If there is one thing I want to do more of this year, it’s hiking. Whether it’s a short hike in a nearby park or a longer hike lasting multiple hours in an open wilderness, I want to get outdoors more than in the past. For this reason, I now have an assortment of backpacks and the latest addition to my arsenal is Osprey Rook 50 Backpacking Pack.I needed a larger backpack, capable of holding more items and with more versatility. My other backpacks are generally simplistic in design and not made to handle much more than what you would need for about three or four hours. Osprey Rook 50 Backpacking Pack was the larger addition I was looking for. It has a more rigid design with a solid backing and multiple compartments, including one that can hold a sleeping bag. The mesh side pockets and hip belt pockets provide the space you need for a serious hike. And there are multiple pockets overall, perfect for organizing the different extras necessary for a serious expedition. As for comfort, this one scores good marks. I wasn’t so sure the first time I tried it on for size. I had trouble removing it, but that is because, well, I’m not as flexible as I once was and I didn’t adjust the straps first. That made putting I on easy, but taking it off was a different matter. Once I realized my mistake and adjusted the straps as needed, I didn’t have any trouble at all. I admit, this backpack does feel different from my other backpacks, most of which are not rigid in construction and are more or less collapsible. This Osprey Backpack feels different, but this is to be expected, since it is capable of so much more than others. This backpack is lightweight for its size. I like the ventilated mesh backing- it’s a trampoline style mesh and it helps with airflow, which is good when you live in a hot climate like mine and need any assistance you can get to stay cool. It has a rain cover, too, and multiple ways to adjust the straps for the perfect fit.Hiking is slowing turning into a regular occurrence for me. I have joined a few groups that do regular day hikes across the city, as well as longer hikes on weekend. I liked having an assortment of backpacks and the Osprey Rook 50 Backpacking Pack is a most excellent addition to my collection. I can’t wait to put it to further use this spring when I take longer, more strenuous hikes through central and west Texas.

I do a lot of backpacking in the Rockies. This is my fifth backpack, and I would rank it in the top two overall for comfort, but middle of the bunch for function. A run-down of the good and bad after a long weekend in mountains of northern New Mexico:- The ventilation for the back is better than average. Still get a sweaty back, but can feel more air movement.- The balance of the pack is nominal. The rear ventilation feels like it pushes the center of gravity backwards a bit. I was able to adjust the compression straps to help this a lot.- I missed a mesh pocket in the rear, or at least some bungees to secure wet towels, shoes, etc. Also needs a couple of extra carabiner attachment points on the back.- Pockets are basic and minimal. You have a top pocket and a couple of small zipped pouches on the hip belt.- The sleeping bag compartment is average in size, but works well. Nice to have that separate compartment.- Shoulder and sternum straps are highly adjustable and comfortable.- Easy to carry collapsible walking stick sin the side pouches using the compression straps.Summary: This is a good minimalist pack overall. I like a few more attachment points, but the pack is comfortable and has good air flow. I will use this one for weekend over-nighters, but prefer a more robust pack for longer treks. Good introductory pack.

It's great used it traveling and backpacking. It's not the most comfortable backpacking as it sits very low on my hips or I will start to get bruises. When it sits low it makes it harder to walk up hill drastically where I would in clip the hip belt to just help. For a single day or short hik I would sit it high on my hips but once at 2 full days definitely lower. Apart from this absolutely amazing bag for the price I got 55 euro so 50 pound. It doesn't matter how u pack this bag Ur cook pot right against Ur back if u want the system helps amazingly. The back system is great I would like a mesh on the outside of the back now but it does have clip points maybe I'll make a system but when Urhiking and it's to hot u take of a layer I'll take of my fleece and shove it in the ventaltion system so I don't have to take the bag off open it and stuff so much easier. The back system works great u do not sweat a drop in your t shirt but even when wearing more I still think it's better. It's study packs a lot it's great and amazing the price with the garentee. Also it kinda heavy

I like the looks of this Rook backpack from Osprey. It doesn't have the sprawling pockets and compartments like the Aura or Atmos. To me it has cleaner lines and less clutter. You do loose some extra features but you get a more simplified pack that you're less likely to forget what is exactly in that zippered pocket. For the slightly less technical you get more than enough in features IMHO.It still has the chest strap safety whistle, the ventilated back panel and load transferring to the hips.I love the comfort of Osprey packs. They are great at that. This pack is also tough. It can go on a weeks trip and when you return home you can wash it off with a little soap and water then hang it up to dry.It can take it.The hip storage is my favorite as it keeps the smartphone and snacks. Perfect. I also like the way the hydration option was not just a quick add-on but rather a full featured and smartly integrated. All in all I think this is one of my favorite packs from Osprey. The size, shape and compartments are about just right.5 star quality, materials and design.

It's a good start for someone getting into slightly more minimalistic backpacking...However there are some things that should be addressed. The first is the lack of rear facing pocket and additional loops for attachment that a lot of Osprey packs such as the Kestryl does have. Comparing this side by side with other Osprey backpacks I own, it becomes abundantly clear that this is built as a budget pack, yet compared to Osprey backpacks at the same price point, it still feels lacking. For someone looking at this pack, I would recommend you steer closer to the Kestryl line of backpacks... which even at volumes lower than this pack appear to have more room for required backpacking gear,as well as a seemingly stronger frame.

This was the best price I could find on the internet or in stores, and the quality is wonderful. I've used it to hike, travel, and ovenight camp several times, and it has held up excellently. I would (and have) recommend to a friendThe size is great, and is very adjustable. I am 5'11 200lbs and it's a great fit, but would also fit people bigger and smaller. The blacked-out aesthetic is awesome too

Fantastic rucksack and very comfortable. On the smaller side of 50l but may take time for material to relax. Quality build and very well designed. I am so pleased with this purchase. I can fit everything I need for a few days of wintery wild hiking and camping. ?

Used my bag for a bag packing trip in Morocco and it was awesome. I was able to pack everything I needed for my trip and more in it. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a bag pack.

This is great for kids because it can adjust with them as they grow. Perfect size for new/younger scouts getting into hiking.

Great bag with trimmed down features. It’s still osprey quality with an attractive price point

Great backpack.. I just started hiking at 70 years young and it was if I had no load at all.

26.10.2020

Would have liked to have either a net across the back or another pocket on the back

25.2.2020

Great weight support. It has enough room for a 2-6 day hike if you pack correctly.
