After I got over my initial disappointment upon opening the packaging to discover this wasn't, in fact, a miniature aircraft, but a single-sided, fine grater with a handle, I chose to try using it in my kitchen instead of immediately requesting a refund.I have to say that this thing is WOW in the kitchen! I zest citrus fruit now, and put it in everything! Lemon zest on my cornflakes, who knew what a citrusy zing that would give me in the morning! Well, given I'm writing this during quarantine, morning, afternoon, evening... whenever... Orange zest sprinkled over my marmalade on toast; A line of lime zest with my tequila... this thing is amazing! And it does more than just citrus fruit!I now have really finely grated garlic on basically everything! Beans on toast with garlic! Ham sandwich with garlic! I'm even infusing some vodka with grated garlic! Although I didn't have any vodka, so it's actually tequila. And also has lime and lemon and orange zest in.I'll find more things to test it on soon enough. But it's a fantastic product. Just no good for flying tiny pilots around.

This grater is not finished to the same high standard that I am used to from rival companies like Rösle and Kuhn Rikon: the edge where the perforated grater sheet joins the steel wire frame is rather rough. That's mostly a cosmetic problem though (unless, like me, you hate tea towels snagging on your utensils) as the functionality of this efficient tool is not affected. I think it will take some practice to find exactly the right kind of pressure, and how strongly one has to hold small items in order not to slip against the resistance of the grater. But all in all I am impressed. It took some elbow grease to take the sticker off the acrylic guard, but I managed it by taking it off with washing-up liquid first, and then soaking the residue with a kitchen paper drenched in vegetable oil. No idea why they make it so difficult to take the paper sticker off a part that needs to be cleaned regularly.

This Microplane is so much better than the cheaper wannabe versions - you can feel the quality of manufacture and the blade is amazing. However - for zesting lemons/limes etc (which is mainly what I wanted this for) the 'Fine' version is, in my opinion, too fine - what you get is lemon zest paste / pulp, rather than actual grated lemon zest. It's just about OK for parmesan, but again, what you get is very fine parmesan "snow", much finer than what you get from a 'normal' fine cheese grater. I'd think this grater would be better for hard stuff like nutmeg. I wouldn't even bother trying it with ginger, or carrots. Lovely item though - it's just that I think I'll now be also buying a "Medium".I've attached a picture of the Microplane next to my regular fine grater, which I normally use for lemons and cheese, just for comparison. Hope this review is useful.

I was looking forward to receiving the Microplane Fine Grater and I haven't been disappointed. Naturally as I've only had it a couple of weeks I cannot comment on its longevity but after reading others' reviews I decided to buy the metal handle rather than the plastic one that some people had complained had cracked, my metal one seems fine and I can't really imagine it breaking in the future. I know some people think this is a lot for a grater but I think it was totally worth it! I had no idea zesting was so easy. Some people say that it's too fine for parmesan but I make a few sauces with parmesan and it grates the perfect size for melting in.As for washing,I don't have a dishwasher so I couldn't comment on that but it is very easy to wash up, more so than normal graters. It arrived in time and well packaged.Full marks!

Micro plane are THE best graters in the world as far as I am concerned. I have a couple already & they are still going strong (&serioisly sharp) after many, many years. I bought my new fine grater to grate Parmesan cheese & to zest citrus fruits. On lemons & limes you get all the god stuff (rind) without any of the bitter pity included. This fin grater replace a fine grater I had stupidly bought a while ago because it was cheaper. What a mistake!!! The cheaper gtater (although not totally blunt) has sunken in slightly where it gets most wear & tear, rendering it useless, nothing touches the blades properly now. I should have stayed with Microplane all along. Won't make that mistake again.I like that Microplane have a safety cover over the blades. It's simply brilliant.

My previous 2 microplanes both had plastic surrounds, and did not enjoy a long and useful life, as the plastic snapps at the base of the handle. This one has a metal frame - job done. What I was not expecting was that the grater on this seems so much sharper than my old ones - grating parmesan is effortless leaving the finest gratings possible.Update: Well after a year's use I have noticed that the little blades that make up the grater are slowly getting flattened with the result that things are taking progressively longer to grate, and the grated material is getting finer and finer. This is not a problem for zesting citrus fruit or grating nutmegs, but a block of parmesan cheese takes forever.I have therefore removed one star from my original rating.

You might think that this is a lot of money for a grater... you'd be right, but I'd still pay it. Once you've used this style of grater you really won't want to go back to anything else.I'd thoroughly recommend all-metal ones like this over the plastic-handled variety: our previous plastic ones crazed, cracked and broke around the cutting blade, which obviously brought them to a premature bin. But this stainless steel version just works and seems far less likely to ever do anything other than convert lumps of something into shards of the same something.Parmesan, chocolate, anything that's basically hard and in need of conversion to something approaching dust - it eats it all.

Bought this as a present for my mother for christmas and I can't recommend it enough! I've wanted one myself for years and all the top chefs use them (and for good reason too!) Normally items like small clementines can't really be grated on normal graters without turning the orange into mush but this micro-grater makes light work of it! Everything is a breeze to grate and the product handily collects it all underneath for you to scrap off. It is also dishwasher safe and comes with a safety plastic case which is needed as it is very sharp! If you're going to buy any of the range buy this one as its the most useful!

An excellent product, sturdy and strong. Each grate hole is about one eighth of an inch across and slightly less tall, which makes it fine for garlic, parmesan, nutmeg etc. It has a rubber bit on the bottom that curls round the grater which means that you can grate it horizontally straight into the pan, or if you want to grate vertically the rubber holds it still on the surface. It's really sharp and would recommend it to anyone. If you are looking for an ordinary cheese grater size, then it is the super coarse that I would recommend (see reviews on there.)

My Wife read about these so, being curious souls we ordered one.We are so glad we did! This is not just another kitchen gadget, it is a precision tool.First test was with Parmesan cheese and my Wife was delighted, the gratings are fine and sprinkled perfectly.Next I grated fresh ginger straight into a silicone ice cube tray and froze it - just right for soups and when defrosted, for stir frying. As graters go, this may seem expensive but make no mistake, this is truly top quality.Easy to clean but very sharp so treat it with respect!

This grater has proven to be a very useful addition to my kitchen since I bought it a few years ago. It produces a really fine zest from citrus fruits, or a fine crumb from parmesan cheese - just right. It's all metal construction means it can withstand daily use and mine usually goes into the dishwasher for cleaning although it is easy to hand wash as well. The nonslip band on the base really does help with stability when grating, reducing the time taken to complete each task. It is the best grater I have used for 'fine' results.

I agree, it's not cheap. But worth every penny because it's simply indestructible, very easy to position/use and in a class of its own where sharpness is concerned. I purchased this model first because I was sceptical about price/performance. Now I own 4 of their products (only the solid metal ones though, no experience with the graters which are cased in plastic) and gave away my old graters/rasps, the difference is so large that it's an embarrassment. Watch your fingers.

This is a great grater and I am pleased with my purchase but I will now have to buy another one.The reason is that I was unsure whether to get the coarse grater or this fine one and I opted for the fine one.Now the fine grater is great for grating things finely such as Parmesan and the results are great and very fine but for a lot of other things it is too fine.Think of your usage and buy accordingly or just buy both the coarse and the fine and you will be fine.

My last Microplane fell apart after about 20 years of use. Had I not regularly put it in the dishwasher I think it would have outlived me! I replaced it by one recommended by Amazon which was half the price of the branded Microplane and thought I was getting a bargain. Sadly not the case as nothing compares to the genuine article. These Microplanes are brilliantly sharp and do a perfect job. Don’t waste money buying cheaper items or like me you’ll regret it.

I have bought several Microplane graters, some with a plastic rather than metal frame-all have broken and I DO not suggest that you buy them; although the metal surround graters are more expensive, they just don't break and therefore are much better value. Fantastic for grating garlic (you will never crush a clove again) ginger, citrus zest and Parmesan cheese. Can't believe that these aren't readily available to buy in shops.
