Woodford rye is the lesser known and appreciated whisky from the core woodford range. I picked a bottle after a recommendation, although i have to admit im more of a scotch drinker. Preferring the smoky islay whiskies and costal malts. I do own other rye heavy whiskies such as four roses single barrel and bulleit frontier, although will fully admit these are not so suited to my palate. Also i will admit im not a die hard fan of woodford reserve, its a great bourbon but for me probably more suited for cocktails rather than sipping. I do like American whisky honest.... hopefully i can prove it to you.Woodford rye to my mind is the product woodford reserve could have been,

A more characterful and rounded version of Woodford (which I think is OK but nothing exciting, this version I like much more). Its a heavier rye style (unlike Bulleit or Wild Turkey which go for the lighter style - though both are very nice), this is closer to Rittenhouse and you get a fair bit of rye chew for your money. Although for close to £50 you could get something even more exceptional, if you can grab this for around the £40 mark it's well worth a try.

I’ve enjoyed Woodford reserve on quite a few occasions but this is another level. It’s almost addictive, the balance is superb each sip delivers something new. Loads of complexity but super smooth too. I made a smoked old fashioned with it using cherry wood smoke and this was perfect for this. If you can but for £30 or under it’s a bargain. Not sure some of the RRPs are accurate. Normally around £35 which is a very reasonable price.

Have to agree with the other reviewer, this is a stunning and under appreciated whiskey. I actually am a fan of Woodford Reserve bourbon for sipping but this, I think, takes it to a new level. There’s some family resemblance to the bourbon here but this is more complex and interesting. Very smooth and delicious.

Actually bought from ASDA for £25. Great value and really enjoyed this despite generally preferring scoth or bourbon.A bit more of a peppery, spicy taste to this in comparison to the bourbon and provides a really nice alternative in certain cocktails.Works beautifully in a mint julep or a whisky smash.

Huge fan of the original Woodford Reserve so I was very excited to crack this open on Christmas. Only meant to try a little, but half a bottle later, it's a definite winner. Definitely recommended if you want to try something different from the usual gem.

I like the taste of the normal from this brand so thought I would try the rye, it didn’t disappoint and is a smooth tasteful drink

A really lovely rye, especially for just £30 (definitely a steal at this price). Great spice level and makes a fine Manhattan.

I like Woodford reserve and it was good to have another style from the same distillery that we have visited in the USA.

Good Rye Whiskey at a reasonable price (for now anyway) keep your eyes peeled for prices.
