Sturdy, secure, easy to assemble, lightweight to carry. It’s my first time needing a carrier for my rabbits. It’s their first vet trip. I read a wonderfully helpfully review of this carrier, from somebody mentioning she liked the bolt feature (something I hadn’t considered to be a feature to look out for). She mentioned it adds extra security if the side clips fail or break. After reading reviews of other carriers, people mentioned the clips broke or the bottom fell off in transit and the animal fell out. So, it was a big reason I purchased this carrier, because the top and bottom can also be bolted with metal screws and not just rely on the plastic clips to hold them together. However, when assembling the carrier, the screw went in fine, but I struggled to attach the washer on the other end, it was fiddly, no helpful tool supplied to do it and I couldn’t tighten them fully with my fingers. In the end, I just used black cable ties instead of the screw bolts. Easier when dissembling for storage that way, just cut the ties instead of fiddling with a bunch of six screws.I’m pleased it can open from the top via the handle, or from the front cage entrance. The gate felt thick, rather than thin wire. The clasp feature to lock it felt very secure. I feel the rabbits will be safe and secure and can’t escape, God-willing!I bought the small 19” size because it won’t be used often, or for long journeys (vets is 10min drive away). My rabbit is the size of a small-medium cat/dog. He is a fully grown Lop rabbit, 18mth old (not dwarf or mini). In my opinion, This carrier will be suitable for a medium sized adult rabbit, or a small-medium cat. I don’t think it’s suitable for an animal of this size for a long journey over 30-45min long, as there isn’t too much space for stretching/sprawling out, or standing on hind legs. If the animal is returning from vet treatment and needing to lay/rest with minimal movement, then it’s ideal. It will also be fine for short journeys, if the animal has had exercise time prior to entering the carrier, they’ll likely stay still and sleep. For a long, lengthy journey, or for a larger cat/dog/rabbit etc, I’d suggest buying the bigger size option.Very happy with this purchase. The price was very good compared to some options that didn’t appear to be as good. My only regret is not buying the larger size, just incase I ever want to do a long journey with them (I should of thought that through better!) at least it will be easy for storage and also, the bottom section of the carrier can be used as a spare litter tray when not used for the carrier feature (yes, for those who don’t own rabbits, they can be litter trained like cats).

Unfortunately this has not yet become available to buy so I've no idea what the price will be, a factor I always like to take into account when writing reviews. However, the AmazonBasics range seems to be reasonably priced so we will assume this is an affordable item, and probably competitive with other bare bones transport boxes on here.If it is indeed the case that this item is priced similarly to other animal carriers, then customers would do well to opt for this one (or a larger version - assuming they are available!). It is super sturdy, feels very secure, and full of well thought out details. The most obvious of these, of course,is that one has the option to load the animal in through the usual side door or through the top.I always seem to get on better with the standard side doors but giving a choice seems such an obvious and simple thing to do that I'm not sure why I've never seen another carrier with this feature. The top and bottom can also be separated and stacked together, which would be handy for storage in limited space and also made it less bulky to ship. The base has a bit of depth to it so if your cat has an accident in transit, it should be contained. The latches on the openings are spring loaded and feel robust whilst still being easy to open - the side door is even easy to open with one hand - yet also very secure when closed, I've no concerns my cat would escape from this. The meal bars of the door are also really strong, much more than they would actually need to be. The top attaches to the bottom with clips which feel quite secure on their own, but there are bolts also included to fasten the top and bottom together even more securely. The only drawback I can see is the size, which will only really suit smaller cats and tiny dogs, but there is a larger version available. It is also a bit heavier than other models, but that is due to the strength of the materials and it's a small amount of extra weight for a lot of extra confidence. I would happily buy this again, and recommend to others.

In principle I do like this AmazonBasics 19" pet carrier. The price is certainly right and the build quality is very good, with one caveat (below). I do have two points to add to the reviews of others from my personal perspective:1) My cat is an old man now (16) and has always been tiny (3.4kg) and with a bit of bedding in the base of the carrier it really seems like a bit of prison to me. The vets' practice is literally a few minutes away, but I'd hesitate to take him even that far in this carrier as it's really tight inside, even for a small cat. I've placed it on the floor and the lid off with some bedding inside to see how he'd fair with it. He can lie on his chest lengthwise with no problem, and indeed he has slept in a ball, which suggest a possible "turning circle" within, but the dimensions are tight. I'd say that the 19" is fine for kittens and adolescent cats, but nothing larger.2) Others have expressed concerns on here and the Amazon USA site regarding the unusual locking mechanism employed in the top-loading lid. It probably would be fine, but if the unexpected were to happen and say the carrier was dropped, I'd argue that there is a *small* possibility of one or both of the "locking rods" slipping from the groove they are in. It really is a shame that Amazon didn't opt for a more secure method. I realise that nothing is guaranteed when transporting your pet, but I'd only use this style of carrier with a strap running around the centre under the handle to ensure that that lid can't come off.I've not opted for the larger 23" model, because of the lid. Instead I settled on the Petmate 2 Door Top Load Carrier, 24-Inch (purchased from Amazon). It's a massive carrier, overly big for my cat, but I feel *much* happier with the top load hatch.

I purchased three of these pet carriers after noting that I would be able to secure them with bolts as well as clips. Too many carriers are clip only, or they are expensive for bolt secure only. This added safety feature is really important to me, knowing what can happen when a clip only carrier is dropped (Local cat lost after carrier was dropped in vet parking lot and it broke open due to clip failure)! Accidents can happen and I would be heartbroken if a clip failed and my cat escaped onto the road and was lost or worse. The top flap is also secure and spring loaded as stated in the description, this I found was smooth to operate on all 3 carriers that I received, requiring one side or the other to be pulled in order to release the top flap, however if you were concerned about that being a point of exit, it would be easy to zip tie or use string to tie the end of the top flap to the back and sides of the carrier for those of us that happen to be paranoid about that sort of thing, or if you have a pet that likes to try to force open any exit it is aware of.The front door also has spare holes so if needed they could be tied shut. The wire door is heavy (but not too heavy!) and feels very sturdy to hold, much better than carriers I have had in the past. For the price I feel this is a great and sturdy buy.My cats are all quite small under 10lbs each, so I got the 19-inch sizes.I've placed them out with blankets in them since my cats also enjoy using carriers for snoozing spots, this is a good idea for any cat owner to do as kitty will become used to the carrier and not just associate it with trips to the scary vet place!

This AmazonBasics cat carrier is very user friendly for both owner and occupier. Having the choice of either front or top door access is first class. If your cat is injured, or reluctant to enter by the front door, the top door will be preferable (and a godsend). Both doors open easily and offer good general security for your cat. The carrier also offers great ventilation, provides privacy and protection while simultaneously permits your feline friend to see what is going on outside. This may lessen anxiety in the vet's waiting room. The complete top half can be easily removed by means of the side clips, but, for even greater security and protection while in transit, the two halves can be soundly secured by 6 bolted screws. The two tone colouring is subtle and pleasing to the eye and the quality of the plastic finish offers good durability. It is light to carry about and readily takes our Siamese cat. If you have a larger breed, you might want to consider the bigger 23 inch size carrier. I have both bought and tested a number of AmazonBasics products and have yet to be disappointed with either quality or value. A lot of thought has gone into this product and this has enhanced my favourable opinion.Update: Has proved a very reliable and safe transport system to take our Siamese to vet. Our cat has taken to it readily.

I have reviewed two or three items from the Amazon Basics range and to date I have been very impressed with the quality of each item. This is no exception being quite simply the most secure pet carrier I've ever used. Most pet carriers for smaller animals come with plastic clips to secure the various parts together. This goes further as in addition to the clips there are screws to ensure each part fits securely to the other and does not risk coming apart in transit. It is of better quality than one or two of my older named brand carriers. The main parts are plastic like most other pet carriers and are of comparable quality. The animal can be loaded into the carrier from the front or from thetop. At 19" this is for the smaller cat but there is a larger carrier in the same Basics range. This carrier has already been used to transport four kittens to a surrogate mother after their mother died :-( and has transported one of my cats to a vet for vaccinations. It is very secure in use and ideal for anyone who needs a secure pet carrier at a reasonable price.Positive points.Extra secureGood qualityChoice of loading pointsNo negatives that I can think of, a good and secure pet carrier.

I had purchased this carrier to have on standby for if one of my cats ever required a trip to the vet. Call me mystic meg, cause no less than a week later I had to call it into action. The most important aspect of any carrier I use, is how secure it feels. This carrier is assembled using clasps on the side and then secured by bolts. Although this is quite fiddly, I didn't mind as it certainly added to the security and sturdiness.I have a quite petite cat yet found the front door entrance a little small. Of course this can be quite subjective as I had one of the those cats that detests being placed in a carrier and can therefore magically increase in mass threefold at the sight of one.I therefore opted for the top loading door. Unfortunately, this didn't work out as planned, as it's not very easy to close and once the cat was placed inside she promptly jail broke out before I could close the awkward plastic bolts that it has. The only option I had was to place the carrier in an upright position and place her in the front door backwards. Once inside though, I felt she was safe and secure. Which again, to me is paramount.

Nice little box, left open on the floor at the moment for the cats to get accustomed to going into - which they aren't doing, they prefer their old, bigger box. Maybe that's partly because it's new and has a bit of a plasticky smell.Oh well, whatever the cats think of it, the people like it. It's too small for both cats, but fits one cat snugly. The holes at the side aren't nice, they are slightly too small for the cat to watch through easily. Putting it together was easy, and there are spring-loaded metal rods in the top and front to open them. It has holes drilled in the side, so if I feel that the occupant mighty open it somehow and escape, I can put in padlocks or something. The front door only fits one way round and as usual with pet boxes, it's not intuitive, being side - opening instead of a ramp. But I've never seen one with a ramp and this one was cheap. It loses a star because of the tiny peep-holes and the one-sided front opening. And if the smell of plastic lingers so that my cats are put off for much longer, I'll dock off another star.

Purchased for a new arrival (kitten) and as the first acquisition of this type didn't really know what to expect.I mean a kittens small, right? 19" sounded plenty big enough... it's not.Little kitten can only just about stand up without touching the top, it also looks really confined. It worked for bringing him home and the first vet visit but he really doesn't like being in it - I've ordered the bigger version now too... so £20 I didn't need to spend. In fairness the measurements are published so this is my responsibility. For the crate itself. Dead easy to assemble. Clip the top compartment on, bolt-it together (I wouldn't trust the clips by themselves - bolts supplied) and insert the door.Took all of a few mins. The unit itself feels sturdy enough. I get a little nervous holding it from the top handle as it feels like the top hatch but work loose but it's easy enough to avoid that by gripping with two hands.Overall, good value... just wish I'd measured it up first!

Perfect for my ferrets. (and they test things!) cleaning/holding/vet transport. top doors are very useful! front door is metal and the locking mechanism is great! would easily hold a pair of hobs or 3-4 jills for transport. i used a singe for each hob 1.7kg(boy) for vet operation. good ventilation. can attach food bowl and (small) water bottle to front without having to open it again.. will reuse for years. can see them being used for small poultry etc.ignore negative comments, just measure up before you buy and use your head. the dimensions are there! i needed it next day on a sunday and it came first thing... if you have a big moggy or dog shop around. weight will be the problem.there are attachments for straps and it even comes with metal bolts and nuts if you want to "permanently" attach the top section to the bottom or make it more sturdy. is there better out there yes. is tgis exactly what i needed next day in a pinch for a vet visit, absolutely, and some!

This is ideal for my cat. A lovely, purring, affectionate bundle of fur normally, he becomes the demon of claws and fangs when it is time to go to the vet. This makes putting him in a front opening cat carrier a problem. Being able to put him in the carrier in via a large top opening is heaven! The only downside is that the handle is actually on the opening part, making it a little fragile there. But it is still fine, even though it is a thirty minutes walk to the vets (45 minutes plus a ten minute walk using public transport, to figure!), much as I'm sure the cat wishes otherwise and would love to escape. The carrier is small but so is my cat, so no problem there. The construction is strong and sturdy, the only weak spot being the one already mentioned. No problem putting it together, either. I had looked at several different carriers in my local shops and found them rather flimsy. This is so much better and great value.

I love this carrier and so does my cat.I had previously ordered the smaller one (19 inch) which didn't work for my cat, but this one is perfect. It was so easy to get the cat in and she loves sleeping in it too. As my cat is not keen on being put in a carrier, the top opening is absolutely brilliant and big enough to get her inside without any problems. Many carriers only have clip-ons to keep them in one piece whereas this one also has a few bolts which could be inserted for additional security. The door is also very secure and pretty big which helps. To sum it up, this is the best carrier I have ever had or even seen. It will keep your cat save and it is great value for money.I would happily recommend just make sure you will get the right size for your pet.

Really strong design with screws and not clicks to hold it together, I feel that gives me more peace of mind when my kittens were being carried in it to the vets. I found two small kittens were ok but really only one size cat fits ok in it, very secure door needing you to push together two bits to open the door so no accidents can accurately in the door being opened by mistake, would have liked it to be bigger so I could get two cats in, but that was my mistake for not reading the size correct, but will still use for when I need to only take one cat at a time to the vets as I like the security and strength of this over the other basket I brought

I was so surprised when I received this pet carrier as to be honest I wasn't expecting great things when priced at only £12.49. The metal door and catch are robust and good quality. The plastic clips seem sturdy enough but it also comes with bolts for extra piece of mind. The only down side was I found opening the door on the top of the carrier to be a bit tricky but I'm sure that's just me! Don't let that put you off though as this pet carrier is the best thing I have bought in a long time and was absolutely perfect for my needs (taking my guinea pig to the vets in something neat and not too bulky). Go buy one - its an absolute bargain!

We needed a cat carrier pronto and this was our solution. All in all, I'd have to say that I am very pleased with the item. It is robust and the material does not flex under weight. The assembly was simple enough and it isn't to the detriment of the products function. The features are excellent. There is a main top hatch which you can use to drop your pen into the box or you can use the main cage door. The door locking mechanism seems a little over the top with the mechanism being housed in a large black box on the cage door. I'm sure there must be a less complicated and yet as effective solution but there we are, it still works great.
