I’ve had this grater precisely 2 hours, so I promise to update my review if things go downhill over the coming months! However, first impressions count, so here goes...This is a blooming lovely grater! Seriously, the difference between this and my old grater, that has served me well for a few years but in reality gave up the ghost ages ago, is like chalk and cheese. The sturdiness is obvious as soon as you pick it up and the microplane blade is terrific. I’ve only tried it on a few bits and pieces of veg but I’m delighted with the results, giving what I’d describe as ‘fine’ gratings. As other reviewers have said, microplane offer such a wide range of blades, you need to be mindful of this when selecting the best for your needs.A couple of other things that might help new buyers. Firstly, the plastic cover it comes with is worth keeping and using to keep things safe in your utensil drawer (if you use such a thing). No need to take any stickers off this, as it’s probably quite useful to see which grater is which courseness, if you have several. As for the sticker on the back of the blade, well I’d been dreading removing it, due to the number of reviewers who’ve really struggled. I was all ready to soak it in olive oil overnight but just thought I’d have a little tug at one corner. Oh my goodness! It came straight off! What an anticlimax! ?. Maybe microplane have changed the adhesive? Whatever, it was dead easy to remove, leaving zero residue.Anyway, as I said, I’ll update if this doesn’t live up to extended use but for now, I’m pretty delighted with what I’ve bought. Mind you, for this price, I should be!

I have futilely rubbed blocks of cheese against graters that look like this grater before, bending the little 'blades' and then putting on too much pressure and busting the grater itself. Followed by wondering who they hell decided this was a better way to cut the teeth into a grater than the classic 'slip and grate some skin' graters. Maybe the nanny state just got carried away and decided graters were just too dangerous for our delicate millennial skin...But, as is often the case these days, it seems that these graters actually do work when they aren't cheap pieces of rubbish made to fit a mass market cost and not to do the job they are designed to do to a decent standard.Anyway, with that preamble over it just leaves this to say - this grater is well made, doesn't feel like its going to break and grates cheese into lovely little light flakes at a very quick rate. As it's an open design its very easy to scrape off anything left on the grater and very easy to clean. The blades must be sharp as they cut well but you can grate everything away until you are rubbing firmly on the surface with your fingers and it feel in no way as if you will be able to cut them at all.It can be hard finding kitchen gadgets that deserve their price, there are so many that are artificially inflated, the same product you can buy for 1/4 of the price with more brand marketing. This just isn't one of them, it is quite easily the best grater I have used and well worth the extra few pounds.

It works very well, as expected, but as others have mentioned, no way in hell is it coarse. It's medium at best. Or, if compared to my box grater, fine. Which is why it's lost a star.If I could address a couple of gripes:-The stickers are easily removed. It's cold today, and naturally they were firmly stuck, but waiting until it came up to room temperature meant they peeled off easily, without tearing. It also helps to get a good initial grip if you don't bite your nails. As for the plastic cover, it can be easily popped of with your thumbs (pressing the top and bottom lugs on the same side simultaneously), and popped back on the same way. I really don't know what the fuss is about. And before anyone says "Yes, but I have arthritic hands," so do I.

I never thought I would be enthusiastic about a grater but this is so much better than any I have ever used before. It feels very comfortable in the hand and is so sharp that cheese just glides off with very little pressure. Harder foods like carrots are also easy to grate. It's simple to use and easy to clean. I've always had the multi purpose type of grater before which has several graters in a sort of pyramid shape and they're not great fun to clean.Don't get carried away and grate your fingers though. I suspect it would be easy to do this if you had a lapse of concentration. But for small jobs where you don't want the hassle of getting out the food processor, this is ideal.

I would describe this as more of a medium than a coarse grater. I have a three piece set of Microplane fine, medium and coarse hand graters. I snapped the handle of the coarse on and bought this to replace, but it is virtually identical to the shreds produced by the surviving medium grater. I returned it and ordered the extra coarse grater which was more like the size shreds I wanted.Microplane are excellent quality tools and very, very sharp with good longevity in general.

I have been using for 4 months and it's still brand new (dishwasher). But indeed removing the leftover glue from the sticker on the back took a couple of months of washes/scrubbing...Someone says it's fine and not coarse. I can agree but you need to understand that the item does not grate, it finely slices food. If you grate a courgette, the outcome looks like a soft blob but in fact it's a pile of very fine slices of courgette! Overall I am very pleased.

Bought this product as my fine grater (plastic) was still in one piece. After a couple of weeks the plastic one decided to develop multitude of cracks and decided one weekend - the end. As this item was working so well, I went and bought the Gourmet Fine also from Amazon. Cannot fault either and would seriously say "never buy a plastic grater again" Only gave a 4 mark, as I have not tested it on a great range of things. However, things look really good.

This is an amazing grater!! After buying cheap graters and having them rust after a while i decided to upgrade my grater. These microplanes are pretty good! They are comfortable to use, easy to clean and are very sharp. Watch your fingers when your close because you wont even notice it slicing you.. Effortless grating with style. I would say if you like your grated cheese chunky and easy to handle go for the Extra Coarse model.

Yes, spending £20 odd on a grater does seem decadent doesn't it? Well if I'd bought one like this 25 years ago I wouldn't have wasted a stack of cash on useless graters that make grating a real task. Since getting a Microplane grater I only cook things that need something grating. Or I'll just grate stuff for fun. You can grate sponges with this, and cat biscuits. I make an effort to find new things to grate. Its great.

Have had a few graters and this one is the bees knees.,it feels totally safe in your hands, not going to slip and take some skin off your knuckles. It gives whatever you are grating a lovely texture. I would definitely recommend this grater it is a pleasure to use. From cheese to spices, nuts whatever you need it does it so easily. Definitely a good investment. I wish I had found it years ago.

I have a few micrograters, but was missing a coarse one. These are indispensable pieces of kit for home cooks of all skill levels - Get one of these and chuck away that old box grater - your fingers will thank you for it!Ask a chef what cooking gear they would take on a self-catering holiday with them; micrograters would be on every list :)Sturdy bit of kit - very happy with it.

Very nice product very well made and sturdy unlike so many others. It’s a bit fiddly to clean if you are grating ginger but that’s to be expectedI have used a lot of these as I love cooking but they have all buckled or worn outThis one is still going as strong as the day I got it.It’s more expensive but you get what you pay for, quality.

The original.. and best! Excellent hand grater, feels very sturdy and I have no doubt that it'll last for ages. If I had to nit pick, I'd say that the only annoyance I did have was removing the stickers from the back of the grater! They left an annoying sticky residue which is pretty hard to get off of a sharp perforated surface!

I bought this to replace my old one as the plastic frame had cracked so many times I needed a metal frame for the blade. It's great, the only problem I have is getting the plastic cover back on hence the 4 stars not 5. The old one just used to slide over the blade, but the metal frame gets in the way....or is it just me?

I believe many professional chefs rave about these graters and it's easy to see why. Very good build quality, excellent at doing the job and very sharp. The blade protector supplied with it is also very useful. Good product and at a good price from Amazon with their usual good service.
