My current grater has got so blunt that using it for aged rock-hard Parmesan is a real chore. So I had to find a replacement. I restricted my search to the MICROPLANE brand because I already own their foot grater, which does a fantastic job removing dead skin from my heels. However I did not fancy also using it for cheese! Some other reviewers have complained about the difficulty of removing labels, but mine came off easily; presumably themanufacturer has noted the problem and changed the adhesive.Although it is classified coarse grade, when I tested it on my rock-hard Parmesan it produced perfectly satisfactory cheese to sprinkle on my spaghetti.I also tried it with the Norwegian cheese "Jarlsberg" which is tasty but a bit rubbery in texture. Again the result was perfect for sprinkling. Finally, another point in its favour. It comes with a plastic shield to use for storage. I can put it into my utensils drawer without danger to fingers.

There's no question that this is a nice grater. The stainless steel handle give is a sturdy feel, and the cutting blades are extremely sharp making it much easier and safer to use than some similar looking John Lewis graters I had previously. The only thing is that even though this grater describes itself as a coarse grater, it's much finer than I was expecting. I will be getting the other two graters in this range (super coarse and fine) - hopefully the super coarse will satisfy my wish for fatter bits of grated carrot, but I can't conceive of how fine the fine might be if it's finer than this one!

This replaced a grater from the same US manufacturer, which was a budget product and of which the plastic handle subsequently broke. However, the cutter is as sharp as the day we purchased it and that encouraged us to seek out a similar product from the same manufacturer. There was only one feature which wrong footed us that being the stainless handle is slightly flattened presumably to enhance the grip.As the postie manhandled the package through the letterbox we thought that the product had been damaged; not so. This product is highly recommended and it will no doubt gives years of service.

I echo all the other positive comments about the effectiveness, design and washability of this grater. Grates brilliantly with very little effort on the user's part. The only gripe I have - and this is mainly my own fault, for not checking properly before I bought - is that the holes are actually quite large, despite the 'micro' tag, which is what led me to believe it would be suitable for fine grating, such as for parmesan, ginger, lemon zest, etc. Of course, it can be used to grate all of those things but instead of hair's-breadth shavings you get shavings of around 1mm thick.

Upgraded to the Microplane Professional range having used the plastic models for years until the frames started to crack. These stainless steel models are comfortable to use, easy to clean in the dishwasher and lighter than expected. If you're hesitating over the "add to basket" button, just do it - no regrets here.

A really good grater and very easy to use. Works particularly well clipped over a bowl. One star knocked off purely because the price seems high but this grater us built to last, so I'd still recommend it over and above a cheap-&-cheerful alternative that may blunt and rust if used regularly.

If you have not used micro-plane before, you are in for a treat. It makes grating cheese and anything else really easy - it just glides through! This says that it is a coarse grater, but with cheddar cheese it comes out very fine - it may be more obviously coarse with hard vegetables.

I love these and only bought a new one when my old one finally wasn't sharp enough - but that was after many years of heavy use. Fab for grating nutmeg, parmesan, ginger or whatever although I do use it with the finger guard attachment sometimes to avoid grating my fingers or nails.

I have tried other graters over the years and without doubt the Microplane professional range are the best - I can grate Parmesan effortlessly and it cleans easily - note I don't dishwash because it dulls the blades over time.

Think there is widespread approval for these graters. Makes light work of parmesan which was exactly what I bought it for. Only takes a second to wash up, and doubt you'll find a better grater for your money.

I can't believe how good these graters are, they help to make cooking a doddle. I've been faffing around with a rubbish grater for years. This grater is something else.

First SS microplanes after having used plastic ones for years. One of the most used gadgets in our kitchen! Never use the awkward-to-clean garlic crashed again ?

I've used it for few months already. It's just great, safe and very easy to clean.I've also got the Microplane professional slider that is very handy as well.

Microplane graters are well worth the extra cash. Solidly made and do exactly what they are supposed to do. Have bought other sizes. Pleased with them all.

This was a gift as I alrteady own one and use it for parmesan/ pecorino and occasionally cheddar- however for cheddar this size of blade is a bit fine.
