Initial impressions of this tripod were great. The legs were a little stiff at first compared to my seasoned tripod that I've had for a few years. A principle reason for getting this was that on several occasions I had set up my camera at a slight angle. This was made worse with panning when set to video mode, something which I hadn't envisioned 20 years ago with my old tripod. The Hama Star 62 Tripod is very easy to setup. This is good as there were no instructions inside the box. There are some simple picture guides on the outside of the box, but these really are simply and avoid language. The 3 legs are easily adjusted and I was able to quickly level it off with the built in spirit level on a flat surface.I would expect a similar result on a les even surface.Once I had set up the tripod I was able to identify the removable quick release plate and attach it to my camera. Replacing the plate with the camera and securing it is simple enough and shouldn't be too difficult for most people.Upon careful examination I found that the top plate is at a slight angle. Whilst not a huge angle, I have had to put in a spacer to have the camera totally flat. Whilst some may be happy with the slight angle, I have found it becomes more obvious when buildings or the horizon is in view. Using a weight on a piece of string I was able to set this up correctly. One issue with my camera on a tripod on that my larger zoom lens is a little bulky for the body. Since you can purchase spare removable release plates, which I have done so, I have been able to modify one so that the lens is no longer touching the plate. This is something I could never do with my previous tripod and will be better for the camera as there is less strain on the screw thread. This means that it will be a lot easier to change lens when I need to now as well. (Link below)I have also found that the screw that allows you to flip the camera 90 ̊ for portrait shots needs to be tight when not required. Otherwise the plate can cause a little wobble. This can be an issue for both still photography and videos. May camera, with the large lens, weighs under 750g so I was disappointed with this. The strap on the carry case is easily adjusted if required. This means that it should be comfortable to carry the tripod on your shoulder, for example, as you walk to where you want to take the photos. There are no pockets with the carry case, something which might have been useful to include. This would allow you to keep a suitable string bag which can be hung underneath the tripod to provide stability in windy weather or on rough ground. Finally do give yourself a chance to `play' with the tripod and your camera before that all important event. Give yourself the opportunity to experiment before you need it.Have a happy time photographing and/or videoing.

You will not find better at twice, or even 3 times the price, maybe much more...As well as being basically stronger than most cheapies, there are come nice features like the hook for adding a weight to improve stability in a high wind. I have not needed that yet, but would suggest a big, heavy weight that sits on the ground, and a length of elastic bungee cord might work best, and reduce the risk of dropping the weight on your foot.Spare camera mounting plates can be purchased, which is unusual in itself, and they can be fitted in all 4 orientations, so it is possible to always engage the camera anti-rotation pin, and also get the pan-tilt lever facing the way you want, not possible on some inferior items. What is more. the anti-rotation pin is spring loaded (most are not), and so will retract if you have an old camera with no hole for it.The camera mount lies down tight against the head when used in the normal orientation, and so will not slip, unlike some which are just held by the clamp screw. The legs, amazingly, have self-levelling anti-slip feet, not just simple rubber caps, and the telescoping clamps work well. The height adjusting rack has a nice, positive grip-type clamp, which again works well, and keeps things stable. The carrying case is ok too, just works as intended, with no apparent snags. The only thing that is less than ideal is a trace of friction and lumpiness in the pan pivot, however you have to pay well over £100 to get much better, and it is very easily improved. Unscrew the pan-tilt lever and the tilt clamp screw, and inject some silicone lubricant down both holes. Refit both screws and spin it around a few times. Then, it will be everything that you will need in terms of smoothness. Please do not use ordinary mineral oil or grease, as that could seriously damage the plastic parts. I used Wickes silicone plumbers lubricant, used for the joints in drain pipes, because I had some, and it worked perfectly.Having used two different and fairly miserable specimens, which each cost significantly more, I bought three of these, and am in no way disappointed. I would thoroughly recommend them for anyone with a strict budget. Obviously, if money is no object, you can do better, but most of us live in the real world!

I recently have been playing table tennis with my dad a lot and wanted to be able to see my dad and i playing. So rather than having someone to come along and record while we play and they might get bored. I thought i should get myself a tripod and i did not really want to spend to much, I was looking at some in the price of 30 pounds and up. I found this beauty and well it worked a treat and great for the price i was so shocked and could not believe what a bargain this was and it came with a case!!! jeez i could not ask for more for £11.99obviously i have not given it a proper test but for what i needed it for it is immense and i am sure it would be fine outdoors to.The tripod it self is very sturdy and is of excellent quality. I am not using a DSLR i know might be silly but i am using a Panasonic digital camera (lumix dmc fs-30) i got great results of video for what i need. On the tripod at the feet it has rubber feet which are adjustable to the floor and will mold to what ever the floor type is so it gives you a firm support. Also it is very small once folded down and does not take long to erect and then can be extended with a little crank on the main shaft. i think it was a bargain for the price. i would recommned to any one who wants to do some video or pictures its great. So overall amazing and i will update when i have been out a bit and take some photots/videos outdoors and give some more feedback.Update - (28/11/2012)went down to Brighton seafront today and took my tripod with me on my travels. First of all the tripod is so light in the case as i was carrying around my shoulder did not feel like it was even there. I made my way down to the West Pier and unpacked my tripod and within a minute the tripod was up and ready to use. so it does not take long to set up also its very light to carry on a walk. Bare in mind that i was walking for around 3hours with this on my back and i had no problems. i got some really nice pictures with the tripod but as i said i am only using a panasonic digital camera so obviously compared to some peoples cameras this is no where near as good but good enough for me. But still no negatives it is still keeping me happy and i am very pleased. Also my girl friends dad wants to get one!!

I've been doing film-making projects on the side of school work for about a year and a bit now, and until getting this tripod a few months ago, I was doing it all hand-held. I've dabbled in making some documentary type things, and in interview shots, having a tripod is essential, so I decided to go ahead and invest in my first tripod (after the gorilla pod, which I don't count given its size).I was rather excited to receive this in the mail. I recall it being a reasonably long wait, but whether this was due to the excitement of getting to grips with it, or real time, I can't remember, as I got this back in January. Regardless, it did come. It's a great piece of equipment as far as I can tell, and with nothing else to compare it to, it gets the job done and is good and easy to set up. The advantage of having a cheaper, lighter tripod means it's not only easier to carry around, but it's also easy to set up. Additionally, the cost aspect of it means that you don't need to treat it like a god, it can be used for its purpose. There are a couple of issues with it, however. There's a small spring element to it, non-essential to the workings of the tripod, but that came off. It's also not massively smooth when it comes to panning; you get, sort of a, start and stop type of movement as you overcome the inertia to start moving it, then you react to that, making you slow down, and the process repeats. Again, with nothing to compare it to, it may just be my technique, but it's not like pushing a coaster on a thin layer of water across a table, by any means. This is to be expected with the price though, so it's nothing I'm concerned with. It's built quite solid apart from the before mentioned elements (the spring, namely) - the metal is of good quality, the carry case it comes with is handy, and it has nice features like the spirit levels and multiple points of articulation.Really, this thing is great. If you're looking for your first tripod, go for this one. If you're looking for something more advanced, then maybe try something a little higher-spec.

Being new to photography and about to attend my first workshop (tripod required) I knew investing in a tripod made sense but didn't want to spend too much money as a starter.Looked at a number of different models and one thing that stood out for me was that all Hama Models received pretty similar reviews, irrespective of price (£9 - £20). I chose the Hama 61 Tripod with Carry Case for this reason, low cost, good rating and feedback and I liked the look.My experienceDeliveryArrived as promised in a box which wasn't too big and therefore eco considered which is a plusProductEaseFits beautifully within the case which is a huge plus for ease of useCompact and easy to carry around in or out of its carry case. The case has an adjustable strap and the handle on the tripod has a comfortable gripThe tripod is easy to set up, allowing me to quickly set up or compress numerous times as we moved from scene to scene across LondonFunctionI really enjoyed the easy functionality of this product which I was slightly concerned about before hand. I was able to set my camera at pretty much any angle across a wide vertical and 360 horizonal plane. The adjusting feet are great for uneven ground and the ability to take the cameraa off the tripod without having to unscrew it was a definite win.QualityIt looks good, light but sturdy. As other reviews have said not ideal for really heavy conditions (a bit light) but the sandbag hook should help with that. The clips ans screws although plastic (which products aren't?) Feel sturdy and secure. It holds myt cameras weight (bridging camera) so not sure about heavier modelsPriceTotal value! At £13 I couldn't be happier and feel that as long as I look after the tripod it will last a long time.

First - positives. I have had many tripods prior to this. Some flimsy and unreliable some solid and tough. This one is neither. It is solid enough for basic use, especially if you are using camera that is not too heavy. All controls and adjustments are plastic (except metal pieces joining them together) and the tripod is light.Versatility wise it is very good for the price. You can use it as usual tripod and you can take the middle piece out to use it as monopod. The whole setup just begs to be taken on a trip and rightly so. Nice touch that head can be removed and can be used elsewhere - i.e. on a dolly. Mind you the mount is standard 1/4" 20.Now negatives. Most joints are rivets. Not a big deal however, I saw light stands of a lesser price and similar quality with proper nuts and bolts (see Konig Light Stand). Obviously different product but similar type of mechanism. If you are planning to do any pan or tilt shots - simply forget about it. There are no bearings never mind fluid dampened mechanisms.Overall I like the tripod. Given the price value is outstanding. Granted there are flaws and it is one of the most basic tripods out there. However, the fact that the head can be removed and middle column becomes monopod is nice touch. If you need camera/camcorder to be stationary - this is for you. If you are looking to pan and tilt the head for smooth video shots - you should invest more, much more (cash and time choosing the right one).

I had been looking for a decent quality tripod for my Panasonic Camcorder and had been un-impressed with the typical lightweight flimsy tripods normally on display in the likes of Jessops, Curry's etc.Up until I took the plunge and purchased one of these I had 'wrongly' associated the Hama brand as being yet another lightweight very basic brand. I was therefore totally surprised when opening the box on arrival I was met with a super quality tripod. Nicely finished tubular legs, OK not heavy duty but certainly far superior thickness and strength of others in this price range. The head again has a nice weight to it, metal not plastic with a bubble built in for level.I nice smooth panning action and quick release platform. The carrying case included was a nice touch. It's not padded so won't protect the tripod from abuse if you like to throw your things around or let the children ride their bikes over them, but will keep it clean and allow it to be carried with ease. Finally a little hidden extra in the zip pocket of the carrying case that was not expected !! A spare quick release platform that other manufacturers are happy to charge anything from £8.00 upwards for and some allen keys to adjust/tighten the leg locks etc.All in all Hama have come up trumps with this tripod and for the money I cannot recommend it highly enough !

I have a Joby Gorillapod for my DSLR (I have one for my compact too) ages and although I do really love that, sometimes it can be a bit fiddley to set it up when you wanna take a perfectly straightforward shot, along with having to stand it or attach it on something.I decided to get a tripod, since I am not a pro photographer and don't really need to use a tripod all too much I decided I would give this a go, I thought £11.99 if it's good then it's a bargain, if not then it's only £12 down the drain. I am happy to say I think it's a bargain! :)The build quality is good, it's light but strong enough for my Canon 600D, I have used it in light wind and it never looked like it would fall over ;)I have found it tall enough to take portrait shots of myself (I am 6'1)without using the centre height column, although if you need to that does go higher. It all compacts down into a nice small size, put it in the carry case and away you go.Personally I would not take this on holiday/abroad, I am not THAT into photography where I would need a tripod on holiday, hanbdheld or my gorillapod would do just fine for me :)I cannot compare this to something top of the range, but this is great for £12. I recommend this if you want a starter tripod, or you don't wanna spend a lot of money on one

This is not a tripod to rely on for all occasions but it has proven invaluable and has a permanent home in my equipment bag. The tripod is ideal for table-top use or where there is a solid base available at a convenient height. I use a Canon EOS600D digital SLR and the tripod has proven to be solid and sturdy in landscape mode but less so in portrait mode as the centre of gravity shifts. This is easily overcome if there is a leg under the camera but I also lent a bit of support in this mode. The legs do extend but at full stretch the tripod feels a little less secure...think Bambi (if over a certain age) and you will get the idea...but the feet are rubberised and do grip well on a number of surfaces.I bought the tripod to use without the legs extended so this for me is a minor issue. The footprint is also quite small, needing a base around 8 inches wide, and the legs don't feel loose in the housing when extended. The mount screw is easy to turn even with a camera attached though some with larger fingers may find it easier to flip the mount into portrait mode which is quick and easy.

Pleasantly suprised when I opened the box. Its lightweight but seems reasonably sturdy. The head is easy to adjust, can do portait and would be smooth for video as long as you were only panning in one dimension. Quick release works well.Back to sturdiness - the higher you raise it the more prone to torsional wobble and flex. Extending the first set of leg extensions fully plus the central column (neck) about halfway gets you to about 1.1 metres, things still feel pretty stable here. However getting to 1.5m requires using the second set of leg extensions (they are quite thin because they slide from inside the supports) + extending the central column all the way.Things feel more wobbly but certainlty usable indoors and in fair weather. Wouldn't like to use it in windy conditions, I would expect it to wobble anf because it is light (1.1kg) it may fall over.Perfect for beginner or for fair weather walks/shoots. Excellent value, shame theres no bag - I think I have an old deckchair bag somewhere that it may fit into.

OK, so lets start off with some context. This is a sub £15 tripod not a £200 pro carbon fibre go faster stripes tripod. The Hama Star 61 is a great bit of kit. I bought this as a starter tripod when I got my first DSLR. When I got it I was expecting something that I would be throwing away broken in a month but I have to say, I am not in a rush to upgrade any time soon. The head is plastic and limited in the angles it can achieve, it will not really hold a heavy photo rig but then, if you are paying thousands for a camera, then get a tripod to match. However, the for now and then photographer, the eBay lister, the proud father or the odd shot of the mooner, this is hard to beat at the price. It is very light but that is good if you have to carry it round and the adjustments are plastic so probably not going to stand up to a lot of abuse. However to reiterate, as a starter tripod for less than £15, what more can you ask for?

My wife bought me this as a present, as she was fed up with me complaining That I never had a steady platform for my camera. All I can say is that it is the best Tripod I have ever come across. It has every conceivable angle you could ever use.Wether you are using a still camera or a video it dose'nt make any difference. This Tripod will accomidate any use you need. It can pan at any speed you choose at a height that is comfortable for you. Legs are adjustable to suit any uneven surface and I just cant find any fault with it whatsoever.I use my cameras a lot for sea angling photos, so the terrain is always pretty rough or I am on a boat so I need something that is sturdy and reliable. The Hama Star 61 is all of that. The best present my wife has ever bought me.Forget all those expensive Photography Outlets and thier expensive Tripods. Get yourself one of these. You will not be disappointed.

I bought this to take a group photo with my brother and sisters to give out framed as Christmas presents to our grandparents (they loved them- priceless) I am a total amateur but I love photography, I have a Sony nex 5n camera, and I went for this because of such a great price and great reviews- it is exactly perfect!- the handle is so great to angle the photo how you want- I was worried my camera wouldn't fit- it is uneven because of where the lens sits on the camera body, but it was actually fine! I used it on grass and it was totally fine, I didn't feel like I needed to use the weighted hook but I definetly would in a busier setup/windy weather, honestly couldn't be more pleased, the case it came in was perfect and is just so useful, if your just looking for a tripod for personal use you couldn't go wrong, I had no idea about tripods- I was expecting to pay at least £50!

I don't know how they do it but for the price this is amazing! It has all the pro features - it's like paying for a Hyundai and getting all the features of a Mercedes. True, you don't get the Mercedes build quality BUT for Nader £15 I don't mind and neither will you. It is strong and sturdy, pivot feet mean on all surfaces it maximizes stability. 2 spirit levels to ensure images/videos are aligned properly (this was important to me).I'm actually using this for my iPhone to take videos. This is the happiest I could be with a tripod. More happy than with a 4kg pro one, cause I'm not standing on a hill top taking pictures every day and also cause it would cost more. With this I have all the bells and whistles...for peanuts.I just hope you guys are making a profit so you can keep this up!Thanks, superstar tripod! You won't regret buying one (unless you're a doosh) :P

I bought this tripod for tweleve notes to use with a camcroder a recently bought. I bought it thinking that for the price it wouldn't be up to much but I would see how much use I get out of it and if need be get a better one, however what arrived completely took me by suprise. The tripod is well built and comes supplied with a storage/carrying pouch. The camera shoe comes off so that it could be left attached to the camcorder/camera and it has a couple of spirit levels built in. You can pretty much turn and lock the camera into position in many angles. The only minor niggle is the crank handle for raising/lowering the main pole is on mine a touch flimsy/lightweight and I think if anything does go on it,it'll be this.I cannot emphasise enough what a fantastic piece of kit this is for the money. Ideal for a beginner like me and most likely intermediate users.
