I wanted lightweight, waterproof, and affordable (it was on sale when I bought it). This jacket met those requirements and has exceeded my expectations. I knew I wanted an all purpose jacket. I work in NYC, and have a 15 minute walk each day from the train station. I also enjoy camping, backpacking, kayaking, and hiking, so I wanted something I could wear to work, on the weekend, or when I'm on the trail. I have only had positive experience with Outdoor Research products, so the Helium II ended up on my short list. I ended up getting the Pewter one which has zippers that fall somewhere between electric green and highlighter yellow.Pros:- Incredibly lightweight. You forget you're wearing it sometimes.- Water wicks right off of it. Your upper torso will stay dry.- Zippers are seam sealed.- Hood is adjustable.- Feels like it has a bit of a slim fit to it, overall a sharp looking jacket. Less likely to bunch or ride up while wearing a pack because of that.- Fits true to size. I'm 5'11 and 177 lbs. I typically wear a medium and both sleeve and base length were good.- Small pocket above the chest is good for a phone or wallet when it's raining hard.- Quality materials. It's thin and lightweight with the feel of something far more substantial.Con:- There are no hand pockets. The chest pocket suffices to keep one or two small items safe, but the hand pockets were definitely missed. The only thing keeping it from a 5th star for me. Just easier to use, more convenient access, and it's nice to be able to tuck your hands away while you walk through the pouring rain in midtown.Overall I'm very happy with my choice.Update - 9/2/14 - I have owned this jacket for over a year now. I keep it stuffed in the top of my

It looks like I'm the first reviewer and I have a feeling I know why. This is one expensive rain jacket! Probably the most expensive WP jacket I have ever purchased. But, it's worth every dime! I'm a small guy so I purchased the small size in black and I absolutely love it. It fits perfectly. Is it lightweight? This is the lightest jacket I have ever....EVER owned! It's called Helium for a reason! The quality is impressive as it should be. Perfect for the ultralight backpacker and extremely compactable.I'm impressed with my purchase and would do it again. I've used it a number of times on the trails in the pouring rain and never got wet!.UPDATE: I've had this jacket for a while now and I love it.it is so light!!! I've carried it all over the place for all sorts of trips and never even noticed that it was there due to it's light weight and compactablity. I do notice it when it's pouring the rain and I'm thanking god that I have it. The fit is perfect and allows for an additional layer if need be.Most recently I did an overnight backpacking trip into the Linville Gorge in Western NC. Day one, hot (HOT), full sun. I almost got fried. Day two. Praying for clouds and rain. I forgot the sunblock. Packed up my tent and bag in the morning and took two steps and the rain started! Put on the jacket and spent the next 4 hours hiking through some incredible, flooding downpours. Stayed perfectly dry (chest wise). I couldn't be happier. I should say that the jacket breathes very well.

I had read great things about this jacket but balked at the price.About a year had passed and there were so many times I wished I had some rain protection and finally just bought it.It's keeps me dry (at least my upper half) and it packs small and light enough that i always have it somewhere close by. It also doesn't look ridiculous.- Packed about as small as a balled up T-shirt. Definitely much more neatly though.- It's extremely light when worn.It felt kind of strange at first even.- The hood fits comfortably. The brim extends far enough, a good 2" or more from my forehead.- There are no hand pockets but I don't mind. Asides from adding weight to this super light weight jacket I'm pretty sure your pants have pockets.Unless they're pajamas, but why are you outdoors in your PJs?- There is however a sealed zippered chest pocket as well as the pocket inside the jacket (the one that the jacket also packs itself into).- Not mentioned in this listing's description or video is a drawcord to tighten the bottom of the jacket as well.- It's really breathable. Definitely not like a rubber jacket.- I am honestly not sure what the drawstring on the hood is used for. It doesn't tighten the opening for your face as I had expected but rather it pulls the hood back at the same level as you would wear glasses. It tightens to the point where you could comfortably wear it like a giant durag (Doorag? Dorag? Dewgong gong gong?)

I am not a hardcore athlete and thus not the target audience for this product, but I like to go outside and do about 10 miles a day whenever I can. I live in Florida and we are in the middle of the rainy season and I was annoyed at the fact that I could not go outside every day because of the rain. I don't mind getting a little wet but I don't like being drenched.I ordered this jacket out of desperation and it arrived just in time for Tropical Storm Debbie, so perfect timing to put it on and head out.It is extremely thin and light, but don't be fooled, it works just as advertised. It will keep you dry in a down pour. It is fairly breathable but you will still sweat some because of it,but that is to be expected, it is after all an extra layer that you will be wearing. It has a lot of little nice touches such as a soft brim on the hood that will keep the rain out of your eyes. While I am talking about the hood I should mention that it is bit big so you can put it over a helmet if you are wearing one. But if you are not because you are just running, for example, you can adjust the hood so that it stays on your head.It has two pockets, one outside with a zipper and it sits roughly over your heart, the other pocket uses velcro and it is located inside and to the bottom left.If you are looking for a light breathable jacket that will keep you dry, look no further, this is the perfect item.

This is an outstanding shell.I use it for backpacking and as I've gotten older (and can afford it) I've become more weight/space obsessed than when I was younger. Lots of titanium in my gear now. We'll this is the titanium of outerwear.Super lightSuper packableModerate to good protection from wind (it's very thin so not quite as good as my GoreTex Arctyryx hardshell, but way more packable and light - so each has a role.Seems water-tight so far.Breathability adequate - all waterproof shells seem to have their challenges with this to one extent or another.Hood is adjustable via rear drawstring that does a good job of pulling the hood tight to your head with a single pull.Weatherproofed zippers.DownsidesMaterial is very thin and light (for obvious reasons)so some extra care is warranted around brush, campfires, sharp objects, etc.Others have mentioned lack of hand pockets.Minimal adjustablility of sleeves (elastic at the end, but no hook/loop, drawstring, or other) - fits fine though.I layer this when needed with a NorthFace TKA micro fleece, Mountain Hardwear Ghost Whisperer and have a system that provides protection from cold and wet weather at a absolute minimum of weight and space. Fit is good - I got this in an XL to go over other layers and it's perfect. I typically wear LG but this allows layering but is still not bulky. Love it (and so do my feet).

I got this jacket because sometimes it rains when I'm at the range. Based on various other reviews on the Helium, etc. I thought that I would give this a shot. Recently, I was at an all day outdoor training course. It rained for hours. Standing, sitting, shooting, kneeling, walking in the rain and in the mud, the Helium jacket performed in an outstanding manner. My pant, shoes, socks were soaked. but my t-shirt under my Helium was dry. I am very pleased with it performance. It delivered and for such a light weight jacket I now have complete confidence in it. It has proven itself. The Helium is no puff. It works.I wish that OR would make a longer version with the same material like a rain coat or a car coat.I think it would be great for those hot humid rainy summer day. I could wear this over a suit and tie and it would be really light because it's a Helium or I could use it at the range and keep more of me dry.

Super lightweight and compact for international travel for both rain and wind resistance.Great in a layering system....can take it with you all the time.Only negative is that there is only a single pocket....but then again that's why it's so light and compact.Be aware that the fit is a little narrower profile than standard raingear. That's why it looks so good when traveling. As others have mentioned, you need to be careful to not crease the visor on the hood,so I roll it up into the hood, and purchased a small Sea-to-Summit stuff sack that isjust a little larger than the jacket stuff pocket. I just used it on a month long trip to Europeand it's still in mint condition.

Well, I was looking for the lightest windbreaker that I could find which was actually water repellent (vs water resistant), and this fit the bill.Pros:A. super lightB. works as advertised, cuts the wind and rainC. I like the hood drawstring in the back of the head, that way they're not flapping around in my face when it's really windyD. upper zip pocket for keysE. just *feels* quality, and I even like the color ;)Cons:A. lack of pockets for your hands is noticeable, I almost wish they'd taken the top zip pocket out, and added two non-zip hand pockets, about the same weight with more functionality imo

i really like this jacket and am sure it will be in my kit for years to come. It is small and light enough to keep in my pack all the time as a just in case layer for mountain biking and rock climbing. It is not heavy enough to withstand abrasion on rock but with a bit of care it will hold up well. I wore for several hours in a heavy rain with no leaks and stayed comfortable. I would have preferred that they make the hood removable, but that is a small price to pay for the simplicity and light weight of this jacket.

This very light jacket is superb and well designed. Recommend for light hiking without having a thick jacket that takes up space in the backpack. Finished in a fine silky Pertex nylon fabric with an ergonomic hood that adjusts at the back of the head. A chest pocket and elastic at the waist to tighten. Attention to the size, I am 1.76m and always order XL but for this jacket, I felt better in an XXL. I bought some in blue, yellow, black and wait until Camp Z offers the matching black pants. To recommend !

I bought the jacket mainly for a trekking hike in Sweden, as a jacket which I wear when I just do not have the backpack on the hump. It is absolutely lightweight and easy to store. For carrying heavy backpacks, however, it will definitely not be suitable since too thin. As wind and rain protection for between and for a hike without or with light luggage it is however always suitable. I think you can take the jacket well for running or biking, since it is very light, and absolutely waterproof.

This product has been given excellent reviews elsewhere throughout back packing gear websites. It came down to push or shove whether I buy the helium or the marmot rain shell. Both are excellent products. The marmot shell does have side pockets which would've been an added bonus, wait and peccability led me to buy the outdoor research helium. I have yet to use it on the trail but will post additional reviews on it when winter begins in the Sierras.

Great jacket! I'm 5'10, 170lbs with an athletic build and the medium fits perfect. I've used it on several really long runs (26mi w/6000 ft + vert) in wet conditions and it performed fantastic as expected. If I'm really pushing a sweat in the rain it gets wet on the inside... Honestly how could it not, but it dries out and wicks the moisture away quickly. Easily the best running jacket I've ever purchased.

27.5.2016

Love this. It is breathable, lightweight, blocks the wind. I wear a longsleeve shirt underneath this between mid 30s to mid 60s and I am warm but not too sweaty. Seems very flimsy around the zipper teeth...so I try to be careful when zipping/unzipping. Otherwise, it is a great product. Would be nice to have a pocket around the hips, but not a big deal. I recommend this jacket.

Great jacket!!! I'm backpacking and need something light but strong. This is worth all the money!!! It keeps me dry and also helps eliminate the chill when facing strong winds. My only complaint is that it is kinda hard to back in itself, and it never really fully closes, but that's okay because it becomes compact enough that I can just throw it in my bag.
