It's that time of the year folks! Everybody who can't afford a Dyson superfan rushes out and buys a cheap generic white plastic fan! I do it every year . . .but not this year. No more plastic for me. I want good old fashioned metal muscle - teeth - power and a bit of a looker. I found it. I'll just say it from the get go - I'm a big fan of this fan! What do you get? It's a meaty bit of kit and arrived well packaged. I have uploaded a few pics of the item unboxed so you can see all the parts.Pretty easy to put together - two people would make it much easier but it is doable if on your own. Simply put it's just a case of building the stand - attaching the motor - attach the back mesh guard - attach the fan - attach the front mesh guard! You will need a philips/crosshead screwdriver and It took me about ten minutes. There is an instruction booklet of course. It definitely has a retro/vintage look and feel about it which I like a lot.How does it feel?Okay, this is 'all' metal folks. The only plastic parts are the dial and the oscillilation button - that's it! I also checked the entire casing/stand/blades/guard with a magnet - trust me - it is all metal! The build quality of this fan (in my opinion) is first class. It has a weighty solid feel to it. It has been built to last. How does it work/perform?It has two knobs. It's bi-knobule. The on/off knob also cycles the power of the fan through it's three speeds and the oscillation knob is just up or down to sweep the fan or keep still! In use - brilliant! The lowest setting is great for my bedroom on these hot steamy nights were having right now. I had it about six foot away and oscillating and it kept the whole room cool until I woke up freezing at 4am to turn it off.I'd say (for me) the middle and highest setting are for bigger rooms. I've got it on the middle setting right now at 10am in my living room and it's nice and cool. Later on when the house is in full sun about midday onwards I will crank it up fully to blast cool air around the room and it does keep it nice and comfortable which is a relief from these 80° plus temps we've been having here the last few weeks. It's pretty quiet on the lowest setting given the volume of air it puts about. Obviously it gets louder as you speed it up. I've put a short video up of it going through the settings so you can get a feel for the noise and how it works.I checked on the Swan website and it's a few quid more expensive on there so you're saving a few quid here. Also they quote it pushes 38 meters cubed of air per hour around on it's highest setting. If you can visualize that - it's quite a lot so that's all good.A few stats . . .45WClass 23 Speed settingsAir flow: 38m3/HOscillation functionAdjustable tiltSelf assembly requiredDiameter: 12 inchesDimensions: 35 x 26.5 x 47cmTo finish up - I can definitely recommend this fan if you're browsing fans and have come to this point! It ain't cheapo plastic rubbish - It's an all metal air pushing machine from a bygone era.Update 7th July - My partner has now bought one after seeing mine!Update 26th Aug - Just dismantled the fan and reboxed it for storage until next year. Life saver ??

I have been using this for about 3 weeks. Initially i was a little disappointed at the amount of plastic on this fan (because i was expecting it to all be metal after looking at the questions and answers on this item...), but, having used it for a good few weeks and inspecting it to see weather i wanted to upgrade, i think i can safely say it is a very well made efficient fan and i'm definitely going to keep it. Although isn't made of as much metal as i would have initially liked, the plastic is it made from is very thick and good quality. None of it feels weak or cheap in any way, it all feels heavy, strong and well made. It looks nice as well with the vintage styling,it's not an eyesore like those cheap generic white plastic fans you see. It comes with a 2 year manufacturer guarantee and you can tell it is made to a very high standard so I'm not worried about it burning out any time soon. Just to clarify, the base, cage and blades are metal, the rest is all plastic. Don't be put off though because it is good quality. The best thing about this fan though is it's performance. It moves a decent amount of air for such a small fan and despite the blades being very small, it does it very silently. I never have it above the first setting and it's very quiet, quiet enough to sleep with it on in fact. The oscillation movement is very smooth and silent, and the fan adjusts easily in fixed position. What i like most about it is how far the blades channel the air. Some fans don't direct the air flow very well so you have to be sit fairly close to feel the air because it goes out to the sides and dissipates quickly, with this fan however, you can be sat at the other side of the room and still feel a breeze because it channels a very narrow column of air over a long distance. So overall i can't fault it for the price. So if you want something that is built to last, efficient, functional and nice to look at, look no further. You can't go wrong for the price.

Like a lot of recent reviewers, the heatwave of summer '18 has caused many to acquire any fan they could get their hands on. At the time of ordering there weren't a lot of fans in stock but this one looked like a reasonable fan.Firstly I think it's a pretty nice looking fan. I went for the bland black colour but the more colourful options looked great. I didn't find assembling too tricky, although they diagram isn't brilliant, but looking at the photo of the fan on the box provided enough extra detail.I already have a Dyson fan as a point of comparison. The Swan noisier but not so bad that it kept me awake (I'm a light sleeper too). It has three settings, and it's lowest is actually pretty powerful, and to get the equivalent air flow from the Dyson it also begins making a fair bit of noise.I do wish it had some extra settings: one or two slightly slower speeds so that if the fan is close by it's not too overwhelming.

Overall a very pleasing retro looking fan with solid build quality. It was a slight headache to put together because logic would dictate that you put screws in a small, easy to spot bag. Well from what I recall I had a screw or two trapped in the recesses of the box and they could have made their way out. Luckily they didn't and I was up and running in no time. The fan is noisy - it has to be expected. A silent fan in this day and age is a rarity and fans back in the 80's were loud so one could say this mimics the real thing. Purchased to handle the summer heatwave of 2018 that hit the Uk my wife and I had no issues with the noise at night truth be told.It was used for about a month or two and we had no issues during that time.Hopefully it'll hold up when taken out for use next year.

Don't know what other people are on about with regards to the noise. This fan is not as noisy as i expected. In fact it's rather quiet. As for the wind speeds, it's also not as bad as people are making out. Yeah, if you have loads of papers about, they will fly. But if you want a fan that will keep you cool on really hot days, and won't make much of a noise, while also looking great then this is a top buy.The base is metal, the fan blades are metal. The stalk is shiny plastic. But its hard to tell that it's plastic just by looking at it. You have to assemble it, but it's easy as hell. I'm autistic and found it a piece of cake, and it was assembled in seconds. The fan itself looks great, really retro and the red gives a pop of colour to a room. First class buy!

Really pleased with the fan, it has got the look, good breeze, good size for a bedroom, good to leave it on sideboard chest. The higher speed setting the louder it gets. Setting one is good breeze and quiet enough to leave it on while sleeping. I also got the taller 16" one, that one is also brilllant, the setting 1 is equivelent to the setting 2 of this one, good for larger kitchen dinner living room. Plastic motor cover and plastic pile bothered me a bit in the beginning, but I quickly got over it as they are all in the same colour! my husband is very happy with if too! We wanted to get a fan for many years now, very please to have made the right decision with the good discounted price!

Looks great in my bedroom nice grey colour goes with my decor you do not have to put this together as it works straight from the box I use it every night on 1 it blows a nice cold breeze on my face while in bed as a lady of a certain age ,I was worried that it was going to be noisy but is not noisy at all it has a very soft whirling sound which helps you drift off to sleep I have put some white tack on feet at the back of the fan so that it tilts slightly forward as my my chest of drawers is rather high and I needed the cool air to blow down on to me the feet are very sturdy and there's no rattle to the fan highly recommend his Swan retro fan

VIBRATES when turned on and shakes the bedside table. Think the blades or centre hole is misaligned. Have contacted Swan for help, will update.Swan customers services read our Messenger message but ignored it, twice, they read our Facebook message and told us to email them but gave us an email address that didn’t work. So eventually we returned the fan for a replacement with amazon who as usual were great. The fan itself is solid, mostly metal and powerful. There is a noise to it but it’s calming if you like that sort of thing which I do. It’s by our bed and it’s lovely. The replacement fan doesn’t vibrate and is perfect.

Brilliant fan overall considering you purchase it for a reasonable price.PROS:- Definitely effective cooling, even on speed 1 its much faster than my existing fan of the same size.- Looks very stylish.- Power cable quality is very premium.- Good degree of rotation.CONS:- Not very quiet on the slowest speed, would definitely have it off at night if your a light sleeper and its in the bedroom.- A bit fiddly to assemble but not agonizing.- The center cap with the swann logo rattled a bit, had to take it out and put some blu-tac on the inside before fixing it back on. 4 bendable metal arms hold it in place.

Arrived extremely quickly. Not the easiest to put together, but then again for are hopeless at any DIY. The fan itself looks stylish and of good quality. It's very sturdy. And the 3 power settings are a lot more effective than I'd imagined - it really does cool the room down effectively! The higher power settings are a little bit noisy but not sure what you'd expect - to get a silent but powerful fan you would have to spend a lot more. I could certainly sleep with the first power setting on, which in itself is quite strong. Overall I would highly recommend this especially for the price.

With the summer we've had, these were amazing! I bought the 12 inch desk fan in cream and the taller bigger one in blue. I love the colours and the retro look, but aside from that they are so powerful. We normally only use setting 1 or 2 at most. With the 3rd one it can feel a bit like a hurricane. The little one keeps our whole living room cool and isn't too noisy so we can still watch films. The large one we leave on oscillate before bed and the room is like a fridge! It's like we have air conditioning. I'm a light sleeper but the noise level is fine for me. So happy with these!

One you have it up and running its a grand fan and stylish too. Noise levels low.Instructions poor, so when I put this together it would not work - 10 mins head scratching and realised the rubber spindle cover is too long - once the fan is mounted rubber sleeve pushes back into the motor and stops rotating. Nowhere do the instructions suggest you might need to trim this by a 1cm or 2. May be a manufacturing glitch on my particular fan but suggest check yours rotates freely when fan mounted before finishing putting together. But for this would have given 5 stars.

We bought 2 of these fans, 1 in blue and the other in cream. Both fans have an appealing aesthetic and overall work very nicely. Firstly we assembled the cream fan with little difficulty, we then turned it on and had no issues with noise. However with the blue fan we did find it rattled. You can fix this by tightening the silver 'thingy' that holds the fan blades in place. Both are now as quiet as you can get without splashing out for a bladeless fan.To sum it up, this fan is a nice design, not too noisy and look brilliant in most rooms!

9.6.2018

Simple and looks very retro. I got the blue and it's a classic 50's style colour. The fan is very solid and has minimal vibration or rattles so it's not distracting in my study. It has 3 speeds, controlled by a wheel on the top and an oscillate function. The only downside for me is the lowest speed setting is quite powerful. Not ideal if you just want a gentle breeze. The fan is easy to disassemble for cleaning but I've found on the whole it doesn't seem to clog up with dust nearly as quickly as similar sized plastic fans I've had.

I read a review mentioning it’s noise and I thought it would be just your standard noise of a fan but, when it wasn’t on I was suprised to hear that it was actually a lot louder than I thought. Don’t be put off my “a lot louder” I don’t mean it was very loud but it does make a bit of noise, still no where near loud enough to annoy you. The design is okay, I found a few scratches on them both (I bought 2). Assembly was easy as pie, who needs a manual these days. The amount of air you get from it satisfied me 8/10
