I received this kit for Xmas and it's been VERY fun building it. The engineering behind the design is very cool and intricate. Unfortunately, some pieces require a LOT of force to fit together and I've managed to break the engine camshaft which is meant to move the valves in the cylinder head. I didn't realize this piece had broken until well after the steps to fit the engine into the car frame, so it was too late to disassemble and repair. Once the pieces are fixed together...they're not coming apart. Also, there are like a 1000 gears in this kit and none of them mesh smoothly. The end result is that the car does not roll at all once completed. If I were to do this kit (or any other UGears kit)

This is my first UGEARS model and very pleased with the design and end product. It does require patience and a certain amount of dexterity with your hands/fingers especially when it comes to the “power” i.e. rubber bands. These i found very difficult to fit into the groves cut into the discs and in the end only managed to get two of the three (each side) fitted, breaking the grooves in the process (fortunately there are spares!). Needless to say my end model did not drive but then in my ignorance the gears were not lubrigated (waxed) enough and therefore to tight.Steering works and model does move forward and backward.

My first experience with Ugears was the Hurdy Gurdy which I found reasonably easy to construct. I have managed to play God Save the Queen on it. I am very interested in old cars and so I purchased the U-9 Grand Prix Car. I am 75yrs old and I found the small items a little tricky. The most challenging part was connecting the rubber bands into the slots for the motor. I watched the video of the young lady connecting them and she made it look so easy, it took me several hours to complete this operation. I do think that the rubber bands supplied in the kit were thicker than the ones she used in your video. But I managed to complete the task and I’m pleased to say it all works. (See video).

Wanted a kit that looked good and provided something different to other plastic offerings. It over achieved this requirement easily.Parts are perfectly cut and presented with clear instruction booklet. Quality is fantastic. The challenge of assembly keeps you focused and is rewarding as you build and test a fully functioning engine and gearbox (even before you tackle the rest of the car).Displaying the finished model is a natural progression from hanging your planes from the ceiling with fishing wire when you were a kid starting out.Met all expectations and more from start to finish. No glue, no screws just lots of patience with a level of problem solving added for good measure. At the £36 I paid,

UPDATE: After contact with Ugears and examining the gearing carefully, I found a crushed cocktail stick. A quick replacement and the car works. Just a hint, the fan behind the radiator sticks, it's not necessary to the workings so I removed it, the car worked betterJust finished making this. Some parts are very tight, I broke a front wheel support trying to fit the seat. Also put the drive shaft in the wrong way round, one end is slightly longer than the other so take care.Overall the most complicated I have made, the most important thing is IT WON'T WORK.All the parts move when rotating the drive shaft manually but will not run when wound up.Yes I did wax and sand all moving parts.

This is an absolutely superb wooden model. Very high quality lazer cut boards that are well marked. Easy pressure will push out the precut pieces but definately take your time here to avoid any accidents.Instructions are clear and the model design is accurate for assembly without any problems, designers even have marked areas of caution in the plans. Of course age ranges vary greatly as an experienced model maker or 12 could do this one rated as 15. But it is an advanced model and not quick toy.Allow quite a few hours for construction as the pressing out of parts and a little sanding smooth will give a great result.I'll definately get another.Tip ..... take time with the pieces and press together carefully.

This was my first gears model, and it has provided many hours of construction pleasure. The parts are all clearly numbered and the instruction book comprehensive. Care has to be taken when removing the pieces from the sheets of plywood but none got damaged during the build. I would note that the small piece of wax supplied to lubricate parts was a bit ineffective but I used an alternative. Patience is necessary to assemble this model and a sharp craft knife is a must. My only criticism is that the drive mechanism, rubber band power, cannot be tested until the model id complete, and then it is too late to add addition lubrication to the gears.

This was a great project to complete, after reading some YouTube attempts at building. I have put not durable only because it is not a toy to be given to children. There could have been instructions to try to run the drive at the stage of construction before building the body which I did as was initially tight but by getting the parts to turn with just a partial tension on the drive bands was able to make sure everything was free. The car only runs about three metres in both forward and reverse and looks great so will be putting it on display as it looks really impressive and will shortly be ordering the Railway Engine as have the bug and really enjoyed the challenge.

We bought this for my 83yr old dad at Christmas as a long-term project because he's partially sighted. It took quite a while to enlarge all the instructions for him from the online pdf but meant he was then independent. Unfortunately one of the tiny components snapped in half at an early stage and he was then stuck. Along came COVID-19 and unable to go out he dug it out again. After scouring his man shed he found something to engineer a repair and he continued. And now it's finished and he's dead chuffed with himself as with limited sight it's been a real challenge for him! Brilliant project from UGears. Now, which one next?

I bought this as a Christmas present for my engineer husband, and loved the fact that he couldn’t wait to open and start building it.He has been engrossed with it which for me was an absolute delight.However the main crank broke, but this did not deter him he stripped it back down and mended it with wood glue, and continued to build, now when it is almost complete the crank broke again. I know he will strip it down again to repair it as he will not finish it unless it actually works. Hoping his next repair of the crank will hold as seeing the thorough enjoyment he has had I would like to buy him more.

A fantastic model for an adult to build. What is good is that it does really work. Unlike some models which do not. I was impressed by the quality of the product. The spares supplied are a real plus. I will compliment UGears on their customer service. I managed to break a part that had no spare. I contacted UGears and they supplied FREE OF CHARGE replacement within 2 weeks. Highly impressed. Would recommend these models for all model builders.I have bought 2 more since. Ideal gift. Thank you UGears.

This is my second Ugears model I've done after the motorbike. Fantastic models and great fun to pass the time. All parts are well made and nice and clear instructions and you get a nice working model at the end. All the tools you need are provided, I would have some superglue on standby because a couple of pieces might get broken but that’s not a issue really. Just bought the boat, after that will tackle the big boy truck !

This is a brilliantly designed model car with professionally laser-cut sheets of parts easy to press out and use, and an excellent 50 page full colour book of illustrated instructions. It requires a reasonable degree of patience and skill to assemble and ensure that all of the working parts operate as they should, but successful completion is very satisfying. A top class model kit highly recommended.

What a great model to build. Maybe not the first UGears you should do but I did and it doesn’t work. The gears are tight somewhere and I’m working to try and rectify it. That is the only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars. And it hasn’t stopped me buying more (Roadster and Treasure Box). Hours of enjoyment and it looks great when completed. It doesn’t really matter to me that it doesn’t work yet.

Brought this a week ago and started to build a few days ago. As long as you take your time and use the wax and a good blade at hand everything should be ok. Very well cut and very precise. The tooling bit for cutting to size the cocktail sticks is quite flimsy as I broke it quite easy. Only struggle was with the spare wheel position for some reason. Anyway go and buy it as as wonderfull
