I played with Lego when I was a child - I'm now 58 - and my sons (both into their third and fourth decades) played with Lego too. Now it's the turn of our 8 year old grandson. Lego doesn't need me to confirm how good it is, it's always been a brilliant toy. I could have given a five star review before the box even arrived. A toy which turns into other toys! In theory you buy it once, and that's all you ever need. Which is what, I think, was Lego's problem, and what must have prompted them to change their strategy. Let me explain.It used to be that you'd buy a box of Lego, and it would contain all the bits you'd need to make models. Maybe you'd then buy another box, or a bigger box,and you could make more (or just larger) models. Then you'd buy a big plastic tub and tip the lot into it. At that point you were done and you didn't need any more Lego, and that must have given Lego a bit of a headache. How do we sell those people more sets? The answer - make the sets specific. Make them so that when you bought them, all you could really do was make the models(s) that were pictured on the front, and that way you'd have to go out and buy more and more if you wanted to carry on playing.I know somebody who has a garage full of see-through plastic boxes, all containing completed kits. The kids won't let her take them apart, but they've finished making them and they have moved onto the next ones. Which brings me (finally!) to this set.It's excellent, as always, but you really need to make sure that the recipient wants it before you hand over a hefty sum. I'm very lucky, getting this to review for free. If I'd paid for it however, I would have been in for a bit of a disappointment, NOT because the toy isn't well made, bright, colourful, entertaining and all that, but because this isn't the kind of thing that our grandson would have wanted. Oh, he was more than happy to open it and play with it, but he wouldn't want it in his bedroom. No, he's more into "Lego Ninjago", and for Xmas his mum and dad bought him an equally impressive set which included figures, some sort of temple, a canon and a dragon, and he's got it on display on his shelves. He really isn't a "toy cars" kind of lad.So bear that in mind when you choose what to buy. Match it up carefully to the child who is going to be getting it, and then purchase with confidence.

THERE ARE 11 SEPARATE BAGS ( PLEASE SEE PHOTOS ), EACH CONTAINING A DIFFERENT PART OF ‘LEGO CITY’ ONE CONTAINING 6 BOOKLETS WITH STICKERS ( ALSO PHOTOGRAPHED ). EACH BOOKLET SHOWS STEP BY STEP BUILDING INSTRUCTIONS FOR THAT PARTICULAR PART OF ‘ LEGO CITY ‘ AND ALSO HAS A QR CODE FOR MORE DETAILED/CLEARER INSTRUCTIONS SHOULD YOU WISH. I THINK THE IDEA WAS TO HAVE THE NUMBER ON THE BOOKLET CORRESPOND TO THE NUMBER ON A BAG ( AS SHOWN CORRECTLY IN ONE PHOTO ), WHICH WOULD MAKE A LOT OF SENSE IF YOU ARE USING A NUMBER SYSTEM, AS ‘ LEGO ‘ APPEAR - I’M SURE YOU WOULD AGREE AFTER SEEING THE PHOTOS - TO BE DOING. HOWEVER ,AS YOU CAN SEE IN ANOTHER OF THE PHOTOS, THE PARTS FOR ONE CAR ( NUMBER 4 )WERE ACTUALLY IN A DIFFERENT NUMBERED BAG, THUS RENDERING THE WHOLE NUMBER SYSTEM A NONSENSE. WHY BOTHER WITH THE NUMBERS ON THE BOOKLETS & BAGS AT ALL IF THEY DON’T TALLY ???!! OKAY !! I MAY BE BEING A LITTLE PEDANTIC BUT I LIKE THINGS TO BE RIGHT. I ENJOYED, NO END, PUTTING THE 3 VEHICLES THAT YOU SEE, TOGETHER WITH MY GRANDSON. MEMORIES OF RECEIVING MY FIRST BIG BAG OF ‘ LEGO ‘ THAT MY MUM PICKED UP IN A MARKET, CAME FLOODING BACK, BUILDING HOUSES ETC. THE BRICKS SEEM TO BE A LITTLE THINNER, BUT THEY GRIP EVERY BIT AS GOOD. I HAVE ONLY SHOWN YOU THREE OF THE MANY VEHICLES & BUILDINGS THAT THERE ARE IN THIS ‘ LEGO CITY ‘ DELIBERATELY, AS I DIDN’T WANT TO SPOIL ANYONES SURPRISE OR ENJOYMENT, & IT IS ENJOYABLE SITTING DOWN WITH YOUR YOUNG ONE & TEACHING THEM ALL ABOUT CONSTRUCTION WHILST HAVING FUN. PERSONALLY I THINK IT IS A LITTLE EXPENSIVE BUT I GUESS THAT ‘ LEGO ‘ IS A BIG BRAND NAME THAT HAS BEEN GOING FOR DECADES, SO YOUR PAYING A LITTLE EXTRA FOR THE NAME. IT’S A GOOD PLACE TO START THOUGH ON YOUR YOUNG ONES ‘ LEGO ‘ ADVENTURE. IF THEY ENJOY IT ENOUGH, I BELIEVE THAT THERE IS ‘ LEGO TECHNIC ‘ WHICH IS MORE ADVANCED FOR THEM WHEN THEY’RE A LITTLE OLDER.

I think this is a perfect Lego set as you have the joy of making it (well I didn't but my husband did) and then there are all the figures and accessories which are great for making up and telling stories.There is even a dog that can guard the dealership and a sausage to keep the dog happy.The five year old absolutely loves this. His favourite is currently the motorcycle. The fact there are a variety of vehicles goes some way to justifying the cost. It is expensive but you get six vehicles (well, including the mobile trailer) and the figures, accessories and the garage helps to justify that.I love the way he has decided to combine this with some of Playmobil creatures and people.There was a road race through a zoo. He was so happy.The only downside is that there are a whole host of little accessories that will disappear until you find yourself standing on them with bare feet.An extremely good set.

This is the best set we've gotten recently. Both my eight-year-old son and 10-year-old daughter have enjoyed playing together when joining it to other sets they've made. The tow truck is different from any other vehicles we have and the used car salesman element is fun. The shop itself is simple but fun because it's a full building rather than the (cheap) half-buildings that have become common in Lego City sets. The moving elements on the building's roof that carry the car engine around are also a nice feature. It's perhaps $20-$30 more expensive than it really should be for what you get.

Very comprehensive set, just horribly overpriced.Lots of fun making it up, I played with my brother and his Lego a few decades ago, it's always great fun, unless you tread on a brick in bare feet! Ouch.Good instructions, stage by stage make it easy to build with some Adult help.makes a great and much appreciated present from Uncle, especially to a family with younger children as the cost of these brick is horrendous and not possibly with all those other bills.The set looks good and will allow all sorts of customisation to the vehicles, which is a major part of imaginative fun.

Upon opening this product my son was very excited. It comes with a lot of step by step instructions to work through so took us a couple of half-days to build the whole thing but it was simple to use for my 7 year old and he loved it. He enjoyed the tuning garage and the idea of changing the engine. It comes with many vehicles and people and even a cute pet dog with sausages. I would highly recommend this for any super cars and Lego fan. Keeps them entertained for hours.

My 7 year old son has really enjoyed this lego set .It was a bargain for the price and he loves the fact that it is all based on cars as he is a big car fan .In the box there is 897 pieces that will keep your child entertained for hour and they are able to operate the engine hoist and tow truck without the need of batteries .This toy is a must for any lego fan and would make an excellent gift .This item came well packaged with easy to read instructions.

Very impressed with the Lego city tunning workshop.The small packets means you can build in sections. It's a great set as it has lots of moving section's, like a jack to put the cars up, sliding doors on the garage and interchangable engines on the cars which all means that are hours of fun to be had with this set.There are 8 characters including a dog which my son is very fond of.Hours of play to be had !

The Tuning Workshop kept us busy for hours building all of its contents. I loved the attention to detail in the kit which adds to its playability; the welders helmet stands, cupboards with items inside, the engine hoist and more! This playset encourages so much imagination and creativity and my son loves to play with all the cars and garage. My favourite part is the adorable Lego dog with his kennel and food bowl!

Great set. Loads of intricate extras like a spanner, hammers, and tools, mugs for the camper van and even sausages for the dog! The towing truck and moving pulley in the workshop keeps the children amused for hours. Took about 4 hours to build, instructions were clear, although I struggled slightly with the shiny page and lights reflecting in them. Would definatley recommend.

As always good quality from Lego. This set is a great build, particularly enjoyed the variety of colours throughout, as some sets can be quite samey. Simple easy to follow instructions, also liked that although it's a larger set, details were not compromised in the vehicles, despite the quantity. Plenty of minifigures included too. This set is Good value for money.

Wow..... who knew Lego was this expensive. But honestly for a Lego fan this is a great set. Personally my favourite piece is the dog ?. Its amazing what they've thought of to put in this lego set and way different to when I was young. Would loved to build this if I were a kid.If you have the money then yes would def recommend .... I mean what's not to like.

My son was very happy with this lego set. Great to do with the whole family as it has lots of pieces and separate things each of us could make. Clear instructions and great quality. Have added this to our collection of legos and it looks great. Great toy for the little ones and even though its a little pricey i would definately recommend this.

There is so much in this set. It’s absolutely fantastic. I know it’s expensive, but I really do think it’s worth every penny. The building and rebuilding possibilities are almost endless. My son loved it....as did his Dad, who I’m sure had just as much fun as my little boy! This is Lego at its best. Good old fashioned building and rebuilding.
