I waited with anticipation for this item to arrive and it did not disappoint, it was larger than I expected, but then it would need to be if using it for potatoes etc. so I shouldnt really have been surprised. As I haven't had it very long so far I have only used it for potatoes and mashing (ricing) carrots & swede together. It works brilliantly for potatoes, is very easy to use and produces very fluffty, lump-free "mash" everytime, I found it was easier to add any butter/milk and fluff up with a fork afterwards. The carrots and swede were not quite so successful as swede holds quite a lot of liquid naturally so they ended up quite sloppy so I wouldnt recommend it be used for that.It is a little messy to use but once you get into the swing of it its not too bad, just be patient, take your time and don't put too many pieces in the container at once and "rice" it into a big bowl, scrapping off the excess manually. There is no doubt that getting the good old fashioned potato masher out is quicker and probably less messy but this really does produce far better quality mash so as far as I am concerned I will be using it far more often than my masher.

I finally became tired of lumpy mashed potato despite trying several different mashers over the years including the “Spudnik”, which was ok for standard potatoes, but not so good at mashing more fibrous sweet potatoes, and therefore decided to buy a ricer.I chose the Metaltex ricer after reading the reviews on Amazon, and also because of the reasonable price. I used it for the first time the other day when making a cottage pie with a sweet & white potato topping. The ricer comes with three interchangeable discs, and I used the coarsest of the three and am pleased to say that it resulted in perfect lump free mash which was very quick to make.As the discs are removable it means that they are very easy to clean,as is the ricer itself. The only slight downside is the size as it is quite large in both length and diameter and only just about fits in my utensil draw.I would definitely recommend the Metaltex ricer to others, and am very glad that I bought it.

I've had one of these for many years and use it at least once a week for making mashed potatoes. I pass pre-cooked potatoes through the finest mesh (you get three ricer plates with different sizes of hole) and then add hot milk, butter and a little salt and whiz up with a hand-held mixer. Result: lovely fluffy mash, unlike using a food processor which results in a gluey paste. The ricer is particularly useful for producing mashed swede or parsnip, both of which can be a bit fibrous at the end of the season, but by passing the cooked vegetable through the ricer all the fibers are trapped on the disk. The ricer has a projection on one side that holds the device steady over a bowl and, after use,is very easy to clean unlike some food mills. The handles are comfortable to use: altogether a simple but very useful device that doesn't take up much space in a drawer.

Its not often you find something that makes basic food taste so much better; quite shocked at how much nicer mash is made with this rather than a 'normal masher'; it takes half the time too.I dont try to squeeze the handles together as if its a huge garlic press....I sit it over the pan I cooked the potatoes in ans ladle them in to it from the colander, just use the top handle as a lever. It is huge, but it has to be to get through squashing potatoes fast!Washing it is easy, especially if you take it apart as soon as you are finished(which takes seconds).

Got this to try out for potatoes. Its fantastic. It makes the potatoes so creamy and if your potatoes ate a bit stringy this does the job to make them taste much better. My only tiny criticism is that it can be hard to take out the plastic insert after using it but it's just a matter of twisting it and taking it out. My husband doesn't find this to be a problem though. Would definitely recommend for lovely creamy mash.

Easier and faster than a potato masher, and smoother mash. Easy to take apart and clean, varying sizes of grate. I got rid of my food processor after getting this. Its a little less robust than I'd like at the handle, there's no way I'd let my hamfisted husband use this. But good value for the money. If you are clumsy and really strong or will use this in a pro kitchen buy an all metal one though.

When this arrived, I was surprised at how large it was overall but with a comparatively small amount of room for the potatoes. However, now that I have used it a few times, I am getting used to it and it is definitely more comfortable for my arthritic hands than using an ordinary potato masher. I suppose it is like anything - practice makes perfect and I am very glad that I bought it.

Was a bit wary of purchasing this potato ricer as I was more tempted by the stainless steel ones, which I thought would probably more reliable. But in actual fact the ABS material is more than adequately strong, and the handles are long so you do not need terrible strength to use it. Perfectly happy with the mashed potatoes made with this ricer and highly recommended.

This is fantastic, if your mashed potatoes are a little unreliable like my own (without the use of this wonderful kitchen gadget) and if you would like lovely creamy, light and soft mashed potatoes every time then buy one. This is larger than normal and I am really glad I went for one this size. It's really easy to clean too. What more can I say?

A lot of gadgets get left to gather dust, this will not be one of them. I do pride myself on the quality of my creamed spud and have to say that the ricer has not improved it.What it has done though is reduce the effort needed to produce really smooth mash by 90% and stopped the potato masher handle trying to carve its way through my palm.

Have used this quite a while now and it is still good as new. Does the job very well - Bangers & Mash better (and a lot easier) than ever before! The only issue I have had is cleaning in the tight spaces under the handles, which are hollow to save weight. I had to resort to a drop of bleach to get at them, but that did the job.

I like this item. It's not the cheapest but it comes with 3x disk and is pretty well-made.Easy to clean.I really wanted it so that I could make murukku and sev. Well it does this OK and I do expect that it will rice potato as well ! Nice one.{27Mar2013:} Excellent with potato as well! I wish I had bought one years ago ..

This is a must for every kitchen. This is a sturdy piece of equipment and so easy to use. It can be used for pressing other foods as well as potatoes. Make yourself a quick smoothie, throw in whatever soft fruits you have, banana, grapes berries or even fruit from a tin. It is so versatile, I recommend this item highly.

Arrived early and was well packaged. This is a great bit of kit and takes away the risk of lumps in mashed potato. It has to be fully dismantled for cleaning and I tend to wash it in the sink rather than the dishwasher...but I see no reason it couldn't go in the machine. It's easy to use and gives perfect results.

This is brilliant, I can't believe that I didn't order one sooner. It has three great attachments depending how fine or coarse you want your mash. The only downside I have is its size - its much larger and bulkier than I thought it would be so rather difficult storing it away. Would definately recommend though!
