Over the last month I have bought and compared all series of microplane products. The first reason why I keep buying them is because you won't find anywhere write "Made in Chine" all model use the same made in USA blade despite on the little sticker you can read assembled in Mexico and second they're made for last.Microplane has now 5 main lines: Professional, Premium classic, Elite, Home, GourmetAcross all models designs and options differ:- Professional is similar to many graters, the plate and the handle are all made in stainless steel.- Premium classic series has that long lean body that everyone recognizes easily as Microplane design, stainless steel blade and plastic/rubber body.- Gourmet series: looks sleek and offers ample grating and shaving surface, soft-touch handles, plus non slip rubber ends.- Home Series: The body and handle is made of plastic only the paddle is metal, the quality of the blades is always the same but overall the item looks less profession and more for normal home cooking.- Elite Series: includes a transparent cover that doubles as a grating catch feature and measuring cup. When positioned underneath the grater, the dual-purpose cover/measuring cup allows chefs and home cooks to conveniently zest citrus and grate a wide range of ingredients with more control and precision. All series come with small rubber feet in order to give more control preventing accidental slips while grating, they also protect the surfaces and bowls. In my opinion the purchase should be based always on what you expect want from the item you're buying.Sturdiness: 1. Professional, 2. Elite, 3. Gourmet / Premium 4. Home.Design : 1. Elite, 2. Professional 3. Gourmet 4. Premium 4. HomeBlades: 1. Professional, Gourmet, Premium, 2 Home and elite. To say is that you can buy as optional the slider attachment, this one will keep your hands safely away from blades while grating. The attachment is available only for the: Home, Professional and Gourmet series. The very last thing to say is that you can still buy the Classic Zester on amazon Mod. 40020 this one as been discontinued, doesn't have rubber feets and reviews states that the plastic is made off is not sturdy as the premium series.

I hated grating peel for recipes. My old grater made such a mess of the job, and a mess of the kitchen. In comparison this tool is sheer genius. I made fresh fig and orange muffins today and as always, got a plate ready to lessen the mess when I grated the orange skin.. Much to my surprise there was virtually no mess and it took seconds to pass the grater over the orange skin. The peel was caught neatly in the curve of the grater and there was no turning the orange over and over hunting for missed sections of peel.I had no idea that a good tool could make such an amazing difference. The peel is beautifully fine with no pith. The grater comes with a cover to slide on to keep it safe in a drawer.Just as well as it is very sharp indeed.I had dithered over buying this for ages as the cost is eye wateringly high for a gadget I won’t use that often but it really is worth it. Mind you the fig and orange muffins are so tasty I might be making more before the fresh fig season ends, and adding peel to other dishes with gay abandon.

Before I got this, I would have spent ages using a course grater to do lemon zests only to get tiny bits then spend just as long trying to wash it without getting the green scourer bit of the sponge on it too.I came here looking for a lemon zester and this got great reviews so I thought I'd give it a go and man I'm so glad I did. I did 2 lemons in a matter of seconds! It's so amazing and when zest was building up behind it, just a light tap would clear it. Previously I would have had to get a spoon/knife to scrape it.Do not hesitate or be put off by the price, just get it and you will be glad you did. Thank you to all the previous people who reviewed this product before me coz it was the reviews that got me to go for this. And thank you to the inventor of this product too!!!A note to amazon though, it arrived in a huge box with lots of protective padding inside. The box was big enough to fit mid calf boots which I had to pick up from royal mail. A padded envelope would have done.

Anna Jones' recipe book suggests to purchase this grater to obtain great results when grating ginger, lemon and oranges. The quality is very good: the blades are very sharp and grate with minimal effort. I like I can get the zest of lemons and oranges without cutting them too deeply and getting that bitter taste of the white part.I am not getting great results with the ginger as it has a lot of fiber and it tends to get "mushed" on the grater: the zest gets stuck and I have to help it into the pan/plate with my fingers or with a spoon. This grater works much better with oranges, lemons, chocolate and nutmeg. The handler is made of some sort of silicon that makes it easy to hold the grater.I wash it using some dishwasher soap and rinse it with lukewarm water. I dry it and put the plastic protector back on. Has it changed my life in the kitchen? Not exactly! It is a very good product and I hope that it is going to last considering the high price tag.

I bought this as a gift for my dad. so far it's been used for both grating parmesan and zesting a lemon and has performed brilliantly at both tasks. The blades are sharp enough to ensure that the food glides across the Microplanes- it doesn't drag it like most other graters. The long and narrow shape allows for long grating strokes and helps to get the job done quickly. The handle is comfortable to use and feels well balanced. The only thing I can say is that the long shape can make it hard to zest a lemon into a bowl- I found that I had to use a plate to ensure the zest was all collected due to the Microplane being so long. However,I think this was probably down to it being the first time I'd used it- I imagine it gets easier the more you use it.All in all, I'd say the difference in quality between the microplane and other graters/zesters that I've used is very clear. Whilst being pricey, it is well worth the money.

This product is an excellent general purpose grater which I use regularly for grating parmesan, lemons, oranges, cinnamon, nutmeg, and garlic. The pros are it is very durable and seems to maintain it's sharpness well, due to the length it can grate quite quickly high volumes of, for example parmesan, and it is relatively easy to clean as it is easier to access and wash than a box-style grater, and as it is narrow it is easy to store in a drawer. The only real cons are that if grating over a tall bowl the end cannot be rested on the worktop so it hovers above the bowl which when grating larger volumes can get a bit messy and drying it is tricky as it is a fine grater towels tend to catch on itbut overall it is by far the best made and most general purpose grater I have used and so highly recommend it.

This plane takes the hard work out of usually fiddly things to zest or grate! It reduces garlic and ginger to a pulp, seats with ease (even older citrus fruits) It's not easy to clean by hand, but comes out pristine from the dish washer. However, I have dropped one star because it's extremely sharp in places it shouldn't be! When you grate, some of the pulp gets stuck on the back of the plane behind 2 lips that run the length of the blade. It is just wide enough to run your finger down the channel to remove the pulp. DON'T! The edges of the lip are very sharp and I gave myself a nasty cut. I will use a teaspoon handle in future! Also, the cover for the plane is rather fiddly to put back on.All in all I eould recommend this but mind your fingers!

I had wanted one of these graters for some time now, but couldn't justify that price just for a grater, i got Amazon vouchers for christmas, so thought i'd treat myself, it was ordered and despatched on boxing day and i received it the next day! Well i've just used it for the first time, and all i can say is OMG!!! I would honestly pay double what i did pay, it just glided over a couple of oranges with such ease, and the orange peel was grated nice and small instead of long thick pieces i've had with my normal box grater, i didn't even have to really press hard, it honestly just glided over the oranges. I'm now making another batch of chocolate orange macarons, and can't wait to taste the difference!DON'T DELAY, BUY ONE, YOU WON'T REGRET IT!

Think it's fair to say this is our favourite kitchen item! I bought this a few years ago, after seeing it as a recommended item in Tom Kerridge's cookbook.Yes it's quite dear as graters go, but you won't regret it! We cook everyday and it's stood the test of time. It's easy to use for zesting lemons/limes/oranges, grating nutmeg/Parmesan/chocolate/garlic/ginger etc. I find that there's less waste as you can really get into all the grooves when zesting, and access any leftover items underneath the grater. It's easy to clean and store (with a handy cover so you don't accidentally cut yourself)We've had friends use ours and they've been impressed and invested in one. There's also a wide variety of colours available.Brilliant item!

Many of the recipes I have been trying are American & require a microplane or rasp as they are called in the US. Having once lived in the US for many years I was used to this kitchen utensil but found it somewhat difficult getting one in the UK. When I saw the price I thought it was expensive but decided I needed it. Forget the price, its worth every penny! Forget using a grater to get lemon or lime rind and taking way too much time to get even a teaspoon full. This gadget is incredible, it takes seconds. If you are not particular about the colour of the handle you can pay less. This red one was the least expensive.Every kitchen should have one of these you will have your money returned by the ease of acquiring citrus rind!

I was very excited to get my brand new microplane grater. I have been reading and hearing about this for a long time now, so I decided to get one (I would say that the deal braker was the need to zest an orange for a Schiacciata alla Fiorentina. My elbow quite never recovered from that!). I am really impressed with this, it can grate almost everything: nutmeg, Parmesan cheese, chocolate, garlic, raw potatoes, raw zucchini, etc. Everything is grated to perfection and with a minimal amount of strength, and the final result is nothing short of brilliant. But I was really amazed on the ease of zesting an orange with the microplane: it was never this easy.An excellent buy that you will never regret !

Agreeing with some other reviews yes, this zester is expensive but as the saying goes 'You only get what you pay for' and believe me this is worth every penny. We bought it from Online Catering Supplies of Northampton for £14.14 plus delivery. It is well made, strong metal, doesn't bend and has a very comfortable rubber grip handle. It can be used by either, rubbing the fruit etc, over the zester or rubbing the zester over the fruit, by doing the latter you can be more accurate where you zest. It comes with a strong plastic sleeve to protect the zester and your fingers while it is being stored. To anyone who is thinking about buying a zester, seriously think about this one.

Like so many others I had persistently avoided anything that included zest. At some point I did have one of those little claw thingies with five scrapers or rings at the end, but they simply aren't sharp. You either get nothing (or an absurdly thin scraping, not enough to scent a stamp), or they dig in and you get a few fat curls of pith-backed zest that need manual chopping afterwards. Not so with the microplane. Razor sharp and with a dozen or two tiny, angled, plane-like blades in contact with the surface at all times, you can shave a lemon in 30 seconds. BTW, it's a lot bigger than what I thought it would be, it's like a full-size woodworking file. Excellent.

I bought this as I needed something which could zest lemons, limes, oranges etc. The tiny holes on one of the sides of my box grater wasn't working - it would get too much of the pith and would be a pain to clean up.This zester has proven perfect for zesting and manages to take the zest off easily and quickly, without getting the pith. It's also really easy to clean and doesn't have zest stuck inside it. It comes with a plastic sheath too, so there's no danger of catching yourself on it when it's put away.Although I bought it with zesting in mind, I've used it for grating parmesan too, and it does an excellent job of it.

This knocks the spots off a ‘normal’ grater and it just rips through the job.So far, only tested on citrus, but I have no doubt it will eat nutmeg for brekkie, and be brilliant for shaving most other dried goods. I’m keen to try it out on air-dried meat. BTW - the resultant granules make a fantastic sprinkle for salads etc.Be warned - it is as sharp as a surgeons scalpel, so treat with respect, wash it well (I used a new toothbrush) and afterit’s dry, put it back in the sheath. No nasty unexpected bites when you put your hand in the cutlery drawer ...Now looking for a broader version of the same thing ??
