Firstly let me talk about the actual product as this is the main part of the purchase. This does exactly what is says on the tin - its a HDD enclosure which converts the internal HDD to an external HDD. Its sturdy and doesn't feel like it will fall apart. However the surface does scratch very easily - so just be careful. It would recommend this product to anyone who wanted to covert an internal HDD to external. However I wouldn't recommend AMAZON PRIME. This service is rubbish. This was the first time I received the order late, however at the time of writing (about a month later) another parcel that was totally different has also been delayed. Which again is probably a dispatch delay but Amazon doesn't want to admit it.Instead they make you talk to 3 different people which is a total waste of time. They then decide to let you email them In which they decide to give you a £5 gift voucher. However the catch is it can only be used on items sold by Amazon and not third parties (Even though I brought the item from a third party - but was fulfilled by Amazon). I'm absolutely appalled by the service provided by Amazon. In conclusion the product is fantastic, however the service is rubbish.

I bought three of these to hold the explanted HDD from laptops when doing SSD upgrades (also to make the transfer easier). There are two varieties and I got the very slightly cheaper ones with plastic bodies and an aluminium plate on one side not the whole aluminium versions and the quality is pretty good. They have all reliably transferred terabyte quantities of data without a hitch. The only caveat is that the SATA to USB bridge in the cases I have appears to be limited to 250Mbits/sec which is obviously more than enough for an external hdd (and is noticeably faster than USB 2) but is saturated by an SSD (that will give 500Mbits/sec on an internal SATA3 connection). In short - great for a spinning drive,go for a better case if you've got a USB 3 interface and an SSD!

As a PC tech I have used many USB devices . I used the TeckNet to replace a white icybox housing which had developed a fault with the smarts . I had the teckNet up and running straight out of the box in 30 seconds with a 320GB HDD. The device requires NO expert knowledge whatsoever to assemble . I would give this 5 stars if the USB cable fitted just a little bit further home into the device but maybe I am being too picky here as it is not lose or wobbly its just that it sticks out from the housing about 2 mm , would rather the black plastic of the cable was touching the housing . Overall its a decent nice looking unit and very fast with USB3 .Tip : separate the cable from unit when carryingaround to prevent undue pressure at said connection above .

I purchased this enclosure to add extra external storage to my MacBook Pro. The device is easy to set up and use; no screws required. The two 2.5" drives I've tried fit snugly and when assembled the unit is reasonably sturdy. It gets quite warm to the touch when the disk is being hammered, but is cool when idling. The unit works fine with Windows 7 and OSX Yosemite on a MacBook Pro running USB3 and also works fine plugged into my 7 year old laptop PCs USB2 port.Previous external drives have required a supplemental power supply (or 2 USB cables) for power and data; this works fine with just the one.

I purchased this enclosure to house the otherwise redundant hard drive that I removed from my MacBook after installing a SSD to make my computer faster. I wanted to use the old hard drive as an external disk, and this allowed me to do this cheaply. The hard drive was easy to insert into the enclosure (it took a matter of seconds) and worked instantly. It also has an LED status light to show you when the hard drive is connected and 'busy'. All in all a good product for the price, which works well for its function, even if it's not the most beautiful thing ever designed.

It is a fine product terms of manufacture etc. But it does not seem to work with Windows 10. I am not sure if it is the enclosure, Windows 10, the motherboard I am plugging it into, or some combination of these factors. My computer is USB 2.0. So I presently use it as a backup HDD for my Win7 Laptop where it works just fin with a 2.5" SATA SSD. In fairness the seller's product description does not list Win 10 as a supported OS. So I uprated this from 3 to 4 star after being contacted by the seller (top marks for follow-up) who pointed this out.

TeckNet® 2.5 inch USB 3.0 Hard Drive Disk HDD External Enclosure / Case for 9.5mm 7mm 2.5" SATA HDD and SSD, Tool-free HDD InstallationI bought this to use with a 7mm Sandisk SSD. The drive fits perfectly and held securely with the additional spacing foam insert. The USB 3 interface works perfectly with this high performance drive to use as additional extra multi-media storage for my Dell i7 laptop. It is lightweight and doesn't get hot like the metal one I was previously using, I can highly recommend this product on performance and price.

I use this for a Seagate SATA 1TB HD which I had replaced with an SSD in my laptop. Perfect plug and play and displays in Windows Explorer seamlessly. One slight problem it won't connect via my powered USB hub whereas two portable HDs (Samsung and WD) do. However as I use it and the HD for long term storage and backup rather than day to day it is a small issue for me. Just something to be aware of if you plan to use it via a USB hub. For the money a steal and has made a virtually valueless HD a perfect storage tool.

Great little HDD enclosure. I've been using this case for over 2 years and it never let me down. Write and read speeds is about 50 MB/s but i mostly use low speed hard drives, so that's not an indication of its real speed limit. I can tell it is very reliable because i use it every day for many hours since it is always connected to my PC in order to perform incremental backups every 2 hours.I occasionally use it to Install operating systems on other PCs, it never failed me.

After my laptop breaking a couple of years ago, I decided to build a new PC. I took the HDD from that laptop as well as new SSD and used them in my new PC. Since then I have upgraded the HDD to a new 7200 RPM WD one and now the old laptop one sits in this external hard drive enclosure. It is an incredible way to recycle an old hard drive and now I can have 600GB on the go. This is a great price and allows you to recycle an old drive.

I needed to upgrade the HD on my laptop to a larger size but didn't want to just throw out a perfectly useable HD so bought one of these natty little boxes. HD fits easily, the cover is a snug fit which is good and it all works. I'd give it 5 stars if it had a 'standard' USB connection on the box - it's got a weird shaped connection, don't know if all these types of boxes do!

It is a handy little case which requires no screw to replace the drive inside, which is a bonus. However, the size of the case is a bit bigger than I like. Can't they make it slightly smaller? The metal housing of the case gives it a premium feel, but it is only for look, it doesn't double as heat sink because the parts contacting the actual hard drive is all plastic.

I purchased this casing for an old laptop hard drive which I had. The item arrived very quickly and I had no difficulty plugging the hard drive into the connected. The case held the drive securely and it worked first time. The Lights show when the item is plugged into the USB port and reading/writing.No complains and will definitely recommend .

21.2.2014

The item arrived earlier than stated. It was easy to install the hard drive in to the enclosure. I wasn't expecting the full speed stated as nearly all data transfer speeds for wireless, hard drives, USB2 and 3 are never achievable. The speed WAS much quicker than USB 2 so I'm not disappointed as I can back up my data far quicker than before.

4.3.2016

Just the job for an old laptop drive that I replaced for an ssd.Copying files to and from the drive is quite fast better than usb 2 speeds. The plastic is a bit flimsy when lid is off but once u put the drive in and put the lid on its solid. The drive fits nice and snug and with the included sponge it give the drive less chance of moving.
