The LEGO City 60166 Heavy-Duty Rescue Helicopter set; consists of the abovementioned chopper, a small remote lighthouse, a jet ski/scooter, a shark and a kayaker. The theme is based on a kayaker, who may well have simply wandered too far out into rough, shark-infested, waters. Therefore, the narrative here is a maritime rescue opportunity by Helicopter. The small, unmanned, lighthouse is a slightly strange item, to be included, and to be honest could probably have been left out, with more “brickwork” going to either the Jet Ski or the chopper. Just to mention the Jet Ski, is simple in design, and fairly easy build nonetheless carries enough detail for a City set,the added benefit here is the fact it can slide into the back of the chopper. At last, we get to the “gem” in this build; and I am pleased to say this is a good build, with some interesting and new techniques of assembly. The Helicopter has spinning rotors, sliding doors on both sides. There is an opening ramp at the back, with enough space to house the rescuing Jet Ski /scooter. The cockpit can hold 2-minifigures, while the ingeniously designed rotating crane arm, with winch, can be worked by a handle on the side the sliding door mechanism. This solution is simple yet most effective, although it is predisposed to sliding open a little too easily. The cockpit has a couple of agreeably printed gradients and the main rotors are a nice, poised, free spinning design.Overall my nephew and I are happy to rate this set quite high. This is on the principle it provided the level of build and quantity of brick for a set of this type. It provides a myriad of play options, including using it in the bath. This is another good set from the Lego City collection.

This Heavy-duty Rescue Helicopter set is from Lego City's new Coast Guard range and there seems to be five new sets which are all Coast Guard themed. My Son has absolutely loved playing with this since we finished building it together and in particular the winch, sliding helicopter doors and of course the shark have been a few of his favourite parts of the set.Age Suitability:-The set is aimed at children between 6 and 12 years old and I would say that this is correct as my Son who is younger than the recommended lower age did need help from me to build it (he loves Lego and so does my Daughter and so they always try to build the older sets by themselves if possible).Build Bags etc:-The set has three instruction booklets with easy to follow step by step instructions and five build bags. The set also comes with the kayak, a base piece and a sticker sheet outside of the five build bags. The set has 415 pieces along with some small spare parts.Figures:-The set comes with four mini figures; a male Coast Guard/Helicopter Pilot, a female Coast Guard Diver, a female Coast Guard Jet Ski Driver and a male Kayaker. The set also comes with a Lego Shark.Parts:-The set allows your child to build the Rescue Helicopter, Jet Ski and a Lighthouse area.Features:-The Rescue Helicopter has rotating blades, sliding opening side doors, a cockpit area, a working winch and an opening ramp at the back which fits the jet ski. The jet ski and lighthouse don't have moving parts but the sharks mouth does open. This is a brilliant Coast Guard set and the Rescue Helicopter is brilliantly designed. Tons of play value and this can be played with by itself or alongside some of the other Coast Guard sets.

This set has 415 pieces across 5 bags, plus the kayak & a base plate loose in the box, it also comes with 3 manuals, a sticker sheet and a brick separator. The build was fun and I encountered no problems along the way. While the helicopter is a big hefty thing that looks really cool it had no seats for the pilot and no flight stick for him/her either! LEGO seem to be getting very lax on leaving out seats and control levers these days and it is a shame to spoil a great set for a few pence worth of parts. They also used an odd choice of brick for the pilot to sit on. The chopper also has sliding doors and a working winch which add to the fun, however the winch pulley easily comes unclipped. The rocks with the beacon have a little ship wreck on them which was a nice touch. If you are into recreating the story on the back of the box then be aware that the jet-ski doesn't fit in the back of the helicopter is the mini-figure is fitted in it. Don't let the small problems put you of though, this is a great set! Well worth anything up to and including the RRP...

Over 400 individual pieces go into making up this brilliant set (60166) , all coming together using the simple to read & easy to follow booklet style instructions.Making a fantastic 6x bladed Heavy Rescue Coast Guard Helicopter with working winch, sliding doors, opening cargo ramp for the included Jet Ski & some great detailing - especially around the engines & cockpit area. Space for an additional minifigure inside also gives you an idea of the sizing. Add in 3x other figures, a Shark with articulated jaws, a Kayak & a great little lighthouse ( no working light )Lots of elements to play with and use together or with other Citys sets such as 60165 or 60163 will give hours of fun and entertainment for children & adults (AFOL)alike. Just under £40 for a really good Lego set like this makes it a great value present or gift that will last, and last !

We have been impressed by this set, the star of which is unsurprisingly the rescue helicopter. It's technical and took some time to build, with moving rotor blades, doors, winch and a ramp. It has places for two figures and the jetski in the back.A focus for the rescue is also included: an endangered kayaker and a Lego shark! The lighthouse adds a bit of background flavour, though it's obviously not to the same scale as the other items. The helicopter alone makes this a good value set and it's one of the best Lego vehicles I've seen, but sadly gone are the days when a multitude of different items could be built from one set. Still 5 stars though as it's fun to build, looks great as a model and has lots of replay value with imagination.

The Heavy Duty Rescue Copter is lovely, it is extremely well detailed and looks awesome when built. They made this to look as close to a real Rescue helicopter as possible. You get a speedboat and a Kayak, which allows you to re-enact rescue scenes which is brilliant. You get four mini-figures and a Shark, yes a shark which by the way looks great. You have to really love the thought they put into these sets. It is a Lego City set, so you can mix and match characters on a whim. Good set for youngsters and excellent replay value. I believe the Lego City sets are the best value as the characters are great and the sets are not very expensive when compared to other sets.Great set and really allowschildren to learn and play.

It's the age old story: kayaker strays too far from the beach, opportunistic shark spots an easy meal and heads off to investigate. But wait! Some do-gooder in a nearby lighthouse has spotted the danger and called the coastguard, who only turn up in their swanky Lego helicopter! This set is what Lego is all about - there's a big central piece that offers moving parts, plus a few smaller items to add to the fun. The price isn't actually that bad, considering it's Lego - and is simply a must buy for any Lego enthusiast (or their parent).

The product was well packaged. The three building instruction booklets were well laid out and easy to follow. If you follow the instructions exactly it was easy to build. It took a sixteen-year-old boy (above the recommended age bracket of twelve) about ninety minutes to put it together. The hardest part was fastening the thread to the hoist. The tool supplied to take the blocks apart came in handy a couple of times. It’s too delicate to play with so it’s a model to put on a shelf, not a toy to play with.

For less than £30 this set is excellent value for money. Right out of the box you know that you are getting plenty for your money, with build time pushing 30 minutes. The test of any good Lego set is whether or not they engage children beyond building time, and the magic of this set is that it tells a story. With the boats and rescue helicopter, which means that it is very easy for kids to engage in imaginative playtime. This set links in well with other Lego City sets.

This helicopter took several hours to build and my son enjoyed it very much. He especially liked the spinning rotor blades and the winch, and most of all the biting shark! You also get four mini figures, a canoe with paddle and a jetski, so quite a lot is included in the set and you can create different scenarios.

I got this for my 9 year old son, and he enjoyed it a lot. While he was able to build it quickly and re-assembled to make variations of it. I didn't see him struggling to get this done. It's quite big and sturdy to play with, but if you are looking for challenging puzzle to build, this may not be the right one.

Coming into this purchase, I was a bit pensive about the price, but after a satisfying build I was very surprised to see how big it turned out to be. The model it’s self is very life like has a nice play feature in the winch and some very nice, mini figs.

Bought for kids for Christmas and they love it! Will keep them busy for couple of says at least while I do the cleaning and taking tree down with all the decorations hahaha would recommend this item!

I think is a good set and a good build, it’s a much better chopper than the normal one but it’s overall size is a bit disproportionate, it’s way bigger than all the other coast guard sets

One of the cooler helicopters. Only problem I had was with the winch. The cogs didn't seem to work as smoothly as you would expect. But it could be my building skills.
