I bought this device to help recover data from my daughters external but dead 1tb USB drive. This was so successful that I have since recovered data from a plethora of different drives from other legacy pc's and 2.5 inch laptop drives using the additional adapter which I also purchased at the same time.As an experienced IT practitioner, I can confirm that the dock is an invaluable piece of equipment which is easy to use and which only could be improved with the inclusion of a bundled data recovery/management software. My only regret is tht I did not purchae one of the other StarTech Docking stations with more slots to host multiple 3.5 drives as external storage.I am now considering giving

I've now had two of these, both of which have given good service in different situations and continue to work well. Disks seem to be recognised quickly and presented as if they were normal USB disks, seem to stay in place well during use, and are easy to remove once jobs are complete. The unit itself feels light but well built, and comes with connectors which again seemed light but well made. I liked the colour-changing light which indicates status - powered on, i/o, etc.If I was to make one criticism it would be that sometimes it's not entirely clear whether the disk is properly inserted as far as the feel of plugging it in is concerned. Learning to be fairly positive about this solved the problem,

I got this, along with a Startech 2 port multiplier PCI Express eSata controller card for my Dell XPS desktop computer. I'd previusly used a single bay Sata dock via the built-in eSata port. This was never entirely satisfactory and usually knocked out the computer sound when I started a drive up, necessitating a reboot after I'd stopped using the drive. A good googling revealed that this is (another) Dell quirk and evidently the system expects to be set up in RAID configuration for the eSata port to work properly. The Startech combination entirely solved these problems and I can use the old single bay dock as well as the Startech 4 bay, using both ports on the controller card.

This is a high quality product which does exactly what it says on the tin. It's very easy to use and ergonomic - just plug it in, insert the drive and switch it on. Access to the drive is fast and reliable. When finished, unmount the drive on the PC, turn it off and physically remove the drive using the handy eject lever.The only minor criticism is with the aesthetics - they have used very shiny plastic on the top, including the drive flap, and this is getting scratched ater only a handful of drive insertions. A more conventional textured finish would be better here.

Works a treat on Windows 7 and Ubuntu Linux.Used Linux DD to copy whole of partitioned 250GB drive to 500GB(3.5") drive and then non-destructively adjusted partition sizes to use theextra space. Then replaced the internal drive and I'm using it totype this in Windows 7.On USB3 port performance indistinguishable from internal drive.Comes with multi-country 12V 2 Amp adapter - you need this -USB just can't provide enough power for large drives.

Along with the Startech.com SATA to 2.5 inch or 3.5 inch IDE Hard Drive Adapter this docking station has finally enabled me to keep the side panels on my PC, I have a lot of old drives that I use as cheap backups and this enables me to access them easily. I still have an older USB 2 SATA only unit that still works fine but the extra speed of USB 3 helps me copy files a bit quicker (on average about twice as fast)

After my old pc gave up on me, i wanted to keep my hard drive and then add the folder n files on there to my new pc. This docking station which i first saw working on a you tube video made my mind up on which one to buy. Its so simple plug in and click the HDD into the slot, and your away, ready to transfers files just as quick as 123. Well worth the money.

It certainly isn't cheap, but when you have 8 terabytes of video/audio material in your collection, using a hub like this is certainly the most economic way to go. Only one slightly negative comment, before I fitted thin felt pads to the rear of the inside of the holder the disc drives would vibrate making a noise, but this was cured by the thin pads.

What more can I say? The way I work involves the use of a lot of hard drives with data on them - this four-port dock was just what I needed.It has fans that are quiet that help cool the drives, and I love having individual power buttons for each port.Does the job - a little expensive (hence the four stars), but just what I needed.

I only use this sata HDD as needed, but i have found it to be a reliable piece of equipment and i recommend it to any one who needs this type of external drive. You can get cheaper but probably not as good or reliable. Quickly delivered too.

I've been using for the last few days and works great, also Im quite happy because it had in the box an adaptor for american use. I was worry about it for a future trip and now i know that I have not to look for an adaptor

Excellent bit of kit, I can now re-use 3 SATA and one IDE HDD, transfer is great and Windows 7 sees it no bother. Great for backups or storing little used data - of which I have a lot

Good quality docking station, essential e solid.UK, EU, USA, power adapter are present in confection.I connected to an usb 3.0 controller and I saw a troughtput of 100MB/s

The drive readder is quite good and quick, but it is a bit big and if you just need it for sata drives its all it can read.Its a cool tool to use nice and simple :)

Bought this to recover some data from a laptop with a failed display. Plugged in the laptop hard disk and it was available for reading straight away without problem.
