I bought this product after I upgraded my PS3 from a 40GB to a 320GB HDD. Knowing that I wouldn't be able to sell on the old HDD I researched into the field of SATA 2.5 inch enclosures. It seems that the majority of these enclosures fufil the same criteria, they are cheap and function as intended. The pricier options tend to be more aestheitcally pleasing or provide other blinking LED lights. The product is nicely packaged and comes with a case (abeit rather cheap in nature), a mini USB to two USB cable, the enclosure, a disk, a small instruction manual and 3 tiny screws and a small screwdriver. The installation of the SATA HDD into the enclosure is rather difficult. The enclosure is made of two parts, the casing and the front end which connects the drive into the ports. Having no technical knowledge in the field of computers or computer parts this whole procedure was alien to me. Thankfully it is rather easy, despite the less than clear manual. The casing is a very tight fit for the drive and at times I was worried that the drive may be damaged whilst I was installing it. However with a little patience the drive will fit very snuggly into the casing. You will only need two of the screws to fix the enclosure in place, leaving one of the screws as a spare. The instructions were of very little use in terms of formatting the drive. After some searching online I found the correct protcol.Windows XP users1) Plug your new portable HDD into your computer with the supplied USB cable2) The computer will recognise the HDD and go through the motions of installation of a new piece of hardware, until the "your new hardware has been installed sucessfully".3) Access "Computer Management" by right clicking on the "My Computer" icon and selecting "manage". Under "Storage" is an option for "Disk management".4) Clicking on this will show any disks that the computer is currently using and any disks that are attached. The new disk should be of X GB depending upon the size of the SATA HDD. Right click the drive and choose "Format". NTFS is the only selectable option if the drive is too large. Fear not as it is relatively simple to change it to FAT32. Make sure you are formatting your external disk and not the "(system)" disk.5) If you are planning on using the portable drive for your computer/laptop then you will not need to format it to FAT32. If like me you will want to connect it to the PS3, then you will have to format it into FAT32 (which the PS3 recognises, unlike NTFS). Be warned, the maximum size of a single file for FAT32 storage devices is 4GB.6) I downloaded the free "Swissknife" program, which can format your portable HDD to FAT32 in a matter of seconds. The enclosure is surprisingly smart and sleek given the price. It is made from plastic and aluminium combo and is black in colour. As of yet I have had no problems with its functioning on my PS3 or my laptop, although the transfer rates seem to be slower than that of my iPod and other passport devices (WD portable drives). There is a red LED to inform you that the device is plugged in, and there appears to be a separate power socket (although no cable is supplied, and as of yet I have not needed another power source bar the USB cable). Overall I recommend this if you are looking for a cheap way to turn your old PS3 hard drive into a rather useful portable one.

The bottom line: It does what it said it would and what I wanted it to do.Opened up neat packaging to find a neat little box with all the information about the enclosure on it. Opened up the box and found things to be beyond my expectations- there was the enclosure, a packet of screws as well as a miniature screwdriver, two cables- one mini-USB to USB (power and data) & another DC to USB plug for power, a booklet, a driver cd (though it was unnecessary as my pc recognised my hard drive as did my TV) and finally, perhaps the only disappointing bit- a cheap filmsy useless looking case. The enclosure itself is of a sort of metallic build and it feels very solid.I thought it could have held my hard drive a bit more snugly but it wasn't a big issue. For the price its an absolute bargain and I have absolutely no regrets. If you want something premium with an amazing premium case and some extraneous functionality you'll never even use then I suggest you look elsewhere. When you put into perspective what you get and what you pay, this is at the very least a definite 4- there is no point in carrying unrealistic expectations if you're not willing to shell out the coin for the swiss army hard drive enclosure you always wanted.

This is the 2nd of these enclosures I've acquired and I'm just as pleased with this one as I was with the first. The kit is complete - you get everything you need including 2 USB leads, mounting screws and even a screwdriver! One USB lead is for data abnd the other is for powering things either from a external PSU or a spare USB port. Actually, I've found the drive works reliably without using the power connection but this would depend on the hard drive you put in the enclosure - more recent drives seem less demanding in power supply terms than older ones.If you've got a otherwise spare SATA drive (or can acquire one cheaply) then this is a great way to create a very neat-looking, slimline, external USB 2.0 drive for backup etc on the cheap. Assembly is straightforward - its just a bit fiddly to get the screws in, but with a litle care and patience, even the ham-fisted like myself won't have too much difficulty. I've no complaints at all - just a request that Iomax consider producing a USB3.0 version at some point. I will definitely buy one if they do.

Utilising this enclosure is simple - don't really need any instructions for this item. Simply connect your 2.5" SATA disc to the connector, push into the aluminium casing and insert the two screws with the supplied screw driver.I've just done this with a new Samsung M7 640GB 2.5 inch SATA II 8MB Cache, 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive OEM - Sony Playstation PS3 Compatible and I am still formatting after about 6 hours. It's important that the enclosure can cool itself, and certaily during the formatting process the case is staying at a constant 'warm to the touch', but no more, temperature.I can't hear anything from the enclosure, but that's more to do with the drive than the box.Using this enclosure with a high-end drive makes for a VALUE external disc drive.I may well end up buying many more of these boxes over the next few years.

This i an excellent little enclosure. The standard of package contents is excellent, you even get a tiny screwdriver & screws to put the case together when you've inserted your drive.I originally bought this to replace the case on a Toshiba Stainless Steel 1TB 2.5" external. The Tosh's case was so poor it literally fell apart within 2 days of me receiving it. Unfortunately the drive in the Tosh was the large profile, 12.5mm, as opposed to the 'normal' laptop drive of 9.5mm so it didn't fit this case. I subsequently bought the new samsung 1TB laptop drive to replace the terrible toshiba, and that 9.5mm drive fit the case perfectly. I spent a while searching for an enclosure that matches the Macbook Air's aluminium (hence the toshiba steel drive)and this case looks like Apple produced it as a MBA companion. Great case. Great price!

Having tried another enclosure that neither worked and had the drive rattling around in it, I was somewhat sceptical about what this offering would bring.I needn't have worried. The drive fits like a glove. It didn't need the additionally supplied USB power cable, so thankfully will work from the one cable. Also comes with a nice sleeve to protect it.All in all it does exactly what is says on the proverbial tin.If I had to be absolutely picky then I would say that you need good eyesight and a steady had to insert the screws (screwdriver included in the box), the glossy finish does mean that fingerprints will be all over it and lastly,I would have liked to have seen some rubber feet to give additional protection (which can easily be added by a pound purchase from your local pound style store).Overall, am very happy.

Bought this to recover data from a broken laptop and did the job perfectly. Even for an IT novice like myself - it was easy to connect my SATA drive and then plug it in to my new laptop. It comes with a pouch, screws and screwdriver as well as CD.One note - - I totally forgot about using the CD as I already had data on my drive and did not want to format it. I just used it as a typical Hard drive and copied data over.Ordered in on a Friday morning and - using the default delivery option - it arrived the next morning.Much cheaper than other other recovery / backup prices and had it done in a day from ordering the product = very pleased!

I purchased this to grab all the files etc on the hard drive of my laptop that had a broken power socket. Having been quoted £90 to have this fixed, the caddy option was worth a try. The parcel came very quickly and within three minutes of opening, I had the caddy assembled and running. Yes, the screws are tiny and fiddly, but I used the white packaging as a tray and the screwdriver that came with it is magnetic. I did not need the additional cable as a power supply, nor the software disc. I am very pleased with this, I now have a spare external hdd that works brilliantly. The casing seems quite tough and there is a cover too!

I am very happy with this product after buying it to keep my old PS3 hard drive in. It is very stylish and the black metal that almost completely surrounds it keeps the enclosure cool. It is very easy to use. It comes with tiny screws and a screwdriver to keep your hard drive in place. I did not need the extra power lead to use my hard drive as the first one powered it fine. You will need to format your old PS3 HDD however. If you want to use the HDD with your PS3 as an external drive then format in FAT32, if not use NTFS, as it's better for use with PCs as you can hold files larger than 4GB.Well worth the price.

Considering the item comes with a suitable screwdriver, spare screw, usb and additional power cable (if required) and a carrying case along with the item it's self, it is good value for money. The case is as basic as it can be, a sata connector and an aluminium case. Data transfer is fast and consistent and works off of one usb cable (the secondary power cable was unnecessary on my macs). The screws are very small and fiddly but the screwdriver is magnetic. The case is very flimsy, the connector not a tight fit and the drive can sometimes get stuck inside if you want to remove it as the case is a really tight fit.

Impressive caddy for little money. My laptop died recently and this product hasallowed me to recover all my hard disk dataquickly and easily. It even comes with a screw driverto aid fitting. The quality of the enclosure is finefor so little money, and it worked with an oldwindows 2000 laptop when connected withthe supplied USB cable perfectly.Excellent customer service - when I orderedthe wrong caddy (SATA instead of IDE) thereplacement arrived in two days.Negatives? The only thing I didn't like was theunpleasant smell from the plastic carry pouch.

Does exactly what it says. 5 minutes after opening the package you have you have your 2.5" drive plugged into an USB port. No additional power is required, it comes with the necessary cable and I have had no problems at all. Delivery was prompt and the price excellent. I bought a second as soon as I had checked out the first. A great way to make those odd 2.5" disks useful again. I have one plugged into my router for all systems in the house to use and the other is used as a removable backup (there is even a little bag to keep it in!).

This USB 2.5 External Hardrive case is very Neat and Small to be kept out of sight. I bought a 500gb drive to occupy the Caddy and it works well. I bought this for use with the PS3 to back-up the Hard drive. At first it wasn't recognised by the PS3 System, not a problem, just go on youtube and find out that PS3 uses Fat32 and the drive was already formatted for use with NTSC. Fine just go to drive utilities on the mac and choose the format option for Fat32...Easy, job done! This now works in harmony with my PS3...Excellent!!!

Purchased this caddy about a month ago.My old laptop had given up the ghost but I wanted to keep the HD.The package comes with the caddy, USB connector, a nifty carry pouch, 3 screws (1 spare), a small screwdriver, and drivers for XP and earlier - so it is complete in every way.Getting the HD in the caddy was simplicity itself. It is so easy no explanation needed. Was able to recover some very valuable files off the old laptop.Have now reformatted the HD and am using it as an external HD.In my opinion worth every penny.

I bought this to retrieve data from the hard drive of our previous laptop - which had 'expired' - before trying to bring it back to life. Swapping the drive was simple enough, although the screws are fiddly, but then in about 30 mins the family's personal files (c.150Gb) were transferred to the new laptop. Although important data had been backed up, it's amazing how much minor stuff you miss when you can't access it. Less than £7 and an hour of time for a service which costs £100+ at a high street outlet. Excellent value.
