OK, but as mentioned by others, it’s disappointing that the mounting screw threads are M3 rather than the standard 6-32.Using the IcyBox to fit a SSD into a HP Microserver Gen8 I found that the supplied M3 screws sit slightly proud of the Microserver disk caddy and foul as you slide it into the enclosure. The countersunk 6-32 screws supplied by HP don’t fit into the M3 threads. The elegant solution is to purchase new countersunk M3 screws. I went the vulgar route and attacked the screw heads with a grinding disk (not while fitted to the electronics). Taking half a millimetre off the heads sorted the clearance issue.Otherwise I like the converter. It works,it’s got a nice heatsink and it feels sturdy enough.

The item was delivered quickly.I purchased this item to work with a 2.5 SSD (Samsung 840 Pro), the drive fitted perfectly as expected, however people who are purchasing this item to install in a PowerMac G5 (Early 2008) or similar please not that you will need to use the screws that come with this chassis as the original G5 screws don't fit the mount. Also you will need to mount the caddy on 2mm washers or something that raises it a couple of millimetres as the drive won't line up with the sockets on the Mac. Other than having to sort out the washers the product is great! The SSD is also easily accessible without having to remove the caddy from the G5 mounts.

Built myself a new data recovery machine with a docking bay for SATA drives and it's 3.5" of course. Rather than looking for another bay for 2.5" drives (or having connection wires poking out the case) I looked for another solution and found this.It is perfect! I'll try to post a photo but basically the lid slides off, the drive slides in to the connector and then the whole thing is the exact size of a 3.5" drive. This then slides perfectly into my 3.5" docking bay and I can carry on working on it without rebooting etc. There is no need to screw the drive in if you are just working on it temporarily.

I bought a 2.5" SSD (HyperX from Kingston) to fit into one of the drive slots on my HP Proliant N54L Microserver. Unfortunately, the 3.5" carrier that is supplied with the drive didn't allow the SATA connector to align properly (the drives fit into carriers in the Microserver). This convertor transforms the 2.5" to the very same form/factor as an actual 3.5" HDD. The enclosure has a built in external SATA connector. Hint: Use the mounting screws that come with the Icybox - the HP ones are too big.Great product, fairly priced.

I bought this to replace my iMac 21" (Late 2011) internal 3.5" drive with a samsung 2.5" SSD. The SSD fits into the box and can be fixed with screws to avoid dropping inside the case while changing position. The product was delivered on time, I didn't realise it was SATA II (3GB/s) though didn't make much difference.I took one star off because the mounting screws from iMac HDD didn't fit this correctly and there were no mounting screws included in the package.

Bought to mount some 2.5in SSDs into the 3.5in caddies used in an HP Microserver N54L, like some other reviewers here. The sockets line up just fine, although the screw holes in the side of the enclosure are too tight for the Microserver's built in screws, so you have to use the screws provided with the enclosure instead. Not a big deal, but it would have been nice (normal 3.5in HDDs fit the microserver's built in screws).

Exactly what I wanted. Pop the 2.5" SATA drive inside and the whole thing becomes a 3.5" SATA drive which slots into my StarTech caddy perfectly. As I only want this for temporary use, I didn't bother screwing the drive in so I had no trouble with screws. If you are going to make industrial strength use of it, this might feel a bit flimsy, but it should be fine for normal use.

I bought this item to house a SSD for a hotswap bay in my PC. I noticed it was half the price of the versions listed for SSDs.It worked perfectly for this purpose and I've had no problems - a bit of bargin as well!Easy to install and no regrets.

Good item well designed but not sure how well it will dissipate heat from the SSD. I left the top cover off to help convection cooling. Fits my SSD well and inserts into the cases 3.5" bay, easy to install with no problems.

21.8.2014

Well designed, easy and secure to fit a disk, and the whole thing fitted neatly into the manufacturer's caddy. I decided to leave off the plastic cover as it seemed its only effect would be to make the disk run hotter.

Perfect for the plug and play SSD/SATA 2.5" storage drives for protection of the drives and and fast changing into the 3.5" docking bay. Also the self contained heat sink is well thought out and does the job well.

Unlike some reviewers had no problems with lack of screws or fitting them. Everything fitted into 3.5" bay without any problem whatsoever. Combined with Crucial M500 SSD has now breathed new life into my desktop.

Simple and a must have when you want to use SSDs + HP Microserver. Very solid and high quality, a little pricy but unlike the others on the web this actually aligns the connector on the back.

fantastic device; provides what is in effect totally unadulterated sata III 6GB/s access - i have two drives in raid 0 giving me read speads up to 950M/s and write speeds over 800 :-)

Brilliant - I put a 2.5 500 GB SSD into an ESXi server with this - no extra drivers required, no hassle or fuss.Exactly what I wanted and I would definitely buy it again/
