I bought a monopod, hoping that it would provide more stability, particularly when using a zoom lens, but be more flexible to use than a tripod. There is a quarter inch screw on the handle to attach the camera. This is standard fitting for many cameras, but worth checking if it's the right one for your model before buying. The camera is fixed in this landscape position hence the stability. With hindsight I should have bought a ball head bracket holder that would allow me to tilt the camera at different angles, giving further flexibility while holding the camera steady.Folded down the monopod measures 22 inches (56 cm) and extends to 67 inches (170 cm) which is my height,so might come in handy for seeing over crowds, a use I hadn't thought of when I bought it. It extends by opening three easily released clips, then secured at the desired height by closing them again. The handle is covered in a spongy material for a non-slip grip. There is a short wrist loop for extra security. A pointed metal end at the bottom of the monopod digs into soft surfaces. A rubberised ring above this can be released and secured around the point to provide a flat base for hard surfaces. A zipped nylon carry case is included. The monopod and case together are very light - they feel no heavier to carry than an umbrella. This is a good basic item. The only drawback is that is doesn't come with a ball head bracket but these can be bought separately and attached by the same standard quarter inch screw. For the price it does a good job of balancing the stability and flexibility for good photography. In answer to a question on Amazon Answers, I have added pictures to illustrate the different sized threads at each end of the monopod,

I regularly take a monopod on hikes, finding it is an exceptionally useful piece of equipment that doesn't weigh a ton and can make the difference between a stunning shot and, well, one that is a blurry mess. I am extremely impressed with this piece of kit, particularly given it is part of the Amazon basic range; the fact it comes with a case as part of the package is just icing on the cake. The canvas case is well made, feels like it should last for years and has a shoulder strap to make life easier on the road. A full length zip enables easy access to the monopod so you can be up and running pretty quickly. Three (stiff to start with)leg extensions increase the height of the monopod to more than I have ever needed to use during countless shoots; even at full height it remains reassuringly firm without any suggestion of weakness or slippage. The cushion grip is comfortable to hold and a wrist strap means that you can be confident your camera isn't likely to hit the deck if you balance it between, say, large boulders to get perfect positioning for that `must have' shot.Having had my fingers burnt a few years ago with a budget tripod that had the habit of drooping when a camera was supposed to be held firmly, I admit I felt sceptical about this basic item. I am, however, won over and if you are trying to assess whether a monopod is the tool for you, this is a good option to try that won't break the bank.

As there is no product description - perhaps this will help...The monopod allows a still camera to be held steadier, allowing you to take sharp pictures at slower shutter speeds, and/or with longer focal length lenses, and helps eliminate camera shake in the vertical plane. When used in combination with leaning against a solid object (like a wall or a tree or a large friend [that means you, Bill!]) a bipod is created, which assists in eliminating horizontal motion.Unlike a tripod, monopods cannot support a camera independently. In the case of still cameras, this limits the shutter speed that can be used. They still allow lower shutter speeds than hand holding, and are easier to carry and use than a tripod. The Monopod is designed to "telescope" quickly when not in use, allowing it to be transported and stored more easily.A Review:This monopod is simple and straightforward to use.It comes with a useful carrying case with a strap to go over the shoulder. It has a chunky foam handle at the top as well as a wrist strap, and the clips that control the telescoping leg are solid and look as if they will last.It has a standard screw top that fits into the underside of the camera.Although this may be used as a walking-stick - it is not really going to be! But it is a lot less hassle to carry around than the tripod - and much quicker to set up and use.

This is a monopod. There is a wrist strap, a carrying bag, a screw top to fit into the base of a camera, and a pointed end with a pad which will wind down to give a pad base for indoor work. The handle also has foam for a good grip.I took this with me a on a daytime tour round the normally hidden parts of a stately home. I was hoping to take some slow shutter speed shots, to create a "ghost" effect. But for the effect to work, it was crucial that the background remained sharp and in focus. I wound down the pad - which meant there was no scratching on polished floors. A larger pad would have been handy. At 5 seconds open shutter I was unable to prevent wobble. At 3 seconds I could prevent the wobble on some shots - and so did manage to get one or two decent ones in.This is lighter than a tripod, for obvious reasons. But it as three extensions, so will open out to a long length. I found that, once screwed on to the camera, I was able to carry both, with one hand on the camera and one on the monopod. I liked that, it was useful when walking round on a tour. Its also quicker to open out one foot than three! That said, I do prefer the tripod, as I struggled to get the shots I wanted. I would consider it for a tour scenario - but if going to photograph a specific thing, I think I'd stick to the full tripod.

Best of all worlds - solid build, light to carry and extremely affordable. Comes well packaged and with carry pouch. Really compact but don't be fooled, it extends to comfortably take pictures while standing. Has now Amazon usual dual use foot - stud for grass and screw down rubber for other surfaces. Taking it on my trip to Asia for sure! Two things to add:being a man I can happily recommend this as travel monopod and a selfie stick if your camera is not too heavy; also it is great for "aerial" shots as you can simply lift it with the camera well above your head to take that shotit can also be used as stabilizer - simply expand it little bit and have camera attached, added weight will stabilize the video a bitOne thing to consider - it does not come with tripod head; it has standard camera screw and in most cases this will be all you need. If you need a head - get one; ball heads can be had for very little. Why are you still doubting? Go get one!

This is a fairly basic item which largely does the job it is intended for. Extending to a maximum of 67 inches it reduces to about a third of that via telescoping which is operated by clips. It arrives without instructions, but is quite intuitively straight forward. The only slight issue is that you have to use a little force to pull the clips out to operate them, and unless you are aware of this you may be concerned that you will damage them. There is a rubber or steel tip on the base depending what you are setting up the monopod on. I have not used a monopod before, but on the tripod I use there is a quick release mechanism which is useful to set up the camera quickly as opposed to having to screw in the camera to the monopod each time. However, I do not have any other criticisms of this fairly basic and straightforward item.

I think monopods are one of the most under-rated pieces of camera equipment - as useful as a tripod in steadying your photos but far easier to set up, transport and use.I have found myself screwing this monopod into my camera before I take it out when I know I am likely to be taking long distance shots. And here is the drawback with such a basic piece of equipment - there is no quick release so, once the monopod is on, it's on. And it's fairly heavy - if you suddenly decide you want to take a portrait shot, it all gets a bit unwieldy. If you're looking for a cheap but sturdy monopod, you could do a lot worse than this. But I can't help thinking it would be worth spending a little more to get a quick release/detachable mount,and/or a slightly lighter model.

I love this! Before I've used all sorts of stabilisers to make wedding videos and films and concerts. I even had a similar one to this that suddenly broke recently. It was one of those things that comes with a load of other accessories so I wasn't too disappointed. It gave me a taste for something similar. This is a very well built accessory and being extendable makes it pretty flexible too.I find it very easy to use one handed so the other day for example I filmed a world record winning Charleston event and festival in the day and in the evening filmed a comedy event where ~I was able to extend the monopod and rest it lightly on the floor. It all worked very well for me which the stabilisers didn't.This was also a fraction of the price..

I bought this monopod because of the price (not a professional user) and LONG (171cm). I use it with a GoPro Hero and my Hohem iSteady Pro 2 gimbal. In this combination, holding it by the tip of course, I get the camera at almost 2mt distance from me (actually 2.7mt counting the length of my arm), which allows me to film otherwise impossible to reach places and also pan like crazy. It comes with a decent carrying case and has a nice soft handle. The monopod is light so not a problem to carry around. The weak point IMO are the locking clips which are made of relatively soft plastic which will wear in time making it impossible to lock the three sections securely. But for the time being everything works as it should hence the 5 stars.

Very cheap for a monopod, but feels well-built and nice to hold. It can extend up very high (over 1.7m), collapse reasonably small (about 50cm) and is lightweight. There is a hand-strap, but it cannot see many situations for actually using it. However, a nice bag is included which has an adjustable shoulder-strap.The only draw-backs are the lack of a ball head (and therefore tripod-style handle), though as these can be cheaply purchased this actually increases versatility as one can choose not to use one, which is stronger for heavier cameras and ensures the camera is always level if the monopod is. It also has no quick-release plate, which would be nice, but cannot really be expected for such a cheap item.

Got this for under £2.50 as an add-on item.So the construction isn't perfect, The strap was too short (replaced with a cheap Wii controller strap,) and the clips are a bit vague, though they are secure. The spike is a bit short too.It opens to a perfectly usable hight, and is actually quite stable in use (even with the short spike.) It's not even that heavy.Would I buy this at full price? No. There are better out there for the same, or only slightly more expensive. Some even have a foot stabiliser. If you see this as an add-on, grab it while you can. At that price, who cares if it's lost while travelling.

This is an easy to use Monopod, basic but works well, and as stated can extend up to 67 inches The Monopod is well constructed and comes complete with its own carry bag. The handle has thick foam round it and has a good wrist strap. The monopod can be fitted to most cameras and hold the camera steady while you take pictures, very handy if you have shaky hands, can be positioned against a wall or tree to give extra stability. At the time of reviewing there is no price available for the monopod so I can't say if its good value for money or not, but its a basic product so shouldn't be too expensive.

This is a sturdy, well-made monopod, which has been very useful for keeping my camera steady when I need to move it around quickly. It also has a wrist strap at the top so that you can keep a grip on it when in use. It's very long, at 67 inches, but with the use of clips, it telescopes up to be small enough to fit into a small carry bag with a shoulder strap. I can't comment on whether this is good value, as there is no price on the web page yet, but I have had several other AmazonBasics items which have been both good quality with an excellent price, so assume that it won't be too expensive.

All good, but beware that you need to be on stable ground when you use this, and make sure that you are well balanced as well. You don't want your camera, or you, taking a bad fall.Using this mono is a real boon to my photography, easy to take with me anywhere, and very reliable and easy to adjust its height for the moment.I cannot praise this enough, and I have to add that I very much appreciate how high it is when extended to its maximum, very impressive.I got totally fed up with my tripod whilst out and about, too much hassle to set up for a quick shoot here and there.I say BUY!

I have to say i was worried with this being a budget item but my fears were soon put to one side upon opening the monopod and seeing the quality of the product sent.It is sturdy and very well made in all aspects. I was worried i wouldnt find a use alongside my tripod but om my goodness i have. it is very sturdy with a wrist strap to help keep the camera and monopod steady when in use and perfect for small spaces or quick times when a tripod is too much but a steady hand is a must.this has fast become a regular piece of equipment which goes in the camera set up everywhere i go.
