Just to advise that the Verified Purchase label may show correctly against this review alongside the Vine label as in addition to receiving a set to review I have also purchased a further set as a gift for a family member. This is a fantastic set and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it or give it a higher marking than 5 stars if possible.I am a huge fan of both Lego and Harry Potter/Fantastic Beasts and this is one of my favourite builds out of the new sets released. Usually a lot of the Lego I buy is for my Children but I mainly built this set by myself apart from a little help from my Daughter and it was such a lovely build and looks fantastic when finished. If I had to give one minor niggle it would be that they didn't double or treble the size of the briefcase so that the animals could fit inside and it could close with them all inside as whilst it is a decent size only the figures and teeny Niffler fit when closed.Age Suitability:-This set is aimed at children between 8 and 14 years old and it does have a few slightly more difficult areas of the build but it is mainly quite straightforward and obviously also suitable for older adults to build too.Size:-I have measured the case and when closed it measures 17cm x 13cm x 5cm.Build Bags etc:-This is a medium sized set and has 694 pieces with some small spares. The set has two easy to follow step by step instruction booklets and four main build bags along with a small separate bag containing one of the Thunderbird's wings. There is also a small sticker sheet with some stickers to apply.Figures:-The set comes with Newt Scamander, Tina Goldstein, Jacob Kowalski and Queenie Goldstein figures. Jacob has a double sided head and either a hairpiece or a helmet to wear and the other three figures all have double sided heads so that you can change their facial expressions too. There is also a teeny Niffler figure, a buildable Thunderbird, buildable Erumpent and buildable Occamy animal to build along with a green stalk to represent a Bowtruckle.Features:-The briefcase can be opened out to enable better play and has featured areas for the Niffler, Bowtruckle, Thunderbird, Erumpent and Occamy such as the twig to place the Bowtruckle or the little Gold pile for the Niffler to sit on. There is also a small central hut which has a roof that can be opened and a ladder that can be lifted to allow role play for the figures descending into the case like in the film. The buildable animals are fantastic and great fun to build and actually resemble the on-screen animals but the real star of the show for my Children and I is of course the teeny Niffler.A fantastic set, lovely build and tons of play value too and a very very easy 5 stars as I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this set. I shall try to add some photos in the next week or so to the review.

My daughter built this LEGO set and found it pretty enjoyable, although there were some tedious moments when working on the case as both the sides were very similar in construction so you were doing the same thing twice. The instructions were clear and all the pieces were there, with some spare in case you lost any. It comes with the now usual brick separator in case you do something wrong and need a hand taking it apart. She felt that it was quite a clever set, both in the way it’s built and how it can be displayed in different ways – you can have the case closed or open, and when open you can fold out the sides if you want to. She wasn’t as impressed with this set as she was with the Harry Potter sets she’s built, but that may be more to do with not having watched Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them (yet). You get 4 minifigures in this set, which is a good amount for a kit in this price range. The magical creatures are fun to build and play with. Her favourite is the Thunderbird that can perch on LEGO objects. It’s actually currently perched on part of Hogwarts from the Whomping Willow set! Characters can also ride on the Thunderbird too. She felt that the order of the building could have been improved by putting the creatures in between building parts of the case. She felt that building the creatures was more fun, so it could have made the case building less tedious if there was a break to build a creature. This is a cheaper set than the others in the range and has a bit less to it, as you’d expect, but still a good set for the money as LEGO goes.

This set is bordering on a work of genius. Once fully built and closed up, it resembles Newt's case from the Fantastic Beasts movies, but then opens up into a recreation of the magical interior of the case, complete with a shelter, nest and a number of accessories. On top of all of this there are three buildable beasts, including the awesome Thunderbird. These are all quite well scaled against the minifigures so they can interact well. Speaking of the minifigures, these feature the four leads from the first Fantastic Beasts movie: Newt, Jacob, Tina & Queenie. These are all nicely details and bear a decent resemblance to their big screen counterparts.Putting the whole thing together is quite straightforward and it's great to see the case taking shape around its component parts. The mechanisms used to achieve this are strong and stand up to play really well. As there is a good amount of intricate detail and a number of accessories, there is an element of fragility to the set, so be warned if purchasing this for a younger builder. For (currently) £36, it's good value for a licensed Harry Potter product and is one of the best sets to come out of the Fantastic Beasts LEGO line. It's a must have for your Wizarding World collection.

Having remembered (and had much of) the first round of Lego Harry Potter, excitement was definitely the word to describe the anticipation of receiving these new sets. While I wasn't the greatest advocate of the Fantastic Beasts movie when I saw it, this looked a nice interpretation and one I'd give some time to build. As a complete set, this turned out to be a pretty interesting to build. There are simpler elements in the beasts then the larger case which come together well to form a set you can build easily and in stages. Four minifigures, with reversible heads and a range of accessories complete the set while the suitcase element is probably undersold in the pictures, the way it fits together then folds out really is quite neat. In terms of bricks, there are shapes, sizes and colours that I haven't seen before that people may be interested in getting the whole set just to acquire.Overall therefore, there's plenty to like in this version of the Fantastic Beasts suitcase - probably more for me than in the film. Some innovative design, interesting shapes and colours and great scenes in the minifigures come together to form a great overall set.

Yes, I went there! LOL! This set comes with 2 manuals and a sticker sheet,694 pieces in 5 bags including 4 mini-figures. While the build techniques of this set were fairly basic and simple it is very clever how the whole thing folds up to look like a suitcase. The Blue dragon is quite weak and the underside of it looks a little odd, but it does have a moveable tail and wings. The Gold dragon is much better, with moveable legs, claws, and wings. The Rhino is OK but it is a bit too blocky looking and simplistic. It comes with moveable legs and head. The 4 mini-figures come with interchangeable hat/hair, and they all have 2 faces. The little Niffler is cute and for those who just want this set for the bricks then it would make a good mole!Overall it is a very good set if you are into Harry Potter, but also worth it just for the various bricks and mini-figure accessories!

Lego have just released a new series of Harry Potter sets from across all the films; this one represents the most recent outing, Fantastc Beasts and Where to Find Them. It comes with three of the 'fantastic beasts' plus four minifigures, but the main part of the set is a rather neat model of Newt's suitcase which opens up into a playset with great attention to detail. Lego isn't cheap but I thought this set wasn't too bad for the price considering what you get. Suitable for children of about 8 and upwards; younger kids may need some adult assistance with the more fiddly parts and placing the stickers. Our little Harry Potter fan was delighted - you can't ask for more than that.

I love Lego and when myself and the boys got together we had great fun with this one. Lots of pieces and some instructions to help us on our way. The boys are so used to these sets and as they are Harry Potter fans and Mythical Beast fans, they soon got into it. The box arrived a little dented in the corner (postal issue), but luckily no beasts were harmed. We laid everything out first to check it was all there and I must admit I do like the figures, as we never had them when I grew up with Lego. Now they've got this set they want some more to go with it!

Fantastic Beasts is one of my favourite movies, if not THE favourite movie. This set was on sale so I decided to get it as a Christmas present to myself. It’s amazing. It comes with four different Fantastic Beasts, four different characters from the movie (Jacob has hair that can change and all the characters have faces that can change with little details like wands and umbrellas) and you can see where Newt works which also folds into his briefcase. It’s so detailed and amazing quality. By far my favourite addition to my Lego collection.

I'm 25, so not exactly the target market for these lego sets, but I LOVE Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts so just knew I had to get some of the new sets! This is the first set I've built in a really long time, but I ended up having a ball, it was so fun seeing it all come together.I love how innovative they've been with this set, it actually folds down into Newt's suitcase and then opens all up and extends. The little details are amazing too, there's even a little picture of Leta Lestrange! The little Niffler is also SO CUTE!

I often think that Lego is a rip off, but you actually get quite a bit for your money with this set. 3 Fantastic Beasts to build and the briefcase playset itself, along with 4 mini figs and teeny tiny little niffler.Would have been better if the case was big enough to store the Beasts inside when closed.

28.12.2018

This set has been thoroughly enjoyed by my 10 year old Harry Potter mad son. It has lots of great details, including the case which opens and closes. I have deducted a star as I think it would be perfect it all of the fantastic beasts that come with it could be enclosed in the case when it is closed.

This was so much fun to make! I love lego, and treated myself to this to build over an evening. It was great fun and very entertaining, not too difficult or anything but took up my evening and was really pleased with the finished product which looks really cute!

My 10 year old grandson loved the detail in this. He’s an expert Lego builder and it took him a while to build, so I wouldn’t say it was easy to assemble. The only downside was the size of the case- smaller than expected-, otherwise he loved it!

29.12.2018

Bought as Christmas present for our Harry Potter/Fantastic Beasts fan, bought as an extra last minute present and she was thrilled. The only downside is the very small pieces which if dropped are hard to find . She kept hers in a pasta bowl.

30.7.2019

This set is 100% value for money! Bought as a gift for my 8 year old who is a massive fan of the films. He needed no help to build. I'm so impressed by the amount of beasts and characters included in the set. It is a treasured playset!
