I've been doing film-making projects on the side of school work for about a year and a bit now, and until getting this tripod a few months ago, I was doing it all hand-held. I've dabbled in making some documentary type things, and in interview shots, having a tripod is essential, so I decided to go ahead and invest in my first tripod (after the gorilla pod, which I don't count given its size).I was rather excited to receive this in the mail. I recall it being a reasonably long wait, but whether this was due to the excitement of getting to grips with it, or real time, I can't remember, as I got this back in January. Regardless, it did come. It's a great piece of equipment as far as I can tell, and with nothing else to compare it to, it gets the job done and is good and easy to set up. The advantage of having a cheaper, lighter tripod means it's not only easier to carry around, but it's also easy to set up. Additionally, the cost aspect of it means that you don't need to treat it like a god, it can be used for its purpose. There are a couple of issues with it, however. There's a small spring element to it, non-essential to the workings of the tripod, but that came off. It's also not massively smooth when it comes to panning; you get, sort of a, start and stop type of movement as you overcome the inertia to start moving it, then you react to that, making you slow down, and the process repeats. Again, with nothing to compare it to, it may just be my technique, but it's not like pushing a coaster on a thin layer of water across a table, by any means. This is to be expected with the price though, so it's nothing I'm concerned with. It's built quite solid apart from the before mentioned elements (the spring, namely) - the metal is of good quality, the carry case it comes with is handy, and it has nice features like the spirit levels and multiple points of articulation.Really, this thing is great. If you're looking for your first tripod, go for this one. If you're looking for something more advanced, then maybe try something a little higher-spec.

I had been looking for a decent quality tripod for my Panasonic Camcorder and had been un-impressed with the typical lightweight flimsy tripods normally on display in the likes of Jessops, Curry's etc.Up until I took the plunge and purchased one of these I had 'wrongly' associated the Hama brand as being yet another lightweight very basic brand. I was therefore totally surprised when opening the box on arrival I was met with a super quality tripod. Nicely finished tubular legs, OK not heavy duty but certainly far superior thickness and strength of others in this price range. The head again has a nice weight to it, metal not plastic with a bubble built in for level.I nice smooth panning action and quick release platform. The carrying case included was a nice touch. It's not padded so won't protect the tripod from abuse if you like to throw your things around or let the children ride their bikes over them, but will keep it clean and allow it to be carried with ease. Finally a little hidden extra in the zip pocket of the carrying case that was not expected !! A spare quick release platform that other manufacturers are happy to charge anything from £8.00 upwards for and some allen keys to adjust/tighten the leg locks etc.All in all Hama have come up trumps with this tripod and for the money I cannot recommend it highly enough !

Pleasantly suprised when I opened the box. Its lightweight but seems reasonably sturdy. The head is easy to adjust, can do portait and would be smooth for video as long as you were only panning in one dimension. Quick release works well.Back to sturdiness - the higher you raise it the more prone to torsional wobble and flex. Extending the first set of leg extensions fully plus the central column (neck) about halfway gets you to about 1.1 metres, things still feel pretty stable here. However getting to 1.5m requires using the second set of leg extensions (they are quite thin because they slide from inside the supports) + extending the central column all the way.Things feel more wobbly but certainlty usable indoors and in fair weather. Wouldn't like to use it in windy conditions, I would expect it to wobble anf because it is light (1.1kg) it may fall over.Perfect for beginner or for fair weather walks/shoots. Excellent value, shame theres no bag - I think I have an old deckchair bag somewhere that it may fit into.

OK, so lets start off with some context. This is a sub £15 tripod not a £200 pro carbon fibre go faster stripes tripod. The Hama Star 61 is a great bit of kit. I bought this as a starter tripod when I got my first DSLR. When I got it I was expecting something that I would be throwing away broken in a month but I have to say, I am not in a rush to upgrade any time soon. The head is plastic and limited in the angles it can achieve, it will not really hold a heavy photo rig but then, if you are paying thousands for a camera, then get a tripod to match. However, the for now and then photographer, the eBay lister, the proud father or the odd shot of the mooner, this is hard to beat at the price. It is very light but that is good if you have to carry it round and the adjustments are plastic so probably not going to stand up to a lot of abuse. However to reiterate, as a starter tripod for less than £15, what more can you ask for?

I bought this to take a group photo with my brother and sisters to give out framed as Christmas presents to our grandparents (they loved them- priceless) I am a total amateur but I love photography, I have a Sony nex 5n camera, and I went for this because of such a great price and great reviews- it is exactly perfect!- the handle is so great to angle the photo how you want- I was worried my camera wouldn't fit- it is uneven because of where the lens sits on the camera body, but it was actually fine! I used it on grass and it was totally fine, I didn't feel like I needed to use the weighted hook but I definetly would in a busier setup/windy weather, honestly couldn't be more pleased, the case it came in was perfect and is just so useful, if your just looking for a tripod for personal use you couldn't go wrong, I had no idea about tripods- I was expecting to pay at least £50!

I don't know how they do it but for the price this is amazing! It has all the pro features - it's like paying for a Hyundai and getting all the features of a Mercedes. True, you don't get the Mercedes build quality BUT for Nader £15 I don't mind and neither will you. It is strong and sturdy, pivot feet mean on all surfaces it maximizes stability. 2 spirit levels to ensure images/videos are aligned properly (this was important to me).I'm actually using this for my iPhone to take videos. This is the happiest I could be with a tripod. More happy than with a 4kg pro one, cause I'm not standing on a hill top taking pictures every day and also cause it would cost more. With this I have all the bells and whistles...for peanuts.I just hope you guys are making a profit so you can keep this up!Thanks, superstar tripod! You won't regret buying one (unless you're a doosh) :P

I bought this tripod for tweleve notes to use with a camcroder a recently bought. I bought it thinking that for the price it wouldn't be up to much but I would see how much use I get out of it and if need be get a better one, however what arrived completely took me by suprise. The tripod is well built and comes supplied with a storage/carrying pouch. The camera shoe comes off so that it could be left attached to the camcorder/camera and it has a couple of spirit levels built in. You can pretty much turn and lock the camera into position in many angles. The only minor niggle is the crank handle for raising/lowering the main pole is on mine a touch flimsy/lightweight and I think if anything does go on it,it'll be this.I cannot emphasise enough what a fantastic piece of kit this is for the money. Ideal for a beginner like me and most likely intermediate users.

I bought it for my Fujifilm HS25 camera, which fits perfectly on it. Seeing the price I paid (11.99), it is very good value for money tripod, when compared to others in this range. I was actually surprised with the quality & features. There is a quick removal thing where camera get plugged, allowing to remove camera immediately when required.Height can be adjusted with a rotary thing in the middle. Base is fitted with rubber cap, so it does not move/slip. Overall, very nice tripod in this price, unless you want to spend 20 pounds or more. Also, if you think your camera is quite heavier than mine (Fujifilm HS25), then you may look for a bit heavier tripod for better support. For normal SLRs /bridge cameras, it would be perfect. Fujifilm HS25 is quite heavier than most bridge cameras though, and fits fine on it. Thanks.

Admittedly I've only just received this but first impressions are extremely positive and I'll add to this review after a period. I bought this for some occasional amateur video camera work and had spent a long time reading the various reviews. It seemed to me that the sub £25 tripods whilst adequate were either flimsy or lacking in other ways so I decided to spend a little more. This tripod is extremely solidly built and made of metal in all the places that you'd want a beefier construction. The panning and tilting functionality seems to be extremely smooth and the wind up central extension a nice touch. The legs extend extremely easily and are locked with efficient 'swing'clips rather than a twisting motion. All in all I'm extremely satisfied at the price point and features.

This item may be cheap but its well made with providing very stable platform. The hight is great for the taller person. It has little bubble levals on it that i didnt need but im sure some ppl will make use of these. When it is set up it locks very solid all over. there is a small hook at the bottom to hang a weight to make it more stable (but it most likely wont get used being very stable by itself) Dont be fooled by the price, this item is worthy of a much higher pricetag. I used to think "you get what you pay for" but this one breaks the rules. I only wanted a cheap tripod for my spotting scope. This one has now become my camera tripod and my other one is being been downgraded for use for the scope. The only risk you take with this item is (in my case my wife) wanting one.

When I look at some of these reviews I honestly wonder what people expect from a tripod for less than £15...No, it is not the same quality of a tripod that costs in excess of £100, but then you wouldn't expect it to be.Lets but this into perspective. For the price this is an excellent product and was actually a lot better than I thought it was going to be. It is lightweight but not flimsy and it has a lot more extras on it than I thought it would such as the spirit level, fully adjustable height, full tilt capabilities etc.The only MINOR issue I have at the moment is that it is ever so slightly stiff when you want to turn and wouldn't be ideal for a smooth pan. However, mine is still brand new so there is a very good chance that that will loosen up with time and use.

I'm often shocked by some reviews where people buy cheapest product and expect top quality, and then give the product bad reviews. In my opinion, this tripod is excellent. It have all the additions you need.* extendable legs* mount which moves in all direction* removable camera attachment* level bubbles for.. you know... level* handle* HOOK!! - to hang backpack or something else as an anchor to eliminate shakes!* case with strapAnd let me tell you for what we have used it so far:* very old ZENIT camera* bit old Canon camera* binoculars (with additional adapter)* new Nikon cameraIt is very good product if you treat it with care. It's light, handy, and great choice if you are on a budget.Cheers.

Having never used professional camera equipment before I didn't really know what to expect from this for what seemed like little money. However I was very pleased with the design and quality of the tripod. Pan and tilt work smoothly and the adjustable legs make it easy to level on uneven ground. This particular Hama Star 62 model also provided the additional height some of the lower level models didn't so it's easy to use standing up straight (I'm 5'11"). I actually bought this to use for taking photo's and video with an iPhone 5S so I also purchased the "Joby GripTight Mount for Smartphones" (also on Amazon.co.uk) which worked perfectly with this tripod and the phone.Excellent product and highly recommended.

I had to digitize my sketches from the college degree as I have no space to store tons of paper. Instead of buying a 100£ scanner I simply bought this, mounted my DSLR to it, and within a few days time I have managed to shift through 12 inch thick pile of paper. The tripod is reasonably well made, as expected at this price point, that's not to say that its flimsy or anything. The head can be pointed downwards and even with my kit lens 18-55mm I was able to photograph A3 sheets without legs getting in the way.The adjustments are a bit difficult cause its not very precise but then again during normal use that shouldn't pose any issues.Definitely get this if you want a tripod but can't justify buying one.

This tripod just blew me away. I have recently started getting into lunar photography. I had a cheap and nasty tripod that came free with my telescope which made it almost impossible to take clear photos due to the tripod moving whenever i pressed the shutter. This tripod is so much sturdier, and with the added bonus of being able to weigh it down with the hook...incredible. Has made a vast improvement to my pictures and has vastly sped up the amount of time i need to spend setting up. I'm also 6' 3" tall and this adjusts to a height that i don't even need to bend over to see through the viewfinder anymore. And for less than £15!!This tripod seems like paying 5 times as much would still be reasonable.
