, will last you a few weeks (I only shave a couple of times a week, because shaving every day really hacks up my face),the lubricating strip (which is a debatable innovation as to its usefulness) be ineffectual after about the third shave. What I think makes the real difference is the weight of the actual razor body itself - more weight makes for a better shave, that's why I cannot use disposable razors - you can't get the necessary 'oomph' behind 'em. This is a good addition to the range of shaving products on the market. The main issue with the five blade variant is the size of the blade head, though. It can be difficult to get in some places on yer face.

These Hydro 5 blades are quite bulky with having 5 blades built into the head. It seems ages ago when the twin blade razor was introduced and I wonder where it will all end. Will we see ten or more blades per head in the coming years? The bulky head did make it slightly awkward to shave around some parts, especially the upper lip. I do not think the folding back of the lubricating bar makes much difference for ease of access.I also wonder about the effectiveness of the lubricating bar as I did not feel any comfort difference shaving with the lubricating bar in place or not in place. This Hydro 5 did give a really close shave.Certainly equal to other makes on the market and although it was a bit scratchy it was no scratchier than the equivalent of other makes.I tried this against my usual Fusion power version (the one with the small battery in the handle that vibrates the head) and I do prefer the alternative power version.I did notice in Asda (08/03/2016) that the Hydro 5 razor with one blade was £3 and a pack of 8 blades was £17, cheaper here on Amazon. This was not much difference to the main competitor’s blades. Not much in it for me so I would have both razors and buy the blades that were on offer at any particular time.

I have actually already reviewed the 8-pack of these so my comments for the 4-pack stand (I have to submit a further review as part of the Amazon Vine programme). The only thing I can add is that obviously the 4-pack is even worse value, coming in at around £2.50 per blade which really is stupid money. I also don't like the redesigned stick which I got with this product - it's shorter and lighter and felt too insubstantial in my hand, so I found it less easy to shave.Otherwise, it's the same as before - the new gel reservoir is effective, more so than standard lubricating strips and lasts longer, but I found the blade just a tad less sharp - they dulled more quickly and and gave a fractionally less close shave than the old version of these. So they left my skin comfortable and moisturised, but at the expense of a less close shave.I do have very heavy stubble though so if you have lighter stubble the sharpness may not be such an issue. In which case I can recommend these for you as the gel reservoir is genuinely better. For me though these are improved in one area but slightly less good in another - so a decent blade but not amazing.

I think this may be designed for men but as it said about having a good swivel action for contours I thought it would be great for underarms and knees, bikini line etc.As disposable wet razors go it's a pretty swanky razor. It has a rubberised grip to avoid your hand slipping while wet (excellent - works really well). The razor comes in a handy base unit which it clips securely into when not in use (the spare heads live in the base too). I find this really helpful as otherwise my razor tends to fall off the shelf unexpectedly and end up in the shower floor (potentially very dangerous!)The razor itself has a reasonably wide head due to the 5 razors but is still very nimble when you use it.It glides nicely over your skin with no drag whatsoever. To really test it out I even used it just with a bit of shower gel instead of shaving foam and it was still super smooth with no drag.It remains to be seen how long the lubracating strip will last, but I'm extremely impressed so far! It's a very close shave and leaves my skin very smooth - much more so than other disposable razors I've used.

Thought I would try the hydro with the maximum edge, the marketing blurb states that the handset, blade, moisturizing reservoir have all been redesigned, it seems similar enough to earlier models that I have used from Wilkinson sword and that is to say that its a good blade, keeps its edge, provides a good shave without having to go over the same contours or areas of the face repeatedly. The moisturizing reservoir is the main selling point of this razor in my opinion, it is what makes it different to other razors, rivals and alternatives. I like it a lot of this reason and do think its what makes the difference. The size of the razor head is bulky,I've gone on record with much earlier reviews that I dont think its possible to get better than some of the earlier double bladed gillettes, or more recently the gillette power ball for a close shave in a single brush around the contours of your face. However, if that is not something which puts you off a razor straight away then the moisturizing aspect of this razor makes it worth the purchase.
