Slightly put off by multi-language manual and what appeared to be complicated instructions for building it. Still, I managed to build it in a day (pretty much a whole day!) with no great problem. You have to cut the preformed body out of the plastic (a bit like cutting an ice cream tub) and there are about a million pieces, but they all come in about 6 bags that if kept separate you never really have trouble working out what goes where. The trickiest bit of building I found was applying and joining long-thin stickers to curved bits of car body, and the most tedious bit of building was cutting the stickers and body out.Runs beautifully slowly and fast....very fast.Too much power and two wheel drive means the back-end slides readily but this is where the fun is!Mine has survived crashing, rolling and being stood on without breaking and a bit of genius design means it's painted on the inside of the body shell so the plastic gets scuffed but the paint not.You need to supply paint for it (and it doesn't have to be black!), and the radio & battery is not included. If you can, get a spare battery and a fast charger too - though the 3000mAh batteries I got seem to last well. One last tip - buy a metal bearing kit for it. I'm not sure how well the supplied "plastic bearings" would last (just oversized plastic washers) and replacing them (or retro fitting the metal bearings) would mean taking lots of it apart.

This is a great re-release of a classic Tamiya buggy design. I like that my eight year old kids were able to build the exact same kit that I built when I was their age. Quality of the parts are as good or better than the original. Having kids learn on a kit buggy that is rear wheel drive is SUPER beneficial to their driving skills. Because they built it from a base tub kit, they understand how it works and how to fix it when things go wrong. Also taught them about gearing, the importance of lubrication, damping oil, how NOT to overtighten a set screw (had to do one fill and drill, but they understood after that...). The RTR 4x4 buggies are fine (they also have a Volcano),but do not teach much about torque and drift control, etc. This buggy makes you WORK when you drive it. Just making it go in a straight line is a challenge... 8-)Keep in mind that this kit does not come with ANY electronics except for the brushed 460 standard drive motor. But, again, as compared to the RTR kits, this allows you to talk with your kids about the importance of a high quality transmitter, sealed servo's, etc. The point of these kits it they are pretty inexpensive, with good fun factor and great to learn with and get the RC bug.

This thing is a hoot if you're looking to relive some 1980's remote control car memories. Because it's a re-release of a vintage car, don't expect modern behaviour in terms of the way the car handles. It does bounce around a bit but honestly that's part of the fun - it's a little bit 'wild'!Paired with a Flysky GT3b transmitter and receiver, Futaba S3003 servo, and a Hobbywing 1060 ESC it runs very well. I was a bit surprised how explosive the speed was the first time I started driving. I put the ball bearing kit in as well (I would recommend this, the stock 'bearings' are just nylon discs). Really nice kit, detailed instructions. It would be great if it came with an ESC,but since it is a Japan import it does not include the ESC. Build note : don't overtighten the screws that attach the plastic parts, just snug them up.

These are lovely sturdy, high quality RC cars. Very fast to drive and good fun to build. My 13 and 14year olds managed it without too many problems. Cutting the body out is a little fiddly and fitting the rear tires is a two person job.Top tips :Getting the rear tires on the wheel looks impossible going with the method in the instructions. We found it straight forward but with two people. First soak the tire in very hot water then one person pulls the tire apart like an elastic band while the other person pushes the wheel rim in perpendicular.Allow another 50 quid for remote control and battery (ours came with the speed controller)

Saw the kit at a nice price and remembered how I loved my old Hornet so went for it. The only problems I had was the import cost which I had to pay extra when I collected it from the postal depot, and the kit not coming with a speed controller. Building my new kit was as easy as I'd hopped and the excellent quality hasn't changed in over 20 years. There may be modern cars out there but the old ones are still great. Young and old will love it, if you had a Hornet before you'll remember how good it was, if you hadn't you'll enjoy it just the same. Real fun on wheels.

Always wanted one as a kid, used to carry the Tamiya Catalogue with me everywhere I went in my school bag but Santa never delivered that much wanted gift! It has not disappointed and has been great to build and drive with my son. It looks daunting at first but it is easy to put together. My tip would be to go for 3300 Mah batteries and a fast charger as last a lot longer than the standard batteries. this is a reissue of an 80's design and RC cars have moved on there are cheaper more modern offerings available but for pure fun and nostalgia this is hard to beat.

This Car is the best bargain for the features and performance whether you are new to the hobby or experienced, the RS540 Motor is a sure upgrade, the entire car is tough and can withstand much, it is able to be further upgraded, bearing set recommended. The car also comes with the late electronic speed controller as well usually purchased separately. requites a steering servo-Futaba S3003 Standard Servo ... is what I got fulfilled by Amazon. Just get a radio and receiver and battery and you're ready to roll.

Instructions aren't brilliant, but it's a really nice little 4-5 hours to build and paint and decorate this.I always wanted one, and I got one for my Son, we built it together and drive it together, he loves it so much (he's 5 years old - its too fast for him) and we discuss what we can do next, well worth the money - but please make sure you allow for:RC Receiver / transmitterESC (if not included)Steering Servo7.4V Battery + ChargerPAINT (Black)which will add another £50-£70 to the build price.

I have over 60 rc cars and some more than five times the price . Yet I always pick this one up first . Why . Because it's simply the most fun and I always get people asking where I got it from . Fun fast and simple to build. A great kit to get into rc . Or just to take you back to the 80s .YOU CANT GO WRONG .MAKES YOU WANT TO BUST OUT THE MULLET LOL

Had one as a kid, now introducing to my kids. The only negative is that it said tgat it came with a speed controller; the one I ordered did not. Disappointing to begin assembling it with my son only to tell her we have to wait a few days because a part that was described as being included, was not and had to be ordered.

Many hours of fun, and frustration, building the kit and more amazed that it worked 1st time! Please note as I found out to my cost that a speed controller is not included in this kit or the ascom radio control unit I purchased. A suitable controller is TBLE-02 available via search.

I had this car in the early eighties when I was a young lad. I have now bought it again for my son - and it's still terrific fun. I can totally relate to my son's excitement - as I felt exactly the same 25 years ago. Now, can I just justify to my wife that I need one also?!

The hornet is just as fast now as it was back in the 80's. Awesome car, novice build, just take your time. Also the description says you need a esc but there is one already provided in kit. That is why I gave 4 stars instead of 5. I bought a esc for nothing.

This product is good quality and value for money, i enjoyed building it and now enjoying driving it. The parts are good quality and the instruction manual is easy to use and read. When built it is fast and also great at driving offroad. I just love it.
