I'd like to leave a review of my own (albeit early) impression of the Icybox IB-RD2253-U31 Raid. I hope it will help to balance out some of the more negative reviews about this bit of kit, as my immediate impression is a really good one.Firstly, it's all aluminium and feels very premium, nicely machined, and I would not change a thing. It's also quite small in size, and very easy to take apart to fit the drives. It's fast too! I've got it set up as SINGLE at the moment, and did an ATTO disk benchmark which all looked very impressive speed-wise.Incredibly easy to slot your drives in. For mine, I purchased two new Hitachi HDDs, 1TB each. These are really good, and should complement the Icybox well.I'm just completing the transfer of 30,000+ pictures (90GB), and they've moved over to this device in no time....about 15 mins or so, well into the 70MB/s-110MB/s territory. And that's coming not from internal HDD, but an external USB3 device, so pretty impressive.Very easy to fit the drives, they just slot in and then are fixed by four screws each side. All feels nicely made inside. Took no time at all. Windows 10 recognised it immediately, and DISKMGMT was needed to set up the drives, which took another minute or so. I've set them up as SINGLE, so each drive was duly allocated a new drive letter - in my case, H: and I:. I may switch to RAID, but note that this will require a reformat of both disks and a reset on the device. Now I'm copying my stuff. It's fast! It's also so small, considering two HDDs are inside. So far, on day of arrival, I'm having no issues, and all is just as I would have hoped. Any negative reviews here are clearly the experience of those people, but for me, I'm so glad I paid no attention to anyone else and just went for it. The Hitachi drives are a good investment too: highly reliable usually. Did not go for SSD, as 2x1TB would have been prohibitively expensive. So all in all, about £140 all in.....the unit itself, and 2TB total space (unless you use RAID mode 2).Get one if you are in any doubt. I love it, and I hope my good impressions don't get spoiled by anything to come!~~~~~*UPDATE*This this is amazing. Just timed a large (53 GB) file copy [from the Icy Box TO the Icy Box] , ie: in SINGLE mode, from one drive to the other on the same unit, and it achieved 53GB copy in exactly 06mins 42 seconds, hovering around 128-132MB/s during the copy. This amount of data in that time......well, I think it's pretty good!

The whole unit is metal and appears well put together, once you have the drives in. Screws could have done with being a larger Philips head, to be less of a hassle, up the provided screw driver works well enough.I have this set up in RAID 0 with 2 old laptop Hard Drives for my Xbox One. The performance is noticeably better that the single USB 3.0 disk I had been using. Load times are reduced to the point where I am almost always the first player into a Multiplayer lobby.A good product, but installing drives was slightly more fiddly than it needed too be. Not that I am hoping to change them, as a failure in RAID 0 means RIP for all data.

Exactly what I ordered... however, the suspension of my SSDs is erm... just by the connector, so the chassis is clearly designed for HDDs. That said I'm very happy with it because it has saved me a ton of time AND I can upgrade it easily. The SSDs are fine because the Icybox will not be moved.

Does the job well. Good compact size.
