------------------------------Summary:+ Powerful, effective at keeping summer heat at bay.+ Good construction quality; doesn't feel like it'll fall to pieces.+Comes flat-packed in pieces and requires less than 10 mins to put together (screwdriver required).- Bulky: The fan is a bit too big to fit on a one-man desk- Loud - especially at higher settings.------------------------------Given how how this summer's shaping up to be, I was pleased and excited when I got the opportunity to try this fan. What's the verdict? Whilst I wouldn't say that the DF1610 is either portable or suitable for placement on any but the largest of desks, it is a good fan.The first thing I noticed when opening its packaging was the bulk of the unit - it really is a massive fan.In fact, I'd say that if you're thinking of getting one yourself you should go and measure 16" on a tape measure - see if you've got space on your desk to even accommodate this beast. The second thing I noticed was that the fan required some assembly - to be expected, given its size. This assembly was fairly trivial even for someone as mal-coordinated as me, but required a screwdriver. When the fan was up and built, and a suitable space on my desk cleared (no mean feat - it really is big!), I set it to work. It worked very well, producing an EXTREMELY strong breeze and keeping both myself and the surrounding area nice and cool. However, it is loud! Even on the lowest settings, it produces far more than a slight background noise, so be warned - if this will put you off, you may be best off looking at another product. However, if you have the space to accomodate it, and you don't mind the fan whirring in the background, I guarantee this will keep you cool on these hot summer days we seem to be having! One last thing: In the description you'll see that at one point it states that the box contains '1 x Igenix DF1610 12" Desk Fan.'It doesn't! The rest of the manufacturer's description is correct - this fan is (as stated elsewhere) 16" in diameter, not 12"

Every home needs a fan – at least on those occasional sweltering summer days (and nights), or for alternate uses like, I don’t know, drying paint, testing model sailing boats or making mobiles flutter in the wind.Is this the one? You do need a screwdriver (not supplied) to assemble it, which is a matter of attaching the base, securing the rear guard metal web with a plastic locknut, securing the fan blade with another plastic nut, and then attaching the front guard with a tiny screw. Of these the only slightly tricky bit was the last; there are hinged metal clips which have to be positioned to attach the guards together, and in our case one of the clips needed a little judicious bending with a flat blade screwdriver before it would fit properly. There is a useless wire carry handle on the rear guard; in practice you will move the fan by grasping the pillar attached to the base. It is nice and lightweight though.Construction quality I would describe as fair; the assembled fan is stable but a bit plasticky and wobbly, and the front badge with the brand name is not quite straight, but no big deal. The fan is 16” (about 40cm) in diameter and around 22” (56cm) high when assembled; it is described as a desk fan, but you need a pretty big desk and I found it worked better on a separate table. It does move plenty of air though, and it is reasonably quiet (given that all fans are somewhat noisy). There are three speeds, and the noise increases on the faster speeds as you would expect. You can tilt the fan to your taste, and there is a control which lets you have the fan do that hypnotic oscillating thing or remain fixed, as you prefer. In hot weather these things really do help, and I would rather have a large one like this, that makes a decent breeze, than something smaller, provided you have the space.

This is a self-assembly item. It takes a bit of time to put it together because there are one or two fiddly parts. If you have put a fan together before you will know that the cage that houses the blades is fixed together with clips and a tiny little screw at the base of that cage. I dropped part of that because it was so tiny and spent 10 minutes searching for it. However, I did manage to put it together by myself as it's fairly easy, but it does come with assembly instructions and a 2-year guarantee. It is a large 16" fan and for the most part it works pretty quietly. It has 3 speed settings. However, on the second day of use when I had it in the movement mode, the fan developed a bit of a squeak as it turned. Before that I was totally happy with it and it is much quieter than my old fan that sounded like a light aircraft. I could still hear the TV just fine when it was in operation. If I can locate that little squeaking noise then perhaps I will come back and give it five stars. I liked how far the fan went around when it was in rotation mode as many only do a half-hearted turn.

Pros:- shifts a decent amount of air even at the lowest speed setting.- does what an oscillating fan is supposed to do at a very reasonable price. It circulates air to cool you down and it oscillates. For those expecting it to cool down the air around you, it’s not going to. You need an air conditioning unit for that- decent size for most rooms. I definitely notice a difference in the apparent effect compared to a similar but smaller 12 inch fan.- super easy to put together. There’s a couple of small screws and nuts in a separate bag. I assume one of the screws are to secure the front and back grilles together (Look on the edges of your front and back grilles to align the small screw hole)the other is a spare.- it’s not loud at all. It does emit a slight hum but by no means is it bad enough to keep me from sleepingCons:- it looks a little cheap but for the price that’s to be expected. At the end of the day, it’s cheap and cheerful, does it’s intended job well and kept me cool on hot summer days. I’d recommend this fan.

This fan arrived just in the nick of time - ready for a whopping heat wave! It is a lot bigger than I expected - it's marketed as a desk fan but there's no way it would fit on my desk, we now use it in the lounge, the oscillating function is very handy to make sure no one hogs the lovely cool air and everyone gets a turn! It is very powerful, and very quiet so we no longer have to turn up the telly like we used to with our old one! It was quite easy to put together, but the guard was a bit fiddly, and some of the bits that clip it into place were too bent to use, but we have no young children in the house so aren't too worried about it being a bit wobbly. Overall a great fan, very powerful for it's size and so quiet you can barely tell it's on. I have a feeling we'll be getting a lot of use out of it this summer!

I am very pleased with this 16inch desk fan, my standard fan was getting on my nerves moving it from room to room as the feet kept getting caught on everything when i moved it, this fan i bought from igenix is so much better and easier to move from room to room, in fact it has more power than my old one and gives a powerful cool breeze, it was very easy to put together, at night time i use it on the lower setting so i can have it right next to the bed, even on the lower setting it still keeps this menopausal lady cool, i will be buying this particular fan again to replace my older fans, i would recommend this model over & over again.

Been using this fan for about a month now, and it has been perfect. The noise level is very subtle, in fact I so enjoy a little of sound when I am sleeping so it doesn’t bother me at all. Overall a great product!UPDATE:I have accidentally dropped this from my bed and although it had dents, it's still working haha! the blades do slow down when I forcefully turn the fan. However I wouldn't recommend doing that with the fan. Other than that, fan still works perfectly

Got this for my son , he is a home worker, and he gets overheated sometimes. The fan isn't a Dyson !It looks cheap, it feels cheap, and the plus is it is cheap! To buy!If you want the best buy a Dyson fan, ridiculously priced, but you know you've bought a serious piece of kit. This fan for the price is excellent .Also to add if we want it a desk fan , you need a big desk, it's a monster

Bought for my daughter during this summer as it was very hot and ventilation in her room isn’t great. Very effective, kept her room nice and cool. She likes the different settings, and it’s quiet enough to have on while working or even sleeping. Replaced an older one we’d paid quite a lot for and the quality of this one is so much better, absolute bargain and now I want one.

This is quite an effective fan from a brand I've never heard of. There are 3 settings, the highest is quite powerful and is ideal for a work desk or small room. It's quite quiet when being operated. It does look and feel a bit cheap though.... I'd suggest buying one of the stainless steel type fans that are readily available on Amazon for around the same price

So far no problems , I had my last Fan for 18 years .(until I was writing this I hadn't realised it was that old) if this one lasts have as long I will be happy, I have my fan on all night so any fan I get has to give a good blast of cool air and be on all night, this gives plenty of cold air and while you can hear it,it's not too loud to keep you awake

Very good cooling fan, nice and light but powerful and very quiet. However there were no instructions in the box at all which was a bit tricky at first. Also the lead is very short, but fortunately we have used this fan near a power point. Would suggest a longer lead in future. Overall great value for money.

Really quiet fan that puts out a large airflow. It has made the hot summer nights easier to sleep through in comfort. If you have room for the larger footprint that a 16inch fan takes up, this is a sensible buy. I bought the wall mounted version (DF1656) as well. They use the same fan head assembly.

29.7.2018

Quite standard design. Quiet and good blow! 2 comments. Requires self assembly and particularly fiddly small nut and bolt securing the protective cage. Second poorly designed or maintained website which does not allow you to register warranty - I have emailed Igenix but no response so far

6.6.2020

I had the bigger floor version and it lasted for years, that packed up and decided to give the desk one a try, it was better than I ever remember the floor version being. I saw reviews saying it doesn’t tilt, nonsense I got it tilted straight away
