[Check out review video]AmazonBasics really lives up to its reputation. Prior to buying this one, I've had two other crates. One from Target one from Walmart. They were both crap compared to this crate. Aside from department stores, I've also tried pet stores (PetCo, PetSmart)... but you can save yourself a trip there because they sell the same crap from Walmart/Target but at a higher price. After both of them ended up breaking, and I was moving a lot at that point, I thought my only option was to spend more to get a better one. Glad I didn't have to because I found this AmazonBasic carrier!! :DMy gf and I have a cat and a pom. The crate was mainly for our Pom (~15lb)when we were planning on making a cross-country move (our cat just flows around in the car). The 19in crate was a PERFECT fit. (See pics & vid) The crate itself is VERY sturdy especially compared to those $15-20 crate from department stores. One top of that, it offers a feature that most budget carriers don't, top door. This is a genius design because it allows your furry loved ones to sit up instead of crawling all day (extremely helpful to us as we were on a road trip and majority of the hours our pom had to stay in the crate.)I do see that some people have complained about the top door opening when they are lifting the carrier. It is a potential hazard with the design, but that's why I always make sure the latches are secured and the poles are in place before I lift it. Sometimes I even just carry it like box just to be extra safe. One might say, well what's the point of the handle? Well, honestly, even when I was using the crates without a top door, I always preferred carrying the crate like a box. a) it's more comfortable b) I want to minimize the shaking and any risk of dropping the crate (even without top door, there's still risk of the handle coming off)I must say, the only one complain that I have is the handle design. The handle of this crate isn't exactly comfortable and it does hurt your hand after lifting your 15lb furry child for a longer duration of time. But since I adopted the box carrying method, that isn't so much of an issue.Well done, Amazon.

Most of the time, "Amazon Basics" are decent products for a decent price. Not the best, not the worst. They are passable products at an acceptable price. This cat carrier fits that description to a T. I considered giving this three stars, but didn't quite feel it was just OK, (Because of the Price). But I don't really feel its 4 star worthy either in that I would not tell anyone that I really like it. I think this is a 3.5 star because I neither like nor dislike it. I would describe the carrier as very utilitarian. I think it will do exactly what it's supposed to do without falling apart, and the price is OK if not perfect. I think $20 would be plenty for this, but $28 is OK.Considering how much use your typical carrier will get however, this is probably exactly what 98% of people want. If you cart your animals all over the place all the time, you may want to invest in a nicer carrier. Things to be aware of. The latch on the top lid is also responsible for the carry function. If the lid comes open, kitty is going for a ride and you are going on a cat hunt. The latch mechanism is a bit finicky because of how poorly constructed it is. It works, but you want to make darn sure that it is properly secured every time you close it. Sometimes if you don't check it, its not properly latched. Also, for larger cats, say over 19lbs. This carrier feels a bit springy to carry. I would worry about carrying a heavy cat around with that top lid latch mechanism. As long as you are keeping your eyes on that latch and making sure its properly secured, small to medium sized cats should be OK in this carrier.

Came flat packed but very easy to assemble. The clips securely hold the two pieces together but there are also screws if you do not plan on unclipping the two parts for added security.Having the handle on the top lid initially "feels" like it will pop open when you pick it up. However, this is very much a perception and I gave the carrier several good shakes (with a pair of DM boots inside rather than the cat) and, whilst the lid rattled, it did not give way. There was the same "feel" of movement when actually transporting the cat but again no sign of the lid actually separating from the box.The top opening/lid is a godsend. While the front door is very easy to open and close it requires the usual manhandling of a reluctant cat.The top opening makes for a much easier, quicker and less stressful in and out for both the cat and owner. As for size ... this will comfortably take an adult cat with a pillow, towel, toys, etc. You could probably get two small cats that know each other well inside but two adult cats are going to be a very tight squeeze.Overall I am really pleased with the quality for the price and my cat definitely prefers the enclosed privacy this provides compared to the more open wire baskets you can get.Very good quality for the money ... just takes a few uses to get used to the "That lid is going to come off" feeling when you pick it up

The kitty I got this for is a MC/Rag. so he's a little on the 'larger than a small dog' size. and this was a great fit for a sick kitty (that he was)I used to have 2 other cases that were also large and were easy to remove the top of with a few clasps, but after 15 years they were both broken and I was looking for something that would I could afford and do the same. So I got this. It's VERY easy to put together and take apart. (it's currently packed away under a chair as the top fits in the base easily for storage). there are 4 long sturdy clasps (there are also bolts if you have enough room to leave it open permanently.) the top also comes open if you need to get at your pet without removing the whole top.I also REALLY like the fact that the front door is reversible and can be opened left or right depending on how you put it together.I would say I have concerns about the carry handle, so I didn’t carry it by it, as it is part of the lid that opens on the top, and even though it is metal keeping it closed. I've never really trusted those kinds of handles, not with my sick pet anyhow :PStill... I'm sure it will last me many years to come and for the price, I'm happy with it ^_^

Great carrier and very roomy. More than enough room for my 17 pound cat so will get the smaller size for my 10 and 12 pound cats. Once together very solid. Assembly was very easy until I got to the nuts and screws. Two major problems: 1) the nuts have to be placed on the screws under the lip of the two pieces, which is very awkward, but doable; 2) the holes are not all cut properly or correctly aligned. One hole was actually a narrow rectangle so I had to push the screw through to make the hole. Three of them were so difficult to get the screws into, I asked my handy man to help. One one he had no problem, the second was challenging, and the third was impossible. The holes were not lined up and there was no way to get the screw in without taking the carrier apart and significantly widening the bottom hole, which would have made it loose. I felt that the carrier was put together securely enough with five screws so that one was left out. While I considered these to be major problems in design that should be fixed, I'm impressed enough and pleased with the carrier that I'm getting two smaller ones.

I think the top loading feature is kinda kewl, on the other hand the levers that lock the top down seem to be made of plastic... I hope they last. Also one of the pre-drilled holes for assembling the top to the bottom using nuts and bolts was off and I needed to fiddle with it to get it together (apparently I am not the first to complain about this); You definitely want to use the nuts and bolts as I am pretty sure the snap closures could come apart with a critter inside. There are rumors that the top might open if you carry it with the handle on the top, I have not experienced that, but it also has loops to put a strap that does not stress the top loading door so if your critter is hefty youmight consider attaching a strap to the rings instead of using the carry handle on the top loading door. No, it did not come with said strap, but I have had enough luggage and computer cases with detachable straps that I am sure I can scare on up. YMMV.Anyway it certainly was not expensive for a cat carrier, it is roomy enough, so I am sure it will be fine.

I bought this cat carrier as my cat has an appointment with the vet in a couple of days and I realized he is too big for the old carrier. He came from a cat sanctuary, he had PTSD trapped as a stray with a damaged leg. So my boy is very nervy. I read all the reviews and as always , swings and roundabouts. You would never buy a thing of you didn't weight it all up yourself. Oh I should say I had a time limit so needed Prime only. This carrier comes in two halves with a separate door. There are four snap clips attaching bottom to top and if there were not six nuts and bolts the clips would not work too flimsy. It is roomy smart looking and airy. The other issue is the top access to put a very chilled cat in I guess?I knew this was an issue when I bought it and I intend to use a leather strap around the middle you can't be too careful. I would have paid more for something else but more carriers come in the small size than larger. Some reviews had issues with the carrying handle but mine seems fine.

Once again, Amazon Basics hits it out of the park. There's nothing basic about this cat carrier. It is in every way the equal of major-brand pet carriers selling for twice the price. It's proven ideal for my over-15lb Maine Coon cat. The side snap latches make it easy to assemble and disassemble, and the top door can be a blessing when a pet just doesn't want to go into the carrier. The top opens to either side at will, and you can even pop it out completely to retrieve a pet who doesn't want to come OUT of the carrier. There are optional bolts to back up the snap latches for shipping or long-distance transport, though in that scenario you might want to tape the top door latch pins down just to be safe.I've seen a couple of reviews that complain about the top coming accidentally unlatched, but after playing around with mine a bit, the only way I can even imagine that happening is if you didn't latch the top properly or somebody is fiddling with the latch pins.

I bought this carrier to replace a smaller one that we had when we first got our cat. The carrier is nice and roomy and having both front and top openings is a bonus. The top and bottom halves on the carrier can be unclipped, but I secured them together using the supplied nuts and bolts, as we don't need that facility.Although reasonably well made, the plastic does seem a little flimsy in places. The carrying handle is in the removable lid, which is secured by a couple of metal rods. That does seem to be the weakest point in the design, hence the overall rating. I can see that failing if the carrier is used to transport a heavy animal. Although our cat seemed OK in the carrier when my wife and I took her to our local vet's in it recently,I am on the lookout for some sort of strap to wrap round the carrier to reduce the chances of our pet escaping if a failure does occur.Overall, the carrier is OK, with those caveats that I've mentioned.

This is a good size for our cats, who are big 12 and 13lb-ers. Having a number of ways to open them is great, as our one cat is extremely reluctant to get into the box and even more reluctant to leave it when we get to the vet's office. With these we can just unclip them and take the box apart from around her. Our vets seemed quite impressed with them and asked where we got them from.I've noticed a lot of people are commenting on the top and that it's coming open unexpectedly- that hasn't happened with ours, and our girls were considerably heavier than they are now when we got them. To be fair, we use these carriers sparingly- taking them from the house to the car, into the vet's and back again.I'd advise anyone who's worried about the lid to inspect the box thoroughly when they get it, since it seems like this is only affecting some of the carriers, and to simply lift from the base if they are really worried about it.

It needs more height. I wouldn't want to duck down that long on an airplane flight. I don't think that my cat wants to either. But it is made very well and goes together easily and is bolted together for safety (that beats those chincey plastic clips any day ALL DAY). The metal door is very sturdy, as is the double pinch locking mechanism. It has nice aesthetical beauty too, the curves (of the air holes) flow well on each side L & R. The top loading door is sturdy and very easy to operate if your fingers are of the size of an averaged size man. The plastic that it is moulded from is strong & durable (it seems to be) yet light. The colors of the pet carrier are light grey (top)and a medium darkness blue (bottom). In the local pet store I could see this crate going for $60 or more. So, this is a GREAT deal, unless your pet has more height than the average cat does.Overall I'll give it a 90% rating.

If you have obese or larger adult cats like we do, then get the bigger one. We ordered 4 of the small ones and they are just too small. The smaller one is seriously for like kittens or small cats. No room to stand up or turn around in. We used to have fabric ones from ASPCA but they started ripping and were extremely hard to clean. We volunteer at the local spca and we noticed that plastic is just superior when it comes to staying clean and preventing a cat from being crushed by something falling. So, even though we don't like plastic in general, for this purpose it works well. Definitely recommend AmazonBasics brand, and this carrier! We put cotton throw blankets in as soft bedding in the carriers.Cheaper than polyester beds and far more breathable.Source: we are those crazy cat people.*(Amazon didn't ask for this review, no one paid us, just wanted to share our positive experience)*

Bought this to move our cat 1500 miles. She hates vehicles, being forced into small boxes for transportation, and most people. This crate was so easy to put together and loading her into it was a breeze. She didn't even realize what was happening at first and by time she figured out going in the top meant the dreaded car ride, she was so comfortable with the crate there was very little fussing. In fact, she ended up liking it so well she now uses it as her bed. but anyway. It fit perfectly behind the driver seat in our little Ranger pickup. I was able to easily open the door to check on her during transit. We ended up stacking things on top of it (ran out of room in pickup) and it was super sturdy, didn't bend or anything. She fit pretty well into it. She is a medium sized cat approximately 12 lbs with a big ol' belly and she had plenty of room to stretch out or curl up as she desired.

I've got a large cat (6kg). Trips to the vet prior to getting a large top loading carrier were challenging at best. It felt a bit like wedging a sword wielding octopus into a mouse hole. He hated it. I hated that he hated it. Everyone got stressed. This carrier has changed that. He's still not a fan of the vets but at least it's a calmer experience. I have even found he let's me open the front door once he's in the carrier and let's me stroke him whilst he's in it. This is not something I could do in a smaller carrier. I've also combined this carrier with a cat calming spray. That worked a treat too. It's a spray version of the calming plugins you can get for cats. Some if the reviews mention the build of this carrier. So far I haven't had an issue with it. For short car journeys it's fine.

Bought this carrier for our heavy 24 pound cat (we are working on her weight!). Not only was this one of the few top loading carriers that we found, it was also much cheaper than any of the alternatives. Having already purchased the smaller one, we decided to get the larger version of this as well. Everything has been great so far - easy to assemble, great materials, good size. Our main complaint is that we do not feel comfortable using the handle on this carrier. The handle is attached to the top door, which is connected to the rest of the carrier with only 2 thin metal rods. We feel like if we used the handle to pick up and transport our pet and carrier, it would bend and deform over time.I have not seen any other better solutions to this issue (other than not having a top door).
