This is a big set, there's well over 800 pieces and full construction took me around 2 hours to complete and I've putting LEGO sets together for almost 30 years. I can't imagine a 7 year old having the patience to put this set together in one sitting at least. You basically have a launch layout with multi-stage rocket with boosters, control centre and delivery rail system for the astronaut ( a woman astronaut at that, good choice! ). The rocket alone will take about 30 mins to build if you plow into it and move fast, the rest of the system is about another hour. It's really good system but as others have said you need to use a little imagination to comprehend the differences in scale, most kids of around 10 years old won't care too much about accurate scale so I personally don't think it's a serious problem. The rocket has a satellite for delivery and a spare payload bay. The control centre as a manual countdown and you get several figures as part of the ground crew. The only minor niggle I had was the caps on the top of the booster rockets weren't very solidly attached, catch them with your figures while "flying" the rocket and they slip off. It's a very good set with almost a 1,000 pieces and once you've built the main model and other parts you'll have a ton of LEGO parts to build plenty of other models and toys. It's a pricey set but with so many parts in one box it's worth every penny as the classic LEGO system applies in that you can tear it apart and build whatever you like afterwards. If I'd recieved a huge kit like this as a young boy I'd have been over the moon.Like all LEGO sets, it has the built-in potential to offer hours of fun from the main model out of the box to whatever you can come up with later on.

The latest LEGO City is a fine space rocket and launch control model built with 837 pieces. As usual they have thought of everything, right down to a keyboard in the launch control, printed in dark grey on a thin, light grey, two stud wide brick or a security code keypad one stud wide brick that goes on the outside of an opening door. A monorail that curves round the launch site and two wagons, these were rather clever because although the track curves and goes downhill the wagons are designed not to come off on the curvesThe rocket is sixteen inches high, launch it and the two tower arms spring back just like a NASA launch. The control centre has a large removable window so you can see inside and operate a countdown 3-2-1-0.There are eight numbered bags and the 302 pages of instructions are split into seven books (instruction six and seven are in one book) with the corresponding numbered bags, this is a definite advantage unlike LEGO of years ago which had two or three bags with several hundred pieces and it made it difficult to find small items. The grandchildren took about three and half hours (over two days) to complete the model. No real problems thanks to the very high standard of the instructions though they ended up with twenty-one spare pieces and no missing pieces.A super model for tomorrow's astronauts.

This whilst this 837 piece set is a fun build, its looks strange when complete. Part of this is due to the obvious problems of scale. The main body of the rocket looks too simplistic and the choice of colour we do not find appealing. Although, it is true that the main fuel tanks of NASA rockets are now rust coloured, as they they are no longer painted to save weight. It is good the rocket fits together in stages, so you can simulate a whole flight sequence if you wish. The astronauts train ride is very speedy coming to a sudden stop. Having recovered from the impact your astronauts will realise that there is no elevator to reach their space capsule. The small launch center is frighteningly close the rocket. It features a short manual countdown timer, if you do not wish to download and use a more sophisticated app.The mini figures all look good. We like also like the ground vehicle .All parts are of Lego's usual high standard. This set is rated 7+. This set will appeal to 7-11 year olds, but older enthusiasts may be put off by the problems of realism. Bigger is often better, but in this case I would rather spend the same money on the new Lego Space Station and one of the other new Lego space sets.

This is a huge build and took us a day on and off to build as a family. We are massive lego fans (old and young) and this is a really special set. If we had built continuously, I would think it would have taken about 2 hours - but we like to take our time and during a very wet and windy summer holiday, this is a perfect rainy day activity. There was much delight when we opened the box to find that there were 12 large bags of bricks, and no less than 11 instruction booklets! The rocket is the centrepiece and it's in sections - so you can mimic the real-life stages of space flight as sections are released one by one. There is a really fun monorail to take the astronauts (two included)to the rocket ready for launch and there are another 4 mini-figures included as well as a robot! There is a launch tower for the countdown to take place and in addition to the monorail and the rocket, there is also a space rover with a grappling arm and there are geodes for the astronauts or the robot to discover and investigate with the circular saw. This is an amazing set, which has real satisfaction in the build, with a fantastic end result and great playability afterwards.

This set was a joy to build and it's a joy now it's complete. My son (7) had great fun building it and even more fun playing it. He could mostly build it himself. Intervention was needed a few times to help him on the right track and it was such a big build it had to be done over a number of days with the occasional bit of "You finish this off, Daddy." (oh the hardship). The level of design that as gone into this is incredible. The rocket and launchpad go together so well and make a surprisingly robust unit when together. I feared the rocked would keep collapsing but it doesn't. The control center is awesome too. The pinnacle of LEGO design. The only raggedy bit is the track - which is largely superfluous, though quite good fun. It is also the only obviously flimsy bit (though it's still fairly robust) but because if it's sprawling nature it's asking to be trodden on or knocked and broken. I think the track will be long gone whilst the rocket and command centre should remain together for a long time. This is an excellent kit and I highly recommend it for fans of LEGO and Space, young and old.

My sons and I have really enjoyed this LEGO rocket and launch control. It isn't particularly realistic but it is fun. I mean on the surface it looks great, so who cares if it isn't perfectly accurate. There's only so much that can be put in. That's what using the imagination is about, and besides, the cool rocket tower which falls away in launch is impressive. I also like that feature as it is so robust. The launch control area is fantastically detailed. The front window comes away flawlessly to access the operatives inside. The astronauts transport train / tram will entertain younger kids like mine but frustrate others as it serves little purpose. It comes to an abrupt whiplash inducing stop and when they get to their destination there is no way of entering into the flight deck. This comes with so many cool accessories, there is loads to do and my boys have fun making up scenarios. They're all very detailed.AS usual with LEGO the quality is exceptional. Every piece accounted for.

A couple of my pictures have a 50p coin in shot so you will see this kit has a lot of very small parts. The kit has numbered instruction manuals with plastic bags with the parts for that manual (pack 3 plus has some larger parts in two unnumbered bags). The instructions are pretty clear and will be good practice for later life for self assembly furniture assembly. The finished units are got fun to play with and the wheels rotate and the launch display countdown can be operated (by a knob on the back). All manual operation and this no batteries required.I am not sure if one is supposed to take it apart and rebuild which looks like it would be difficult.Defiantly good exercise for the brain cellsand it seems Lego also do an app for further guidance.

This is a really great set particularly relevant with the anniversary of the first moon landings. It’s a little bit more complex than most of the sets that we’ve put together and I think your youngsters will need help with this one as it’s a bit more tricky. But once construct it is probably one of the most exciting for kids. This was given to a seven-year-old who did find it some parts ( just a few bits) a little bit tricky but had lots of help from adults. He did say that it was one of his favourites and it kept him occupied for four hours!!!As with most Lego sets this is an excellent educational toy that does keep your children engaged. I do find this though a little bit expensive.

As someone who recently returned to LEGO (quarantining gets boring), I started by purchasing the larger, more advanced modular sets. After exhausting those sets, I looked for other ways to expand my new city. I found the LEGO City Space line of products and started with this set. It did not disappoint. Although the build is relatively easy, it is fun and rewarding. The designers of this set did an outstanding job thinking through the details that LEGO fans appreciate. The launch control center in particular, made me smile when I saw the clever use of transparent stickers. I usually loathe stickers in LEGO sets, but their unique use here was clever and functional. Highly recommended!!

This is a BIG kit. It comes in a huge box, and inside there are 12 large bags of bricks, and 11 instruction booklets! It’s a fantastic challenge, and, as you’d expect from Lego, the attention to detail is amazing. I was hoping to build some myself, but my son and husband grabbed it, and left me to put on the stickers! My son is 14, so obviously had no problems with building it, but I’m sure younger children would be fine, as the instructions are so clear. The box says 7+, but I think they might need a little adult supervision if a child that young was tackle this kit.Once made, it makes fantastic play items for children, or display items for the not so young Lego fan!

Myself and 4 year old son love this set. I built it whilst he watched and helped out when he could. The space center is very clever and it looks fantastic when it interacts with your phone.I also love the carts that take the astronauts to the shuttle, and my son loves pushing the carts down it.The shuttle itself is a fun build, and it looks cool when it breaks away from the platform. An additional feature is it got my son talking about space and the moon, and we subsequently watched various children's space videos, and he was asking about the suits and the helmets and space rocks. we both really enjoy it

This is a great Lego set that comprises a shuttle and command centre, as well as a number of smaller vehicles and extras. It was very easy to build and a lot of fun too, with a number of fully grown adults excitedly going "wow!" every few minutes when discovering a new feature. The shuttle has detachable rockets and even stores a removable satellite inside. The command centre can open up and features a working countdown mechanic behind the screen. Unfortunately we were not able to test the associated app as it is not out yet!Overall this is a great lego set with lots of cool ideas, pieces and mechanics.

I really liked this set. I have been a LEGO and NASA fan all my life I thought this set brought so much to the table. I love the launch control center play features. My five year old and I counted down the launch over and over again. The only complaint I had was that the rocket is hard to separate apart, but I understand that with the pieces that make it hard to come apart the rocket would be too flimsy. The track to the launch pad is awesome, and I can't get enough of the arms retracting automatically off the rocket during lift off. So Cool. Awesome set.

26.8.2020

Pretty straight forward build with terrific instructions. It however does not meet my expectations, and truly is a bit of a letdown as far as the structural integrity of the build. I am let down by the fact that when one lifts the rocket off the pad, the arms that fall to the side tend to fall off completely.Perhaps the holding power of the bricks is too small for the length of the arm. Levers, it's a heck of a moment being generated at the bottom of those arms.Anyway, lots of enjoyment, just not to the level I've come to expect from Lego.

29.7.2020

Nice set of Lego that my son has enjoyed making. It comes with full instructions and separately numbered bags depending on which page he was on. The thing I don't like about these Lego kits is that each piece is moulded now to the exact shape, there's not much imagination to these sets anymore. It is very detailed though with a moving track and space control window that opens. There's quite a few mini figures that come with the set too. My son has loved making it though and it's taken pride of place in his bedroom now along side his other sets.
