My nine year old son is Autistic & uses Lego as to enact scenes from movies etc. He'd been hanging his nose over this one for a while - even though he doesn't speak, he still manages to communicate what he wants for Xmas.This set was bought for him for Xmas '11/'12, along with the Toy Story Train Set. Both of them had to be built immediately, so I went for the train set first as Toy Story was his favourite at the time. That kept him amused whilst I worked on this one - however, once he saw that I was working on it, Toy Story was abandoned & he sat down to help me - excellent!!!!The instructions were split into two books & were as clear & concise as Lego instructions are.The pieces were separated into numbered bags to enable you to work your way through the build (this seems to be something that Lego have dropped in the last few models I've completed). The build is good fun but I would say that a six year old will probably need some adult assistance - some of the parts are quite fiddly, the sliding doors being a particular cursing point.It has lots of interesting little features which Zak loves:- the crow-bar hidden under the beds, the dog & his bowl, the jewel on the detectives table. In fact, Zak loved it so much that I ended up mounting it on a piece of plywood & fitting handles either side so he can carry it around. I've marked it down on the "durability" ratings as it only needs the slightest knock & I'm spending an hour doing a rebuild. I've modified parts of it to make it slightly more substantial, but fitting one small section back together seems to involve an almost full rebuild. But in fairness, Zak gives it a lot of hammer.This is probably his favourite set - he had three other Lego houses at Xmas this year & he's not shown them more than a passing glance - whereas this is played with on an almost daily basis - good value.

I bought this for my 11yr old daughter, wasn't sure if she was too old for it but it was on her xmas list so I took the risk after reading the reviews on here, thinking that there are a couple of younger nephews it can go to if it became a 2 week-wonder. However, I had as much fun building it with her as she is now having playing with the completed item (in fact it's even overtaken the much longed-for smartphone she got from her Dad!) The box it comes in suggests it's bigger than the finished item but the detail is amazing and the step-by-step instructions are very easy to follow. I was slightly dismayed at first to see lots of items custom made (staircase, prison bars, etc.)- when we were kids half the fun of lego was improvising and a bit of imagination to make windows & staircases out of standard bricks! but once I got over this (and remembered also the frustration of having a staircase 10x bigger than the house it was meant for... ;-) I was fascinated by the attention to detail - as a police employee I'm quite familiar with the inside of a police station & this is as realistic as it could be. I have to admit I'm glad I didn't pay the full price, I'm not sure it's worth it... I found it about £20 cheaper from a major supermarket and used their loyalty vouchers leaving £20 final payment - well worth it at that price! My daughter is now looking for more police items to add (such as the helicopter, which isn't included despite the helipad on the roof) and possibly the hospital as our next project. I think we're going to have a couple more years fun with this before she (or I...) will allow it to be handed down!

We bought this for our 4 year old son for Christmas. Even though he is still a bit too young to build it (he helps with the mini-figures and the vehicles), he has had a lot of fun playing with the set.It took me about 5 hours to build the whole set - not in ideal conditions, as my son wanted to play with the section that I was building whilst I was still in the middle of the build process!!He loves all of the details; the garage doors that open; the moving jail doors; the escape hatch by the toilets and the hidden cavity in the beds to name but a few ...I love the fact that this set is built on a sturdy base and whilst some of the antennae on top of the building have been knocked off,we haven't had to do any major rebuilding even after our over-excited 4 year old has been playing with it (still standing almost 2 weeks after it was built).The one thing that I would point out is that even though there is a helipad on top of the Police station, you don't get a helicopter in this set which seems a little odd. We were able to just use a helicopter from other sets that we've got but I can imagine some children being disappointed by this.A lovely Lego product and highly recommended.

I bought this for my five year old son and I can honestly say it is worth every penny. Not only did he enjoy taking part in the building process (obviously he had help), but he has played with it non-stop since.You can build the Police Station in four key stages. The patrol car, the prisoner transport, the jail block, the police offices. Instructions are clear and precise, easy for children and adults alike to follow. All the pieces are provided in numbered bags so they are easy to find and you can build them at your own pace without worrying you will lose pieces if you want a break before you start the next stage.The whole building has several ingenious moving parts; slide-opening cell doors,escape hatches in the jail cells and roll-down shutters on the vehicle stations. The office block also has lots of brilliant little details, such as a mug-shot area, computer desk, stolen money and jewel, TV monitoring station and reception desk etc. There's also a kennel area for the police dogs (we have two, the one that came with the station and the one that came with the dog untit vehicle

My 5 year old son wasn't interested in any of his other presents once he'd opened this. He quickly disappeared to the dining room and started work. It took him from 10am to 17:15 to fully complete it only breaking for a 10 minutes for lunch. Never heard a peep out of him all day.It's been a long time since I played with large Lego sets so it was nice to see how they've improved it. The set is split into several instruction books for different parts and the parts are split into numbered bags so you don't have the huge pile of bricks sitting in front of you like in my day. The instructions have always been clear and straightforward and my son never had a problem through any of it.The set has a lot of detail,even the Police dog has a dish with bones in it! It's so good even I was itching to play with it, despite hiding sweets around the house to try and tempt him away, it didn't work :)It's impressive and nice to see the quality hasn't diminished. I've learnt my lesson buying non-Lego brands!

This was a birthday present for an 8 yr old. This kept him and a number of his friends quiet and occupied at the end of his birthday. No arguing or fighting. Anything that can do that is good in my opinion. Subsequently it has been used and played with lots of imaginary scenarios played out. It has now been dismantled and is currently being used to build other things. There are lots of different bits to this that would seem just ripe for the hoover. i.e the cuffs the dog bed etc.. but all of these little things seem to be what my children find the most amusing. Even when not playing with lego they will use these things in their various make believe games.This product is definitely a must for children who like lego and with a lively imagination.

As a huge fan of Lego I bought this for my son for christmas and have to say it's better than it looks.As always with Lego toys it's instructions are straight foward and easy to follow but the attention to detail in this one was amazing.He loved the little toilets and also the little police dog section complete with his bowl.We also got him the Lego airport but would have to say if you're trying to decide between the two then I'd buy the police station.The building is far superior to the airport and also the vehicles are much better.It's quite a large set but is quite sturdy on it's base so can be moved without much worry of bits dropping off.

I bought this as a christmas present for my son. The box it was packaged in was not damaged or tampered with in any way, yet the actual Lego box was damaged and it seemed like the box had been crushed and opened before sending it to us. I checked all the lego was in the box which it was and therefore I did not bother returning the item. I just feel it is poor to send an item in that state to a customer without notifying the customer or offering a discount.The actual toy has yet to be played with as it is waiting for christmas, but I know the set and it is a brilliant toy offering hours of play for my son. Lego is Lego and is brilliant.

Bought this for my sons 5th birthday, had lots of fun putting it together and he plays with it daily. He also received alot of the supporting lego city police items such as the boat, mobile police unit etc and he has lots of imaginative play with it. It also engages my 7 year old daughter who helped put it together. You can't go wrong with lego! Would recommend this most definitly especially if you can get it in the sale because it can be quite expensive. The only downside it is quite abit smaller than it looks on the box - although he didn't seem to mind.

My 6 year old absolutely loves this lego set and it keeps him entertained for hours! His review is as follows: This set is great I like the sliding jail doors, the secret crowbars, the police cars and especially the police dog. It's even better when you get the other sets to go with it so you can put more baddies in jail and land the helicopter on the helipad. The satellite is a bit fally-offy and the cup doesn't stay on the water tank but that's still ok! It took us 3 hours to build so is easier than hogwarts castle and helms deep!

This police station is brilliant good fun good education and good duration ok now it is fun because well it is jusst fun I cant really explain it, it is educational because is tells you what sort of things they would have in a real police station, it is good duration because well reasons reasons and well over all I call this a brilliant toy 5 STAR 10/10 BRILLIANT.(and well I am a very good lego builder and I buils this in 3 hours oh and just to warn you the box is gigantic so be careful that you have enough room for it)

This has been purchased for Christmas for my 9 year old Daughter who loves Lego. I bought this set from Amazon they were selling it for the best price around. I have not opened it, but from the pictures on the box, there is loads to do and I'm sure it will provide hours of entertainment and fun. The item was dispatched very quickly and arrived safely, no damage to the box at all. I can't wait until Christmas Day to see her face and hopefully get a go myself! Thanks Amazon, it's always a pleasure buying from you.

We bought this product at Christmas for my 4.5 yr old daughter and she has played with it for hours every single day since with her 6 year old sister. The attention to detail from the lego team is brilliant, and our kids and any visitors have had so much fun with it that I couldn't rate it highly enough. The sliding jail doors, escape routes for the prisoners, rolling car garage doors and lots of Lego figures all add to the enjoyment of this product. Well worth every penny.

We bought this for my daughter's 6th birthday as she loves Lego. Thinking I would get to help proved to be wrong. The clear instructions and well laid out diagrams, as usual from Lego, meant that my daughter has been occupied for hours and still isn't finished. She is addicted to this latest addition to her Lego City collection. Another great piece and well worth the asking price, although we did find the discounted price on Amazon more attractive.

We bought this for our 5 year old for christmas last year. The clear and easy to follow instructions meant that this was easy and quick to assemble.Our son loves this product and this is the reason he now loves the lego city collection.Comes with a good range of accessories and the little extra sets you can buy means he hasn't had to spend long saving his weekly pocket money to buy more figures/cars/bikes etc to develop his games.
