Having recently sent back a faulty wet and dry vacuum cleaner - a Karcher - i was hoping this one would work - and it does. however, it arrived with a slightly cracked carrying handle. so slight that it seemed not worth the effort to pack it up again and send it back; besides which, i need it NOW. so i thought i'd test the wet function out, and if it worked then i'd ignore the handle defect. happily it sucked water up vigorously, and in no time at all i had a clean kitchen floor - having simply slooshed bowls of water over the floor and sucked the water up again. less effort than a mop, and more efficient. (hopefully it'll perform equally well if i have to clean up muddy flood water, which is what i've bought it for.) i was very impressed with the ease of cleaning the wet filter - which is a lid and a basket-like attachment with a net covering, and a plastic float ball inside. i simply rinsed it under running water, and it was clean in a moment. it dried very quickly, too. the bucket part emptied easily, as it has a handle for carrying, and with a quick rinse round, i left it to dry upside down, outside. shortly afterwards i was able to reassemble the now-dry cleaner with the dry filter and dirt bag (five of these are provided)and it did a very good job of dry vacuuming a wooden floor, a rough stone flag floor and a carpeted staircase. top marks for suction, both dry and wet.one definite point against this cleaner: (i found this with a previous Numatic cleaner, too.) the tubes assemble by pushing into each other, and they are difficult to push into place, and really difficult to get off again, especially if you have slightly arthritic hands. a simple twist and click mechanism would work so much better. the flex is extremely long, which is good, but does not retract into the cylinder, as some of the Numatic cleaners do. the various cleaning heads are well made, although the rubber-edged one for wet cleaning looks a little flimsy; time will tell whether it stands up to rough stone flags, etc. however, all the parts are easily replaceable from Numatic.on balance - and assuming it keeps working as well as it's done so far, i think this is a good buy. i'd prefer the tubes to assemble much more easily, and i also found the top, which houses the motor, quite difficult to fix in place: the push-in 'ears' don't push in easily - they have to be practically kicked into place! these may seem small quibbles, but they all add up to extra expenditure of effort. please take note, Numatic!

I was having renovations done to my house and needed to clean up some building rubble and plaster dust. I was then using a Morphy Richards vacuum that I inherited from my sister, it had these two big cyclonic chambers (a la Dyson) however it’s performance was lacking. Despite its looks it would clog up if you even vaguely went near any plaster dust, this is due to the tiny filters and convoluted air path through the machine. Plaster dust is possibly one of the worst things to vacuum as it is extremely fine and sticks to everything. I had always though Numatics must be good as all the professional cleaners use them and I wanted to get a Henry.I bought this instead of the Henry as the Henrys are limited to a lower power due to energy saving regulations,Charles is 1.3kw as it is a wet/dry and falls under a different category. Also the appeal of the wet vacuum mode was a positive, so far I'm super happy with it. What I love about the Numatic stuff is that it is very simple and very high quality. There are no gimmicks or fancy tricks or expensive marketing (l'm looking at you Dyson). Their stuff just works and they wouldn’t be so popular with professional cleaners if they didn’tI also suffer from allergies so am sensitive to dust, I have never liked bagless vacuum cleaners as you constantly have to empty and clean the filters, whereas with bags you just pull the bag off, seal it and throw it. The suction is very strong and the accessories are simple but well made, particularly the brush head which is made with horsehair which keeps its shape unlike nylon bristles which are more common.I hadn’t used the wet feature until recently, my dad was visiting and he dropped his toothbrush head down my sink. I thought it was a goner but remembered Charles can do wet as well. It took less than a minute to change into wet mode and it sucked up the whole sink trap including the toothbrush head.My only criticisms are that it lacks a winding feature like the henry, however I have never liked the self-retracting cords as they always break after a while. Also it’s a bit bulky and large, but the plus side is that it has huge capacity. Overally highly recommended.

We spent a couple of days agonising about whether to replace our 6 year old Dyson, that had just got weaker and weaker over the last year, despite new filters etc, with another Dyson. I felt that something as fundamentally simple and (you'd hope) rugged as a vacuum cleaner would last rather longer. So, we went for a Charles - and bought it on line knowing that if it was rubbish we'd send it back and get a Dyson.Initially we were going to get a Henry - but the slightly larger capacity of the Charles, and more importantly, the extra wet and dry ability swayed us.It's far from rubbish! We bought the optional extra Airo-Head which has a rotating brush built in - and that was a good move,as the standard brush head is hard work to use - because the suction is so strong! We've got two cats and a dog, and the Dyson was leaving the finer hairs behind - Charles doesn't!The carpets look like new again. A quick once over with Charles was all that was needed. I can see why cleaning companies buy these - they are superb. Quieter than a Dyson, better suction and they feel like they will last forever - and all the parts you might need to replace are easily available and not at all expensive. We've not tried him wet yet - but I doubt that he will disappoint us based on what he's done so far. It's hard to rave about a vacuum cleaner in a review - after all they aren't exactly a Ferrari are they? But if you buy a Numatic cleaner I think you'll be really pleased with it. I do think the airo-head was a worthwhile extra - it makes it easier to use, and the brushing action has always been the unique selling point of cylinder vacuums -so it must help get hairs and dust up from the carpets.Overall - 10 out 10 for Charles - he's made in the UK and costs less than half what an equivalent Dyson does.If you want a good quality vacuum cleaner - get a Henry or a Charles - or any of their brothers and sisters. Well made, great suction and a cheeky smile! What more could you want?

Firstly, let's get the only negative out of the way - it doesn't have the superb cord storage that the other Numatic hoovers have. Not sure why ??Right, putting that to one side now I am going to tell you how good it is.I had the Numatic Henry HVR200A (the older model Henry with a high and a low speed setting on it), and to be fair that is a superb Hoover too, but I wanted one that could pick water up too, so i started doing my homework ...It had to be a Numatic as I really rated the ones I have used before. The only thing that was bugging me was that my girlfriend had recently bought the Hetty model, and the suction just didn't seem anywhere near what my old HVR200A was, so I rang Numatic up.I was right, the new ones are much less powerful than the old ones - due to silly new E.U. Laws/Regs believe it or not.So the new one I was going to buy HAD to be better than my old HVR200A; this one is ...If you want my honest advice, DO NOT BUY ANY OF THE NEW MODEL DRY PICK UP NUMATIC HOOVERS AS THEY ARE HALF AS POWERFUL AS THEY USED TO BE - DUE TO THE E.U. - but what I didn't realise is, until I rang Numatic again, is that the new laws on vacs DO NOT APPLY to wet vacs - and this model is classed as a wet vac - so that's the way around it if you are obsessed with the suction power like me; This vac has one suction speed - INSANELY POWERFUL !My advice, don't mess around with the new models with around 600w of power, when this one is TWICE that, and it's only about £30 more, AND it also picks up water. It is an absolute bargain, and a absolute beast of a Hoover, and for the price I paid off amazon it is so much better than a fancy Dyson. The Dysons are much more technical/better looking hoovers, but the key to this model being so damn good, is its sheer simplicity. These hoovers are pretty much bomb proof and there is very little to them, which makes them so simple, and so brilliant.I hope you trust what you have just read, and thanks for reading my ad.

What can I say... Charles has become a new member of our family loved by all (except the dog-who is scared of Charles' face, as we wheel him around the home, believing him to be competition for his position as favoured household pet)!Things to love;1. Variable suction (controlled by a slide panel at the top of the hose section) from light, for dust, on furnishings, to extreme, for inground soot, on the carpet ( And I mean EXTREME- beware small change, earring backs & other loose floor debris)!2. Lightweight & easily manouverable ( particularly important as I have to carry it up & down stairs).3. Massive capacity for collection before bag needs replacing, yet the body of the unit is small enough to store away, easily, under our stairs.4. Obvious advantage of being able to suck up liquid spills & unblock plugholes as well as standard, everyday dry dirt. (Hubby finds it useful for cleaning the wood burner out, the morning after use, too).5. Separate lid (housing motor) -easily clips, & lifts, on & off, with no hinges, so easy access for fitting & removing bags & clearing obstructions in hose.6. Excellent quality filter (my kids have asthma & eczema so this is vital for us as a family).7. Fun design & ease of use- the kids are actually happy to vacuum their own rooms, without help or complaint, & have even volunteered to do others!Small niggles;1. I have to take final hose/tube section off to fit in the cupboard as it's so long.2. The cable for the plug is lovely & long but it can slip down, over the body of the vacuum, when packed away, as the only way to store it is to wind it round it's lid/hat (a couple more 'cable tidy' hook's on the lid would solve this problem- as the one supplied is not enough to hold it up all the way around).Summary; What's not to love... in addition its British made- so no problems with getting spare parts, replacement filters & bags etc!

This wet and dry vacuum cleaner was delivered next day, so very happy about that as needed a replacement hoover quickly!.It has immensely powerful suction and a generous power cable that extends approx 20 feet, so very useful if wanting to hoover from one room to another without having to unplug the cable!. Comes with all the essential parts such as vacuum bags and parts to do the wet cleaning, so no extra purchase necessary - only the floor cleaning liquid not supplied. What I particularly love about this hoover is the fact that it has a generous long hose assembly that can be adjusted to any height you prefer, and a floor tool brush that glides effortlessly on rugs and carpets.Although I am yet to use the wash tub facility, very simple to put together so no instructions are necessary: parts just slot together with ease and pretty self-explanatory without having to refer to a manual for instance. This brand of vacuum by far the best on the market and they do last years if domestically used and parts replaced every couple of years. The character of the Charles just as stunning and capable of all tasks as the George and a lot cheaper to buy too - you definitely get your money's worth with this vacuum cleaner and because it outstrips the performance of even some of the most top brand regular ones.

I've had this bad boy for a few years now and am amazed at his capacity to suck. I use the bags as we have a couple of dogs and have bought some of the turbo brush attachments to help with the pickup of dog hair. However the real reason for buying Charles rather than his brother Henry is because of his wet capability. It takes less than a minute to change is dry innards for the wet one, and you have a machine that will unblock your kitchen drain in no time. He's like a third dog but with the advantage he's useful, picks up hair instead of shedding it, unblocks drains, clears up spills and if you treat him to some of the available attachments he can do practically anything. If they sold wings I'm sure he would fly. The only downside on the old boy is that he is a bit big. My wife thinks he's a bit heavy, but as I said to her, " he's not meant to sit on your lap!" I also seem to remember that he broke a wheel not long after we got him but spares were readily available, unlike the previous vacuum cleaner. I'd buy another if he ever gives up the ghost but I have a feeling he'll see me out!June 2019. Still going strong and into his third turbo head, and he's also has one replacement tube and pipe set.

Easy to put together. It came with a wide selection of attachments. I especially like the small rectangular end which can have a brush slid on and off it - as with the brush on it is very good to use to dust vacuume hard surfaces in the kitchen, living room, windowsils, etc; and without the brush it is useful for the stairs, sofa and other soft furnishings. I got the Charles because it can be used for a wet emergency - which I hope not to ever have. Of course in a plumbing emergency I will have to remember to remove the bag, remove the filter and fit the wet overflow sensor. The Charles is very a powerful unit. There is no switching between high and low power. There is no clever flex winding mechanism on the model I received. I reckon that I have gone slightly overkill on power and size by buying this model. It is quite effortous to use, but I am OK with this, but some others might not be. Overal though I am very content with the Charles I received and used today to clean my whole house. It seems a bit wierd going back to a bagged vacuume cleaner, not knowing when it is full or empty by sight. But the bag in it holds 14 litres (!) so will probably need changing 6 monthly at most.

This is just a very quick review as I've literally just put it together and have the hall and garage a quick once over.Instructions are very good and the parts you get are plentiful and usefull. My hallway is laminate flooring and the last couple of days we've had tons of leaves blowing in everytime the door opens. I've just given the floor a VERY quick going over and the suction on this vacuum is mental. I could barely move the head across the floor. It got all the leaves without issue and the dust from the edges that our Kirby missed. The garage floor was covered in sunflower seed husks as a sneaky family of mice have hidden away somewhere in there and are nicking our chickens treats.30 seconds later and the garage floor is spotless with the vacuum never faltering. Not had chance to try the wet function yet but now I've said that you just know my radiators are going to burst when I've put the vacuum away.Anyway, this is an amazing bit of kit. We've got a Kirby (it was a gift-wrapped I wasn't gonna spend that kinda money on a vacuum), and a G-tech handheld and upright which are all brilliant. But this is ideal for the really messy jobs.Worth every penny ?

- Started off with a nasty high pitch noise at first but it has worn in nicely after a few hours use- Powerful enough to pick up small pieces of rubble and nails- Doesn't get blocked up by very fine building dust- I've been through about 6 bags worth and it has only blocked once or twice where the pipe enters the body, it was very easy to unblock- Fairly lightweight for its size- Tough enough for daily use on a building site- Be sure to use the right bags and not the smaller Henry ones like I did (they split every time)!- The large main filter in the body is great. Even if the bag splits, or you don't use a bag at all, this filter stops any muck getting in the motor. It will need to be bashed clean when you empty,or better still use another vacuum cleaner to remove all the muck and dust. Put it back together and the power is back to like new again- Decent head that cleans right to the edges of skirting boards etc.- Makes my £350 domestic upright vacuum cleaner that sounds like Tyson seem overpriced and under poweredWell done Charles, keep up the good work!

Impressive quality and power. The EU ruled that vacuum cleaner motors can no longer be particularly powerful, as a means of cutting energy consumption. Fortunately this ruling does not apply to Wet and dry vacuum cleaners, the result is that Charles is still equipped with the powerful 1200 watt motor we used to see in old Henry vacuums. Consequently this model is a powerful beast, it eats everything in its path. Spare parts are easy to find and cheap. The bags are huge and again easy to find. I am well impressed with this vacuum cleaner and would have it in preference to more expensive, over engineered brands which are well marketed but ultimately less reliable. Definitely recommend. It's also great for unblocking drains when in liquid mode. This is a cleaner that will last years and take a beating. There's a baffle inside the body to catch larger objects before they disappear into the bag which is an excellent design feature, particularly as it's so powerful you do occasionally hoover up the Amazon Fire Stick remote control!

Love this hoover. Not used it more than 3/4 times, so can't yet comment on longevity - hoping that the myriad of positive reviews for Numatics hoovers prove true.Tip to the wise - it's probably been said in other reviews - but EU law now severely limits the power of dry vacuum hoovers. Go for a wet hoover though, and the loophole allows more powerful motors (1200W). Use this for hoovering the cars and the workshop - nice long mains lead means that I can hoover out the car at the front of the driveway (2 cars long) without using an extension lead. Unit rolls nicely, low centre of gravity, so when pulling around it shouldn't topple and bang into the cars bodywork (unlike my old expired hoover...askme how I know...).Not got as far as filling a bag and emptying - cant imagine this will be an issue though. The only slight negative, is that the hoover comes with loads of accessories (good), but the fittings used for water vacuuming are large and bulky to store...which they will be for most of the time.

Setting up was really easy, cos the manual showed each process in detail. You have to take the wet function filter out, as it is shipped with this in place. place a bag inside, making sure the fitting is firmly over the input nozzle, and then add the dust filter (loose in the box) replace the lid and Charles is ready to go. Screw the hose in place, choose your fitting for the job in hand and plug in.The power it has is quite surprising! Mine tried to hoover up the carpet, and the rug in the main living room! It did pick up all sorts of things - loose stones that had been walked into the house were no problem. a good test of a vacuum is to take the Floor fitting off of the hose and put the open end of the hose against the ceiling. It should hold the weight of the hose easliy, and this one does that and is quite a yank to remove. Highly pleased with "Charles" and though I have yet to have a need to use him in "Wet" mode, but I assume that he will perform as well in that mode as he does in "Dry"

...and 3 cheers for Charles! Another simply brilliant and brilliantly simple machine from Numatic. I have had ideas floating about in my head for a couple of weeks; cleaning ash out of the woodburning stoves, and the difficulties of washing a 300 year old stone floor (not even remotely smooth) in a cottage where wellies don't necessarily get left at the back door. This fills in the gaps left by the Henry I already have. It comes complete with a set of tools (not made altogether clear in the description) which includes a handy and efficient floor tool with a sort of double squeegee which would be really good on normal smooth floors, but which I shall be surprised if I don't have to replace regularly on my rough ones.Very good for cleaning out the shower drain without bending or groping about. Having had, in the past, Dyson, Hoover and Vax machines, this is my third Henry, and I would always choose them again.

This is the best hoover I have ever owned. He has stunningly good suction as others have said that lifts carpets with it's force.I have two very hairy dogs with dense undercoats and have found that the attachments provided were enough to deal with that admirably, no more apologising for dog hair.I love Charles so much I haven't stopped hoovering since I got him. The pack comes with some Hepa Filtration dustbags also in case you were wondering. I couldn't find out whether these were included but they are. I can't praise this hoover enough. I haven't used the wet option yet so can't really comment but if its as good as the dry then it will be awesome. The only cons I can see is if you are elderly/infirm with upstairs to your house this would be difficult as he isn't the lightest I imagine because of the motor that provides the incredible suction All in all probably best money I ever spent.
