First time OR buyer.-14^Celsius with winds 37km/hr gusting to 50km/hr -26^Celsius wind chill.Purchased for aerobic, cold weather winter fat biking in hopes of allowing moisture build up to dissipate through my top layer (Success!). I wore three different base layers topped off with the ferrosi hoody. 1, helly hansen thin performance base layer. 2, Columbia polyester (fleece) jacket. 3, Columbia polyester (fleece) vest. Finally on top of it all the ferrosi hoody.I went out for a 5km ride with a steep long sweat producing climb at 2.5km. Once I returned home I stood in the blazing wind for a good 5 minutes and I was comfortably warm with this set up. Removing the ferrosi I found no moisture accumulation on the front, arms, or arm pit area. There was a slight build up of sweat on the back of the hoody as is to be expected without rear venting. This slight amount of sweat was dry within 20 seconds of removing the hoody. my 3rd layer base layer being the vest had a slight amount of moisture on the back of the jacket, the inside of the vest perfectly dry all around. All other base layers were perfectly dry.I am 5'10", 145 pounds slim build, broad shoulders. Hoody is a medium. Fit was great even with the 3 base layers.Could it be improved upon ? Now I am being picky but the arms could use another 1/2" of length to comfortably use the thumb holes. Hey O.R. !! a back vent or something of the sort to blast out any slight amount moisture intermittently would complete this one. very little to complain about :)

No, this is not a warm jacket in and of itself. It's very thin lightweight material. It a great layering item. For example... I wore it over a t-shirt and sweatshirt while shoveling in 17°F with about 10-15mph winds. I generate a lot of body heat naturally and this stopped the wind from breaking thru. I wound up sweaty by the end of my driveway which is big enough for about 8 vehicles. The hood covers up your neck and head (duh right) and it's the same wind block as the body of the jacket and it fits nicely over a hat. It has the cinch cord to hold it down. It isn't very big to begin with anyhow. The jacket nicely packs into it's own pocket. Since it's very stretchy it doesn't restrict movement.I wear it for a breathable yet wind break layer when running in the cold. I use it for work since I'm outside for my job a lot. So far it's been very durable. My only complaint about it so far it's the stupid thumb holes. They are way too small for using long or at least for my hands. I have some other items with thumb holes that are bigger and very comfy. These not so much. They work to keep the sleeves down if you put another snug fitting layer over this but imo that's all these are good for.I think it's a good jacket worth the money on a sale. I'm not a big fan of sticker prices.

Super great it fits perfectly. Read the reviews on Google and discovered this Ferrosi jacket by Outdoor Research and it was a reasonable price. Wasn't mad keen on the colour choices left red or blue but went for the blue and it's really nice in person. 3 YKK zipper pockets. Can be folded into the left pocket and zipped into a pillow. Has a key clip in the left pocket also. Thumb holes on the sleeves and a drawstring waist band. The hood is nice and big but not overly big so that it's too loose although their is a drawstring on the hood as well as around the bottom. The material is nice and comfortable and has some stretch to it and it feels reasonably warm but not overly warm so that you'll get too hot in it.Overall I think this will be a solid purchase especially the fact that it was reasonably priced for such good quality. I wouldn't mind getting a red one also.

Be warned the picture for "shade" is misleading the item sent says "Color: 1115 shade" on the packet BUT its not 2 tones of shady grey more one shade of a pale greeny blue - also the main zipper pull fastens opposite way compared to all my other jackets - on the plus side I am 6ft 1 1/2 with 44" chest 36" waist the Large size fits perfectly and can also accommodate a heavyweight fleece underneath - I can confirm this item (OR 250094) has the larger chest pocket compared to the latest edition - and has reversed self repair nylon zips throughout with metal pulls.UPDATE: When I try to take a photo of the item with my (old) digital camera it turns kind of grey in the image! With my phone camera the colour is closer to what the naked eye sees (photo2)

Lightweight. Does a remarkable job of keeping the chill out while not overheating and blocking wind while staying breathable. More of a windbreaker on steroids or light layering piece than something that can be worn alone on colder days unless you are active. Stretch allows good freedom of movement. Surprisingly durable considering how thin it is. Water resistant (water beads but does soak in after a while) and dries quickly. Runs small. My regular size was snug but not uncomfortable due to stretch. Liked it enough that I also bought a size larger for layering underneath.

Takes the bite out of the wind, though not completely wind-proof. This means it's not the warmest but it's pretty much perfect for high-output activities like ski touring, which is what I got it for. Looks great, very comfy, nice range of motion, and it stuffs down into it's front left pocket and has a loop for clipping to a harness. I also plan to use it for rock climbing this fall. Outdoor Research delivers again!

Great jacket, got the blue and its a bit more muted in the flesh which is very nice. I got the large, I'm 5'10" and 190 pounds, athletic build and it fits well, not too tight around the shoulders and would allow a thin jumper under but not too baggy.Performance wise its very good, windproof so quite warm but breathable and lightweight. I use it for cycling on colder dry days and it's great.

Outer shells are always a tradeoff between warmth and breathability. The Ferrosi leans towards breathable, which makes it perfect for more aerobic activities. It works great on its own mid 50s and up, when in the 40s I use a wool midlayer and/or vest underneath. If it is in the rain, snow or mid 30s and below, a gore-tex shell is a better bet.

Love this jacket. Don’t buy as a rain jacket though. If you need a light weight, wind resistant, slightly water resistant, and very comfortable jacket, this is it. Makes a great versatile backcountry layer. I have used it for hiking, biking, climbing, and all kinds of every day use.

Lite, comfortable and portable. great feel to this jacket. It has not turned very cold here yet so I can not speak to that. Mid 40's-mid 50's it is very comfortable.I like that it feels more like a performance sweatshirt than a jacket. I am 5'11 at 250 lbs and it fits fine.

Great price, great product. Light, but blocks the wind and is breathable. With an insulated layer (sweater, hoodie, base layer etc) this will help keep you warm in low temps as well. Just won’t do that by it’s self. Not designed to though.

A quality piece of kit for a wide variety of uses. However, it’s not enough to keep you warm for prolonged exposure in cold weather, but an excellent all-around jacket.Fit is snug , if you’re unsure, I recommend ordering up a size.

The Ferrosi is a great lightweight jacket. Good for spring and fall hiking. Could be used as a wind stop layer with some mid layers beneath but too light for very cold weather by itself. Packs really well to carry on hikes.

Comfy, good lookin', keeps you covered in temps from the 30's with light wind to the 60's with a blustery wind. Put a light waterproof shell over it and you can stay warm into the 20's, provided you're moving.

Low weight, very breathable , but its good only for light breeze , does not look like can stand more then 10 min of light rain. good for mild spring/autumn only.
