Bottom Line: This backpack is exactly what it claims to be.1. I can’t fit a lot of stuff inside. I know there were some reviews about the lack of space but I honestly don’t understand how. I added a picture of some stuff I wanted to fit in on my first try and there was plenty of room after that. I can carry my laptop and daily stuff and a jacket and my coffee mug and my water bottle/jug and still have room. So much room.2. It is not hard to locate your stuff. Seriously I’m not especially organized and I can reach in there and find whatever I’m looking for quickly. If you need your wallet often put it on top or spend literally 15 seconds looking for it.3. The front pocket is not useless.

-Good backpack for school: high school + college + beyond-Well padded, has back compartment inside for laptop that easily fit my 15.6 in ASUS laptop-I ordered backpack in grey, looks slightly darker than in picture on Amazon-Side note: Wish it had more inside compartments, but on the plus side you can fit a lot in the backpack, ie: I managed to fit in a 1.5 in textbook, three 1 in notebooks, my clutch, two small reading books, my external battery(size of avg. book), and my ASUS laptop with room to spare: and with all of that in it, still felt nice, albeit heavy, on my shoulders/back.I just wish the cute smaller Herschel black and white polka dot backpack came in this size/style.EDIT: Buy this

I bough this along with 2 other backpacks and 3 large purses trying to find a solution for the perfect student/laptop/camera/city bag as I go to school in Paris coming up. I expect to ride the bike a lot, but really wanted something that would also serve as a purse... i.e. something convertible. Grabbed this one just in case and really it is fantastic. The padding for my laptop (15" MBP retina) makes me comfortable to take it out of it's sleeve and just use the pouch provided in the backpack. It is super comfortable, roomy, secure and looks great. It was the most expensive of all of the options I picked up (hence the reason I was hoping it wouldn't be my favorite), but it really is.

First and foremost, the package came right on time, which I really appreciated. The package was handled with excellent care. Also, don't be fooled by the flap that magnetically straps down; it makes the bag look smaller than it really is. In actuality, the bag runs along the entire length of the photo that you see. I'm about 5'3 and this bag is a perfect fit. The padded straps is definitely more comfortable on my shoulders than previous backpacks that I've used. The little pocket to hold my Macbook Pro 13" was also a perfect fit. The lining of the pocket is soft to keep the laptop in good condition. I didn't notice in the photo that there is indeed a pocket in the front near the logo too!

I am not a huge backpack person, so I did extensive research before I purchased a backpack that is versatile. I wanted it big enough to travel but small enough for school so it fits my computer and doesn't look too bulky. I am very happy with my purchase - it easily fits a large packing cube with 7 outfits or so, along with a toiletries bag and a pair of Keds. I plan to use this for my month-long travels through Europe and Africa. It doesn't have a side pocket that is easily accessible, but I plan to carry a small purse for that sort of stuff. Somehow, when I pack the bag, I keep adding more in there! The color is perfect and goes with everything. Overall, love it!

I love this backpack! The size is prefect for me (college student). I cannot tell you how many things I have fit in this backpack. I put two thick books, my iPad, pencil case, water bottle (big), snacks, a pair of boots, make up bag (mid sized), and one of those travel size toiletries kit plus a thick sweater (don't ask me how I managed to fit all). I also put my wallet, keys and those random stuff. It doesn't have many pockets so I use the laptop one to put small stuff I need to find easily like my wallet. I've been walking under the rain with it and nothing gets wet! I highly recommend this backpack it's just awesome and so stylish!

My main concern with this bag was storage since it is smaller than the other Hershel that's available on Amazon. To my surprise this bag has a ton of storage for its size. I was able to fit my 15.5 inch laptop, 4 books, a 1 liter bottle of water, a 16oz beverage and still have room for other items! The best part about a bag like this is there aren't any crazy fancy compartments or zippers all over the place. I had a previous bag like that and it seemed more form over function IMO. I currently use this as my bag when I commute to work and I absolutely love and it recommended it to anyone that wants something that's roomy and stylish.

The fleece lined laptop sleeve and the padded shoulder straps are the main reason I use this backpack for college. As a commuter college student, I am forced to carry my entire day's worth of stuff in my backpack.Pros: fleece lined (and padded) laptop sleeve, padded shoulder straps, durable materials, the magnetic buttons, able to carry what I needCons: not enough pockets, front pocket won't keep anything secured so be wary of that, the drawstring portion gets a bit windy which may make it hard to maneuver with one hand, everything seems to fall forward making the backpack look extremely large

I use this daily, great for packing things to and from work. Also has a laptop sleeve for the weekends when I bring my laptop home with me. The navy version has an interior that looks pink from afar. Its actually red and white stripes but from a distance you cant see the pinstriping and it just appears pink. My 1 complaint is that it has no latch for the small front pocket. So anything that I put in there is prone to dumping out and getting lost. Not a huge deal but a small detail.

A new backpack for my teenage girl. She is very satisfied with this backpack. Her school only allows black or grey bags. This bag is black but has the leather-looking pvc straps that gives a slight touch that makes it different from plain black or grey bags. And when you lift the flap, the red stripes and velvety inside give feminine character to the bag. The straps are padded and comfortable so it is suitable to be used to carry school books. Absolutely gorgeous!

Definitely a big fan and supporter of Herschel. This is my second backpack from their brand and I’m pleased. Very comfy and classic style. Got into Herschel, from seeing their products at the local skateshop. I ended buying their “Hank” wallet and classic backpack. I had to get the Retreat because the mountaineering style and traveling with my beat machine and laptop. If you’re looking for a backpack that has a clean aesthetic but has standout feel, this a go to.

i've wanted a herschel for awhile, and i'm so happy i picked one up.this bag is perfect and aesthetically pleasing way for carrying my laptop, gym clothes and lunch without breaking my back (i consider myself fit but i'm a 5'6" 125 lbs girl).although i'm carrying a lot around downtown, i don't feel like a bag lady. there's been a few times a stranger would compliment me on my bag in passingherschel bags are functional and fashionable: a rare combination.

I absolutely love this bag! I use it for school and the gym. It fits on my back very well and does not feel as heavy as other backpacks I've had. I'm assuming that's because the straps are thick and cushioned. I really like the way it looks. It fits my laptop with textbooks no problem. I wish it had a bigger pocket inside for make up and such but it's not the biggest deal. There is a small pocket inside for pens and gum. I am very happy with this purchase!

This is amazing!!! I was looking for a birthday present for my sister and she loves it!!It looks great and it is large to fit almost everything! Perfect for everyday activities and also for trips/school/beach etc.I was hoping that the grey colour would be slightly lighter, that's why I give it 4 stars, but other than that it is perfect.Very sturdy and it is made from quality material. The straps look fine and the back is supported as well.

I love this backpack. It holds a lot of books, notebooks and my 15" Mac. It is also great quality material and design. The best thing is the top fabric is semi-waterproof, so no more worrying about rain ruining your laptop! However, I dislike that there aren't any organizational pouches within the bag, or even a water bottle holder. That being said, there is room for books as well as pencil pouches needed to keep your things together.
