There is a reason why Osprey's are one of the best selling packs on the market today. They combine great features, comfort, durability, and usefulness into one package. It has a 50L capacity.First off, if you haven't had a new pack in a while, stop and get a new one. My old pack was one from the 90s, and though it served me well for many day hikes and overnighters, it was time to move up. And a step up it is.First off the pack is light. New materials make this a very light pack. Also, the straps are highly adjustable for various sized people, so whether you are 5'6" or 6'2" you'll be able to find a comfortable fit for you. Another important thing is the fully padded shoulder and hip straps, which makes carrying heavy loads bearable and comfortable. The rig and internal frame is rigid, but not too heavy while not sacrificing comfort and adjust-ability.Another aspect of this pack that is so great is how it carrys the load. Previous packs carried the load directly on your back, with much of the weight on the shoulders. This distributes the weight with more on your hips, saving your shoulders. It also keeps the pack a bit off your back. At first it feels a bit weird, as the center of gravity and weight distribution is a bit different that I was used to, but after a few miles I hardly felt I was carrying anything at all! Also, with the ventilated back, it keeps your back from rubbing against the pack and sweating so much. There are pockets galore, including some nice zippered pouches on the hips, I use for my GPS, chapstick, etc. Mesh side pockets are good for medium sized water bottles, or whatever you want to put in there, snacks, flashlight, etc. Back pocket good sized as well. The top flap is large and can hold a lot of stuff, and has a retainer for your keys. It can also be detached completely.Top loading is a cinch, as it has multiple straps for tightening or loosening the pack to accommodate larger or smaller packouts. The large inside pocket can also be accessed by side zippers.Inside the pack there is a pocket for your hydration system, that can feed up through the top of the pack and attaching to one of your shoulder straps. The bottom of the pack features a tent/sleeping back compartment that can be accessed by the bottom zipper. And finally at the very bottom of the pack is a small compartment that contains a handy and very useful rainfly. No need to buy another! I still would waterproof the rainfly with repellent for extra rain proofing. The only drawback I see is a lack of molle loops, so as a previous reviewer noted means it is not meant for heavy duty hikes. I still feel it would be nice to have a couple because I like to attach my flip flops and a few rags to the outside of the pack. Having one or two would be very useful.Overall this is a really good packs for long day hikes or light overnights. 50L gives you plenty of capacity for light backpacking or a heavy duty day hike. Well worth the money, and with the quality of Osprey and their wonderful guarantee, who can go wrong with this?

I've done a fair share of hiking, mostly day hikes with some overnighters. Osprey backpacks are at the top of my list for versatile, well-made and comfortable backpacks. You will pay a premium for the quality, however; Osprey packs are not cheap. What do you get for the price? This Stratos 50 pack has a multitude of pockets to organize and separate your items for easy access and storage. The pockets on the hip pad are handy for items like a cell phone, money, keys, license that are accessible without removing the pack. There are several mesh pockets both inside and outside. Zippered compartments are plentiful; and I especially like the side-zipper on the main compartment. You don't have to undo the pull-string at the top and dig through the whole compartment to find something quickly. The main compartment expands to about 8" and is lined with waterproof material that would be fine for light rain or dew. If you are hiking in steady or heavy rain, then there is a rain cover included in its own storage pocket at the bottom. What I like most about this Stratos is the fully padded straps, padded hip belt and mesh back support. The frame of the pack is rigid without being heavy or bulky. Shoulder straps can be adjusted up/down because they are attached at the top with some strong velcro material. You simply detach the top of the straps from the back support and reposition. At 3.5 lbs, when fitted properly to my back, it becomes almost unnoticeable. The Osprey warranty is fantastic as well, with a lifetime damage or defect guarantee for any reason. This 50L model will hold enough gear for day hikes, light backpacking or a bug-out bag.. There are no molle loops on it, and it's not really meant for heavy-duty hiking trips. What a great backpack - light, comfortable, convenient and versatile. If you are looking for a slightly smaller size and/or to save some money, you might consider the

An awesome pack, especially for hiking in the PacNW, where the rain seems constant in the spring (because it is!). The waterproof cover is invaluable. It clocks in close to 3.5 pounds so it's relatively light for the size. Waist expands to fit a about a 50" waistline, which is generous, but may not work for all. There are so. many. pockets! The worst part is trying to remember where everything is stashed - but it makes it so much easier to get things out. It says it's unisex, but this female thinks it fits slightly better on a man (or maybe a taller woman?) as the compression straps aren't quite where I'd want them. Fortunately, they can be removed. It's got a compartment for a sleeping bag externally, which is nice. It can hold a deceptive amount of items, too. This is actually redesigned from their older version (which was pretty awesome too). There is a removable lid and a front zipper. It has a sleeve inside that a water bladder can sit in. There are zipper pockets on the hip belt.BEST PARTS? The frame does not sit directly on the back. It's actually pretty well ventilated. And there is an attachment spot for trekking poles to a small bungee loop on the shoulder strap. The biggest con is that the harness isn't adjustable.Overall, a great pack that has already gotten a lot of use and will be the main go-to pack for all the camping and hiking activities this summer.

This is really good weekender, not that I would expect less from Osprey. I feel comfortable with the back support and harness. My favorite features specifically are the integrated rain cover (lime green on the black model), and the availability and placement of the pockets. My least favorite feature is the design of the fastening draw cord on the main compartment, which I found unfriendly to one-handed operation. From top to bottom, I view the design and layout as efficient. Storage areas and other integrations have gear and convenience in mind. The main compartment loads from the top and closes with a drawstring under the flap. An extra zipper allows for another access point on the left side to the main compartment.A separate sleeve and buckle is built in to the main compartment for a hydration bladder. The flap is removable by simply unbuckling it from the straps. The sleeping bag compartment is at the bottom accessible by zipper. The integrated rain cover sits at the bottom in its own zippered pouch as well.At the time of this review, I didn't see this listed on the description. In case it helps, there is a slight size/weight variation between the S/M and the M/L at 2866 c.i. vs. 3051 c.i., respectively.

I have the Stratos 24 and 36,the 36 is the last version before they just changed it. It`s a great pack but for a 3 day trip its a bit small. The thing I like about this pack is better suspension and the stretch pocket on the back which also has another zip pocket. The only thing I don't like about this pack is the top is removable but unlike my Atmos 65 AG,there is no flap to cover the top loading opening.Other than that the side mesh water bottle pockets are almost twice as deep as may last gen stratos 36. I only rated it 4 stars because I haven't used it yet,but I have three other osprey packs.

Bought this as the cheap Amazon special had seen better days and wanted to see what a proper back pack was like. Turns out it’s worth the difference in price as the ease of adjustment and comfort is leagues above what I had before. Lots of compartments to stash equipment in. Zips seem good quality also. Have hiked over 250km with this pack and had no issues. The only slight downside I can think of is that bags heavier than previous ones I’ve had, but that’s due to it having a frame which more than compensates in the comfort department.

I don't know how they can better this backpack. It is super well made, perfect for trips and medium to long backpacking, more perfectly accessible pockets than you know what to do with. Great ventilation so you're not sweating after 15 minutes of hicking, and great support and suspension for the most comfortable backpack I've ever owned... and I've owned over 15 in my lifetime. I'm kind of a backpack junking because I love traveling and being outdoors.

I just took this pack on a hike for the first time, and I was astonished by how light it felt. By combining the shoulder straps with the hip straps, this backpack truly felt like I wasn't carrying much. It has plenty of pockets to store all your gear, and the pockets on the hip strap proved to be useful. I would recommend this pack to anyone going hiking for their first time, for this is very beginner friendly.

I grabbed this backpack for a two week trip in the jungles of Peru. Boy oh boy am I glad I had this not so little guy. It kept me organized and compact and was the only "luggage" I brought with me other than a small day pack. Compartments are well though out and made my day to day routine very simple to manage.

Purchased for my husband for some short backpacking trips, he liked it so much that he now uses it whenever we fly to avoid checking bags. It is the perfect size for a carry on and we have had no issues using it as such. Also, the quality of materials can’t be beat for the price!

Great bag for couple day hikes, took it out to big sur in California and was very pleased. All of the compartments make it easy to keep your things organized and the built in rain cover makes hiking in any weather super easy

This pack is a great first step in reducing pack weight. It's not as beefy as packs I've previously used, but it's much lighter and has lots of nice little pouches and features. The built in rain fly comes in handy.

I used this for a 4 day backpacking trip in the Grand Tetons. It was packed full but was perfect. I even packed too much food. The pack cover saved me during the rain more than once. Great Great Great

This is a light weight, robust, very compartmentalised and multi use mid-sized backpack. Great fit for day / few days trips. The back system is fully adjustable and very comfortable.

Used this on a 2 week vacation in southeast Asia. It can hold a ton of stuff, and the compression straps are great. Brought as a carry on fully packed many times with no issues. A++
