Personally I do prefer bagless, apart from the savings from not having to buy bags, you can see what you have sucked up and if, god forbid, the kids have left something on the floor that ended up in there, it is easier to get out! (luckily only happened to me twice in the last 14 years). It looks nice, it does pull along easily but if you pull a bit too quickly on the hose it can tip over and end up on its side. It still works though. The first main moan I have about this vacuum cleaner though is the metal suction tubes. Mine seem to have to have left the factory upside down! When I first assembled this, and then tried to extend the tube I found I was having to bend right over to the floor to reach the little slider to pull it to release the extension part. This seemed really odd and awkward. So I checked both ends, too it off the main head and the tube and turned it around, thinking I had put it on the wrong way up, but it was simply not possible to put it on the other way as the entry point to the vacuum head and the exit from the plastic tubing are different widths and it will not fit it any other way. I then double checked the picture on the box and on the amazon page and sure enough they show the metal tube being the way I would expect it to be, in that the small plastic slide-release is close to the top so that you can hold the head to the floor with your foot while you release with you hand and put from a standing position. Mine is definitely not so and so I either have to bend over (I am short and it is a hassle - so probably not great for taller people who definitely need to make it longer to work with) or lift up the tube and awkwardly somehow release and pull at the same time. It's strange!!!! Never encountered it before with a cylinder vacuum. The suction is definitely strong enough. It lifts up the vinyl flooring if you forget to reduce suction when moving from carpet. The carpet is cleaned well though I do find that a rotating brush is preferable and the foot adjustment for lowering or releasing the line of bristles at the front of the head does not seem to lower the brush part any lower than the surrounding plastic so I cannot see an awful lot of difference with or without them lowered. It does a good job for the price. If you need a vacuum under £100 that actually sucks in a good way then it will be a good choice. It also comes with some attachments for crevices and fabric/upholstery etc though there is nowhere to stow them so either you carry them with you or go back to wherever you store them if you need them.I have a 7m sitting room and find that from the plug socket at one end, I can only just get to the other end of the room really, albeit a little awkwardly. I end up having to unplug it and plug in to another socket halfway in the room. So a longer cable would have been nice.Due to its compact nature and the length of the cable I would say that this is better suited to smaller houses or apartments. I would see you struggle to do the stairs with this because of the cable unless you do halfway from the bottom and the other half from the top!

This is quite a heavy cylinder vacuum cleaner, and exceptionally powerful too. It has a rotary power dial, and even on the lowest setting it was really difficult to make progress on rugs with a thick pile. Another issue is that the retractable mains lead is not over generous. On hard surfaces, laminate floors, and carpets with less pile it is absolutely brilliant, but my wife and I struggled against the suction to make progress on our thicker rugs. You get two small tools (crevice and upholstery) and two larger vacuum heads - one for solid floors, and one for carpets/rugs. All of these push on, and do not click into place, so you have to push them onto the extendable chrome pipe quite hard,or the suction can pull them off whilst you are vacuuming. This can make them difficult to remove after you have finished vaccuming, but hopefully they will become easier with use.In common with a lot of cylinder cleaners without rotating brush heads, the LX5 is not great at vacuuming up pet hair. The suction is there, but the vacuum heads tend to push it around into one large pile, and wont suck it up. I had to remove the flexible hose and suck up the collected pile separately. The design of the LX5 is great, although there is no on-board storage for the tools. The retractable lead mechanism works well too. The filters are easily accessible and can be washed, which is a big bonus. Emptying the generously sized dust cannister is simple, and mess free.I wouldnt recommend the LX5 for elderly users as I consider it a little too heavy, and too powerful for many of them to manage. Similarly I would advise anybody with limited strength in their arms/hands (arthritic conditions etc) to look elsewhere.I used the LX5 to vaccum my house less than an hour after vacuuming with my AEG rechargeable stick vacuum. The amount of hair and dirt it picked up was quite astonishing.Pricewise it is excellent value, although of course not as convenient to store, and not as easy to push around as a stick vacuum, or upright.I would recommend the LX5, especially if you want to ensure your carpets, rugs and floors are as clean as possible. However, do try before you buy if you are elderly, or have limited strength in your arms.

Easy to use and only weighs 4.5 kg. It did topple over a few times as I pulled it around corners but seems robust enough to take it. It comes with 4 attachments, a nozzle for carpets, hard floors, upholstery and a crevice nozzle where the end flips over to a brush. There is no turbo tool, the one that has a rotating brush for carpets. I found the carpet tool good although it takes a bit more push pull effort than a rotating brush would. It has a useful telescopic handle so you can adjust the height to suit. Great for reaching the cobwebs on the ceiling. The hose is 1.7m long and the cable length is 5m with a good strong recoil. The bagless cylinder is 1.8 litres and is easily emptied. It has washable filters. This is the lower end of the price range so wasn’t expecting quality. Some of the attachments are a bit plasticky but you get what you pay for. It only has a 2 year warranty. The AEG LX5 is only 700 watts but it has great suction. I was impressed at how quiet the vacuum cleaner is, yet powerful. There are different power settings from minimum for curtains, upholstery, carpet through to hard floor. The settings are changed by twisting a dial.I have used quite a few vacuum cleaners over the years and currently have the Dyson upright rollerball style and a newer cordless model. These are both good cleaners but I don’t rate the cordless models for doing a thorough clean. I find it doesn’t pick up the bigger bits and lacks the suction of a corded vacuum unless you have it on full power but this quickly diminishes the battery. They are lighter though and would probably suit people who don’t have the strength for a corded type or someone who doesn’t make as much mess as we do in our house I think it’s always worth keeping a corded vacuum cleaner especially if you have lots of carpets until the cordless type improve considerably. A good little pull-along at the low end of the price range, quieter than most with impressive suction.

Well now, this was surprising. I tested this and then allowed my mother to borrow it for a while and test it independently to see what she thought too. My brother also borrowed it for a while and was pleased with its performance too. Everyone was pleased with its performance. My mum had told me to expect that it would not perform well in terms of suction as it is low power, compact and also a bagless vacuum cleaner of the compact rather than upright variety. However, when both she and I used it we found that the suction was good, whether using the attachments or just the regulation nozzle.I gave it a little less in terms of manoeuvrability as two big wheels on either side I thought made it a little great in terms of its turning circle. On the other hand it is not a heavy unit and it is possible to tug it along easily enough, it does not take especial strength, dexterity and flexibility to use it, either to move it around or to use it to vacuum. We used it on wood floors, carpeted floors, mats, deep pile and short pile and also a car interior and on fixtures and fittings, ie curtains, fabric furniture etc. It was satisfactory on all counts. It is pretty intuitive to set up and operate, however, there are good inlays which explain all, are easy to follow and not long winded or unnecessarily wordy, dull or difficult to follow. The power cable could not be longer without the unit itself having to be larger than it is. This would be good for a variety of settings but for anyone who is living in compact conditions, ie a small flat or apartnment, it would be a great vacuum cleaner. It is also easy enough to maintain and keep clean, the bagless feature is fine and not particularly dusty or dirty to empty between vacuuming jobs. Recommended.

Getting this AEG LX5 bag-less vacuum cleaner was quite something as it looks ‘the biz’ as they say but in use its quite amazing once out the box and a quick look over the instructions. It’s quite well made construction-wise and has a solid feel to it, the layout is quite functional with a retractable mains lead although I feel it could be a tad longer compared to our old, another brand model, foot operated on/off switch with a rotary type switch that you use to set the suction power but for a mere 700 watt rated motor, this does really suck the dirt up! - even on its lowest setting it works really well and very impressed us all plus being a bag-less model its very easy to empty (not to mention saving on buying bags..)plus washable filters and so a further saving. If anything the supplied tools and heads (they are a push fit and not of the ‘click on’ sort as they have to be pushed on hard but suspect this is because this was brand new ‘out the box’ but once on, they stay until you want to take then off) but do not store within the machine itself as they have to be stored elsewhere but this is a minor gripe considering the job this machine does really well. The two large type wheels make it easy to move or pull around and overall a pleasing and powerful machine that so far has done everything its been used on with utmost reliability, so disregarding the lack of on-board tool storage, this is a very good, hardworking, solid and powerful cleaner but cost effective with no need to buy bags or filters in the future – nice one, AEG

this well featured machine does the job wonderfully. I like the selection of tools- upholstery, carpet, hard floor, crevice nozzle. The other features are retractable power lead, washable filter, really easy to empty, and light enough and portable enough to carry up the stairs with little effort. Its great value. As regards instructions, another of the who needs words when you can have a diagram to puzzle over brigade. But most of it is pretty intuitive, assuming you have actually met a vacuum cleaner before. The flexible nylon (?) tube is ok, not sure exactly how strong, but the chromed metal extendable extension is first class. The crevice nozzle is great, just a little bit too clever,as it has a little brush which pivots over the top when you want to use it- and then flops out of position irritatingly, but I can live with it as it does the job very well. Ease of emptying is first class, press button on body of the appliance and the dirt body comes off easily, and goes back just as well, with a nice clean click. For a small compact machine, it cleans really well, I was surprised when I learnt it was only 700 watts. I have a couple of other machines, I like my vax best up until this came along, but the value for money and the supplied tools with this one for me just wins the day. It does the job really well and i love the ease with which I can pull or carry it around the house.

I am very, very impressed with this vacuum cleanerI got it to replace my old AEG vacuum which uses a bag and the difference in performance is incredible. The power of this model is very impressive and amount of dust and dirt that it picks up on a seemingly clean carpet is immense. It works just as well on laminate and rugs as on carpet, and despite this, it is incredibly quiet and the space in the bag less cylinder is impressive. The length on the power cable is impressive and i liked the green and red dots on it letting you know when you were at the limit of the cable's length. It also has an automatic wind back function, which works really well every time I use it. The hose length is also impressive, and the pole end is easy to extend and shorten. The interchangeable heads are also very easy to apply and dis-engage too. were both very generous and the swivel and tilt function on the head itself has allowed me to get to many places the upright vacuum could not reach. The Vacuum itself is very sturdy, and lightweight so is great for moving around the house. The bag less cylinder is easy to empty and reattach, making it a very practical piece of kit to use.The unit itself comes with one head, which is a bit tight as normally AEG provide three, but these can be bought separately if needed. That very minor issue aside, this Vacuum can be summed up in one word: Brilliant!

This bag less vacuum cleaner has incredible suction - in fact it has a rotary control that you may have to use to turn down the power! This vacuum is mighty powerful!. It has two other controls - a big power on/off foot-switch and a cable rewind button that is symmetrical with the power switch. Emptying the dust away is simple - one press of one switch releases the container and you just walk it out to your wheelie bin and flick the bottom open. It's two big wheels make it very manoeuvrable and its plastic pipe and extensible metal arm allow the range of detachable tools to reach anywhere. The vacuum is very compact but not lightweight (a function of that very powerful motor!).I found thetube/tools a little awkward at first but then I remembered that it is normal when they are brand new and even after one day it was a lot easier.I have to say that as much as I usually like an upright that this is so powerful and flexible that it has me totally won over. This is no good for the frail or the elderly but it is absolutely brilliant for the able bodied and it delivers a great clean every time. We vacuumed yesterday, but after one day this sucked up so much from our carpet that this product demonstrated its worth.Truly a super vacuum and one that will deliver great cleaning for a long time to come!

This vacuum takes a few minutes to assemble from the box with the assistance of the pictorial instructions. It is lightweight and comes with several attachment tools. The suction is so strong that it can lift up the carpet from the floor but suction strength can be adjusted to four options with a dial for curtains, upholstery wooden floor and carpet. The small crevice tool is great for cleaning skirting boards and window and door frames but makes the machine much noisier. The dust container is large and easy to unclip and reattach by pressing the large button and to empty it there is no need to get your hands dirty as a button triggers the lid to open. The lightweight design makes it easy to move around the house and the mains cable is 5m long which is adequate for medium size rooms.Cleaning the stairs is a bit awkward as there is a lack of a medium sized attachment but the telescopic tube stretches far enough for a long reach. The best points about this vacuum cleaner are the suction strength and the crevice attachment. Negative points are lack of a suitable stair-cleaning attachment and the machine is much noisier when using the crevice attachment. Unlike some vacuum cleaners there is no place on the machine where  attachments can be stored.A confident 4 out of 5 stars.

The AEG Total Home LX5-2-4DB, LX5 Bagless Cylinder vacuum cleaner is a compact vacuum cleaner with a powerful yet reasonably quiet motor. The materials used and quality of build appear to be excellent. It comes with a range of tools for hard and carpeted floors, crevices and furniture. It is easy to manoeuvre and I personally found it to be lightweight enough to comfortably carry up and down stairs - although my partner would disagree with me on this point.Emptying the cylinder is straightforward enough, once out of the machine it just requires the push of a button to open it up and release the enclosed debris. The suction is variable using the dial mounted on the top back of the machine and is strong enough to partially lift carpet on the top setting. Also on the back of the machine is a large cable rewind button and an equally large power on/off button - both easily accessible and easy to operate. My main complaint with this vacuum cleaner, as with all cylinder cleaners that I have owned, is the fact that you need a large space to store them in. Unlike upright vacuum cleaners, which just slot into small corners of cupboards, these machines with the hose clipped onto the front, become unwieldy objects which take up a disproportionate amount of storage space.

I am a huge fan of AEG vacuum cleaners and use them regularly, bagged and bagless models. This one is certainly lighter and easier to carry between floors, it's also pretty quiet. In my opinion this one is not so robust, metal tubing and cleaning heads are not of the quality I have come to expect from this brand though admittedly the pricepoint is lower.Four levels of suction which are changed by turning a rotating dial on the body, tools simply pull off to switch over. The suction is effective at every level, I used low to clean curtains and higher on carpet. On even surfaces the head appears to skip over carpet when pulling back,it doesn't have the same hold from edge to edge that my other cleaners have.Cylinder is easy to remove for emptying however after removing all the contents I still see debris trapped between the rubber seals and filter, to properly clean I would need to screw off filter housing.I will likely use this on stairs because of the light weight but for serious cleaning I will stick to my older models.Good price if you want a handy vacuum and don't want to be stuck with the cost of bags.

Suction is very good, although it invariably is with a new vacuum, especially a cylinder. Mine came with two heads, a regular head you can flip the bristles in and out for vacuuming over rugs. And a head for wooden flooring. It also came with two tool attachments, a crevice tool that converts into a brush and a small upholstery head for furniture and curtains. The big wheels made it easy to manoeuvre. The cable isn't overlong but adequate for a small house. You can click the head into the stand once you are finished vacuuming. This is energy rating is A. It runs quietly at 80 dB. It is labelled as 28 kW per annum. It comes with the usual two filters. I was pleased to see that both filters are washable. It recommends you wash the main filter once a month, and the hepatic filter on the front once every six months and you leave them both to dry for 24 hours. It has the one click release for the dust cylinder. Also, it has an automatic cable wind.So there doesn't appear to be any spare parts you need to pay out for. That is, if reading the pictograms correctly.

Vacuum cleaner at the cheaper end of the spectrum. This AEG is well put together, much better than my upright Hoover. Easy to connect up with the metal telescopic nozzle and get going. Two buttons either side of the unit, one to wind up the cable once finished and the other the on/off switch. A dial is on the top of the unit so you can turn up/down the power. I found that this little thing had a hell of a pull and for most carpets had to dial it back. It is difficult pushing/pulling so not ideal for those weak in the arms but impressed at how much it pulled out of the carpet which my elder Hoover and Dyson could not.Besides the main floor connector, there are three other ends: upholstery nozzle, crevice with brush tool and hard floor nozzle.None of the components felt slack in any way.The unit itself is reasonably heavy so not easy to kick around. It loses a star because of the difficulty moving it across carpets but also dirt seemed to get trap at the top of the cylinder so doesn't naturally fall out when emptying.

The AEG LX5 Bagless Hoover is our first foray into to the realms of a bagless hoover. On the face of it, the AEG LX5 seems capable enough to tidy up the job, and the ergonomic design seems to well facilitate an amount of flexible suction, via its onboard dial. The bagless system, can at times be problematic. As there always seems spillage when trying to empty the unit. It is not a tidy system to deal with if you're in a rush. With a well-shaped body, the AEG LX5, and the corresponding large wheels make it easy to manoeuvre the unit. Not to sound repetitive, but the vacuuming power is good but you may need to repeat area coverage to ensure all debris is picked up. Please note that this hoover is not that lightweight, and may be an issue to someone who may have physical ailments, otherwise a recommended hoover.

This is a neat and effective little machine that would be perfect for keeping a flat or starter home neat and tidy. The appearance of the cleaner is pleasing and makes a good first impression coming out of the box. Assembly is simple with logical instructions. Suction is powerful for the price you're paying, and it cleans well, even on pet hair. I felt the instructions for emptying and maintaining the filter were bit complex and after following the guidance as well as I could, I didn't feel confident I'd done it properly. I also felt that the machine could have dome with another metre / and a half of flex.
