A reasonable quality dog kibble aimed at larger breed dogs. We have a 4 year old bernese who clearly enjoys this kibble. He shows no adverse after effects such as loose stools or bad breath, etc, He clears his bowl with gusto. The kibble size is nice and large so as to give him plenty to crunch on, which helps keep his teeth clean. So no complaints from him. As with most quality kibbles aimed at larger breeds the Purina Pro Plan contain many of the minerals that help maintain good joint mobility, particularly important for older adults. There's the usual maize and other binding and bulking out ingredients, as well as dehydrated poultry fish additives. The real salmon content comes in at around 16%.Not the highest for a dog food in this price bracket by any stretch, but combined with the other additives is not criminally low by any means either. All in all I'd rate this as a quite good food. Not the best but not the worse within this price bracket. Whether it will help with sensitive skin issues or not is probably down to the cause and type of sensitivity your dog suffers from. A case of try it and see I think. Our Bernese tends to scratch more during his major molting seasons (around spring and autumn) so we'll have to wait until then to see if it has any effect. As always the larger 14 kg bag works out far more economical than buying smaller bags and Amazon are selling at a good discount as I write this. So if your dog likes it and its in your price range its probably well worth a try skin issues or not.

The Purina range of dried dog kibble has been a long-term favourite of our two Springers. Although Springers are not a 'large, robust' breed, our older dog in particular does suffer from itchy skin from time to time, something that older spayed female dogs in particular are prone to.Therefore I was really pleased to be offered this salmon based food. It's formulated without wheat gluten and also contains a relatively high percentage of rice, which is something that she tolerates really well. The cereal content in this is maize rather than wheat. She enjoys sweetcorn too, and whilst the maize is obviously highly processed,it's good to know that the cereal here is something that is well tolerated. The dogs have tried a lot of the Purina range in recent years and there isn't a single one that they haven't enjoyed.Neither is particularly fussy but this has gone down really well at the first meal time. We've mixed it 50/50 with the usual kibble, but from previious experience they won't take long to adjust to it. The Purina also contains chicory, which is believed to aid canine digestion.Whilst it's early days regarding commenting on the effects of the salmon and fish oils on our girl's skin and coat, it's reassuring to know that they are being fed a good quality food that they enjoy.

My golden retriever has had allergy problems that used to result in him scratching himself raw since he was a puppy. To cut a long story short (skipping past many trips to the vets for tests) he eventually ended up on Trophy Premium Hypo-Allergenic, which is delivered directly from the company itself. It has served us well for many years now, so trying this alternative was a risk.Fortunately, in all aspects the outcome has been a happy one. First and foremost, there has been no scratching. Additionally, every kibble has been thoroughly enjoyed. The kibble is larger than normal but this is not a problem for my dog.At the time of writing, the subscribe & save price is £44.74. Trophy's equivalent 14kg bag is £44,so there's not much to choose between the two, but both get five stars from my dog. Trophy does offer a personal touch with its delivery teams, but if you're buying from Amazon, then this came in an extra bag (not box) safe and undamaged via Amazon Logistics. It's great value, top quality dog food that lasts a month (and a bit) and could make your four-legged friend happy in more ways than one.

My Chocolate Lab is 26kg and at the bottom of the size chart. What I like about this dog food is the size of the kibble. It help to slow her down eating it, instead of hovering it up as she does with other dry dog food. I would be carful with the amount chart. I am really carful in how much she eats as its very easy for her to put wight on. I actually weigh out her food every day so I know that I am not over feeding her. With the amount of food I also take in to consideration how much exercise she has and also any other treats she gets. I had no problem changing her food with out an upset stomach. I do always make sure she has fresh water as dry food can make them thirsty.I also add boiling water to her dried food to make a gravy, then cool it down with cold. This way I know she is getting liquid and she won't feel stuffed with a stomach of dry kibble. The kibble has no food colouring in it and with the salmon I know that her coat and skin is kept in great condition.

As always with any new dietary regime, it is impossible to know from the outset if this works as it claims to. However, once my dog has eaten his way through this large bag of food, I will update the review.I do not have a dog as big as the Saint Bernard shown on the pack, but I do have a dog with skin problems, a Shar-Pei. His life has been plagued with skin irritations, allergies and infections, as well as loss of fur. This mix of salmon and rice as well as other ingredients does appeal to me as an owner. Previous trials with the rather expensive salmon oil additives produced good results, with a sleeker coat, and a reduction in scratching. This dry food is presented in nice large kibbles, easy too eat, and not too hard either. The dog took to it immediately, mixed as usual with some meat. He finished the whole bowl, and didn't leave a scrap. This bodes well, and I can already feel myself eventually recommending it to owners with dogs who have similar problems.

I'm sure this is great food given the mixture of fish, soy etc., but boy! it's made one of my dogs reek to high heaven.Over the years we've learned that one of the dogs has a sensitive stomach and certain foods have a negative gasious maximous effect. Unfortunately, this food has made him most unfriendly! We don't see more or slippery stools but the outpouring of noxious gas has us running for the hils. The other dog is fine...his stomach is bomb proof.I very much like the ease of opening bags from Purina, very easy and resealable and the size of the food pellets are a good mid size, about the size of a 20p. Hard and crunchy, good for the pooches.Other than this we'd be very happy feeding the hounds this food if in not for the affect it's having on one of them.In summary, before buying the 14kg bag I'd suggest investing in a small quantity to establish if it has any affect on your pooch.

The proof of dog food is in the eating, and this Purina Pro Plan Kibbles has been eagerly consumed by my two dogs. Although the food is aimed at large dog breeds, I have a medium large Border Collie, and a Jack Russell / Lakeland Terrier Cross, a small medium, and the food - whether on its own or mixed with meat / fish - has gone down well. The smaller dog does appear to suffer from bouts of excema, and the gluten-free make up of these biscuits seems to be making a noticeable difference. The fish oils also help keep the Border's coat in particular looking glossy and healthy. The 16% Salmon content is reasonable, and the chicory helps keep the flatulence at bay (for the dogs, not me).Good digestion has been maintained, too. Good quality dog food from an established and trusted brand, to put it simply.

Improved digestionOur dog absolutely loves these kibbles, they are three times larger than his usual food.I have noticed that his digestion has definitely improved as he no longer suffers with obnoxious flatulence and his stools are also well formed and easy for him to pass. I find this surprising as neither his usual food nor the Purina has wheat gluten, however Purina use soya beans which a new addition to his diet but not causing a problem. So a healthier digestion could mean an improvement in his skin condition but it’s too soon to tell. I will do another review at the end of the month to report if there has been any change there too.The improvement I seen already mean that I will buy this food for him in future as it also has a 26% protein content,5% higher than his previous food.

Started the old boy off on this last night amd to be expected, it was wolfed down with gusto! This 'Large Robust Adult' feed from the Purina Pro Plan stable is- as you would expect- scientifically formulated to provide the correct balance of vitimins, minerals and calories for the dog it is developed for.In this case, the feed is developed for large active dogs who may suffer from allergies and itchy skin. This feed is wheat gluten free and has a high rice content. Containing salmon and fish oils designed to allieviate troublesome skin conditions, this Purina feed is expensive at £49 for a 14kg bag but if your dog has such a condition then it will certainly be worth it.

I was hoping that this would be the cure for Ruby the Great Dane's constant scratching that has me scratching in sympathy. She doesn't have fleas but she does have short downy hair which is constantly shedding. Unfortunately she wasn't too keen on the stuff and would turn her nose up at it. I suspect that she's too used to dinner leftovers and, as we all know, they can be very tasty indeed. Unfortunately this meant I could not test it properly but had to donate it to the Dogs Trust who were very happy to accept it. On that basis I cannot mark it down because of one spoiled Great Dane. On a practical note the resealable packaging was useful.

I got this for a dog who has had a tendency to scratch. Trips to the vet showed that he was prone to occasional excema. Before feeding my dog I asked the vet's advice on this product, and he seemed sceptical as far as helping the dog's occasional itchy patch but agreed it wouldn't do him any harm "so have a go".I fed my dog and he absolutely loved it! Indeed, he was so enthusiastic that I'd have kept buying it whether it was good for him or not. It's probably too soon to tell if it's made any difference to Jack's itch - so far it's still there, but I'll post an update if the product seems to work.

Well I do not know if I love it, but the dog certainly seems to enjoy it. it is a nice big dag with the food in large kibbles. just the thing for an American Bulldog. We alternate it with another flavour of the same variety. The spoiled pooch was a little suspicious at the start, but he finally relented and now enjoys his Purina salmon. He is not a particularly robust dog, but he does walk miles every day so I suppose it amount to the same thing, and his skin seems to be in good condition in spite of his age. So I will continue to use Purina. Not all dried foods are good, but this one certainly is.

I do not have a large dog, I have 2 Jack Russells who literally inhale their food, so I thought that this food being aimed at large dogs would be good as the size of the kibble will be larger and thus harder to eat - it is and it does slow them down so they have to chew now.One of my dogs suffers from skin sensitivity, so I always use purina pro plan as it seems to be a much better quality food that does not irritate the skin. With the added advantage of fish oils, this is good for skin and coat so I think all in all this could be the perfect food for my little dog!

17.8.2016

This is the third different type of Purina that I've tried out and, as before, I have to give it five stars. Why? As before, the dog rushed to the bag even as it was being opened. I think it has a magic ingredient in it that Fido can't resist! :-) This must be very tasty to dogs is all I can say. The bag is large and provides sufficient for several weeks feed, making it very good value. The "Optiderma" additive is veterinary approved and the product is made by Nestle to help dogs with sensitive skins. Highly recommended.

actually having a dog which is near allergic to everything i feed him he has tollerated this one fairly well without the scratchy ears and tummy so I would recommend you try this one as we have gone through many that claim to be hypoallergenic and have set my dog off in minutes. a nice large kibble and it doesnt have that nasty aroma of long left fish that fills the kitchen for hours after use. A nic3e big bag which is good value when you have a large dog.
